All right, here we go in Miami and we should have just another incredible atmosphere inside this ballpark with the roof closed the way the sound reverberates through Loan Depot Park. It has been a treat to be here through pool play and now the quarterfinals and tonight we start the semifinals, the first two semifinal games, Cuba and the United States meeting the World Baseball Classic for the first time ever. Tomorrow night will get Japan and Mexico and then the championship game we'll follow team USA is the home teams. So they'll take the field and one of the true greats, Adam Wainwright, who is 41 years old , one of the oldest players to participate in the world's baseball classic. He will get the start and takes the mound for team USA. So Cuba will come up in the top of the first inning. Let's look at the lineup for the Cuban team role, Santos the left fielder, he hits leadoff, then the two big names from the big leagues and Luis Robert in the 23 spots. Alfredo despaigne has been a great player for a long time all time. World baseball classic. Lieder with seven homeruns in this tournament. Bahr Ib--ez Martinez Drake, and are the remaining players in that Cuban lineup and they will face the veteran right hander. Adam Wainwright for USA. Well, we know Adam Wainwright and he's going to throw strikes a lot of strikes early, an often he's going to try to get to be a little bit early on his, on his change up a little bit early on his slider and then try to zip that fastball. We know what he boy has he been consistent has ever in 2020 to with the Cardinals with 32 starts and a 371. But let's take a look at his arsenal team. Cuba is going to have to deal with, we know about the curveball, especially with runners in scoring position. He likes to steal strike, but let's go to the sinker cutter four seam changeup off of that. The curveball sinker is the way he goes to work. It's curveballs down in the zone , sinkers down in the zone with the cutter and forcing to finish you off, especially for the right handed hitters behind Adam Wainwright, the defense for team USA and they've been a really solid defensive team in this tournament. Kyle Schwarber plays the field here tonight. He's in left field and center Betts in right one of the all time greats at third base. Toerner the shortstop Tim Anderson made perhaps a game saving play defensively last night against Venezuela. Goldsmith will Smith gets the nod catching in this semifinal game caught last night, Smith Gose tonight. And here we go from Miami with a spot in the championship game on the line. It is remarkable. These two teams have never met the World Baseball Classic and it comes here in South Florida. Here we go, Roel Santos, the left fielder against Wainwright and he takes ball one the outside test the home plate umpire early in the game. He wants to see how far he can get off, especially with the fastball down by Tim Anderson from the ground the first time Santos who is very fast, able to beat it out. Well, the very speedy role Santos hit sharply. Tim Anderson just did whatever he could to knock it down. Just two much speed from Santos Cuba in their history and tournament. They like to play small ball. They're a team that early and often they will, but they want to put as much pressure as possible on team USA has always been the style for the Cuban national team even when they have had some of the greats sluggers in the world at the play. Now, it's sort of hard to imagine playing small ball with mocatta and Luis Robert He's had a great tournament in a for 19 4 20 won average with one homer batting left handed against Wainwright after that slow curveball and pulls it foul. That's the curveball that Wainwright likes to throw. It's a little bit curveball like that one right there to steal strike later in the at bat. He likes to berry that curve ball down, kind of makes it look like the fastball, he'll, he'll ride the curveball with whatever the fastball is that he has that day. Let's see if Santos has any idea about going that one a little bit Lowe John Payne is our home plate umpire tonight. Big league umpire early. He's been very tight. How much given the scouting report on John typically is kind of the rule book strike zone umpire. 212 good cutter right there. That's the thing about Wainwright. He does such a good job on reading hitters. They feel they're pulling off, he'll, he'll expose the back door cutter and the changeup six man crew for the semifinals and then the championship game and it will be the six umpires with us together, a different alignment the next three nights , another curve and Moncada stays alive. You're, if you are the Cuban hitters though, you got to understand velocity is not going to beat me. I just have to get a pitch up in the zone that I can drive rather than that you use. If you get a little bit too exposed on being aggressive, will be in trouble. Still two to Moncada. Big chopper off the mound. Wainwright is going to let it pick it up, then it was too late to hit in no man's land right there. That's a high chopper. Moncada can absolutely smell it. Too much speed right there. You know, the 41 year old and a slick getting off the mound right there. He brought himself a base hit. So Cuba has not hit a ball out of the infield. They have two on and nobody out to be a big boost for this team because they are major underdogs in this game. It would be a big boost to get out to a quick start and he likes to throw that breaking ball early kind of steel strike. But Luis Robert is an ambush curveball could be troubles. Luis Robert right off the end of the and it goes right past Wainwright. It's happened again. Oh my goodness, Cuba's hardly done anything. They have the bases loaded, just an uncharacteristic player right there by way. Right. Just didn't get under it. A lot of times you tend to Russian, especially when they're speed on on the basis. That's all that happened there. You see him go under the glove. Wow. Kind of incredible, stunning the start. Hear still no runs on the board , but it's set up now for a guy who has been so many of these moments still going alfredo Despaigne designated hitter, a very dangerous hitter, very quick bat, the all time world baseball classic, leader of home runs hit. He jumps ahead one to know we talked about the rank's and he's the leader of the worlds baseball classic Homers second in R B I S, he's a very dangerous. There was a time where people would have told you this guy might be one of the great hitters in the world. I'm not sure that's still true, but I know he still dangerous. Now, the curve and it's two and oh, it has been comparisons of him, Manny Ramirez, some, one of the best right handed hitters in our game that ever played. And that was the comparison early on the 2009 tournament. I mean, he was the guy, not necessarily a fastball count here but rain right bases loaded. Nobody out. And that's a fastball right there. So Moncada Luis Robert the too big big league slugger's to Spanier and Santos who got all started with his speed, kind of a classic leadoff hitter profile. The top of the Cuban lineup has set it up for despond. Will Smith going through the sides with Adam Wainwright who is in a big time jam and swing and a foul two to I mean, this is, this is what we've seen in Miami. Almost no matter what the matchup tonight, we knew it would be coming again. This is the top of the first inning and almost everybody is standing up American players talking about the atmosphere last night and many of them say it was the greatest baseball atmosphere they've ever experienced. Loudest, most intense. The two to the count is three to , you've got to get credits right here to this finding. You know, he's understanding that hey, velocity is really not gonna be me. He stayed away from, I think you would trade two outs for a run, double plays in session here. I know that Mark DeRosa would because he's worried about covering nine innings tonight. Three to it has walked in a row. Cuba still has not gotten the ball out of the infield. It's one nothing and we don't have any outs. So you celebrate a walk with a run. You've got to get credit to Cuba started with Sean Tantos. It was pressure early and often , I mean, for Adam Wainwright, he has been through so many big games over the years. So many spots like this, Wainwright is not going to panic out there but things have not gone well for him in the first inning. We don't want to belabor the point, but there is a lot of pressure on Adam to give the United states' teams some length as the starter tonight because they just don't have a lot of arms available in there. Bullpen have some other starting pitchers they can use. I'm sure Mark DeRosa already kind of thinking about the possibility. So still nobody out and a first pitch taken a curveball for a ball. That's the short stop very spell , Arruabarrena. He's hit a home run in this world's baseball classic. Been around a long time. Two and one reasonable people right here. Got to be very careful without his bell right handers. A lot of talented baseball players have come out of their pitch is a curve right there. Will Smith did well you see this pitch right hear he was expecting a fastball up and in that was a curveball, that old give John campaign some credit. That was clearly a strike sometime. So you crossed up catcher and that's not going to get called a strike swing and a miss helped him out, chased up high to it to that was going to be the key early and often can these hitters control the strike zone so far they have. Adam Wainwright could use it out. Here's the two to curve on the ground is going to come home, cut down the lead run there. Moncada forced out but instead of taking the double play in the first inning, no, I think he could have turned the double play, got the out at home. So it's still won nothing but only one out to talk about it. But you talk about how important every run is. Think team usa understands that too constraining away two outs and all of a sudden, I would think you can rely on to score more runs, but to, he was running down the line very well to. So I think that's a mixture of Nolan knowing who was running a slow groundball to just getting out. I trust my guy Wainwright this pitch and pops it up in the infield, infield fly rule has been called. So the out, as soon as the umpires called it, the hitter was out. Anderson a little confusion. Their Anderson did make the catch laughing about it right now. Sure handed Tim Anderson was all over and that's, again, that's trusting Nolan right there saying they wainwright, I think you're just better than these hitters. Go get two outs. You know, I think for me to, for team USA, it's been a win for, for team Cuba team USA. Now with 21 pitches thrown in Wainwright, that's a pickle right now getting through the rest of this game. And I think you're right. But if Cuba only gets the one run out of this, I think that the United States is going to be a very satisfied Q shot foul on the first pitch to Ariel Martinez. He's the catcher in the seventh place. Center is, had only one hit in this world baseball classic. A lot of the advanced out of the pool. There was a five way tie in that school. Everybody was two and two is the tiebreaker that advanced Cuba and then they beat Australia to get here on the ground to shortstop. Turner's got it and he throws a little bit high, but Goldsmith kept his foot on the bag and Adam Wainwright limited damage. Only the one will go to the bottom of the first. Cuba takes the early lead but only the one run. Now, this explosive lineup for team USA comes up in the bottom of the first Betts Trout, Goldsmith, Nolan Arnada, the cleanup hitter Schwarber playing in left field tonight. Will Smith, the catcher Pete Alonso against the lefty starter. He's the Th Tim Anderson and Trey Turner with an all time moment, bring the United states' from behind two ahead essentially in the game late with a grand slam and they'll face a guy who's got some decent major league experience. Roenis El-as Roenis El-as Guantanamo. He's a guy who is a hard thrower 92 to 95 miles an hour. He's got good curveball, good changeup. He's just got to work down and get a lot of strikes. Has always been. Can you throw enough strikes. Mookie Betts with strike one first inning offense for the United states' last night? They got three. That's like a base hit over the leaping attempt of Moncada all the way into the corner and Mookie Betts into second with a leadoff double. He was ready for that fastball early and often Mookie sits Heater Hill just after that. Try to come in there with the fastball miss location. Yoan Moncada could not do much. That was an absolute rocket. I think there's any downfall yesterday's game. I don't think so. It was the only, it wasn't really a concern for a Mark DeRosa but did say his words, two, his team, we're gonna involve like, ok, we can't have a letdown after the high emotions of last night, Mike Trout, he was trying to make it 21 USA with one swing. It's not exactly a secret as to why the American team has been a good offensive team in the first inning of some of those games you start off with Mookie Betts Mike Trout did Paul Goldschmidt pretty good way to begin the game. That's exactly right. When Mark DeRosa, really, the Meccage early on in this, in this