[Applause] [Music] [Applause] welcome everybody to another production from urban hillbilly video I'm Brad Gutner and if you're a fan of urban hillbilly video that you know what to expect but for those of you who are watching these productions for the first time I suggest you get ready to hang on carnage Fest is exactly that and it will include footage of the likes of which you've never seen before including a lot of incidents which you've never seen before some of them the most violent and drag racing history but believe me when I tell you that the stuff you're about to see did not come easily for the urban hillbilly video crew as a matter of fact you'll be watching clips over seven full seasons of drag racing from events all over the country dozens and dozens of racetracks thousands and thousands of cars and believe me every single one of the incidents you're about to witness are some of the most hair-raising ever as a matter of fact our very first segment will include some of the most outrageous incidents ever captured by the urban hillbilly videographers including this opening incident from one of our favorite tracks George Ray's hot rod Wildcat drag strip in Paragould Arkansas [Applause] hey we does he fries [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh extravaganza in 2004 [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] rabens nostalgia ProStreet gremlin at the NMC a World Finals in 2003 [Music] [Applause] Bryan Robbins at the wheel of Keith England's old score for a Filipino Street masters in Bradenton Florida in 2005 [Applause] when driveway view of cars attack those are get it asked always a street machine Nationals 2004 hurry up and says goodbye to his collector's edition Camaro right way in 2004 oh very good there gang well I'm glad you're getting it now I was are still voted popping the world out there Oh Tandy oh you get a pretty good hair hang glider Jaime mouth and they would you're still rolling onto the wall down there oh hey and well online in 2005 you [Music] [Music] and all right crashes are certainly the worst possible scenario in drag racing and actually there's a lot of bad situations including wheel stance let's face it nobody's steering the car when the front hands five feet in the air but it's a little bit better than being on your head let's face it when you're upside down not only are you not steering the car you're not touching the brakes either or if you are it isn't helping [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Oh spring Buddhism 2005 Evansville [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] really the faraway recyclerview shrivel a nitrous oxide injected pro-bono fighter Ozark International Raceway oh boy alkaloids are not easy brave Oliver and if they rotted through harm later once worth going right there oh wow right any night and from Bradenton Florida in 2006 Oh [Music] Oh despite the virtual total destruction of the race car go it was back at the track the next day watching the action Jim Wyatt of the far away and against mark Elliott's 1937 Chevy business dealer from Wichita Kansas summer Nationals in 2002 [Applause] [Applause] and in the final round of the same Wichita Kansas event in 2002 against GM wines of the Far Lane Kansas racin cherry yobics well most spectacular Francis over gone ah incredibly human survived this record surprisingly minimal injuries [Music] [Music] [Music] so what is the little town of Ozark Missouri have to do with drag racing well only a few miles up the road is what used to be Springfield Ozark drag way which opened in 1962 a full-length quarter-mile drag strip with a wicked left turn at the end that eventually took the lives of several prominent racers including one of Missouri's most promising Top Fuel entries Luke Engle OC and his Missouri missile but Ozark Missouri is also the home of Phil Scott's garage a magnificent place that features all kinds of muscle cars and if you look closely enough real-life top fuel dragster and if you look past the top fuel dragster you'll see what is now Missouri's most promising Top Fuel driver the one the only Scott Palmer who doubles as a Doris Lambert driver with a supercharger on anything you drive anymore all right I'm going to ask you who do you like better top fuel car or the pro modified I like the top fuel car just for the speed but as far as actually driving one I'm a dork argh I just because there's more to do or is there as much to do in this car in the Top Fuel er there's not as much to do it's a lot faster so alcohol funny car is where I came from true and that's a lot to do an awful lot of eight mile event over here in Ralph country and do it the left arms what right exactly hopefully a three second ride this year in that Pro Mod or it won't be in the hunt so as a matter of fact what are your plans with the pro modified going on Pro Mod will run some [ __ ] out here in Ozark I was Ark international on you know Tulsa will run off to the Midwest whenever we're off but the main focus is top fuel car second focus and that will be almost every other week every weekend we're off from the top fuel car will actually run the pro mod well your background is indoor Slammers although you did actually start out in the pro ranks with a supercharged methanol burning funny car how did you go from the blown alcohol funny car straight to a top fuel car five years ago well actually I started off indoor cars I started off indoor cars and actually you know back then Pro mods were popular but there wasn't really a class in NHRA with the NHRA races locally you know closer to me to beacon st. Louis and Memphis we went to an alcohol funny car actually because basically Stidham Brothers work every month I grew up watching them so I wanted to know earthing on my on my street car and whenever I