[Music] it's good afternoon and welcome to the ribbon cutting and performance of the new exhibit darcy lynn's got talent at the edmond historical society and museum i am amy stevens the museum director and we are so pleased to share this talented young performer today and darcy is here with me today hi guys i am so excited to be here look at this oh my gosh it's my own exhibit this is so cool during this zoom we will journey with darcy lynn as she sees her exhibit for the first time she'll also be performing for us and sharing some of her life stories as well as chatting with some celebrity friends and some fans but first let's take a look back at how darcy lynn became the star performer she is today it all started in a local talent competition called edmundsgot talent let's watch well are you gonna tell me weird cooking no katie we're not comedians oh dear are you telling our real challenges you got me well i guess all right [Music] so let's go back all the way back to the beginning of your stage career tell me your memories of admin scott talent oh my gosh okay so my grandpa called my mom he was like have you heard of this edmond's got talent like darcy needs to do it she can sing and um of course they thought you know i would just go out there and sing a song but i went my mom was like oh my gosh can i do the ventriloquism and she was like you don't have any you don't even have a routine of course persistent determined me um decided to come up with a routine and um i wouldn't audition and they were like oh we love you like you can be on the show and i ended up i didn't i ended up winning and it was just i was like in that moment i was like whoa like people actually enjoy this i really want to keep doing this so i kept on doing it and i eventually met gary and and went on from there so it was edmond's got talent started at all it was crazy so that's what started this all so now let's see a video clip of darcy seeing her exhibit for the first time and the ribbon cutting on behalf of the board and the museum we welcome you today to the ribbon cutting of the darcy lynn's got talent exhibit i am amy stevens i'm the museum director and when i came here to the museum i wanted to engage edmond's community through storytelling but not just stories about the past stories about now and darcy lynn is very now she brings her youthfulness to the museum and she brings her talent to the world and we're very proud to showcase that through artifacts and photographs in the exhibit about darcy which will run through january of 2021 so i'm very pleased to present to you darcy lynn hi so darcy just saw her exhibit so to tell everyone what you think oh my gosh it was insane i walked in and i was like wow it is so well put together and it brought back a lot of memories because i hadn't seen a lot of the things that are in here in a very long time and it was so cool it was just really amazing so thank you so much i thoroughly enjoyed it it was amazing you're welcome was here what did you say about the exhibit she's been telling people all week that it's her exhibit she's she it's all up here she but she would love it too she would be very impressed she would probably only pay attention to the things she's in though so i understand that you're going to be putting on a special show this weekend for the opening of your exhibit can you tell us a little bit about that so yes i'll be bringing um a couple of my friends petunia oscar and katie um katie's a yodeling cowgirl petunia you all know her she's a diva bunny she loves to sing opera all of it and then oscar the motown mouse he'll be he'll be wowing the ladies he'll be well in the ladies just just just wait it'll be really fun i'm excited and another part of this weekend is you're going to be talking to some special guests can you tell us about that i'll be talking to kristin chinowith and gary my ventriloquist coach and gala it's going to be so so fun i'm so excited kristen has i've looked up to her forever i've never spoken to gala so i'm so excited um and gary gary he's really he's he's he's something else so i'm really excited to talk to gary i love him all right it is time for our ribbon cuttings okay ready and wow that's so cool oh i'm so excited oh my gosh oh my gosh wow i didn't even know where to start there's like so much okay wow this is so cool oh my gosh okay i'll start over here okay oh my gosh the memories wow are these oh my gosh oh my gosh these are old what is that is that my signature was i practicing or something your mom went through your closet talent credentials we had to wear those everywhere it was like it was crazy and then people in the mall would see it and be like they would notice where i was and like we couldn't walk like five feet it was fun ah those are my brothers the fam oh my gosh this is so cool okay oh wow these are some dresses okay so this one this was my dress that i wore on the very first live show so quarterfinals so it's the very first time i was back on agt after i got the book the golden buzzer that's crazy it probably doesn't fit me [Laughter] and this dress right here um oh and the shoes this is what i wore when i went i went back to america america's got talent for the second time it's like a couple of years after winning like two and perform on the show again i love that dress it's really pretty and me petunia matched these photos are so large that's so cool oh my gosh i wow that's crazy so this is scarlet and oaky and i used them when i very first started like that's crazy i have not seen them they haven't seen the light of day in years like five years and that wait no you have to get a shot at this look at what my mom put me in look at this dress mom look at what you used to cute dress me cute you were you were 10 years old wow that's bad it was precious [Music] and then this this is katie so she was my very first puppet i had ever had in my whole entire ventriloquist career she was the one that my parents bought me for my 10th birthday from ebay and so i used her so this is me with her um an edmund's got talent and i used her and then when i started getting into it um i used money that i won from a talent competition to get a whole new katie that was actual ventriloquist puppet so i still have katie but this is the original katie so yeah we kind of are twins so oh wow look at all these photos oh my gosh okay so this this is a very pretty dress this is the one of the dresses i wore on my christmas special on nbc crazy i was i sang um mary did you know in