tournament was, hey, any given day anybody can beat you. You've got to bring it because if you just happen to have one bad night, it's over for you. So true ball from Trout has got him to chase there. It's one to, I would think he would stay soft here in this next pitch. He's had to good hacks on the fastball. You can go up the ladder. That's kind of where a lot of pictures go to Mike Trout late. You've got to be very careful if it's three or four inches down its 2 to 1 ball game. Here's the one too Trout right center field and it's going to be caught coming in hard, makes the catch. You made a great player right there. That is a tough, tough play coming in right there. You got all of a sudden these fourth decks that you cant really read these soft liners. Its very loud. You can't tell if you hit hard or not. A very good play we saw that last night, there were a bunch of balls that were hit like that that fell in and even going back into pool play. It has been a factor with the factor's that you're describing sound the backdrop. So now Goldsmith high breaking ball given for strike 12. Goldsmith, yeah, that's the tying runner at second one out and down the left field line toward the corner usa he's alive and well know left from last night he goes with delivers what a shot that was what they say, trying to throw a little cheese past the wrap wrap more than I would get you. He was absolutely ready for that fastball inside. Not a bad pitch but oh my goodness, when you're throwing those pitches to the National League MVP, even good pitches get demolished. That was 112 miles an hour off the bat. How simple it was. I mean, he hit that with his back hip. It felt like a beautiful gets out in a hurry. The 112 Coronado's fouled off to the right out of play. Talked to Nolan a little bit about his back, the new use of his back with his handle. It kind of went with that new modern look on the knob says, you know, I feel really good with it. I feel like I am very balanced. I can hit velocity. You see Goldsmith right there with a lot of the information went around to strike three, talks about buckling. That's basically not moving forward on the pitch. A lot of hitters terms right there, boys, I missed that those hitters terms. Buckle up your seat belts, that back hit needs to stay really tight back there. So you can see that baseball and explode. Talking about Paul Goldsmith, how prepared he is every single day and what a pro plays every day about a steady of an all around player fields. His position, well, gold glove caliber at first base. Great baserunner hits for average hits for power. He is hitting third in this lineup of some of the greatest hitters in the world. Tells you something. That's his first home run in this world's baseball classic. Couldn't have come at a bigger moment. Us a ahead now after falling behind Kyle Schwarber, speaking of ahead, its three balls and no strikes got the lead back. Now, we can just go to work and have some shorter innings takes ball four. Elias was very, very careful with him not offering anything. And that is interesting. The first lefty to come up against Elias And that's the guy that he really was reluctant to challenge Armando Johnson, the manager for Cuba was looking a little more perky in the top of the first inning. Things have changed for him. One and I think if you get a lead on the team usa you'll be perky. But after that is, it's an absolute mission. Yeah, just such a tough lineup to navigate. It can be very perfect, but all of a sudden it's a nightmare. Now, we've got a meeting on the mound after ball one to Will Smith manager for team USA. We've been talking a lot about Mark DeRosa. It's funny too. Talk to zero because we've known for a long time. One of the great personalities in the game. This is first chance to manage a team. This was his first managerial experience. And you ask him like, are you enjoying it? He hesitates because he, he has loved it. But there is a lot of pressure managing this team. There sure is you talk about, I think the one thing he has loved more is his son being able to interact with all these big leaguers, right? All these stars, superstars of our game, son Brooks has been around, his favorite player has been around the batting cage and Mark who played the world baseball classic in 2009, Smith , head of a changeup changeup there to, you know, it really is the type of guy that he's a backwards pitcher, meaning and, and hitter's counts. Gil go soft when he's winning. The count will go hard. TV. Doubles up here in the dirt with the curve. That was kind of the moves for Gausman you know, you got strike one and all of a sudden he was ready, it's like he was ready for that fastball knowing that he was up in the count. Okay. Kind of a half swing and a slow roller to second and they'll tag Schwarber does for out number three, but Paul Goldschmidt, a two run home run has put the United states' ahead 2 to 1, 451 combined major league wins between Andy Pettitte and Adam Wainwright and quite an important mound visit in the first inning with one run in and the bases still loaded. After that petite advice helped Wainwright retired the next three hitters as he came off the field said, that's what I'm talking about. Drives one foul down the right field line for a strike one as we start the second. I mean, it makes everybody feel good. You go out for a meeting and then you execute, you get out. It's like, okay, I think a lot of it was slowing him down saying, hey, they haven't even hit the ball of the infield yet. Just make your pitches, trust your stuff. One strike, count your Wainwright right now. You want to limit this inning. You want to make it a quicker inning. Talk. That's the right curve ball. One or two. Better ask for time. Now bakin one to on the ground. Nobody there so far. It's been a pretty good game plan for Cuba just hit a ground ball. That was a well struck balls on a back door. Two seamer that was ready for Matanzas first baseman. Look at him go with. It reminds me so much of Marcell Ozuna swing kind of steps in the bucket, but lets the ball travel, uses his hands and he's got a lot of power which we know of. But he's a guy that you've got to be very careful with. These. Had a great tournament hitting over 400 I would think right now , this is the situation for team Cuba to play small bottom part of the order, the left fielder squared around like you might and takes that big curve ball for strike one very hard to, but a curveball more than that with that spin. If you just touch it, it goes right up for a pop up. A lot of times, I would think he's going to sacrifice. Hear, he's got to give himself up, squaring around again. Another curve that's how you beat it. The question becomes hear. Do you take the bun off more than that? We will see where he stands in the box. If he's behind all the way in the back of the box, he's going to hit. If he goes forward in the box, that means he's trying to give himself an angle too. But the ball to first base right now, he looks like he's going to swing and swing it. Everybody is going to go back, Wainwright. So to fouled away. Well, look, if you play this way against a team as good as team U S A over 162 games. That would probably not a good strategy giving about playing small ball. But that's the thing for Cuba, their history in these elimination type tournaments, tournament play. It has been a very effective style. Two. Got him with the curve. We talked about how important that curveball is for rain, right? He showed it early and he finished him later in that bat. That's a curveball right there with good spin. It looks like a strike and all of a sudden drops off the table. I'm going to spin on this. Oh my goodness. In an amazing, he's 41 years old last year. He started 30 two games. Unbelievable consistency. Just tell you how magical him and Lowe were the all time most frequent combination of starting pitcher and catcher in the history of the game. And it will be, it's going to be a different seeing Wainwright pitched this year without Yandy Diaz Yeah, 11 Santos back up for his second at bat had the infield hit and scored the first run for Cuba goes to work him in with that cutter right there. He likes to go soft down and away or maybe the two seamer big bouncer to second Anderson. His only play is to first. So he gets the out there two down runner in scoring position with Moncada coming up. It's been an incredible career and one of the all time great Cardinals third and that historic franchises history and games starting 35 200 wins, 2567 innings pitched a, he'll be, as soon as he walks off the field for the last time, it might be waiting for his career has faced Ken Griffey Jr and he faces Juan Soto. His career has spanned a full generation of big leaguers, Moncada. A chance to tie the game a strike one again, almost looked like I don't know if that was cross up or one thing about he throws six pitches a right there. He's telling him we're going to go to see that pitch right here. That's a second one already. Curve love hasn't cost team usa everything yet. But you know, obviously you don't want that. Wainwright is throwing a lot of cutters. 11, will he challenge them here with another cutter? It's got to be executed if not one of the Moore dangerous hitters in this lineup. And as you said again, he's been swinging the bat. Well, 11 way outside problem with working around Moncada, you say, okay, Moncada is a guy. I don't want him to beat me first base is open, but Luis Robert is on deck. So I'm not sure that you pitch around Moncada to go after that guy on the ground foul. Now it's two and two when he's gone soft in the first at bat and very soft in the second. I bet no secret here. If your Moncada you've got to understand, hey, he's not really gonna challenge me. I gotta stay soft and I got to be disciplined in the strike zone. Yes. On the ground. The second nice high hop for Tim Anderson. And number three, Wainwright worked around a leadoff single midway through to its 2 to 1 USA even as Pete Alonso struggled to make an impact offensively for team USA, Mark DeRosa said he knew there was going to come a time when team USA needed him. Well, that arrived last night, eighth inning. A key pinch hit that earned him this start. Now as a team U S A is th so Alonso in there tonight. And Mark DeRosa, what he described Alonso's hit as a long but he also said, I think that's really going to start. He said, will get him going, talk to them earlier today. I said, how much wait have you lost? Said, you know, all I did was run a little bit more this offseason and certainly has paid off. I feel like my bat speed is back where I wanted to be my legs feel good. And the reason I wanted to slim down a little bit is to have that Moore agile quickness in between pitches. Oh to and I think sometimes you player changes his body in the off season. Spring training becomes a little more important to kind of get used to how it all feels. Could be one of the reasons why Alonso's had a World baseball classic two and two you liked, even last night before that hit , fell in you, like, even just a couple of takes kind of the way he looked at the play like that one right there. There, he just took, it's that one high into center field. Luis Robert squares up just sort of the track and makes the catch. That's a quality at bat right there by Pete. He just missed that ball just a little bit out in front, but you should be happy with that. Especially eye always felt like your first at bat. If you make a, a deep fly ball out to the gaps, you're, you're in business for your next at bats, so not this time for it. Alonzo Tim Anderson will step up Anderson to be gets a lot of credit for last night's dramatic come from behind win. He had a walk that started the rally that won the game for the United States and he made a defensive play that was perhaps a game saver in the inning when it was all going wrong for the United States. If he had made a really great play to get an out that could have turned into a, just a disaster. No, is the first question of the night for Mark Corozzo, the manager for team USA, hey, talked about that played Tim Anderson and he said, hey, that could have been, that could have been ugly, ugly inning, right? There if he hadn't made that way , it was ugly enough, but really appreciated getting it out because that was Luis Chorizo ended up hitting two home runs in the game, just hit a rocket and Anderson stabbed it. He got a run home, but he got it out. It just helped the United States limit the damage somewhat. Two to Anderson takes it a little bit high. Elias thought it one strike three. A lot of time is the way you catch that ball. Martinez the catcher, he kind of jumped up a little bit on the pitch. Gotta stay soft back there on the ground past him out. And second, that's a changeup right there. He's thrown quite a few of them this inning. He throws just enough fastball to keep to keep you was a hitter kind of entertained with the fastball, but more, they're not a lot of the time. It's a lot of breaking balls. Now, this has been watching yesterday. Toerner hit a homer with the changeup. Got to be careful with the changeup. He was behind 02 when he hit that grand slam. I think he slept last night. She was on cloud nine. He hammers this one to last