next event on the track here at hayward field on this beautiful friday night is the international mile so many memories made at the mile distance over the many many years of the prefontaine classic more than 290 sub 4 minute performances in fact most miles sub 4 in any venue in the world in the history now trying to be continued here in 2021 like i'd like to take a look at some of the highlighted athletes timothy sein and eric sowinski be the pacesetters but next to them henry win the ncaa indoor mile champion back in 2016 for virginia yeah what a year he's had getting the a standard in the 1500 disappointing trials but he's got to look at his teammate josh kerr what he just did at the olympics and feel pretty good about his chances and a good hand for the mulleted one craig ingalls just outside making that u.s team fourth at the olympic trials at 1500 meters good rest of the field you see there is spread out all the way down to hip number one the belgian peter callahan national champion this year but this is the men's international mile at hayward field [Applause] timothy sign and siwinski will get to the front they're late as as the pacesetters and along with them again those lights on the rail the wave light technology and that green will be kind of even pace for the first two laps or so of the race they're going through hopefully in about 153 and then trying to carry sub two on the last two laps sam prakle the former university of oregon duck getting settled in in the black and green there in the middle of the pack just behind angles in front of them henry wins everyone's settling in finding room on the rail swift start to this men's international mile yeah starting on that turn for a mile is a little unique you want that position right away there's a lot of jostling i think that's why you saw such a quick start and everyone settles in now and tucks in right on the rail got swinsky out front who's just a master pacer i think this is going to be set up really nice you add in the lights it's set up for a really great race zawinski an 800 meter specialist but loves to mix it up as a pacesetter as well as they come through the first quarter mile in 56-3 [Applause] hot from the gun and wind looks like he's really excited to get out front i think he's had a little bit of disappointment at the trials coming back from injury after injury and finally put together a healthy season he wants to capitalize here tonight i believe this is his last race of the season so a lot to prove a lot to get done and good group to do it with so behind zwinsky and sign is wynn engels prankel and then the belgian callahan and back to archie davis of great britain and charles still there tibeto of canada the 2016 olympian 14 cannon now moving up on the outside shoulder of callahan and slides into that fourth spot in the group along with vincent ciati running in the home kit of the oregon track club elite he trains here in eugene nca runner-up at virginia tech back in 2018. tibeto just had a great race at the falmouth mile putting a lot of these guys right behind him in his rear view running a great race out there for the win so it's not surprising to see him putting him into position getting ready for the last few laps to really just turn this on 155 6 at the half mile mark all these men with sub 4 performances in their pb column so now it's a chance to get into some racing sign trying to drive this through for another couple of hundred meters but phil bear tibito of canada now moves ahead of win working there still in third is craig ingles as they'll wind it up come home sign is off the lights still on but the racing now begins craig ingles looks like he's in a great spot i think he's been trying to manage that disappointment of the trials it's a balance you go right from the gun going man i just want to take a break i think he did that you can see him on the track you can see the hunger he loves being out here he loves performing and that's what he's doing right now he's got his eyes on the back of tibato you see we'll see if he has some kick in those legs left but the canadian now working his way down the back stretch for the final time and finding some space now between him and angles back there in third that's sam prakle the usa road mile champion back in 2020 but with just a half lap to lo go gotta find a lot of pace in his legs because there's a lot of room between him and the leader tibeto he's going to take a monumental effort it might not be prickle but it looks like engels has got it he's really turned it on here yep he's having a good time and that's when he's dangerous and he liked it when he came off the turn but he better look ahead and not behind because coming up the finish is 40 feet and he's going to take the win oh my that's a surprise i don't know if engels is going to be disappointed or just have a good laugh at himself i'm not sure it looked like he was having a great time out there he loves this crowd but beamish closing it down took it serious all the way to the line capitalizing on a really good year he just had a win last weekend at the ed murphy classic if i'm not mistaken so this is not a surprise at all he's with on athletic groups and uh they've been working hard so here it is engels making the big move it looked like phil bertibato had this going away they give him a little bit of company here big move from ingles thought he had it with the wave a little bit too soon and you know dez there is a viral moment out there in the internet of a steeple chaser from oregon who did the exact same thing in a meet against the washington huskies a dual meet and the same time and the same thing happened here with engels got a little confident coming off the final turn thinking he had phil bear tibito beat and you know he was right except that jordy beamish was still in the race and closes with that surge and you can see the reaction by engels as he realizes he gets beat on the outside and all smiles for the new zealander beamish takes the win in 350 486 everyone in the race in the top eight go under four minutes adding even more sub four performances to what is always a legendary distance here at three i think it's gonna be a night paul you can feel the energy lone men's event on the docket for this distance night in eugene and it was a good one as beamish takes the win as you see the final results scroll through all the way down to trip hurt in eighth position finishing below that sub 4 effort we'll step aside women's