this dress so that's a very memorable dress it's very pretty too oh my gosh oh my gosh okay so this dress i haven't seen this dress in forever um this was semi-finals of agt the very the second second live show and i did my performance with edna edna singh simon iconic that was the most embarrassing moment of his life yeah he was really embarrassed so i i embarrassed simon well that was one of my favorite dresses on egt it was so cute oh here we go this it doesn't look heavy but this is heavy okay it is it weighs you down because of all of the beads on it but doesn't it pop on stage i mean look at that yeah this i sang santa claus is coming to town in this in this dress no jumper with those shoes those shoes give me blisters but i wore them anyways because i thought they were so cute and i was just like i worked through the pain and this is me and kristen um this is when we sang together for my christmas special and these right here are actual shoes that kristen sent to me she said i'm gonna blow your mind and i'm sending you all my shoes so she sent me these ones first and they're so cute i've worn them a bunch but yeah we have the same shoe size and then that is oscar's outfit his little what are those called suspenders yeah he's pretty nerdy but that's what he wore on the christmas special um yeah oh and it's me and dalton look at us go we were trying to be red carpet models that night that night yeah see if you see look really closely i'm wearing her shoes so the mew-meow shoes oh my gosh okay let's head on over here oh oh wow okay i was wondering where those shoes went they disappeared out of my closet okay so this dress right here um the very first dress i came out in in my christmas special it's really comfy and it's super soft and i sang rocking around the christmas tree in it and they're the shoes these are probably like one of my favorite pair of shoes i've ever worn i just love them so much they make me feel like pretty woman looking down straight like that and then here's me petunia on the christmas special and then that's the dress that petunia wore on the christmas special yeah i haven't seen that dress in a while oh wow okay so these are the huge pictures me and edna oh it says edna is a naughty old lady who takes an interest in younger that's true that's true yes she's kind of crazy and then here we have oscar he has a thing for bow ties it's one of his favorite things to wear he wears suits all the time i mean if if he's i mean he's not really ever not wearing a suit so he loves the suits he's a nervous stuttering motown mouse who cannot talk to girls to save his life so and then this is the new katie so i've had her since i was like 11 i'm pretty sure um and yeah she has red hair now she is spunky very sassy and she does not like petunia at all um and she yodels so she's a cowgirl true blue oklahoman all the way and then of course there's petunia the one and only iconic petunia um she's a diva all the fame went to her head she's i mean she's singing all the time i mean yeah and she thinks everyone loves her more than me but i don't know i think i think they like me but yeah we love her we love um wow oh my t-shirts this is my very first t-shirt ever that we sold at my show in here at the criterion it was my very first show back after winning so that's pretty cool and here are some of my crowd photos we always take a photo at my tour and so there's some pretty iconic and then there's me winning my ugly cry it's a good thing you put up that picture because the other ones i'm just like but yeah that's pretty cool oh and here right here this is when i performed at the rockefeller christmas tree lighting that was really cool that was crazy it was freezing outside because the whole thing was outside so that's why i'm wearing a huge coat but that was an absolute blast i got to bring my best friend lily with me it was so fun oh we went to see we went to see mean girls on broadway that was fun and here's me and my band those are the guys um we're trying to come up with a band name for them um there we've thrown a lot of names in but they're pretty funny um and then here tiger b oh yeah oh my gosh yes tiger b magazine featured me as a viral moment in the 1900 um article so that's really cool i totally i just ran out of life yes okay yes girls like you i remember doing that one girls like you heard that one on the cover oh my gosh i keep like that's so crazy this is bringing back a lot of memories um yes american girl that was really fun and then variety magazine i was in with shawn mendes on that and i was like what was your honor that's crazy um uh variety variety's young power of hollywood impact report so i was amongst a lot of really cool people in there like it was crazy i met sean mendes um jacob lordy and like lily reinhardt i met she was in there featured as crazy it was really cool and then oh and then we made we made this postcard a while ago so i could sign autographs so that's all of the times i was on a gt so the first one is the first audition first live show semi-finals and then finals and then when i won that's so cool wow that look at that that's crazy where was this oh new jersey and then ohio that's so cool i've been to 46 states so i have four more left to check off which is nebraska alaska wyoming and iowa and i'm going to nebraska and iowa but i don't know about wyoming and alaska let's see we'll see but wow that was so cool that is so cool that's crazy it looks so good thank you so much i mean wow are you on a loss for words that's so cool so now you have an exhibit about your life and you're only 15. so what's that like people are gonna know so much about me like it's a little bit scary i it is really i mean it's hard to even believe like i just look around and i'm like wow like this is all about me i feel so special and honored honored to say the least like it's so cool it's so cool i feel so special so let's take you five ten years down the road and edmond historical society is doing another exhibit about you what's going to be different what's going to be added probably some new puppets maybe i hope so that'd be really cool um i hit album uh or a hit ep or a hit single something like i really want to progress in my music career maybe even have been in a movie that would be cool or um definitely want an award of some sort i think like a huge award would be cool so you can do it and maybe have like picked like a really good or an organization that i want to support so those are a couple goals you tour