trade. Toerner Muscling up in Miami. It is gone. US. Toerner last night on a changeup tonight on a fastball. What a hitter? What a player? He's a power guy now for team USA hitting nice. That was crushed. Now, trying to sneak that cheese 428 ft. Look at that fastball pitch. Toerner Mookie Betts He's got himself another hit to lead off the game for the United States with a double and now two out single. And that was a changeup. There was on Toerner with the fastball was on it. Look at that swing. Look how compact, look how based it is as well as soon as he left the back, you've got to start 31 ball game, three home runs in this world. A baseball classic, incredible moment last night first at bat from Mike Trout, two fastballs. Mike Trout missed Elias Go back to the fastball, fastball and he got the swing and Miss Mike Charles shaking his head. Okay. Okay, big boy. All right out to center field. Luis Robert at the wall will make the catch not quite for Mike Trout, but for Trey Turner two nights in a row, three times in this world baseball classic. Trey Turner goes deep. It's 3 to 1 USA. You know how baseball players could be superstitious about their gear. Well, apparently that's not trade Toerner here was the scene in the dugout after that home run. He just threw away the batting gloves he was wearing. Now it appears that maybe its split as he's explaining Kyle Schwarber. But guys, I'm not usually a collector, I might have to do a little mission into the dugout to fish that out of the rubbish there. That's that's going to be a collectors item. Dave. Don't. Dumpster diving J P please. I'm into distinguished. You've got to go in there. First pitch was a strike. This one from Luis Robert lifted to right Mookie Betts for out number one JP. Get in there. Maybe he could quietly kind of sneak back there and nobody will notice him. What a snake though. What a player Philly. Philly fans are going to love it. I remember watching him in San Diego is the number one pick and he had been traded in spring training, but he had to stay with San Diego. And I remember talking to him as an 18 year old boy and I said, hey, you're going to have a great, great career with that attitude. He would come earlier every single day, get to work, understood what he was all about. Wainwright throws high and so despondent reaches base safely and moves to second. Anderson finally comes up with the ball, have been a gold glove showing for Adam Wainwright in the field tonight. Even as he settled down as a pitcher. Yeah, just very uncharacteristic. I guarantee you. You ask Wainwright, he'll tell you. Yeah, just unlike me right there doesn't set his feet, just grabs it and throws it. So instead of two down, nobody on like we've got a long way to go. Feels like the United states' offenses just going to be too much tonight. But there's a lot of baseball to be played. Marina takes a curve ball outside for ball. One, one thing you got to give credit for Cuba is they've had people on base every inning, you know, in the first inning with the bases loaded, couldn't capitalise on more, but last inning as well, getting that base hit to start the inning and all of a sudden now this is the second and threatening two and oh outs are precious on the pitching side for the United States tonight. If they win and move into the championship game, they get tomorrow to kind of reset the bullpen and Mark DeRosa feels very comfortable that on Tuesday night, they would have the full compliment of the bullpen and can cover the game tonight a little easier. Pop up shallow. Right Anderson out Betts in and Mookie will make the call and the catch great right over and over again. He just shows you what he is all about, right. The character of making really good pitches when I needed most had a good 21 to a curveball right there. Breaking ball, got the swing for the pop up all of a sudden. Now you want to eliminate this heading early, especially in this at bat two down runners at second Ib--ez against Wainwright. No, it just hasn't had the control that we're used to seeing from Wainwright, right? Just pinpoint with the two seamer pinpoint with his curveball, his cutter just havent seen that he's been cannot be maybe the shake of just not starting getting every fifth day reps possibly could be. This is only his second appearance in this world's baseball classic. So, even though he's been with a team USA, they've worked out, he's done sort of the normal spring training side work to build up at this time of year. You can ask any player, especially the 41 year old. He's a, he's a creature of habit A lot of times when you don't have that, you know, that, that same habit, that same routine every day, it could be a little bit of an adjustment period. Look at those numbers right there. Uh Elite starts the innings, the winds 21, two high. Martinez has said of the, the 80 pitch limit is in play for Wainwright. He could push him up close to that number. He's already throwing more pitches than he did in his first outing. So the rest, the type of guy though to, he'll tell the Rosa, hey, you know, I am good or I think I could give you one more that one hit to center field and hit Trout onto the track to make the catch. Gave a good ride, an error. No runs will go to the bottom of the third with Goldsmith coming up, I think for Paul Goldschmidt , coming back to play in another baseball classic after the six year. Wait, part of the motivation for wanting to play for this team was to put up better numbers. He was not thrilled. He went one for 13, for United States, won the championship and he was a part of their, the world baseball classic winning team, but he wanted to have a better tournament and he certainly has into the bullpen. Now, Cuba Miguel Romero has gotten more strikeouts than any pitcher in the world. A baseball classic to this 0.12. In fact, with no walks, he's throwing the ball. Well, he's got a good fastball, mid to upper nineties, got a good slider to go with his, with the Oakland A's organization. He's a guy to with the A's the number 27 prospect on MLB dot com. That's part of the story for a lot of teams who fill their rosters with a mix of big leaguers and some who haven't gotten their yet or have been their and aren't their anymore. But as well, Smith takes outside two. No, for the young guys who haven't had major league experience yet or not. A lot of it. What an opportunity with high adrenaline against some of the best players in the world to test yourself. Let's see if he test Goldsmith here in the to account. Got a call. That's his new pitch. He developed that pitch in 2021 that changeup. He was primarily a fastball slider guy and he doubled up its a good count to double up, especially after that take from Paul Grossman. He wasn't looking for that pitch. 21 fouled away. Other numbers are good. Yeah, he's struggling. He struck out a lot of people when he comes into the game, that's what he wants. He wants two strike out everybody. He's got a good changeup. A really good slider. No about that fastball, but he's a guy that definitely relying on hopefully keep the game 321 and reach here's the two to three to. So he hasn't walked anybody yet in the tournament. We also hasn't faced anybody like Paul Goldschmidt until tonight tree. They've, they've has been a steady diet of changes and sliders. Mhm. Three to foul ball, good swing right there. He's just so elite. A wave of the Home Depot parking. A little Havana. Those were the best in these fans here in Miami. Just been so good from pool play here in two elimination play and it's about this time of every game where they just decide. Ok, it's time to do a wave. We'll save are tense, cheering intensity for later in the game. Third inning. Let's do the wave. What a fun tournament has been with you and I have been here the whole time and just not had a bad game in one game after another. He struck him out another strikeout for Miguel Romero. Not much to it. A little deception crossfire, but look how far he walks off the mound, huh? Having you're walk right there after a strikeout. Most pitchers walk around the mound. He went straight to first base, got to love it. Here's our Nado changeup ran way inside. Renato struck out his first at bat. A lot of good at bats though. The world baseball classic is that one? Sharply a foul. He hasn't really featured that nineties fastball. I would think either something's bothering him or he's just going soft off and a little more softer another offspeed pitch and Arnada was on it base hit. I mean, it's really interesting because that's the scouting report on him. Got a big fastball can use the fastball. We haven't seen it. Roland wasted no time there on that slider how he stays through this pitch. Look at his head, his head stays down. I feel like out of all the right handers in today's game. He is one of the guys that when he makes contact, he is the best and not tracking the ball when he hits and he just stays completely down on the ball. That's why you see all the consistency throughout his years. What a ballplayer. What a, what a hitter. There were some as great as he was. There were some questions when he left Coors Field would be as good as good or better. Kyle Schwarber Drew a walk his first time up. It's almost like Cuba's circled Kyle Schwarber of all of these hitters is the guy we don't wanna throw strikes to three at all. I would think he has a green line here, kind of put this game and in airplane mode, as I like to say it, 30 Schwarber has walked and hit by a pitch and almost nothing even close to the strike zone. He had nowhere to go there, highlighted at bat right there. He's not going to beat us 30 slider at this point. What I'm seeing, it's just 85 to 86 miles an hour and a, a nice little slider. I mean, these hitters are the best in the world. I would think Romero is in a big , big pickle here. Doesn't seem like there's same kind of stuff that Scotland report says their is from Miguel Romero. Now will Smith two on one out us a leading 3 to 1 too. Homeruns already got the high strike but catching tandem for the United States to have Real Muto and Will Smith on the same team. No, that one was called a ball, huh? See the replay right there on it. I mean, that was a strike just missed it. Not much to it. There wasn't much nuance to whether it is a strike or not. Well off the outside J P Bryan mccann on the U S coaching staff has a great comparison for Will Smith and Dave, you know him. Well, Buster Posey. Okay. I'm not sure I'm going their yet. I've been playing with Buster since college days, Miami and the, the Seminoles. Oh, those are hi, high praises. They are different in terms of their style of hitting. Buster was just a pure hitter and the home runs came, but Buster Posey was not a big home. Will. Smith's got a lot of power. You know what I like about Buster as, you know, we know the hitting was there but the ability to be a sergeant on the field and he can call a game like, like nobody else. Ultimate unbelievable, so smart back there, got his trust early on as well as a rookie. Well, I mean, for Brian mccann, essentially what it says is super high praise for Wilson like he believes will Smith is a really a really good player. Will Smith throughout his year's , he hits really good pitching as well. Three and two. Romero and Smith pulls one foul. We just haven't seen this stuff from Miguel Romero, Carlos Vieira in the Cuban bullpen getting loose. Alonso waiting to hit next three to ball four. So a walk to load the bases and bring Alonso to the plate. I would think a good mound visit here would be ideal, got beat Alonso coming up in a serious situation. I mean, this game can really get out of hand. There's no better feeling to come in with bases loaded but not two outs. I mean, everything gets simplified for you. All you gotta do is get a good high pitch up that you can drive in the middle of the field is always going to be your friend. Peter Lanza. Look very, very good, especially in his first at bat, hit it deep fly ball to left center, just missed it. That's a spirited conversation on the mound campaign coming out to finally break it up. We don't have, we don't have the World baseball classic. The new pitch clock rules. We talked about that a lot. We also don't have the limit on mount meetings and teams have used that and push the limits. There are taking advantage of. We've had a lot of meetings. Oh, here we go, Pete Alonso waiting for his moment in this world's baseball classic. And now he asked for time after all that waiting, Romero still didn't want to throw a pitch. Alonso line drive base hit left field. He was on Barnato scores. Schwarber gets the stop sign as the throw comes home, it's 4 to 1. Well, since he entered the league in the national league, he's led all hitter's and home runs. That was in a home run, but that was an absolute rocket. A signature moment for Pete Alonso gets the fastball down in the zone and look at Pete how tight he is with the back elbow connected the two hand finish which I love got himself an R B I in a knock 113.8 off the bat. That's a big league knock right there. That was what you were, you noticed Paul Goldschmidt in the dugout talking to Pete Alonso back in the first inning about that sort of those mechanics, grab your seat belts and go to work. Pitching coach came out