hi everyone it's your girl Dion and today we're going to talk about the cost of living in Chiang Mai [Music] many people say that Chiang Mai is one of the cheapest place you can live then and I've been living here for the past three months so whether you're a digital Nomad like me an expat or you're just curious about the cost of living in Chiang Mai today I'm going to break down all the costs and details to you so let's address the first thing you need whether you're planning to move to Thailand or just visiting you gotta figure out the business situation Thailand offers a variety of Visa options to accommodate different lengths of stay and purposes so for example as an Indonesian I got to stay for 30 days free visa when I first entered Thailand I also offered a tourism Visa which can last for like 60 days or 90 days and I believe for 60 days tourism Visa I gotta pay for 35 US Dollars after your Visa expired you can go to the immigration office to extend your Visa that's what I did after the first month living in Thailand and I paid around 1 900 Thai baht and then in Chiang Mai is in a close border with laws after the second month I went to do a border run in Laos so we took a day trip it's around three hours three to four hours from Chiang Mai so you depart from Chiang Mai Pastor Chiang Rai and then go to the Laos border right we just got our stamp and the border now we just purchased another ticket to go back to Chiang Mai this is the bus but yeah the entire process was really smooth especially if you don't need to get a pizza on a rifle basically just like go in from the arrival fill in a form and then after that you go to the other side they will check your passport give you a stand and then yeah it's basically just like a turning process and that's it I think the entire process took less than 30 minutes um the bus itself from Chiang Mai to Laos I think like throughout the Border it only took us it took us like five minutes so it was like really fast um but now it's just like I gotta wait for the bus to go back to Chiang Mai and for the visa extension if you have an awesome passport you don't have to pay another fee so yeah you got another 30 days extension for free and after you arrive in Thailand the other thing you gotta figure out is the SIM card so don't make the same mistake as me I got the SIM card at the airport and they charged me around almost 700 Baht you can get the SIM card outside of the airport so I got mine extended for 299 Baht per month and that's for unlimited data accommodation is definitely one of the most important thing you need to address when you're moving to Chiang Mai so on our first month we're living in this Villa outside of niman area which is the city center area um it's around 20 to 30 minutes away from the city but we lived in this beautiful Fila it has like first floor and second floor kitchen big backyard it was a dream and we paid the same amount for living in a one-bedroom apartment in niman so this is the one bedroom apartment that I'm staying in right now this is in niman area so basically you got the living room here and then they also have a Kitchen where you can cook over here it's really nice because basically they already have everything the cooking utensils and then microwave the fridge so everything's done here you don't need to get anything else and here is the dining area I just use it for working and the part that I like the most is they have a washing machine so I like it when I can do my own laundry here so I don't have to pay extra to get my laundry done yeah that's what's really nice about here and you got a really nice feel from here as well so for this place it costs 25 000 Baht for two people so each person it costs around 12 500 and we book it through Airbnb but if you want to look for a cheaper alternative you can also look in Facebook Marketplace just be sure that you look really check everything freely because you don't see your host or the person until you got here in Chiang Mai all right now moving on to the bedroom I really like it because the lighting is really good in this bedroom it has several windows so yeah you have one working that's over here obviously the bed and then this is the bathroom [Music] this is the apartment facility we have a swimming pool which is really nice and also a gym I rarely use this gym I usually come in the morning if I wanted to add a little bit of cardio but it's just nice to have these options here I personally prefer to live in niman area just because of the convenience you got tons of cafes a lot of bakeries Supermarket basically all of the Necessities you need it's just like few minutes away and one of the reasons why I moved to Chiang Mai is because of the digital Nomad culture and if you live in a city in niman area you can see tons of digital Nomad working at a cafe here as well so we did a monthly rent for the bike and for this bike we pay around 2 000 Thai two thousand Thai baht per month and for the guests itself like usually it costs around 100 baht to get a full tank if you don't want to cook at home or if you don't have any time to cook at home you can also just eat out and I would say like the cost of eating out in Thailand is pretty affordable for example for like one call Soy it only costs around 50 to 60 Thailand baths and yeah basically you can get a full meal for less than 1 100 fog and there's tons of options here in Thailand honestly for eating out there's so many options here in Chiang Mai you pretty much can find every every type of food we have some Japanese food here this is like a local Thai food and when I say to have everything here for the food options I literally means everything they have a cannabis juice here oh my God this is so funny and this is the food court in Maya mall they basically have everything here I love going to the food court because they just have a huge range of selections if you don't feel like going out you can also just like order food they have food Panda here or grab food as well so it's very convenient all right I'm about to head out for my weekly grocery shopping so I thought I'd take you guys with me we're gonna go to macro which is like one of the biggest Supermarket here and also like it's pretty affordable so I want to show you guys what's the cost and how it looks like foreign made it here and the reason why I like to shop here is just because they got pretty much everything like from the produce also like the Frozen stuff and the price is like a lot cheaper compared to other places because it's a wholesale so you can get if you're cooking like quite often at home I think it will be better to shop here because you can get like all of this stuff like in a wholesale price [Music] and I've been trying to cook more often at home just because like I'm trying to eat healthier as well here we got some of the Frozen stuff I'm just gonna look for chicken breasts or chicken fillet [Music] where is it I found it I'm gonna get the chicken fillet this is usually what I get and for I think this is two 2 kg and it costs 160 165 baht I think I'll get some pasta as well and look over here like this big bag of penne only costs like 95 95 Baht here so we're getting that [Music] so now we are on the first level and I have more Fresh Products like meat fish vegetable eggs or actually I actually gotta get some eggs one thing I love about living in Southeast Asia again is getting like different types of like tropical fruit avocado was like extremely expensive in China so yeah definitely want to get want to eat more avocado while I'm here all right I think I'm pretty much done I ended up getting a lot of stuff I hope we can I hope I can carry it home let's see [Music] all right so for all of this I paid um 1870 bucks and I think this can last me at least for two to three weeks another thing that I want to show you guys is the gym so this is the gym that I go to give me a general idea of how the team looks like I'm at the gym right now I have a monthly membership in this gym this gym is just inside Mario mall and I paid 1900 wait 1699 back per month and it comes in like more expensive here for a gym in Chennai because I went to a gym that costs only 1000 I bought per month but this gym also has a really good facility they have a sauna they also have like classes you can take unlimited classes you can take every single month here is called the gym looks like I would say they have a pretty complete treatment here so it's a pretty nice dream I'm going to put all of the details of how much I spend in a month here in Chiang Mai starting from the Visa accommodation Transportation groceries um eating out and also like the SIM card and in total I spend this much in Chiang Mai for a month alright guys I hope this video will help if you're planning to move to Chiang Mai or you're just curious about the cost of living in Chiang Mai if you like this video don't