just throwing that out there [Laughter] yeah so very cool darcy lynn has prepared a special show today for the opening of her new exhibit at the edmond historical society and museum let's watch welcome to the edmond historical society and museum we are so pleased to be able to present to you darcy lynn in celebration of the opening of her brand new exhibit darcy lynn's got talent oklahoma's star performer which is on display at the museum from now until the end of january 2021 we hope everyone gets a chance to come and see it but right now we have the most special opportunity to see darcy lynn perform on the day her exhibit opens darcy come on up hi everyone oh my goodness wow this is crazy i want to thank you all for being here today i mean i'm this is just i feel so honored i feel so special today thank you amy and eric and all the staff for putting this together this is just incredible i've had the best time going through and reliving memories and that's just it's so cool it's like amy was saying it's it's funny to her that we're like oh my gosh i want to go back and read through this and even though we lived through it it's crazy because our lives just going going going i think we forget um how much i've done and how fun these past couple years have been and how many things i've accomplished so it's just cool to remember all of it so this is really fun well i have some special guests that i brought with me today i'm super excited this first guest you all know her i'm pretty sure you all love her she is the diva bunny and she loves to sing so ladies and gentlemen please give it up for petunia [Music] hi petunia it is so great to see you you're right darcy it is great to see me oh my goodness all these people on social media certainly yeah they're here to see you and watch you oh good i love attention i salute your good taste well petunia you have a lot of fans out there darcy i have a lot of fans everywhere well i can tell by all the social media on facebook my face isn't a book no we'll shin it at the end of the magazine cover okay come on come on and then there's other social media like instagram and there's twitter what did you just say twitter yeah what do you do on this so-called twitter well you tweet i dig your pardon i do not tweet wait a second do you tweet yes stop it that's crazy yeah and of course there's youtube stop the madness darcy i don't care about all that social media stuff really come on don't you know i'm one of those one named stars now one named star you know beyonce adele zendaya and now tweet that okay all right i got it i got it changing the subject petunia you look so pretty today thanks i just went to the salon i mean your ears look great how do you get them to stay up hair straight [Laughter] get it because hair joke because i'm a bunny i forget she's a teenager so dense what's wrong you know darcy it's exhausting being this fabulous oh come on i think it's cool that you're so famous now well don't get me wrong i love being famous couldn't keep this beautiful face all to myself that would be selfish well i guess looks can be somewhat important in hollywood well yeah you know when we are out in l.a i was considering plastic surgery what yeah but plastic surgery why darcy pardon me is plastic i'm halfway there what are you thinking of having done an ear reduction oh my gosh well petunia i think these lovely fans of yours and also behind the screens i think they would love to hear you sing a song right ears and all really let's do it [Music] is easy [Music] [Music] having me this whole experience has been incredible just thank you thank you a million times um petunia but do you have anything you'd like to say we all know this is not existed okay give it up for petunia ladies and gentlemen thank you that was amazing thank you so much for performing at the museum today i know you've been on much bigger fancier sets before probably the first time you've performed in a historic armory that's 84 years old right let's talk about your performing so darcy lynn the first time i sat down with you you had just won the golden buzzer you were prepping your next act and i was writing a story about you we went to panera bread and we talked about that and you were really quiet your mom did most of the talking and i thought wow this is not the darcy lynn i see on stage but i understand that you were shy that's why you started puppets yeah well so yeah when i was younger painfully shy like it was getting to a point where like my parents were like what are we gonna do about this so you know when i was five put me in music school i went to this little music school which kind of helped me come out of my shell and then i got into pageants at the age of six and eventually i was nine and i met a girl who did ventriloquism and at this point you know patches kind of help me you know come out of my shell a little bit but the puppets really just brought a whole new person out of me which is so weird it kind of felt like i could speak through them and have a voice through them so that was really cool but yeah um agt i think kind of just changed me just being in this spotlight and just being out there having my name known as totally turned me into a different person i know i still you know a little bit reserved off of the stage but whenever i go on stage i don't know i'm a whole different person and it's turned into like a whole different person in a good way but it's kind of weird time to perform yeah right so i do remember in that interview at panera you said i hope america votes for me and of course we now know there were 52 million voters wow 350 million times so you know you know whenever i meet people they're like oh we voted for you and i think sometimes i don't realize how like valuable that is that statement is because i just i don't really think about it too often um that literally america voted for me to win that they saw potential in a dream and they made it happen so that's really crazy so how did you celebrate after you won oh so after i won like my whole entire family was there like it was crazy both sides and we all went to dinner i eat steak one of my favorite foods maybe even my favorite food i love steak and um well i mean we got to celebrate that night and then you know i went to bed and woke up the next morning and it was just my life was like because i went on ellen and i had like so many interviews so it was just all really surreal i don't think i really realized i had just won america's got talent until maybe