did that we went and ran out called funny car for about five years and then I decided it's time to step up or or as a conscious decision to spend every time in my head but I'm sure I did well the fact that you campaign simultaneously a Top Fuel karna Pro modified is something that nobody else on the planet could claim even if they had the right of mind to do so so why in the world would you simultaneously operate two completely different works I just prisons I'm not right that's proof right there well speaking of not right let's discuss a couple of rather entertaining rides that you had right here at Springfield Missouri at Ozark International dragway what happened and why well I put the Pro Mod together actually a couple years ago for the our big street machine Nationals out here those are international and it was all 100% my fault self-inflicted and I went out there actually to run the thing to the 330 get the feel of it hadn't run the car at all I put on my flash drive three blow for competition I was on 570s at the time and I put it directly in my Pro Mod and I tell you I really wasn't thinking those test launches no bird outs just let's go make a well no test launches just revved it up to 6,000 rpms and slid my foot off the clutch and and what I actually did was the door car had Linko pounds of pressure J and whenever I push second gear which I wasn't planning on going much further than that I it was having trouble popping out of gear and I was okay till the second round I won the first round doing that ran like 441 or something shutting off at three at the 300 foot mark so when I raced Jim wins he's a really good buddy of mine who you know works on our top fuel car well you're racing your buddy at that point I don't think it probably dawned on you that mr. Waynes has shall we say a reputation for being in the other way yeah if you race him he usually wins or you crash one or the other but anyway it was Jim and I decided I would go ahead and run it through and just hold the second gear button he's quite a bit it was both different other people involved pretty simple so you take your hand off that second gear buttons for the shoes then it pops out it pops out and then you have to reach back down to put it back in gear there for you as the truth and it's daylight so when I totally hitting off the second gear button about pant racket down shifting in the first motors like that it because there's not the left of the motor or the power to go along I tell you what the car that the car that I crashed that night is actually a car so and you have a buffoon took it out of primer I figured that was a bad luck point but now you pointed out that it was actually gem liens fault there you go had nothing to do with this guy I mean after all he's obviously a probably runs the top field registry on a pro modified right he can't do anything wrong no he stole the pride of Ozark Missouri and like I said there's only one cool car left in the state so pin your hopes on him Oh [Music] [Music] Oh golfers fall on the gun [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] only [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] William Selma wine any longer and he'll pitch is down there [Music] in the world of pro modify there are fans of the supercharged machines and fans of the nitrous-oxide machines right I'll never ever let out the turbos including one in particular in the central Midwest very few can compete so go to church Chevy power of Jim lands that I might add is a Jim winds creation is there anything on this car you didn't do we pretty much built everything except the steering wheel now what the turbocharger on this thing has always been a single big one big enough all right let's forget about the car itself for a minute and talk about the I want to call it a curse but the Jim winds situation you have a tendency to be in the other lane during some relatively spectacular rides does it have anything to do with you do you think no I think Erin if they're scared to the small-block I think well I will point out that on rare occasions Jim weigh-ins ended up being the curse I mean there was at least one time where you were on a single run there wasn't anybody in the other lane to be affected and you ended up tap in the wall yeah we were kind of lined up out of the groove [Music] we were frequent for pretty exciting around yeah well hidden crash we decide to all just tag the wall exactly and I do want to point out that you were in the other Wayne in the infamous situation and again I want to call it a curse of Scott Palmer with his Corvette what did that look like from your end if it looked like anything he was out on us about a half a car about 3:30 then he just disappeared I thought he'd just smoke the tires or got loose and he just disappeared I didn't you know thinking thing about it then we got down into the track and I got out of the car and I seen smoke where his car was off the track so I ran all the way to his car and he went over one time just one time just one time does it occur to you that chances are pretty good that somebody against you is going to have something ridiculous happen to him yeah seems to be the curstyn everybody's kind of got that in the back of their mind now with this car the way it is now obviously I know you want to go after some of the American drag racing league titles as well as the little bigger outlaw stuff how quick in this car go what what kind of number you execute before guys and maybe some low 22 hike into maple and say it being small-block Chevrolet in the first sentence the local tracks you kind of can't go with the turbo real versatile blower for the nitrous we can kind of get down the tracks and not tear the stuff up as much as some of the blower guys do well that's the kind of performance