again and he's the one who makes the pitching change. We will be back right after this. The bond of rivals from what until tonight was the most important game in the history of U S and Cuba in baseball. That was the 2000 summer Olympic games. There's Ernie Young and the current Cuba pitching coach Pedro Luis Lasso and here is Ernie Jung tonight, Ernie Young with two R B I to help team USA win that gold medal with Tommy Lasorda leading the way back in the 2000 Olympics. So there is some history between the United State's national team and the Cuban national team, but this is the first meeting in the World baseball Classic between Cuba and the U S. Carlos Vieira out of the bullpen third pitcher of the night and he throws a fastball, Tim Anderson 1000 straight back, Carlos Vieira. He was named the 2011 2012 rookie of the year in the Cuban National Series. He's been around for a while. He was in the Mexican League right now. 34 years old inherits the bases loaded with one out on that piggyback on. It is the first time that Cuba has faced USA here in South Florida, which we know about 95% of feels like here at this stadium is very heavily and Cuban based oriented. Yeah, part of what has made the lead up into tonight's game such a big deal because the Cuban national team for more than six decades has not played in South Florida, the centre of the Cuban American population in the neighborhood called Little Havana. One to guarantee you these fan's here like myself, Cuban born a part of your Hart is with the Cuban people. Cuban Island, the island itself. But the other part tells u hey, I've come to the United States, the place where dreams come true , where you have an opportunity to create, you're dreams like my parents did for me. So guarantee you a lot of tough emotions right now. But enjoying the game of baseball, Anderson to center field, Luis Robert glides over two down tagging from third Schwarber and he'll come into score. It's 5 to 1 trying to do too much right there. And Tim Anderson it's a pitch up in the zone and we're always talk about when the bases loaded and you don't have two outs. Your best friend's centerfield, that's what you want to hit the baseball and that's what Tim Anderson added right there. And now you get your old ninth play centre to come up, trade Jabu, as I like to say, let's take a look at the comparisons in homer yesterday last night, hanging changeup. And tonight's fastball, both of them would have been out of here in any ballpark, especially no doubters last night was in the bigger spot was more dramatic. Tonight was just blasted. Now, let's see if he can trade job this. Oh, here we go. Oh, darn it a little chopper to third snaps. The throw to first to get the speedy trade. Toerner He's still got a chance. He'll be up again 5 to 1 USA, we go to inning number four and the United states' offense, I know it only says six hits, but the American offense flexing its muscles here in Miami last night and again tonight, the 51 lied after falling behind one and Adam Wainwright, it hasn't been perfect while he may be missing some pitchers fielding practice from spring training. He's managed to do a nice job and limit the damage still in the game against the bottom part of the order. Martinez, the catcher. He just hasn't had that feel for any of his pitches. To be honest. A lot of times you see him, one of the things about Wainwright when we would go over the scouting report is don't let him get on top of you, meaning don't let him win the first pitch of the at bat today. A lot of to owes a lot of one of those yet, a lot of soft contact , but he's been pitching a little backwards. Here's his two. Oh, that's a strike to guarantee you after the game. He's gonna say something along the lines of that's got to get tightened up before the big leagues season starts. Right? Mookie Betts is there to make the catch the ball. Let's take a look at the weird night of Adam Wainwright and especially that defense. I know this is a tough place against Yoan Moncada, speedy Moncada. But this is a play I think he would make in his sleep at least to get one out, you know that right there. Just not sitting his feet and just a remaining Goldsmith you can tell he's like those are, those are place I need back. Mhm. First pitch swinging too. Shortstop Trea Turner throws him out. I just love how Toerner moves his feet to the ball. He gets so behind the baseball on the ground ball, little choppy steps gets two the spot. Look at the choppy steps right there. That's how you control your eyes. That's how you control your hands. And Great Ron Washington always says good hands come from good feet. You can move your feet more than that. You're going to have always good hands and get yourself in the best hopes. Mhm. Two outs. Keibert takes a strike. You've got some really good filters here and a lot of those guys they work on moving their feet. Yeah, sure. They have good hands and they have good arms but more than not there feet is there. Go to curve. Did he go? No, you have such a depth of talent for team U S A.I mean, Jeff mcneil won the batting title last year. He is not even playing most nights because Tim Anderson has volunteered to move over to play a second Bobby win. You can't get in at bat these days. Line right back up the middle two strike count the night with a nice swing. That's a good swing right there. Just a miss location by Wainwright again, it's a little two. Seamer. He wanted to freeze, get Bert on. It was just up in the zone. Heart of the plate. I don't care what type hitter you are more than not. You get that pitch, you'll do something with it. So now Royal Santos one for two with a single, the only Cuban run so far. Top 42 down. Mhm. No, just outside. You know, one thing though you got speed everywhere. Santos has given high speed and he got the biggest hitters. Four Cuba lined up after this. Santos could reach base then maybe Cuba could really put some pressure on Wainwright. That was a swing. 1 to 2. One thing for Cuba, they've had runners on bass every inning. Let's see if the went. Oh, yeah, he went and Then was there. That one is lifted to center. Trout. Got to read on it and he will make the catch one hit. No runs. We go to the bottom half and guess who's coming up. Mookie Betts Mike Trout and Paul goldschmidt for team USA. Well, it does look like Adam Wainwright is going to be finished for the night. Managed to give after the way this game started, you've got to give him credit. He managed to give the United States for innings on the mound. We go to the bottom of the fourth 5 to 1. He and team USA with the lead at the top of the order for the United States. Mookie Betts takes a ball one. Wainwright for innings five hits the one run. I think he's probably saying something along those lines. Dugout right now. Vieira gets the swing and Miss Miles Michaelis warming up his Cardinals teammate. A lot of Cardinals Goldschmidt, Mikolas Wainwright. It's either that or so many good guys are this team with good players on the same team. Talk about the Phillies and Schwarber, Toerner JT Ram-n Rosso I mean, quit hogging the spots. Those teams have a lot of good players. It's not a coincidence to like that. Giolito Guavapass. I very much liked it. So we've graduated. I had the Aceto. You brought me an empanada. What's tomorrow going to bring into a new house? You're moving to Miami, baby. This is your home. This is a long way from home for me. I have loved being here. It's not like I havent spent a lot of time in Miami, but it's been great and the spirit for baseball in this park in this world's baseball classic has been, it's been hard for us to describe. We let the pictures do the describing packed house every night, every game twice a day when we will have in the doubleheaders in pool play. It has felt like the festival of baseball. 32 hits hard to shortstop, went away first time. Mookie made it out in this game all three times. So three barrels. Meanwhile, Mike Trout has hit the ball hard times. It doesn't have anything to show for it. He's exciting, isn't he? And you described it will last night, it's just, it's fun to see him. He's playing the World Baseball Classic for the first time and it's just really fun to see him enjoy it so much. I, after that homer from trade Toerner I had never seen that excitement from Trout and all I kept thinking was, can we get Trout in a postseason game if he's going to act like this? That's going to be so much fun. He's only played in three playoff games in his career. He's never won a playoff game. And it's what makes this sports so different from so many other sports where you can have the guy who is basically unanimously considered the greatest talent in the world. Mark DeRosa said, it said, you know, we have a really talented roster, but then theres Mike Trump and when they, that's talk about their praises and I've asked guys here on the team, I said, Nolan House, Mike Tres says, Oh my goodness. He is unreal. That's exactly what he told us. Struck him out. Trout goes down on the fastball. That's a good two seamer right there. Dave, to me, the biggest change since eye covered my first classic 10 years ago has been the emotion of the American players. They've given themselves that license to lose themselves in the tournament and it's elevated the entire emotion of the event in that way. And dave me, it truly sets the potential of this sky height. Aware within a decade of generation, this could be on level with the soccer World Cup two down for Goldsmith. He takes a strike. What did J T Realmuto say after the game yesterday, I, he was describing the scene and what it felt like to be in the game and the intensity of that game just played in the World Series. And I think he said something like how could you possibly rather b in spring training playing grapefruit league games in this? He said anybody who wouldn't want to come here if you had the chance would be crazy telling Trey Turner said last night, greatest hit of my career. Nolan Arenado said last night, if you're a star, you need to play in the Worlds Baseball classic, what else can you say? Right. Just missing. So it's two and 12 Goldschmidt. Okay. Mhm. To, well, Carlos Vieira is coming the game for Cuba and kind of settled things down. He's got a nice little slider, nice little two seamer with the changeup to go off of it is an action pitch right here. It's gonna be your best vieira against America's first baseman. Full count. Three and two. Just give him a new nickname. He's like, he's like the hero. Every American needs. I didn't even realize it. I needed. He's a marvel hero. Look at him just doesn't giveaway pitches, doesn't give away at bats. That's the first base love to another first nation. I could kind of tell and a good kind of, you know, I think you're a guy who in your career , you wanted to be a good all around player. You wanted to be a good defensive first baseman. I think part of what you appreciate, appreciate about Paul Goldschmidt is the all around excellence of his game are Nodoz. One for two. Takes it, Lowe just in case you forget who he is he that elbow guard very brightly reminds you crowd getting whipped up again. Slider. Good one. Well, he's thrown some good ones in this inning. He's also throw some good two seamer in. Take a look at that tight slider a little dot Right there. That's a tight one when it's not tight. You kind of just just, it doesn't really spin. It's a little bit more on the white end. Those are tough two C to as a hitter because on the back end you see the tight spin, but on the front end. You don't see that tight spin. You don't see that little doc coming at you holding the ground foul. I also had never hit the slope. My goodness, got a hit the heater. Don't miss the fastball. The 22 lined to right field, that's going to be another hit for him heading to the corner. Keibert digs it out. Finally, Goldschmidt will score around the third in with a triple in the previous at bat. We talked about how good he is with his head down after contact on this side. That right here it was kind of a check swing, half, swing at bat gets that changeup a little fooled, but look at his head completely down. Oh, you can't teach it any better than that. Wow. Now we look at Mr Marvel himself. America's first baseman in Paul. He was rolling around those bags very well executed there all around. Just a good play by team usa good hitting. That's a really good baserunning man on third with two outs. And Mr coming back on America's first baseman needs a minute to catch his breath. Kyle Schwarber takes a strike. First strike is seen in this game, Schwarber walked and hit by a pitch. What a cool funky sought off swing and you end up at third base, but it's all the simplicity, right? Talk about being with your head down, making sure you make contact first and then you go to work I mean, you just can't, it is hard to do that because the first thing you want to do is a hitter is look up to see where the ball is at. Know he wants to make sure he gets through. The baseball mechanics have to stay clean even when you're fooled. That's why he's so consistent is going to start to take this personally. Already. Been ahead Martinez, I think said something to him to catcher , man. I got eyes, I got ice or I got ice. Which one do you have? Cold ice