even a couple months after like it was just like okay i won it's weird it's weird like even to this day like one time we were sitting around the dinner table we were watching i think the season after i won so it's been like a year maybe we were sitting and we were watching and my dad's like darcy you won that show and i was like did i it's weird i think it's weird to think about so besides america's got talent what are some other special performances um so i had my own christmas special on nbc which was insane i was so excited to do that but i was also really ner it was nerve-wracking for me it was like oh my gosh how am i gonna host this show all by myself like i even had guests on it and like kristen was on it toby keith and the pentatonix and um it was just it was so crazy it was just surreal because i like this is my show like i'm kind of like kind of controlling this like kind of the boss and i got to introduce people it was really fun and it was just it was super special because i got to film a lot of it in my hometown because it was called darcel in my hometown christmas so and then um other performances i've been i've been i did the rockefeller christmas tree lighting um i got to perform on nickelodeon on all that um the grand ole opry i got to perform on i'm now doing a show on nickelodeon called unfiltered and um it's just been crazy i've also been on food network a couple times it's just it's crazy so how has coronavirus affected your performing schedule well so we would have had shows but they've been postponed so the there are gonna be show dates in 2021 um we're hoping crossing our fingers but i've just been staying home i've been trying to be as productive as i can learning guitar trying to write some music um like i said i'm doing this game show called unfiltered with nickelodeon it's on every saturday i've been working on my youtube um new series up it's called the spin with darcy lynn it's really fun you should check it out um that's what i've been really been doing while i've been home but it's definitely been a little weird you know i'm not singing as much as i was so that's been weird on my voice um i'm not you know the puppets you know they're kind of sad because like they don't get to perform like petunia's just so mad she's like she's she really misses the stage she definitely she just misses the fame so she thinks this exhibit's about her she really does she's telling everyone that she's like it's about me we all know it's about me which i mean you my face is everywhere so i don't know when she's gonna realize that it's about me so i don't know we'll see might crush your spirits so this weekend the mayor of edmond made a very special announcement let's watch well we have another special presentation to make to you so i'm going to bring up mayor dan o'neill and he has something to share with you thank you for being here darcy we really appreciate you being here and being part of this special program it's certainly great to have you here and participating and working with the people here in our museum we have a special proclamation that we would like to read to you okay and i would like to present this at a socially appropriate distance trying to figure out how to do this best we are so disappointed that we can't fill up this room and have everybody here because i guarantee you you would bring them here and we would love to have them all here with you so we're going to celebrate that tomorrow okay all right there is no greater joy in life for those of us who are parents or grandparents to see young people succeed that take the world by storm to see youngsters open up do things that stop us in our tracks and let us marvel as a performance and see a new generation of youth take on their wings that's the special treat that we are celebrating here your accomplishments in our community and your performances on the international stage thank you darcy for making it happen leading the way for our generation and thank you for making it happen in our community in our metro and in our state okay here's the proclamation that we have for you okay these are all very official i want you to know that okay this is a proclamation by the city of edmond whereas darcy lynn farmer won edmonds got talent in nine in 2014 for her ventriloquist act just one after one month of practicing and you were awarded the edmond chamber of commerce citizen of the year in 2017. you were 13 right yes and whereas darcy lynn farmer received nationwide fame in 2017 for the amazing audience with the nbc america's got talent show which resulted in a golden buzzer recognition and your eventual win your performance became the most show's most viewed video in history and made the top 10 list of trending videos on youtube and earned you a sold-out performance at the las vegas show and whereas your show tours around the country and regularly appears on various television shows including a regular spot on nickelodeon and whereas you work to overcome your shyness and you have become a role member role model for the young citizens you are credited with representing a vast array of musical styles and bringing forth a craft of ventriloquism back to the public's attention darcy and you and your family remain living here in edmond we're very very grateful for that and you're a vibrant asset to our community you have also maintained a wholesome reputation as a performer and has represented our city in a very positive manner therefore i dan o'neil the mayor of the city of edmond of oklahoma on behalf of our city council who's present today here declare that august 9th is darcy lynn farmer day in the city of edmond oklahoma congratulations oh my god [Applause] thank you so much wow wow what an honor we're really very proud of you and this is a really a special event and we want to thank the director amy stevenson for all of her hard work on this yes and all of the staff derrick and everybody here for pretty help putting this together i saw this a couple of months ago they've been really working hard on it and i'm looking forward to touring it just like you just got through oh hi that's amazing thank you very much darcy thank you let's give her a big hand wow thank you so today august 9th is darcy lynn farmer day and you are here with us celebrating and sharing your talent with the world let's talk for a moment about your singing you sing an incredible variety of music yodle folk music opera there's so much and a lot of it is older music so tell us about how you pick your