that he's going to need next year but let's face it he's doing with a whole lot less cubic inches than the rest of the guys out there and it's the only one of the small-block Chevrolet that's competitive in the outlaw wars you got money put it on wins especially if you're not the guy in the other way I went away the wheel came off of the car amber [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] one in the North right this is going to be our [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] mom [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh okay crashes are one thing getting upside-down is a whole nother world but the absolute worst possible scenario for any racer at any track is fire everybody knows it but not everybody is prepared to accept it in fact while most racers will Bank everything they have on a good track safety crew a lot of times the ability to put the fire out quickly lies solely with the racer sometimes it works sometimes it has the worst possible ending we in Georgia 2004 [Applause] [Music] despite the incredible damage done in the fire believe it or not the M&M transmission scheme federal was rebuilt and competed again we have Thompson's turbocharged American Street nationals in Orlando Florida and 2004 [Music] and out of the cars the other Lakers right on the plane Terry Murphy at Kansas City International Raceway in 2002 before he ever got to the waterboxx Canadian Sanchez in Atlanta what do we do in that did a lot of smoke coming out from under that car as there's no fire neither move it let's he'll gain also to go to rile that guard lock it up and again within everybody stays back the white seems to be a former County fire crews they'll take care that for [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] at Tulsa International Raceway in Oklahoma in 2001 this racer decided to make a lap in a friend's car [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah at the 2005 Wall Street nationals in the middle Ewoks [Music] Oh Oh no longer all you got it jump out with the hole [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] Oh [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] um okay I got burned the hair off my back oh how did I was over I back our fire truck out of Fargo okay so us on board and three the Rangers [Applause] while any fire incident certainly makes for a spectacular visual effect most race fans will agree it's the giant wheel stands that keep them coming back sit back folks because you're about to witness the largest single collection of skyscraper wheel stands we've ever shown you and certainly anybody who's ever been in a car that goes straight up knows one thing for sure it's not the take-off you have to worry about it's those brutal landings and by the way a lot of these clips are coming to you straight from Ozark International Raceway in Rogersville Missouri one of the original homes of outlaw street racing [Music] nobody will argue the fact that outlaw ten and a half inch tire racing is probably evolved quicker than any other professional category of drag racing and I stress the professional category aspect because indeed in just a matter of five full seasons it has turned into a big-money type of racing but let's not forget our roots are the real cars and believe it or not and you look those are my Christensen's machine is a classic example there's early model Camaro has been pounding on the temp ID circuits for years now it still retains its original factory identifiability you're certainly the subject of one of the most famous wheel stands in drag racing video history but that's what's one of the most remarkable things about it is the fact that you got this thing to go up as high as it did being an Allsteel car what the world happened I thought it's a real car broker what was the story behind why they collapsed the way they did well it all started when we put it aluminum block in the car to try to make it go faster there goes 300 pounds off the front end right there yep and you combine that with a broken cam on the rear end ozzie and holds the wheelie bar you've got one hell of a we're a great example of why to check the car before every run right well absolutely now when you are in the car it had to be one of the most bizarre experiences anybody has ever dealt with because you obviously felt it go up but then when it dropped down to the left side you couldn't possibly have known what the heck was going on it happened so fast I really wasn't sure what happened did you think at any point that the car already had rolled no no I was you know the car went up it flipped over on its side and I was just wondering to myself what the hell just happened to me the body part is is every human being that watched it was saying the same thing it wasn't till after I got out of the car and the car was flipped over on its side that I seen the wheelie bar hanging from the smile and I know right right now what happened yeah the video the the classic urban hillbilly shot of you exclaiming your displeasure is prominent yeah I was doing the Mikey stamp now let's clear up one of the great urban legends of all time and drag-racing explain the giant blower well my dad brought that home from a junkyard and we think it came off of a freight train and it was so cool that you know we just had to stick it on the motor but what a lot even though this the picture of that thing sitting there with the blower sticking through the the hood of the car made it on the internet and went global within a matter of hours a lot of people don't realize that you actually fired the car with that blower on it it was attached yeah yeah we've yet to make a pass with it but it's in the works where in the world did you have to make a belt for it I mean how did you get the belt to work yeah I was