or pupils still? Just so it's amazing all the great and great hitter to, but they've gone after Trout to pitch to Goldschmidt pitched Tornado and it's like Cuban pitchers do not want to throw the ball over the plate, one strike in the game in three at bats. Cuba. They show postseason games. They have seen what he's done. Could be. They remember the one into the upper deck in San Diego. They don't show many games, but they show bits of pieces here and they're, and I guarantee you , they showed anything with the Phillies in the middle of all of it. Babe. Ruth best at bat home run ratio in postseason history. We'll see Randy Arozarena tomorrow night for team Mexico 3 to 4 and it gets away can come into score. Schwarber will take the walk. It's 7 to 1 United States. It all started with two outs and nobody on and they have two runs home and they're not how much you can do there if you're out there, Martinez try to do the best you can by blocking it, but don't have to drop down and walked and walked his way to home. Another visit here from the pitching coach, bullpen activity for Cuba and they're going to make the, so a new pitcher coming in 71 United States back right after this, the new pitcher for Cuba Ronald pitched against Panama in Pool a play and gave up four hits and four runs and had a hard time throwing strikes and does give you an idea of where Cuba is because they tried three already and nobody had an answer for this United States offense. Ronald Bolanos though guy that was picked up by the Padres free agency then traded over to Kansas City good sinker slider forcing curveball changeup has had some big league experience with Kansas City. He was traded a big trade friendship Cordero and that acquired Tim Hill to go to San Diego. He was a part of that trade. Will Smith faces him and a good slider for a strike and I think it's good points does have experienced against hitters like this. So for Cuba, just trying to find somebody who can get some outs sinker slider to pitch combo going to how long? 95 mile an hour fastball, one of their better arms out of the bullpen. That's a pretty good fastball right there. Can you put them away? 02 got to trust your catcher Will Smith to right field. Keibert makes the catch out number three but a two out rally and the United States scores a couple of runs out of it to Cardinals combined to make it 7 to 1 after his last inning. And Adam Wainwright exited to a very appreciative us dugout. Wainwright spoke about the importance for him pitching for this team 20 years after he was one of the last cuts for team USA the Olympic qualifying roster. There's the embrace with pitching coach Andy Pettitte Wainwright certainly gave the team what they needed tonight and the leadership as well spoke about how missing that team 20 years ago, changed him as a person and a player and now very much possibly putting team USA on the road to the final WBC takes a strike. The pitcher is Adam ST Louis teammate, Miles Mikolas another starter for the Cardinals two time all star 2018 and 2022 had a phenomenal year pulls that one sharply in the right field. That's going to be a hit for Yuan Moncada. Mookie Betts will play it back in leadoff double. We see that spinner hanging curveball got a little bit out in front, but look at his face, look at that front foot. How locked is that? How you hit breaking balls? If you are a little fooled, that front foot needs to stay locked like a hamer in there. So you have that balance to get through that baseball with your barrel and keeping it fair. A lot of times if that front foot collapses, then everything collapses on you on the backside , you see both teammates there and Tim Anderson and Moncada look no knock to the lineup for Cuban. I mean, you know, there's a lot of Cubans that decided not to play for team Cuba, a lot of good pitchers. A lot of we know in the big league, how important to Cuban players are in the big leagues. But right now they've got Moncada and got Roberts and they got to, if they want to do anything passed this inning, they gotta start. Now, they want to get a rally. It's going to start now, Robert foul. So now he's behind owing to, it's not the same. He has had so much success on the international stage, three teams, gold medals in the Olympics and baseball, the runner up spot and the world baseball classic. Tonnes of international wins. This is just not the same level of success came with Chapman and Cabrera at first base, Leonys Martin and centerfield, right? Really, really good talented ball players that made their ways to the big leagues. Good take by Luis Robert. Can you imagine if that, if those guys we're on this team that will be a little different. It's a lot of talent, a lot. Two to maybe one day. Randy Arozarena We will see him again tomorrow. He's had a, just a spectacular world baseball classic. He has totally embraced the country that he now calls on Mexico. He went strike three, Dave to Yandy Diaz point. Let's consider where Cuba ranked among all countries in the world in producing major league players that the start of 2022 4th ahead of Puerto Rico, ahead of Mexico who of course plays tomorrow night. So that just gives you a sense of the depth of talent in Cuba and how much of it is now playing in major league baseball? Almost 30% of the players on last year's opening day rosters. Born outside the United States, the baseline number despond took the curveball for a strike. Didn't like that call big chopper foul when I can speak, I would say on behalf of all of these players, there is nothing greater than in the future, putting on a jersey that represents Cuba. You know, I think the decision is a tough one even for the players that are playing. It's a respectable decision, but it's a decision that a lot of baseball players in the big leagues right now would not do. Oh, to got a piece but a lot to hand there there head very high , especially with the tournament that they played. I mean, they barely got past the first round and, and here we are now facing team usa one win away from going from going to the finals. Tough task struck him out that he died of sliders miles through some good one's in that at bat as you see that last won right there. Look how tight that is. You don't necessarily see the dot But it's tight enough for you to make you fish through a good one to Roberts through a good one to the spine in. That's his goal to pitch. You know, he was a guy in San Diego when I play within. That was fastball curveball, a big 12 6. He went to Japan had really good success but learn the slider. Now all of a sudden he's become a weapon, right? He's got four pitches that he can get you on. And a very consistent guy who give you a lot of innings, two outs runner at second and a big swing and a miss that pitch again. It's going to, it's that slider. It's his weapon as his go to whenever he gets in trouble, he feels he can throw the slider with any in any account missed with at that time, one and two, a lot of times he'll miss with that slider away and then he will Gil brush you in with the two seamer. He's got a really good two seamer now, a good feel for it. The slider has been the pitch this inning. Yeah. Foul ball that was a pitch to hit. I was with him. San Diego. We were in a mall. And I mean, he is, he is the greatest teammate ever. They caught a lizard man for a reason. Yeah. Heard that story and we had a lot of Betts going on that. He wouldn't, he wouldn't bite lizards head and he sure did. Boy, he was great. It was awesome. Got to say I've lost my money there and he is a guy that we're seeing more and more pitchers players go overseas. maybe don't have initial success in the big leagues. Use that time change your repertoire. Work on knew things comeback, better, ground ball base hit in the left field and they get the stop sign as Schwarber comes up throwing. That was interesting, Giancana with two outs running on contact and stopped, I would have sent them. I think you got a good runner, two outs had a good secondary right there. That's a score. You've got to test Schwarber's arm. He's not known to be very accurate. He's not known to have that strong arm. It's an opportunity waste that I would think if your team Cuba, I felt the same thing when you watch that play and you see where Schwarber got to the ball and where Moncada was at the moment, he scooped it up. I, I guess you can understand the decision to put a stop sign. But off the bat, I was sure that was going to be, I would test, I would think that the test and the test here is the accuracy of I need to make the third out at home. I can't have a run after a hit, be let down and stayed at third and stay at third. Hesitation from Moncada. There really was a hesitation. They're, but you got to play the odds right now and say, hey, look, this is the team that hasn't really shone that many hit hard hit balls. You get a hit like that with two outs. I would think you would send them. It's amazing seven hits. They really have hardly hit the ball hard all game, especially facing a tough right hander necklace, Ibanez up the middle on the ground. A base hit between Anderson and Toerner So Moncada has scored stops at second and Ib--ez gets the run bounded in. It's 7 to 2. Ib--ez got that two. Seamer wasn't hit so hard. It was just located in the right direction, the right spot. Toerner and Tim Anderson just couldn't do anything with that. Thats three hits in the inning now, since smiles Mikolas has taken over, Martinez comes up where, who knows one swing of the bat and game might feel a little different. It's really, has felt like an overmatch for a lot of this game , but things can change. Only one hit in the tournament for Martinez strike one not known for his power right now. He just needs to get a good pitch. Try to do too much. Now, took the slider fouled away. That was a very well located pitch right there. Good fastball. 94 miles an hour. Yeah, he knows it. He missed his pitch right there. Catcher out of my, we've seen some wild comebacks in this world's baseball classic. Whether Cuba is equipped to pull one off against this powerful team. I don't know but good opportunity hear to get closer, one to and he struck him out with the curveball. So Mikolas gets three strikeouts does give up three hits. Cuba gets a run midway through five and 72. This copyrighted telecast is presented by authority. A World baseball classic may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form. And the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without the express written consent were a few miles from South Peach here in Little Havana in Miami U S Cuba. Semifinals of this world's baseball classic, Pete Alonso stands in that got him at least a piece of the jersey. So Alonso gets hit by the pitch , reached base to start the bottom of the fifth will go down to J P Dave. I would say aside from trade Toerner Jerry Emmanuel was the most talked about person on team USA following last night because he was their at home plate as trade Toerner crossed after that epic home run. Certainly taking literally mark DeRosa Meccage about investing emotionally in the game. There's Jerry Manual right there. So I said when I saw Jerry today , I said, Jerry, how many text messages when you got back to, you're phone after the game? He smiled and said 130. That's great. I don't think I've ever seen a bench coach do that. I don't think so either. A guy who was given his life to the game has been around for so long, so many different roles in the game. It's fun to see the, look at that is what his manager said. We need to, we know how much wee care about this. Let's show everybody else how much wee care about this. He took it literally, Jeff mcbeal heading here for Tim Anderson. Mark DeRosa looks down his bench and goes, oh, there's a batting champion there. Why dont I send him up pension? I think it will be a base for a couple Moore runs here. Maybe you would see a guy like trade Toerner kind of. All right. You've had enough. Get a guy in there like Bobby Witt. United states' manager would like to use his whole roster tonight. Give everybody a chance, not just in pool play, but here in an elimination game with a big crowd. Semifinal is a chance to experience this three and oh to mcneil takes ball four, he's always going to give you a good at bat. Two more pitchers for Cuba and the bullpen, we know one thing about Bolanos is he struggles with command, good arm struggles and he got the third out in the fourth, but now he's hit a batter and walked a batter to start the fifth Trey Turner with another home run tonight. Takes it. Lowe Armando Johnson, the manager of Cuba's team trying to figure out how he's going to stick with Bolanos. 