music well i try you know whenever i'm picking music for myself to sing when it's just me i just go for really like the the type of music that i love to sing and i've always been a really big fan of old jazz and that's why i love to sing fly me to the moon frank sinatra and but uh poppy stuff too in my show i sing sucker by the jonas brothers i'm a huge fan of jonas brothers but i'm picking songs for puppets um i try to go along with um their personality what they'd want to sing what they you know feel they should sing and because like the whole show is you know all the puppets are telling a story and sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's like oh my gosh why would the puppets say that like they're crazy so i try to you know bring the songs into the story along with you know into the show so and also just you know matching their personality so so i understand that your musical talent might come from your mother tell me how she's inspired you my mom beautiful misty lynn so my mom kind of got me into singing when i was around six so i've been singing for nine years now i think i did the math right it's been a while um but you know my mom got me into singing around that age and of course she helped me in my pageants and we picked songs together and coached me up on my singing a little bit and we sung in church together a lot so we love to do that and she's sung in my shows a couple times she always cries every time because she's a sap um but yeah i've always looked up to my mom i just love her a lot couldn't do anything without her i would be a mess but yeah i mean just just my family in general and my dad dad clark dad has been like a huge rock for our family he has taken the step as like you know the manager of course and he's over he oversees a lot and i don't really think i appreciate enough what he does so thank you dad so i nee and my brothers they're just over the top supportive from what i know i know they always crack jokes about you know like oh my gosh our sister our sister's famous but um they're my whole family is really supportive which has been a such a blessing so yeah can we let your mom jump in here for a second come misty misty [Laughter] so what is it like to hear your daughter singing so beautifully on stage well because when she was very little i knew she could sing she had perfect pitch just around the house she would never do it in front of anybody else but she would sing all the time at home and i just thought she has a beautiful voice she has a gift god gave her the gift and i'm just so so proud she uses it and glorifies him in it doing that and so when her dad and i hear her sing we still get teary-eyed and just like she called me earlier i am a total sap i cry look at her look at her she's already crying but we are we're so super proud of her and and what i think makes her dad and i the most proud is is this hasn't changed darcy she's still the same sweet girl she always has been and always will be and we're so proud she stays humble and just herself stop so yes we are so proud of all of it from every every instance from singing to speaking to being a role model for for lots of people so yes we are so super proud so at christmas you sang with another oklahoma performer kristin chenoweth so tell us about that oh my gosh kristen i've looked up to her my whole entire life her career and just the way she presents herself is something that i really admire and i tried you know she's just someone i've always looked up to and i want to be you know somewhat like her i just love her so much so whenever we got to sing together it was just i was just so amazed i'm so in off everything she does so to get to sing with her that moment was just crazy and um for it to be on like my own christmas special and to have kristin on it was just so such a surreal moment and she's just the sweetest human i think i've ever met so i i just loved that and getting to do that with her and he sounded beautiful together thank you it really synced up last song together that would be cool it's now time for darcy lynn to talk with some of her celebrity friends and her fans we're going to bring on a variety of people today and i'm so excited yes and we want to start with gary owens gary owens do you see one of her characters here i do the all the oscar mask he's rocking the darcy lin merch right now let me introduce you formally because not everyone would know your face uh gary owen is a veteran performer he does hypnosis he does ventriloquism he is known as the voice of oeta television as well as the character voices at whitewater bay and at frontier city so his voice is very famous do it do what the frontier city won welcome to frontier city isn't that crazy but the reason he's here today is because he's darcy lynn's coach in ventriloquism as well as uh her her road to her producer so tell us how you met darcy uh well let's try to get this in a quick nutshell as i can as amazingly as it is about uh three blocks up the street from this museum um i had some friends at church that came up to me after services they had seen darcy perform at edmonds got talent the night before and said oh gary gary you got it you've got it we've gotta tell you about this little girl she's 10 years old she won edmund's got talent last night she's self-taught and she yodels without moving her mouth because i am involved heavily in the international ventriloquist community i mentor and i lecture at the international ventriloquist and i see a lot of kids and so i'm like this is unbelievable so sure enough i went home and thought okay hopefully her mom has posted something on social media she did and i saw the show that my wife and my wife was like wow and so i said so i called the edmonds arts council the next monday and i said this is who i am this is what i do in the marketplace uh would you give my number to this child's parents because i want to mentor her and i want to say that normally i have parents come up to me all the time when they see me perform say hey my kid wants to learn ventriloquism would you do that i don't usually i usually pass that on because it didn't have a lot of time but when i saw darcy i always tell people that i saw when i saw her video i felt like she had for those who would recall those childhood actors shirley temple and ronnie howard i felt like she had that shirley temple ronnie howard magic about her it was just something different and so i felt like it was worth my time to invest in looking into helping darcy become