special or about absolutely insane any idea how much boost that thing was supposed to put out or I mean would it just blow the heads right off of it ever ran well when we fired it up the first time I just blip the throttle once and it raised the front wheel off the ground about an inch and blew both head gaskets that's exactly why I asked that all right back to reality is outlaw ten five beyond the grasp of normal human beings right now I believe so I mean I think they need to put some restrictions on it somehow to keep it to where you don't have to have a hundred and fifty thousand dollar race car to go race for peanuts there is the advantage right now of being able to take the wheelie bars off and run some of the limited Street outlaw races are putting drag radials on and running that way well that's a tough class to I mean it's no cakewalk there and it's a total different animal - yeah a lot more fun yeah yeah I prefer to wheelie bars myself no wheelie bars and DOD tires yeah I think he'd probably go for that and I compromise the urban hillbilly would be there for every pass he ever made for the rest of his life under more than one [Music] Oh in the faraway keeps a volunteer away in the hospital almost great [Applause] in the hallway Brent Marcus trans-am in 2005 atmo can drag way and droplet Missouri [Applause] [Applause] supersonic Florida move Melanie for example working with ever wild wild thyme but 55 oldest now dream forward the new rate of [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hidden in the woods of north-central Missouri if you're lucky enough to actually get to Chevy Nova nirvana you'll find the biggest selection of 64 and 65 Chevy Nova is known to man but along with these stock models you'll also find machine that was an icon of the original outlaw Street movement everybody remembers the wagon back in the late 1990s the very beginning of literally this car became an absolute fan favorite all over the Midwest and for that matter more than a dozen tracks where this thing campaign great system when you look at this car you have to understand that back then these things were indeed basically stock Street machines and the vast majority of them were home-built and that leads to the man who created the infamous Nova that later had well as you can see on the roof that giant smiley face that told the story every time it left the starting line mark were to house and had this thing on the bumper more times than even he can probably remember how many racetracks in fact name the different racetracks were you actually competed with this car a gateway Kansas City Tulsa Ozark mo can lunch um you fell into the same trap that most of the early street racing street-legal car heroes fell into you came out with a car the probit Prada everywhere you went and then when you decided to step up to something even better people got mad at ya they pretty much every racetrack I go to now with my new car everybody says where's the wagon it's people that I've never talked to never met before they come up to me say well this thing ain't no good where's the wagonette you know I was like well it's sitting at home in the weeds what were you thinking and I should point out that a lot of people confuse this car in its three different variations with another very famous in spectacular yellow guys are from north central Alabama that car they come down and watch me race to Jackson Tennessee with this car in probably 2000 and said they had one at home just like it and you hear that all the time like yeah whatever and then it calls me says you know I want you to build my car just like yours it's like well I guess I can do that and use the actors like yours yeah yeah it sure does slamming down with broken parts and it does going down a track so speaking of which list off how much you broken the suspension and drivetrain to this from coming down hard Oh believe it or not not too many parts a couple old pans or pumps a couple of front wheels at different times a set of wheelie bars that we had on it at one time it so go so it just doesn't like wheelie bars on it but there won't be any on at this time right more than likely not no it sure won't that's exactly why he's well the legend like I said that he is when this car campaigned it was probably the only full-bodied station wagon that was going straight up in the air in the late 1990s but as this car became more and more competitive and for that matter quicker and faster obviously keeping on the ground became a serious issue doesn't look like it's serious enough to keep him from one to do it even worse in the future 90% of the cars that I built have all been on the bumper at one time or another such kind of where we get the name from T where I do take your diaper off I presume you're still building cars other than just resurrecting this one sure am I've got three in the shop now and I've got one more on the waiting list to get to since I can get the shop cleaned out website title race cars calm just like it sounds all one word no hyphens or nothing in it while shorter than take your diapers off race car that it is that it is laughter oh yeah [Music] [Applause] you Oh Oh [Music] Bernice knitting number 40 and what a word [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] you ah [Music] ah you [Music] Oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] probably a firm is sitting number 40 and what away [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] all right you've sat through the worst possible scenarios in drag racing video history but now it's time for the good stuff here's to the greatest drivers out there and urban hillbilly videos most incredible saves [Applause] they go 684 Oh okay [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] and [Music] worth that J problem
