She asked something along the lines of, "If you don't believe in a deity, what do you believe in? How did you get here?" This is the great pitfall of religion, it seeks to provide an answer where there is no acceptable one. I am reminded of the saying that true wisdom is admitting when you don't know things. As an atheist, we can freely admit we have no idea how our 'bubble of consciousness' formed and I think that's not a weakness. That's a strength of the philosophy, it keeps you open to possibilities and doesn't restrict your thoughts or imagination. God is one possible hypothesis for why you came to exist but it's still only one of many. And in the opinion of atheists it's simply not a sufficient explanation.
More than a quarter of a century ago, and yet the debate and the arguments haven't changed.

I think this video is amazing. You can see how far we have come while at the same time how far we still have to go. While it may still be dangerous and taboo for us to be as outspoken as we are about these things, these people were the brave ones who have paved the way for us. I doubt I would have been able to do the same thing, especially in the 80s!
I found it almost eerie how the arguments remain the same, and the confusion about what atheism actually is. It also particularly irked me when Oprah tried to call them out on going on TV to talk about their message... after inviting them onto TV to talk about their message.
Also, holy hell, the ignorance. "The Bible talks about the downfalls of the Greek, Egyptian, and Roman empires!" Are you freaking kidding me?
Oprah looks like a catfish.
