well we got a barn we got a dozer we got a 250 a haul truck and a pond that needs some dredging it's gonna be a good day and my kind of spectators let's go play in the mud [Music] and away we go so we got an old cow pond down here at the bottom of the hill or on the hillside it is for watering the cows obviously well over the uh 60 or 70 years that's been here it's kind of been a little neglected and it got shallow and they're pretty dry here and running out of water so we're going to be digging it out taking about 900 yards of sediment out of the edges cleaning everything up making it deeper but first i've got to go down here and take a couple trees off of the dam that are dead and dig up some stumps i've got to add some dirt to the front face of the pond damn the uh cows have kind of a big old snapping turtle coming up out of the mud the cows have kind of eroded the front face of the pond dam [Music] look at the head on that i think he's got like a four inch diameter neck that's why i don't swim in ponds all right well i gotta take a couple branches off this tree get up there and get a big dead tree going to cut and drop it down [Music] uh there we go only one right [Music] uh i think that fence is coming down it's right here inside the pond so i kind of grate all that out as well we're gonna get rid of these stumps and uh while he's hauling them off i'm going to start transferring dirt down there to the pond dam for the front slope kind of build that back so no 250's got the power for stumping so [Music] so [Music] so eastern red sears that's what these were [Music] [Music] i got one more stump to take up right here on the pond dam and uh as you can tell the cows like to walk around edges of ponds and they actually kind of created a shelf right here they'll kind of pick a path and they'll just stick to it and they've eroded the front edge of this pond dam pretty bad so what i'm going to be doing is uh laying some of that material back up here and transferring it down and kind of building this dam back in place kind of like i did over there i threw some some of that pulled it back up just so uh i could get up there take that dead tree down but uh right in here is probably the worst it's only probably eight feet wide well down there was probably the worst because i had to build it the machine was wider than the pond dam so let me pop this stump up and i'll load him a load of brush up and those stumps to haul off and then i'm going to uh start cutting some of that dirt laying it in here and i'll be able to take the dozer and push it down here or something i figure it out okay so i have the one load of stumps loaded out he's hauling that off i'm gonna work on this panda and what i think i can do is since the top of the dam's so narrow and it's kind of undermined i think we want to kind of notch that out a little bit and actually just go down the front face of it lay my dirt up there and then cut it back in and lay it in place i think that's what i'm going to do i think that's what's going to work find out so far so good [Music] so over here i stuck the bucket down and uh [Music] yeah that's solid rock oh yeah so we're not going to try to dig anything out of there um i'm not really going to gain anything because i can't go too much farther and i don't want to take the sediment that's off of that rock because it might actually open up a leak or something so i'm actually knocking this a little bit and then what i'll do i'll transfer some dirt down here throw it up here and then i think i can get back in here with the dozer and i should be able to do the rest from that side right there so now that i've made it over this far i'm gonna come here cut some dirt and start laying it back and uh then i'll kind of pull that slope back as i go and hopefully all this won't slide off into the bond [Music] so that was actually original ground i think i hit a spring because the water is just gushing out of that first hole i dug i really don't have a spot to stockpile dirt so i'm just kind of laying it on my bench and i'll transfer it back as i go down here [Music] so it's a beautiful countryside up here once this is cool and get rid of that algae it'll be a pretty little body i still forget sometimes [Music] so i'm trying to mix a little of that topsoil with it because it's kind of a sandier material that way it'll kind of maybe grow something plus that's muddy if i mix it with this dry stuff it'll make something not so dry and not so muddy that's a little wet that's flattered all right let me transfer this down here a little bit farther and then i'll go ahead and start trying to build the bank back here we go first scoop i'm gonna try to throw some dirt in there and kind of build so over time the cows have just eroded this out pack some dirt in here and then i can run the dozer down here and trim it back out get a nice little uh float back on it so i'm just going to kind of pack it in a little bit with the note with the uh excavator and then i can when i run the dozer down here it'll finish tracking everything in the pond dam's good it just needs to be shaped up a little better i'm gonna do half from this way and half from the other side i think that'll be halfway hopefully because there won't be no coming back out here i think that'll be adequate and they pull up flaps sliding off into the pond with the bird and do it again luckily kind of way i put that dirt in there that track already kind of packed that in there pretty good and i'll run like i said i'll run the dozer down here and trim all this out should be able to get on that slope this seems pretty pretty sandy we slide off into the pond we'll just pull it out with the excavator it'll [Music] maybe maybe right in there but that's gonna be about it so all right i'm gonna keep doing that and working my way back then we'll jump to the other side so i got the far side probably halfway across now i've come to the other side where i started this morning taking that dead tree down i'm gonna go ahead and cut some of this better clay material it's more like the dry stuff and transfer it down the pond dam to get the material that i need to build that slope back from this side and then i'll load him out that last load of brush and probably jump on the dozer get this grated out and then it's gonna be time to start digging some mud out of here so it would be nice to be able to take the haul truck and dump some dirt down there but it just it won't fit dam's way too narrow and by the time i made it wide enough for the truck to fit on i could just throw this dirt down there so that's why i'm doing it this way so once