a better ventriloquist never had the stars never saw anything where it is today never saw that on the platter so met with her parents a couple of weeks later and her her dad said well because i wanted to volunteer my time to help her uh and her dad said well why do you want to do this and i said well i'm at a part of my life where i want to give back and i said uh darcy is the chosen one i said this is a calling for me and so the rest is history and some of these puppets so the one she named scarlett and the one she named okie were donated to her to kind of help her get started because i wanted to have more professional puppets i wasn't i didn't use them very often and the fact they were just yeah these were heads so i just i said you know i want them to go to good use and they were in really good condition didn't use them very much and i thought this would be a great so here's the amazing thing about darcy she pick up character she immediately would have the voice she immediately have a name she knew exactly what she wanted to do with that personality and she still does that to take today so that's the that's what's really unique about her so darcy what's it like working with gary as your coach how do you practice being a ventriloquist terrible i was brutal wasn't i getting into america i'm kidding but no i mean it is just it's been such a ride you know the first time i remember the first time we had our very first coaching session and he brought puppets and i was just like so excited like oh my gosh puppets like real puppets and and i mean i have just learned so much from gary just i would not be where i am today without his coaching and his his guidance because of course when i when i very first started was like i wasn't terrible but i wasn't like oh my like amazing amazing and gary's work has made me amazing amazing so he's just one of the best people i've ever met teachers and he really helped me a lot so and i want us i want to answer for just a moment to say that i'm just the ventriloquist coach i want to say that her mother first of all has been a huge influence on her singing and of course she's had vocal coaches as well who have helped her come along to be more professional but her mother and i worked together in a combination ways creatively helping motivate her to try new things because she was still pretty shy and she was a little resistant about certain things but once she realized she started working live in front of audiences on a local basis she started getting the laughs and she started it just really started to open up that box and she started having really a lot of fun with it and this is really where she started shining so well congratulations to both of you it's obviously been an amazing partnership thank you for being here gary and now we want to invite a dear fan of darcy's into the museum you're going to meet mr harold cootieback oh i i love darcy from the first time i saw her on tv and simon loved her too simon says he won't forget her yeah he did say that he said well he said i won't forget you in a week a month and a year that's right and everybody was so proud of you thank you thank you so much and uh we uh well well when you started crying up there on the stage everybody in the neighborhoods cried i know i did [Laughter] i was crying a lot i was crying a lot but you recover you you handle it good i love that thank you where is edna doorknocker and she decided to stay home today if she if she knew you were going to be here she'd probably come well yeah i was going to try and see if i could get a date [Laughter] oh i have to ask her for you okay i'll ask her for you that would be so fun well i have a big poster of you that you signed or had your guitar player signed by him decided for you or him to get it for you that's awesome i do i do remember signing it he was like he was like my friend harold is a big fan he would love a poster darcy has fans from all it's amazing it's so fun we are going to next meet a guest that you've mentioned you're really excited to meet and that is miss gayla p oh my gosh yes i'm so excited i've never met gayla so this will be so fun gala i know and she was the first oklahoma star to make national television she was on the ed sullivan show which back then was a big deal and that was in 1953 and she's saying i want a hypocrite yes so many times one of my favorite christmas songs um and even i think katie sang that one time in a christmas show i did katie the cowgirl she's singing that song it was really fun wow i didn't know that well while we're waiting on gala to join us um i've heard gayla say many times that if you're going to have a hit song make it a christmas song because it comes back every year oh my gosh there's a little tip for you very wise words all right gayla are you with us can you hear can you tell us a little bit about what it was like to be on national television in 1953 well it was a lot different than it is now i can say that for sure everything was diff they didn't have video or anything so uh i don't have pictures and all this you know uh footage to uh remember everything so be very thankful for amy and that you're documenting all of these things that you're doing uh because that's really um very special and something that didn't happen in my day so gayla darcy lynn's a big fan of jazz she loves girls sings frank sinatra yes oh my goodness i've been i even have a whole playlist of like my favorite old jazz songs um um there's just so many frank sinatra billie holiday and um if it's yeah ella fitzgerald my gosh i almost said eva cassie but ella fitzgerald and dean martin and everyone so oh you mentioned dean martin so i have to run with that okay i know that gala at one time performed with dean martin gayla can you tell us about that oh yeah i was under contract to nbc at the time and uh got to sing with quite a few stars that darcy you would not even know who they are i'm sure but um dean martin jimmy durante jim um well of course hoagie carmichael because he was the host of the hoagie carmichael show that i was a regular on and so i got to sing with uh even made a record with joe stafford you probably have no idea who that is but so i heard you sing earlier and talking about loving frank sinatra and big bands oh you would have loved singing with some of the big bands that i got to sing with it was so fun that is so amazing yeah i got to sing with count basie david rose um paul west and jerry fielding some of the big big bands that uh were just amazing that