1 to 1. Okay. Okay. I would think if it's working, you've got to stick with the slider, right. If he throws another one here in a 11 count, he did that. He missed with it. Turner's new teammate, old teammate and nu teammate teammate again, Bryce Harper likely would have been a part of this team if he was healthy, I would have been another Phillies player. Unbelievable stacked 11 years. Diehl signed in December, play out the rest of his big league career in Philadelphia. Mhm. Slider Lowe three and one. He's by himself a fast ball here in this county. Mean, although we've seen a steady diet of sliders, probably the one pitch he's been able to throw strikes consistently. He's in jam here, got him to chase a fastball down. So now the account is full three and two. Team USA is certainly not rushing at bats with the seven to lead. They are grinding them out. I'm sure Ken Griffey appreciates that junior part of this USA coaching staff. Toerner a little flips shot into shallow right center. It's going to get down Alonso to third. He will stop there. Toerner has got another two hit and the bases are loaded with Mookie Betts coming up. Want to talk about a two strike approach straight. Toerner had his best right there. Understanding. He's got a guy that's a little erratic, gets a four seamer up in the zone, just fights it off one handed. Unbelievable. The handout coronation of Turner's Elite. He just showed it right there. Good hitters will spoil and good hitters will make you work and grind out at bats. That was a good hitter right there making you work and doing all the right things to get awarded. We thought it was going to be Bolanos against bats. But after a long delay, here comes pitching coach again and has been a guy to make the moves. So the manager not coming out to make the changes and yeah, we're going to get another one here. So Bellagio's is out knew pitcher coming in USA threatening already leading seven to after trade Toerner hit his grand slam last night. One of his first rewards was a hug from one of his favorite players, Ken Griffey Jr, the team, us, a hitting coach in the dugout and trade Toerner told me later that after growing up just an hour's drive away from this ballpark in Lake were Florida the only foul ball that he caught in all the years. He went two major league games growing up as a kid was hit by this man Jr, the Hall of Famer himself. And when I asked about that today, Ken smiled and said, Trey told me that it made me feel a little old, still looking good and still a guy who makes even the best players in the game. A little starstruck. You hit batting practice not too long ago here in this ballpark, hit one out, but the whole, the whole team was behind the cage to really encourage him bases loaded from Mookie Betts pitcher misses outside ball one. He was reluctant to get in there and Brian mccann had an impromptu old guy home run derby. Heliot What a spot for him. My drive caught at short. This is what yonder was talking about just a few days ago. The swing down and in, he's still got it, got the hats, the hats backwards. I just want to know how many kids hit with their hats backwards just because of JR I know I did many, many, many and when he hits one out, everybody for team usa went nuts. I remember after those home run derbies, I would asked my dad he takes to go hit and I would make sure I would where my my hat backwards trying to imitate him. Mike Trout takes a strike. Brian mccann hit three home runs in his home run derby round Rosa said, hey, we got guys that feel like they can still play right now and he wanted to throw a bullpen. He did throw a bullpen. So it to, he said he made mccann get down in the squad to catch his bullpen session and the next day, Brian's knees weren't that happy. That's great. Mike Trout loud contact tonight. But over three, he's been an outstanding hitter as you would expect in his career with bases loaded to pitch, strike three called. That's a good slider right there. What a moment for tracking out one of the best hitters in our game right now on a well painted slider, but he's no secret to success. Mexican Pacific League pitcher of the year in 2022. The guy has had pretty good success with a pretty good fast ball and a good slider that we are seeing right now, but he's not through it yet, but he's got Betts and Trout. Now he's got to get through Goldsmith team usa with the bases loaded and nobody out two down gets the high strike. Elian LeBeau just turned 34 2 days ago, had his birthday, one line drive base hit Alonso into score. Here comes Jeff mcneil to throw. Holm is late. He slides in safely 9 to 2. America's first baseman. It's a homered. His first at bat plays a little small ball the other way on a four seam fastball. How he lets this ball get deep? Oh, my goodness. Not trying to do too much right there. Just taking whatever gives them. That's two R B I S another look right here. He smells it to score from my friends. I got a run hard for my friends head dive, got the job done. Toerner went around the third. Now, Nolan Arnada who tripled in a run his last time up, got a pitch up and found it straight back. Mhm. That's going to miss two. Seamer right there going. And right there how much Noe can do team USA two in the first one in the second two in the third, two in the fourth now, two in the fifth. Mhm. That one got it. He got a hit on the hand. I think the umpires are going to check this ball. There was a swing with that. The first base umpire says no swing. So it's going to be a hit by pitch last see where it hits him right there, right on, right on the back hand and the knuckles, it's gonna hurt a little bit. I think he'll be fine though. Hope so. Are not of getting looked at. Yeah, and probably just, it's 9 to 2 doesn't look like he's feeling like he's really seriously the injured. We hope not, but I think you can read his lips and okay, he's ok. I'm fine. Bobby witt it is part of that is just a chance for Bobby to get in the game. Yeah, he's a little faster than Nolan. He's very fast. A lot faster than a lot of guys. They're going to take a look at it. Maybe Cuba is asking for a review, definitely hit him. You can't view you can't review the swing are no swing aspect of it. You can review whether it hit him or not, bases are loaded two runs in. And I think Mark DeRosa is wondering what exactly is taking so long. This should not take very long. No, the review was hit by the pitch. 41st base. Cuba will lose one of the challenges. Okay, Lance Barksdale, who is the crew chief in this world's baseball classic semifinal round and championship. So they did review whether it hit him. I mean, it was obvious that hit him. This game has gotten away from Cuba has and it's not like you can just put its not a spring training game where you can put your team two out there. You're going to get the same guys, you're going to get the same guys grinding out of bats. Give him professional at bats. You're Cuba, you still got to try to make pitches. Schwarber just hasn't seen anything to hit in this game. He's got to be a little fancy. He's been up three times. They've walked twice, hit him once and I think thats the second strike that he's seen a ball game. I think if you're shorter, you just got to stay patient as possible. Still go to work. Make sure you get a good pitch up in the zone for you to go on. Yeah, that's a good changeup. Talking to himself. You are kidding me. Translation, every hitter talks to themselves one to comebacker right to the pitcher and he will throw the first of four out. Number three. Team USA A adds on a couple of runs. They now leading 9 to 2.A moment of concern for team USA in the fifth as their star third baseman Nolan are not hit by a pitch. But Dave, I can say right now, the initial sense of things in the U S dugout is that this is not a serious situation, got him on a knuckle, but they believe that he's gonna be okay to continue playing. Should the US prevail in this game? And certainly they also wanted to get Bobby Witt Jr on to the field as well. Thank you JP. Strike one. Jeff MacNeil stays in, he's at second and Bobby Jr takes over for Arnada at third. That's really good news we hated. See Jose Altuve got hit by the pitch in last night's game against the United States and he's going to be out a while on the ground to short Toerner still in the game and he throws out ground ball right there. Turner not doing much with it routine. Shortstop, Mike Toerner for Miles Mikolas The job is to get through as many of these hitter's as possible. We talked about it early how Mark DeRosa, he wants to use those starters tonight. It will be very important and you know, we were talking about it earlier in the game said, hey , they expect this game to be, or they wanted to be a blowout, they can get them to and maybe won bullpen arm. They're sitting pretty then for the, the final championship game , everybody will be reset. Everybody would be fresh, ready to roll. And I think if, if you're usa kind of put yourself in a really good spot, right? Because then you're getting that off day tomorrow where Japan and Mexico are going to play. It's, it's game seven type field , they're gonna use everybody. They've got back to back is a lot harder. Having an off day. That's a good point. The challenge of playing tonight after you had to fight so hard last night, real challenge. But if you get through tonight, then u actually swing the pendulum in your direction, charge again from third to first time, speed or the ball will find you. If you're Bobby Witt point you're making though that this semifinal game tonight tomorrow Mexico plays Japan and then the very next night is our championship game Tuesday here in Miami seven p.m. Eastern time. And if team USA can finish this off, we expect they will. But if they can, they do get that extra day just to freshen everybody up. Japan. Japan's had like, it feels like they've had four or five days off. Very hard to play like that. You're facing a games seven style, all of a sudden you played in five days where all these teams have played that kept that routine of playing games. It's very hard. No. And they have to do it that way because those pool play games and then the quarterfinals were in Tokyo. So you've got to give the players a chance to fly along way, get acclimated, but you're right swing and a Miss by Santos curveball right there. So Tokyo time they played Thursday and then after the game flew here, so they've had the whole weekend, get ready, get ready for tomorrow. Okay. Center field, Mike Trout is there and he catches it two outs. JP Dave, we cannot wait here in North America to see Rocchi Sasaki 17 consecutive perfect innings thrown at last season. It's not clear exactly when he might at some point pitch in major league baseball. But I can tell you this, Dave, there are those who saw Otani at this stage of Catanese career, Darvish at the same stage and say that Rocchi Sasaki possesses as good or is definitely one of the most highly anticipated young players in the history of that baseball crazy country. He was asked today about coming to the big leagues and said he doesn't know when that will be Shohei Ohtani told him you'll know you'll know when it's time one. We'll see Otani on the field. I don't believe we're gonna see Otani pitching foul ball. Chance here usa USA somebody on the field they got it under control. Chance continue look, it's understandable. This is a unique scenario tonight and it's an opportunity for a lot of people who are very proud of their heritage where they come from to express how they feel about the government that this particular Cuban team represents. And you can understand that they want to take that opportunity. Certainly a tough situation for , for every player, not, not just the Cuban players, but even the American players, a lot of uncertainty getting up to this game. What would it be like? What would the seem be like inside the ballpark in out? And it's been spirited, it's been complicated. But for the most part tonight, we've had the ballgame. Let's go usa mhm All right back to baseball Moncada against Michael is with two down and you know, two count problem is, is the more this game gets out of hand, more the fans get agitated right? Then it becomes more, more than just baseball. You know, I talk about a 32 ball game then its baseball, it's a 92 ball game than a little different to left field. Schwarber will make the catch so I hit but no runs, midway threw six. It's 9 to 2. Cuba brings the catcher in the game. Lorenzo Quintana takes over behind the plate. United States leading this game 9 to 2. And even though Cuba score the first run of the game and put some pressure on Adam right in the first inning since Goldschmidt swinging in the bottom of that inning. This USA team has been in control. Will Smith pulls the first pitch foul. I am excited for tomorrow's game. Yeah, me too. Mexico, Mexico, Japan. That's going to be a lot of fun. Mexico has talented big league experience. Players, Will Smith down the left field line, a fair ball and will has himself a leadoff double. They have pitching depth and oh yeah, they have Randy Arozarena They got a chance against anybody. JP Dave the win for Mexico to reach this semifinal game. Their win over Puerto Rico was described to me after the game by multiple members of the Mexican delegation as being perhaps most crucially team sports win in Mexican sports history for men's sports in that country. Just an extraordinary win and an extraordinary moment for Mexico to build momentum for baseball there. Of course, a month from now we're going to see a regular season major league series in Mexico City for the very first time. We've had big league games in Mexico before but never in Mexico City. The Padres in the chants are going to play at the end of April. There were going to be there, we're going to be there. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I can't wait for that. I wanna know to Pete Alonso on the ground foul Alonso has driven in more runs since the start of 2019 than any player in baseball, anybody, the Mets will need him more than ever. This year. Rugged division. You've got to wrestle with super talented Atlanta team. Philadelphia went to the World Series last year. The Phillies added Trey Turner to that team among others. I can't wait, watch the whole year. The national league, especially East and West. It's incredible how many great players in those divisions, ground ball to short goes back to second and Alonso's thrown out. I was just a good player right there. Going to his left fielding that ball with one hand straight to it. Takes a little banana peel to it. It's a great throw, good player as well gonna So now Jeff macneil walked in his first at bat of the game, comes up for the second time. Speaking of Matz another one between Alonso and mcneil and then that's on other teams in the world, a baseball classic. They've been extremely well represented to, we were talking about tomorrow night in Mexico and Japan and we get to see Rob Sasaki and Shohei Ohtani will be hitting. There were some indications Shohei is not going to start either tomorrow or the championship game, but maybe if they get to that championship round, maybe he could pitch, say the ninth inning, maybe I would sign up for seeing that. Count me in. No, no, I've had people ask me what's the thing that really stands out when you, when you see show and I remember playing against him. You know, you can talk about obviously the arm and we can talk about the hitting, but the baserunning the speed of how big this guy hes 65 to 42 45 he runs like, you know, a leadoff guy like Trey Turner and a quiet Trey Turner. Now, there's guys like Mike Trout. When you're, when you hear them coming down the line at first base, it's the truck coming like you here. Yeah, that's Mike truck coming. But with Shohei, he just, you don't even notice when he passes through the back. All you feel is the wind all of a sudden you see show and say, oh my goodness, that was quiet. Like you can tell when a bat throw is coming. You know, you don't have that much time. You have to get out there with Shohei, he's on you and three or four steps, he's on you. It's impressive. Three and oh, Jeff mcneil another ball walked both times and for Jeff who has had a chance to play the last couple of games, I'm sure he would like to see a pitch he could swing at , but take the walk, take the walks. Now, Trey Turner. Toerner having another big game two for three, including his third home run of this world's baseball classic good slider, another one, the Cuban pitchers. And now even after that swing, we are going to get a meeting, Cuban pitchers have had two throw. What, 140 pitches are there? About's in this game one out in the sixth inning. Yeah, they've, they've worked, got to give credit though to team USA in there offense. Right. They make it, make it very tough. We'll see a couple of Turner's right there. That's cool. Yeah, the U S Jersey Jersey. Toerner to left field. And yes, and it's gone. Toerner trade. We talked about being America's first baseman Mr Turner's America's shortstop. He is locked. What a swing. Talk about signature moments last night. He's just had another one. Nobody's hit more home runs in a world baseball classic than that guy. All the muscle on team USA. It's Trey Turner. He's making this ballpark look tiny his fourth home run of the tournament. His second of the night, his third in the last two nights this time, a three run homer and Bennet shaking his head. Unbelievable. Gets a four seamer right down the middle o my goodness. Talk about extension. Lower half. Wow. America's shortstop right there. He's proud and he knocks the Cuban pitcher out of the game. Trey Turner show in Miami rolls on three more hits, two more home runs. Frank is takes over now for Cuba team USA just taking it too. Cuba here tonight. It's 12 to 2 were in the sixth inning. Now call one to Mookie Betts man. Oh, man. Oh man. I think if you're the Rosenau for the first time you can breathe in the whole tournament. He was telling us that today. Look, they jumped out a head against Canada and won that game handily. But other than that, he really has had a grind out every inning. That's the first time I can see him by his gum. It's just been like Mookie Betts has another, a hit that will be his third of the game and he's going to just stopped at first absolute clinic to the USA hitters overmatched tonight. You can tell how good they are, especially when they get good pitches to hit when they get mistakes. More than not these usa hitters , man, they'll make you pay one. Let's go down to JP some good news, Dave for team USA X rays on Nolan are Nodoz right hand negative. He should be able to play in the final. Should the US prevail tonight. We figured it, you, you've got that report initially, but now it's confirmed. I just want to know if he was able to go into that trash can and get the batting plus J P J P. That's the only thing. That's the only thing I care about right now. Want to know the drought fouls it away. Sources report exclusively to our broadcast that I have not yet. Nor do I intend to go into the garbage can. Oh, yeah. Now you've waited so long JP, you're going to have to dig through some small matter of Gatorade cups and other other things one finds in a baseball dugout but, but there is a trade Toerner home run, batting gloves in there. It's in there with every swing. It's more coveted. I did hear by the way, the fans behind the dugout chanting M V P mvps there already. Betts flying around. Third Trout is going to stop at second. Mookie will score. Oh my goodness. What a clinic, what a clinic. And that's going to the last moment in the game from Mike Trout just take it down very tight and then just go watch Mookie run how much team Cuba can do right now. How cool is that? Those Mike Trout giving a high 52 Griffey and then right behind them. Mookie Betts Two of the greats to Trout and Griffey. Truly, two of the all time greats. And he gets to feel like he was a part of it tonight. A team USA is just taking it too. Cuba, Cedric Mullins takes over for Trout as the pinch runner, but Trout has not had a hit. Goldschmidt has had plenty of hits, but not this time pops it up behind second for out. Number two, there's always that one guy, you got 13 hits and you're looking at the box score and the only one with no hits. Hold on a second too good for this one of the best players in the game. I'm going to get on the board here. He's so good. He tucked his batting gloves back in his back pocket. I was kinda eyeballing him just in case he threw those away. Maybe JP wouldnt have to dig so deep if he at the top. A souvenir. You see him with a great Michel Jung right there. Mission accomplished for tonight. I would think if you're Mike Trout, you get an off day in Miami tomorrow past Alito's all the stuff that you've introduced. Two. Me on an off day. That's our best. It's a race as no, two and one, man. I'm proud came in here. Now. You're speaking Spanish Aceto. Yeah, that's awesome. They're having fun. Yeah, they are. You can just tell to, right. Like thinking the other day they were hitting back, they were taking batting practice there just, you know, just doing their thing, getting ready. Understood the Mishin and the message from Mark DeRosa. Hey, we can't let down. We got to come to plate today to the backstop. It's easy to forget you watch him play like this. They a great Britain pushed him. They lost to Mexico and it was, they got blown out by Mexico in pool play. They can't come here in Venezuela had the lead late against him. Colombia in the game that they have to win to get here. Colombia. I mean, they were ahead and it was a one run win. Yeah, I think today tonight's that day where they're going to have an off day. They can kind of okay. Breathe a little bit three to and they're pretty much set. I mean, they're going to have all their horses available talked about, you know, they have a stallions out there in the bullpen, all of them closer style mentalities going to have a fresh off day and hopefully today nobody's gonna use, get used. That is no swing. So it's 12, 4 you give up in that magnitude of two days off and, oh my goodness, Dave, the big question now will be who starts that game for team USA? And the moment at least it appears to be a decision between the right handed Merrill Kelly and the left handed Kyle Freeland. I returned, remembering Kyle Freedland starting in a game 1, 63 2 decide the NL West as a very young pitcher. This is a, a winner. Take all game of an entirely different magnitude. There's Kyle Rockies starting pitcher Denver's finest right there. One of the very few pitchers who just, he takes on Coors field and he doesn't blink two on two out for Schwarber hometown hero or Denver's hometown hero right there. Talk to ask them today about how much fun he's having. He says, are you kidding me? This is amazing. Popped up shallow left. Santos will catch it and a collision. Well, Yoan Moncada, good newses he got out, came off the field, walking on his own power, he was going back and the left field of Santos coming in, maybe knocked the wind out. Possibly. I think he was down for a while. I do think he's probably all right. But it's easy for me to say. Now his white sox teammates, Luis Robert first pitch swinging broken bat grounder and Bobby Witte throws him out. Cedric Mullins who pinch ran for Mike Trout, really good player. And again, you're on a team with Mookie Betts and Mike Trout. Cedric Mullins hasn't had a chance to showcase himself in the world baseball classic too often, but he takes over in center field quick outs gift for team USA because now they're focuses the championship game, Alfredo despaigne. You could this be his final world baseball classic. Get back. You might get another one tonight. You might get another one way his career has gone. I wouldn't put it past him. Keep on playing two down. One thing that's working right now is that two Seamer from Nicholas? He's been around for long time. Lots of games in Cuba in Japan where he turned into a big star. More than 2000 career. It's in the Mexican League Alfredo despaigne all time leader in the home runs hit in a world baseball classic history. Although Trey Turner's trying to close that gap, there's a lot of hits the little flair right field and it's going to fall. Mookie Betts but he was thinking he had a chance to get there, but a two out single, good thing for Michael is, is there swinging on the first pitch is right. It's good thing. So you want to keep swinging on the first pitch, you just keep throwing them. And that was a thinker right there. But the two seamer is definitely working for Mikolas He's always had it. That's one of the things too that he learned, I think in Japan, he was more of a four seamer guy up in the zone with that good curveball in San Diego. Well, he came back and it was two seamer. It was four seamer, it was cutter. It was that slider. Just a really, really, really good picture for the ST Louis Cardinals on one to and Ib--ez who knocked in the second run for Cuba just there. It's on to thing is the delivery to, he's got a little deception , that little pause right at the last second. Just fools hitters a little bit high with the fastball. I just love the way he just gets the ball right back on the mound. Let's go. That's not much thought into it. She's the sign that goes with the curveball. Ib--ez credit. Just got a piece of it. He is one for three. He's got an R B I but it's hit the ball hard. He had not had a plate appearance in his word baseball classic until tonight time lunging at that one slider and it will be Paul Goldsmith mcneil. You've got to defer to America's first baseman. 