this is redone the uh the cows will be fenced out of here so they can't get to it and what they're going to do is we're actually probably going to install it there's going to be a pvc pipe that goes through the pond dam and it'll be into the water level and there'll be a valve on the back so there'll be some water and troughs uh set up behind the pond dam so that all they have to go down there is turn a valve she said that um the whales are not very they don't produce a lot of water around here so there's not enough quantity to fill the cow troughs up with well water for long periods of time so this will provide water for all the livestock so [Music] got all the dirt transferred back here now i'm just trying to kind of rake the edge in uh it worked out really good i laid the dirt up here and then i was able to drive down and that really packed it in place now i'm just trying to break it out and i'll come in here with the dozer and run down that front face grate it out hopefully not slide off the two ponds hopefully i'm trying to get it rubbed in into place here a little bit more dirt right there in those two holes i dug out from where that right in there i have the mini excavator here when i do the uh overflow so i can touch that up a little better it's kind of hard to grade with this big thing close the dirt there i can look it up from there [Music] so so [Music] [Music] this will really shape up nice when the dozer i hope hopefully that stuff's not too wet so [Music] so now i have all the dirt transferred down across the pond dam to add to that slope got it all kind of roughed in with the excavator laid up in place now i can go and jump on the dozer run over the top blade it down hit the front edge make that mess look a lot nicer and then uh we'll start loading some mud out of here so we're gonna go out into the field up there so [Music] so [Music] so so so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so so so so so [Music] so so [Music] god damn shaped up pretty nice just kind of roughly tracking it in with the dozer time start digging the pond well our first load didn't go well considering how dry it's been it's really wet up here for some reason they did get a lot of rain the other night but that's uh it's soft we couldn't get the truck out but john walks back over here or that's pumpy that is bumpy that's going to be a problem spot well i'll see if i can take a load of dry material that will dump there mix it together load number two not going any better this was the dry dirt we tried to put into the this was the driver that was going to the other area [Music] so [Music] that was the post for the uh duck box the only thing that wanted to say i figured we better uh get it before uh there you [Music] i'm go to build a ramp now oh my god oh boy oh boy this is reminding me of that job that we had to pull off of for eight months i gotta pull it out like that other one i think i can pinch and pull it out like that other one [Music] all right i'm gonna let it go it's like just a real wet spot right we're gonna try to move over and see if that'll take care of maybe two more loads the attempt number three i need some float tires like wade's got on this truck the only problem is they're about forty thousand dollars now that's half of what that truck so one more and i'm gonna send him if he can't make it with a baby load there's no need to keep putting big loads on there [Music] see what happens and done already done um [Music] so [Music] maybe if i just cut this mud out it is somewhat solid down there below just get them a channel to drive in so everything's going pretty good now we ended up taking a a couple more fence post out up there on the right and the truck was able to stay on that ridge out of that little valley and it seems the ground seems to be holding it up now i've cut out a pretty good little slot here for the truck to back into and he is getting dumped in the dirt over there on the back corner of that field i'm making pretty good progress on getting this section of the pond dug out just kind of working my way back around i'm probably two feet below the water and uh once i cut all this out i'll go in here and just kind of slip that up and let the water over and flatten that out a little bit deeper so we had to take out a couple more fence posts through the uh opening and got the truck a little farther up the hill uh i'm only putting five scoops on the truck normally i put about eight to nine so half loads a little over half load but some is better than none luckily we only gotta take out probably well it'll be about 100 truckloads now it was going to be about 50 full truckloads so get out what we can i ran into a pretty good uh sinkhole right there and the truck couldn't back up any farther so i decided to transfer the dirt down while i'm waiting on it gives me something to do after uh probably a couple more loads i won't have to transfer it i can load it directly into the truck my so so [Music] it's a pretty hard material once you get down there to it [Music] [Music] i might be able to start sneaking one more scoop on there we'll see i don't want to overdo it destroy the path so a couple more loads for today and that'll pretty much wrap it up come back tomorrow and finish digging the pond out i'll have to make another ramp for the truck to back down tomorrow since i'm almost past it and the ruts are so deep it can't really turn it's kind of like it's almost like train tracks when you get deep ruts the truck just kind of you steer steer to the ruts and then just let the truck go where it wants to because it won't come out of them if you stir your steered or what it'll just follow them right along so i'm able to put another scoop or so in the truck at least six scoops ground seems to be holding it up enough it's holding the truck up enough where it's able to haul it's not really holding it up i've got some ruts to fix this section right here is looking good starting to get a good defined shoreline there now so i clean all that up with the dozer and break the little cofferdam over into this it will all be pond [Music] we are taking the fence down so that when i grade that edge it won't be in the way i'll just keep cutting this pond out at least when the sun come out all that like algae went away still a call cap on well that's a wrap for today got the pond cut out probably a third of it cut out and the damn uh cleaned up dirt put back on the edge and grate it in so come back tomorrow finish cutting this out and go ahead and shape everything up with the dozer and cut that water in we'll go fuel up and call it a day there's the roots
