and just as jesus died and rose again we know that our departed brothers and sisters will also share in the new life of jesus's resurrection let us now call to mind our many sins and ask the father's forgiveness for he is full of gentleness and compassion lord jesus you raise the dead to life in the spirit lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you bring pardon and peace to the sinner christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you bring light to those in darkness lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen let us pray listen kindly to our prayers o lord and as our faith in your son raised from the dead is deepened so may our hope of resurrection for your departed servants also find new strength through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen please be seated a reading from the book of wisdom the souls of the just are in the hand of god and no torment shall touch them they send in the view of the foolish to be dead and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us utter destruction but they are in peace for if before men indeed they be punished yet is their hope full of immortality chastise a little they shall be greatly blessed because god tried them and found them worthy of himself as gold in the furnace he proved them and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself in the time of their visitation they shall shine and shall dart about a sparks through stubble they shall judge nations and rule over peoples and the lord shall be their king forever those who trust in him shall understand truth and the faithful shall abide with him in love because grace and mercy are with his holy ones and his scare in with his elect the word of the lord thanks be to god though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me the lord is my shepherd i shall not want in burden pastures he gives me repose beside restful waters he leads me he represses my soul though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me he guides me in right paths for his name's sake even though i walk in the dark valley i fear no evil for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me you spread the table before me in the sight of my foes you anoint my head with oil my cup overflows though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life and i shall dwell in the house of the lord for years to come though i walk in the valley of darkness i fear no evil for you are with me a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters are you unaware that we who were baptized into christ jesus were baptized into his death we were indeed buried with him through baptism into death so that just as christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father we too might live in newness of life for if we have grown into union with him through a death like this we shall also be united with him in the resurrection we know that our old self was crucified with him so that our sinful body might be done away with that we might no longer be in slavery to sin for a dead person has been absolved from sin if then we have died with christ we believe that we shall also live with him we know that christ raised from the dead dies no more death no longer has power over him the word of the lord thanks be to god please stand [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to john glory to you o lord jesus said to the crowds everything that the father gives me will come to me and i will not reject anyone who comes to me because i came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me and this is the will of the one who sent me that i should not lose anything of what he gave me but that i should raise it on the last day for this is the will of my father that everyone who sees the son and believes in him may have eternal life and i shall raise him on the last day the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ please my dear brothers and sisters today we commemorate all the faithful departed and through this mass we pray for them especially those who are dear to us we entrust them to god's mercy that they may be made worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven today's celebration is very much connected to yesterday's solemnity of all saints oh [Music] [Music] we know that in the communion of saints we benefit from the prayers of each other just as the saints pray and intercede for us so also our prayers for our faithful departed benefit them so that they may be made worthy to enter heaven is [Music] my dear brothers and sisters when we talk of death when someone dies usually we say he is gone she is gone we lost him we lost her last but my dear brothers and sisters this is from our human perspective death from our perspective as human beings is about losing a person she is gone we lost him maybe that is the reason why there is so much fear about death because we are afraid to be lost but jesus in our gospel today has very consoling words to each one of us jesus said this is the will of the one who sent me that i should not lose anything of what he gave me but that i should race it on the last day [Music] of isn't these words of jesus very consoling and that is our faith that is our christian view of death that death is not about losing in death no one is lost because jesus will never allow anyone to be lost and this is also the same theme that we heard from our other readings in our first reading from the book of wisdom we are assured that the souls of the just are in the hand of god so for others for especially for the foolish they seem to be dead their passing away was thought an affliction they're going from us utter destruction but no this is not about affliction and destruction they are in peace because they are in the hands of god if we are in the hands of god we are not lost we will never be lost because we are with god and this is also what saint paul in our second reading today assures us that we are with christ and if we share in the death of christ we shall also be one with him in the resurrection is my dear brothers and sisters today and through this mass we remember and we pray for our beloved dead especially those who are dear to us and by commemorating them by praying for them we declare in a very powerful way that we believe that death is not about losing a person death is about a person's passing from this world to god jesus will not allow anyone to be lost they are in the hands of god they share in the resurrection of jesus my dear brothers and sisters today let us pray for all the faithful departed for the members of our families for our friends who have gone before us we pray also for those who have no one to pray for them allah [Music] and let us hold on to our faith in jesus that no one will be lost in death jesus will not allow anyone to be lost we do not we did not lose our departed brothers and sisters they are with jesus we did not lose them heaven gained them please stand we believe in the communion of saints confident in that act of faith let us reach out in prayer for all who have passed away especially those who need the charity of our intercessions for every petition let us say lord hear our prayer lord hear our prayer that the church on earth may never forget the church waiting for the final glory in eternity let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that light and peace may be given to the souls of those who never knew christ in this life let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that people who fear death may find hope in the recent christ and his cleansing forgiveness let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that those who mourn over the loss of their loved ones may be consoled as they pray for the souls of their beloved let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer that the mercy revealed in purgatory may deepen our trust in christ let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer let us bring silence for our personal petitions let us remember the people who need our prayers let us also include all the intentions offered in this mass especially for the souls of the faithful departed lord of life we command into your care the souls of those who wait to share in the glorious resurrection of your son our redeemer who lives and reigns forever and ever amen please be seated [Music] please stand pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may become acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church look favorably on our offerings o lord so that your departed servants may be taken up into glory with your son in whose great mystery of love we are all united who lives and reigns forever and ever amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your heart will lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our jude and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for as one alone he accepted death so that we might all escape from dying as one man he chose to die so that in your sight we all might live forever and so in company with the choirs of angels we praise you and with joy we proclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest please kneel you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me please stand the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and broderick our administrator and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy in silence let us