13 to 2 as we go to the bottom of the seventh inning, the winner advances to the championship game and that is going to be the United States barring something totally unforseen. Jose Rodriguez just got it out in pool play against Italy. Yeah. And Yoan Moncada does come out of the game. Luis Patio takes over at third. Will Smith first pitch swinging. We'll see if give the United states' credit. It's taking some discipline in a game like this. They have been very patient and have not changed there approach. Even as the score has changed, you wonder whether maybe now a little more aggressive approach might pop up. Speaking of pop ups, what a play behind the back over the shoulder catch. It's a little nod there from ball boy right field, a little basket catcher right here. That stuff right there. Heads up what I found. That's nice right there warrants our high five. So now peat Alonso USA scored in every inning tonight. It's been a clinic. Absolutely, I think can feel good. I mean, his tournament really had not been going well and he's had good at bats tonight. Only the one hit he's been hit by a pitch. He has driven in the run, he hit a ball hard to center field. Looks like himself good. Changing right there by Jose Rodriguez. Mhm. Mhm. No. Swing a bouncer toward the middle. Ib--ez two down that kind. What do you think about Japan Mexico? I know we're excited for. Do you have a lean tomorrow night's semifinal? Number two? It's very tough to say. I think one thing about Japan is if you're going to beat Japan, you've got to play clean baseball, Sousa team in Japan. That's just very well educated when it comes to playing. You clean baseball, discipline baseball. I mean, it's a, it's a team that they'll come out, they'll, but they'll move the runners over, they'll, they'll run the bases correctly when you're dealing with a team like Mexico who's got all the momentum in the world really impressive the other night, Jeff MacNeil grounds out the United states' doesn't score. We go to the eighth in opposition two Shohei Ohtani I'll b really curious to see Dave if we also get to see Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the other great Japanese pitching star who has yet to arrive to MLB. He could be, they're second out of the pen tomorrow. Japan's got all the big arms kind of lineup. Hey, look what happened United States decided, let's let Mookie play on the infield. Jeff macneil goes out to play right field. Mookie comes in Arozarena, definitely one, the profiles pick every picture up on the video board that won that little style shot. Their, he doesn't take the sunglasses. That's awesome. You gotta be confident guy to pull that off. He's definitely that he said he is catch the other night was better than any home run. He ever had better than all his World Series home runs. It's amazing. Tell you how important this tournament is Chopper and a Toerner one away. We were talking about this earlier Mexico kind of took it to the United States and Kuhl play. Not literally in the Kuhl in Phoenix, but Kuhl play. It was a blowout fans, they were feeling it. We were impressed the other night because we figured there'd be a ton of Mexican fans in Phoenix in Miami. We were less sure they were here and loud, a big numbers foul ball. It's going to be, it's going to be a fun game tomorrow, even this game right now, 13 22, but fans have stayed, they all want to see a team usa finish this off. No thing is you look at Mexico and you say, ok, you know, they , they've, they've farewell there, they've hit good pitching , you know, they've pitched well , they've played good defense. These are pretty two evenly plays teams for me. The only thing that worries me about Japan is the amount of off days. That's, that's the only thing you give, you give hitters five days off and that's very, very hard. They had the advantage in a lot of ways, I think coming into this tournament because unlike almost every other team, Japan got together early, they've been working out for weeks as a group together, maybe not every single players, but most players. And I think that shows up in those early rounds. So they were just ready to go right from the start. And now whether the layoff bothers him, we'll see Mookie Betts a nice play by Mookie Shohei Ohtani night, seeing pitching inning. We'll see if they can get to the championship game. We're going to see him do that in the one game that he threw a pitch, 102 and hit a pitch, 105 , same game playing literally baseball, man. Sometimes it looks like it. I know we'll talk a lot about him but I feel like we don't talk enough about him. We talk a lot about him but what we're seeing, well, I don't think we'll ever see again. Babe Ruth did not do what Shohei Ohtani is doing. He didn't, he did it at different times how he was a great pitcher, totally different error obviously. But even accounting for that, he was a great pitcher and then he was a great hitter. He never to the degree that Otani does. It not even close was both at the same time. 1 to 2, Dave. I would also say this, I am still checking this info but I don't believe the Bambino had 3.7 million followers on Instagram or through 100 miles an hour. It's a whole new world about that guy. He gets to see him everyday. Does Shohei post some good stuff on Instagram? Yeah, he does. Yeah, he's, he's, he's good. Okay. Keeper takes a ball from Myles Mikolas We saw a glimpse of Brady Singer starting to warm up. This will be it for Mikolas I think for the Roses game plan, it worked to perfection. Got to feel very pleased with Mikolas and he gets down for a base hit. So the ninth place hitter Keibert has his third hit of the game with a very nice game for him. Discussion about whether we see Andy Pettitte make a mound visit or not. Looks like he is not coming out. So Miles Michael has 70 pitches thrown, going to try to get through Santos Way. Just a point on Mookie Betts because we saw Mookie move to second base and he's already made a play here in this half inning. Mark DeRosa did talk about hoping again. Mookie a chance to play at, at second base in pool play. He's going to have to do that, especially with the injury to Gavin Lux on the dodgers'. He's going to have to do that in the regular season. He wanted to get him some work but said, well after we lost that Mexico game, we were just fighting for our lives. We just kind of had to throw out the best team we could and not worry about that. I'm sure the US A manager feels good about a chance to at least get him in the game. There, had to play. We're making a tour and he was taking grandma's at second base. I know he was a also doing his flyball stuff but his outfield work. But yeah, he was certainly doing his early work at second base during all the knee drills during every thing that he needs to do and everything this guy does just unbelievable and play basketball, bold ball, three perfect scores and Mookie movie can do it all. He's not as good as a color commentator as you are though. Miles Michael a very unhappy with that pitch. I wonder if he likes Aceto for, if he makes Aceto as good as we do, I can drink it. You can make it. I didn't have taught me enough about Miami culture that when I had some today in the morning and it didn't have the phone. Oh, you knew, I knew that's not , that's just not up to par. Got to get the sugar, got to get to the first drop and you got to start. That's how you get a little missing that today. Up the middle big hop. Toerner makes the play. Mikolas a great job. Four innings. Just the one run and we go to the bottom of the 8th, 13, 2 to let's talk about America's shortstop in Trea Turner, what he's done in two days and last night it was a grand slam tonight, it was traded abou last night, 103 miles an hour, second inning, 108 6 innings. 102 red white and boom, Mr Trey Turner has come to play. No Statcast has personality. It's pretty good right there, bad. We got some of the AI mixed with Statcast and we're going to get a sense of humor from Statcast in 2023 Trey Turner at the plate. Here he has learned how to pull the ball. I think when he was with Washington, he was more of a gap to gap hitter. As he's gotten older, he's got to no, his swing a little better to know his path, really figured out how Geiser were attacking him because a lot of times the go to play was you gotta throw him in and he certainly has, has made the adjustment. It's possible. He's approaching the all time record for most home runs hit in a single world baseball classic. It's possible he has sacrificed a little bit of the batting average to get some more of that power. Remember talking to him in the off season, he said one of the biggest goals, what was to score and have 100 R B I s and you know, he was able to do that this year. That was a big goal of his will be a guy who can score a lot of runs will be a guy who can drive them in two 100 100 play really good shortstop. U can score and drive. But that, that precision at shortstop is so important. Got to be consistent, got to play every day. He suddenly has done that. Thank you. Toerner at the plate. His old teammate on deck. Yes, that straight three. He's human. He's still America's shortstop like that. He's still Americans shortstop. Sure is. Here's Mookie I don't wanna like about, you know, team USA though. It has, they have so many names but they really have gel right there. Everybody kind of, you know, theno their role communication has been so good for them the whole time and it starts with there leader and obviously Mike Trout. But you can just tell there there is a mission that Mishin needs to be completed. Fouled away by Mookie It was Brady Singer now it's Aaron Loup Aaron Loup alongside rags. We go that action. People on the field back to the Aaron Loup story though. Face him in San Diego get hit by a pitch. Aaron Loup 92 mile an hour fastball submarine coming up my hands, breaks my hand. A year later, I face him again. First pitch hits me in the back saying, oh my goodness, you can't, you can't do this to me. I face him a year later after that hit me again. I finally had enough one. I asked, hey, man, what's going on? He says, hey, I just don't want to face you because I feel like when I C U, I'm just going to hit you and it's, it's just the worst thing that can happen. But he knew what he has done in the history of it. But after that I felt like he was hitting the on purpose. What's going on here? And he just told me I had with you, man, when you're hitting. So not much fun, did you maybe suggest like, ok, have the, just bounce him in the dirt? Just walk me, just throw it to the other batter's box, lefty anything. He ended up, he ended up walking me though. Last time we faced each other, he was in Toronto and he ended up walking me. But yeah, it was, it was great. All right. Well, we still can't get back two baseball here. We would like to maybe we'll see Aaron Loup in the ninth inning. Try to finish this one out. Mookie Betts to center field. Not quite two down, Dave Righetti. We saw him in the bullpen alongside your pal, Aaron Loup and Mark DeRosa is making us laugh the other day because they've, they've been grinding out coaches meetings, game plan meetings, staying up late at night, one of the all time, great pitching coaches and so many years' alongside Bruce Bochy for all three of those giants world series wins. Cedric Mullins strikes one out toward the gap into right center and it is. How about that? Zero might have called it a moment. He will never forget Cedric Melancon first pitch, swinging a first pitch homer. Look at Mookie He's excited. I'm sure zero is extremely excited for him. He's been trying to get him in there for a while. Now, look at that face. Look at that smile. Really cool. That's cool. He's had two hits. He had a triple and a home run in the world's baseball classic catcher. Oh, look at that. Ready to swing, swinging right there. How about kept going? Wow. Impressive. Look at the road o he likes it ground ball to second out. Number three, we got a really cool moment there for Cedric Mullins. His first baseball classic home run away from making it back to back championships. Still have to finish this one out, but they're going to and one of yonder Alonso, close personal friends. Aaron Loup takes submariner very tough and right handers but extremely difficult on lefties. Luis Mateo, his first at bat first pitch swinging ground ball to first first out. He'll get a lot of those, a lot of groundballs. Higashioka gets a chance to get in the game. He's the third catcher for team USA good player, good catcher. But when you are behind JT Realmuto and Will Smith, there's a strike tough to come up with inning's for Higashioka is Luis Robert His final world baseball classic at bat here he's buying in the count to was telling a story about Mark DeRosa and Dave Righetti and being a manager for the first time. And in these late night meetings , looking over to rags when they were talking through scenarios over and over again. He says he's done it a bunch of times. What would, what would do here like his guiding principle. So it's not a bad question to ask. He doesn't have the all stars a 462 games, a different challenge. Managing this team still low, two hard hit up the middle base in. That's a rocket right there. So Luis Robert has his second hit of the game. Yeah, I think everybody, we'll take tonight and relax. Take a deep breath as, as you said, but then tomorrow they'll be right back at it. Game planning for the championship game. These coaches will Spanier on the ground to short. This could do it. There's one and it is a double play and a dominant win for USA against Cuba 14 to 2. The final score and the United States team one win away from a second consecutive World baseball Classic championship. They don't play on Tuesday and only one piece of info left to find out tomorrow night, Mexico Japan will play for the final spot in that championship game. 14 runs on 14 hits absolute domination. They scored in every inning and the seventh Mookie with three hits Trout with a hit with two. But America's shortstop Trea Turner put on an absolute display. A show four R B I S three hits solid defense, your team usa you're feeling very, very good about yourself heading into the finals. That was a statement win, big smile for the manager all around dominant performance. And so the United states' team is into the championship game. It was a seen here for lots of different reasons in a lot of different ways and the USA handled it beautifully. Paul Goldschmidt, Toerner and company with a dominant 14 to 2 victory are game tomorrow seven , Eastern Mexico and Japan in the semi's for Yonder Alonso and our crew Dave Fleming saying goodnight from Miami, thanks for watching this presentation of the World Baseball Classic.