is so cool i'm very jealous well you could you could do that i'm putting in this number again if gala while you're doing that um i'm not sure if darcelynn knows that you were also a teenage singer and had a hit song when you were a teenager so one of the questions i wanted her to to hear from you is what advice would you give to a young performer like darcy lynn oh well i don't think that's gonna sorry my advice having been a child performer would well there's a lot of things but i would say the main thing to get the phone to work the main thing darcy lynn is to uh remember that you have a special place and a special opportunity to be a role model for young people there's such a need for that um really a big need thank you gayla for being here i'm sorry we couldn't see your face thank you so much for the advice i'll take it to heart thank you it's so nice to talk to you well i'm sorry i had my hair all fixed and makeup on and i would look really cute well someday wow um i don't know if this counts as like a particular food but a burrito bowl from chipotle i can't live without chipotle if chipotle was non-existent i don't know how i'd survive i it would just be bad it would just be like the apocalypse for me if chipotle was gone um yeah definitely a bird able from chipotle i would if i was drinking on an island that's the one thing i'd take with me so so um did you like design your own puppets or like did you get them from a certain place well um my puppets several of them were already made and um i picked out and then a couple of them i did design i didn't physically make them but i did design and say what i really wanted and my idea and um really talented um puppet makers and artists put them together and made them for me so i've actually i've are you i'm good so my question is have you ever gone out of the united states before oh my goodness i have i've been out of the united states a couple times i've been to london um i've been to paris canada and the bahamas so those are the only places i've been out of the country there's a couple so yes and do you like going to the beach oh i love the beach if i i think honestly when i get really old i'm going to retire on the beach it is one of my favorite places to go and i just i think they're super fun so definitely i i love love the beach thank you so much for joining us he comes to a lot of the classes at our museum so we're so glad that she's probably gonna be the first in the door to see this exhibit oh yay next on our list is alison zorns she lives here in edmond and i have to say her grandpa is a big fan of the museum so um we call him our number one fan because he posts everything and shares everything we do oh that's so sweet is allison with us hi hi allison so so my first question is um how do you find a clothes for your puppets oh that's a very good question okay so um i don't think personally i've gone out shopping for my puppets but my beautiful mom knows exactly the places to look she honestly we don't go anywhere fancy we don't really order anything off of amazon my mom goes to consignment sales and like like goodwill and and places like that and she goes into the baby sections and she really just looks for dresses and little tiny suits oscar suits were made for him so but petunia really we really shop in the little baby areas so like it's perfect for her so but that's a really really good question also um do you have any pets oh yes um i have three dogs um so my our oldest dog he's a grandpa he is very very old um but we've had him since he's my age so we've had him since i was a baby he's a dachshund long-haired dachshund his name's chewbacca chewie and then we have a maltipoo his name is binx we've had him for almost two years well two no we have had him for two years well in october we would have had him for two years and then we have a german shepherd named leia princess leia so they're all star wars chewbacca judge or binks and then princess leia that's awesome thank you alison good to see you bye allison bye we next have jack wing and he's a fan from colorado wow see if jack is with us hello hi jack hello hi very nice to meet you my first question is um if you uh had a first instrument what would your instrument be oh well i am learning to play guitar right now but if i could learn another honestly i'd really like to learn saxophone i think the saxophone is really cool it is one of my favorite instruments to hear um to like to hear being played and i think it's very nice sound so either that or like a violin i played a violin too oh that's so cool wow that's awesome i love violin um what would uh what's your uh plans after high school you would uh prefer a career or uh go to school ah well that's a very good question i don't know i'm kind of still figuring it out i honestly my plan probably is to ah that's such a good question i really i'm honestly so i don't even know yet but i mean i could i could go to college if i wanted to or i could you know move out to la and like pursue a lot of things that i really want to do i mean there's either one i could do either one i don't really know yet but we will see it's all up in the air thank you jack so glad you got to visit with us today thank you jack thank you earlier you got to have a special conversation with one of your favorite singers yes that was this shadow is so fun oh my gosh i love kristen with my whole heart i look up to her so much so talking to her it's been a while so talking to her was just so fun it was awesome so we have some video happening now are you getting to have a break i mean obviously you're not you're not on the road right now been i haven't really been doing anything um well i mean i haven't been touring but we're i'm on this new show on nickelodeon called unfiltered it's it's all filmed through zoom and it's all filmed remotely so we have all the equipment in our house right now it's crazy and then i'm working on my youtube right now so just doing things to stay that that you know that i can do at home and i'm wearing guitar so you know what now you're inspiring me because i said for so long i used to play a little bit and for so long i thought i'm going to get i'm going to get back to it and then when this all happened i don't know about you guys but i thought this will be over soon and it's still happening and asked me have i learned which have i my piano have like learned the guitar practice guitar no i've done none of it so anyway it is wonderful i'm happy to see you baby you look great i'm so happy that we get to talk this is gonna be so fun kristen i was hoping you could share some of your memories of singing in concert with darcy well i don't know how she feels about it but i was so um proud that another young artist is coming out of oklahoma and then i was also so proud to see her her work ethic so when i arrived i was like how's it gonna be is it gonna live up to what i thought and the good news is that she you darcy lynn live up to your reputation and as you know and as you're learning and as you continue to learn i'm sure our reputation precedes us so when i got to when she asked me she asked me remember to come and sing on her show her christmas show then and i was just like i was so honored that's the only that's the only word i can think of i was flipping out i mean i have looked up to you for my whole life and to get to see with you oh my gosh it was the funnest time of thing i've ever had well i wanted her to share her story of getting to meet you the first time yeah look so so when this was back when i was uh still on agt or afraid won right after i won and i think right after you won is when we met right yes and a really good stage manager that me and my family became good friends with her name is tammy and we just loved tammy and tammy was working on kristen with the show and they were on set together and tammy facetimed us and i had no idea that kristen was gonna be on the phone i never met her before but i just adored her and she got on the phone and i was like bawling my eyes out like ugly crying i was like oh my [Music] i'm pretty sure kristen even cried too it was so funny and it was the best time ever and then it finally met her in person but it wasn't it was like an accidental meeting it was at this party i don't remember up front the up first nbc upgrade and i just i was in a we went to this dinner party and it was all adults and i was just like oh this is i mean it was of course i was like very nice but i was just like oh this is so boring and then i hear kristin talking and i'm like i whip my head around like wow it's kristen and then we finally met in person and i still have a phone on my phone so i remember when we met in person two i remember calling you i was on set and tammy did say i said i would be so lucky to meet darcy what do you mean would you feel okay yes i want to meet her right now so we called you and this is what i remember you were in your house you were in your house with your mom in edmond and i think that i think that you were in your kitchen now this is how crazy so we weren't we were having the same we were having the same memory and then someone said darcy lynn and then we got to meet and it was it was um pretty magical she knows i love her yes and i'm gonna make a prediction too about darcy lynn and i told i told you this to your face and i don't know if you remember it's been a while back but i said that about your talent and your gift that it's just the beginning it feels like you know you definitely have to hit it you definitely hit it you know that but it's just the beginning there's so much more ahead for you that i don't even you might have some sort of idea but what makes me the happiest and i i don't mean to talk too much is that you have the family that you have because they are they are the ones that are keeping well i have a feeling that your heart is your heart and you're just who you are but they keep it real and you have some you have a lifetime to be in show business a lifetime and so many things are coming so i'm just glad that they're having a museum now and when i come home guess what i'm going to do the first thing i might be wearing a mask but i'm coming to that museum and i'm going to check it out i bet i can't i don't think my feet are grown my feet are tiny yeah but you know i think that it's good when you have when you're a woman you have a little fee is that your mama [Music] [Music] so your foot really has not grown nope it has not she's still as tight as she was and then the other one she gave me rhinestones on the heel yep this one probably still fits she wore those in her tour shows tell your mom and tell your mom i'll reach out when i come back to okie okay yes definitely yes i can't believe the shoes still fit i'm going to send you more oh my gosh i would absolutely die you know what they're it's a shame that i have a shoe thing i can't i'm never satisfied never like i buy a lot of like cute sneakers i have so many different ones but i also love heels whenever i get to wear them i like sneakers hey jordan will you go get my product my new product sneakers oh here they here they are yes okay these are prada don't touch me can you see oh my gosh oh my gosh i would die yeah it has like a little thumb and the star and then it has a heart and look at the i think you need these i'm just saying your mom is going to kill me i'm so proud of you girl like literally i listen to you talk and i just go i'm just proud of you that's that's it i'm proud of you you just you keep doing what you do thank you so much thank you kristen for your time yes oh my gosh am i just going to leave darcy home and she just wouldn't sing in front of anybody and that obviously came later and the puppets helped her do that and so we absolutely love hearing her sing it's beautiful it's heartfelt it always comes from her heart which is a good thing and and she's just stayed so humble through this whole journey and grounded in her faith and her family and that's the best part for sure we should be so proud she's been delightful and this would be a great time to make a special announcement and that is that the mayor proclaimed today august 9th as darceyland farmer day so you are here in the museum happy darcy lynn farmer day it's your day happy new day i said humble i don't know maybe not i have um one more question for you okay okay and then we have a special gift from the museum they're one of a kind that you'll never have seen before but i just want to remind our viewers that this has been so it's just a wonderful journey for us and we're so proud and thrilled to bring this exhibit to you it will be up until january 31st of 2021 and i know we have a lot of viewers not just from oklahoma we have people from around the country even in great britain i saw one come through today so yes wow so to all of you i i know you may not be able to make it because of corona but you've got a great sneak peek at the exhibit today and if you appreciate the work we did today we would certainly
