knowing god the message today is peace knowing the god of peace do you really know what peace is all about do you know what the bible requires for you to have peace politicians talk about peace preachers talk about peace but what does god say about peace first of all peace is the gift of god and if you don't know god peace is out of the question stay tuned you're going to want to hear this and thank god for that progress and in just a few months four to be exact we are going i've been told that's your deadline you got four months put it all back like you ever come home and tell your kids put it back the way you found it we're kind of having that dynamic in our relationship right now so just it work with us but in a few months we're going to be back in our setup stage and have brand new seating and a number of things here but just real quick how many of y'all appreciate those new screens somebody texted me last week and said you need to shave which tells me that the definition on the screens is is deep enough but those upgrades and a number of others are going to be a part of it and i want to thank each and every person who has sown seed into this vision because it's coming along beautifully speaking of things that are coming along beautifully i got a great testimony from alan webb of rockville maryland dad here's what he said he said pastor hagie i want to thank you for what you are doing with youtube and putting your programs on sunday morning we attend a local church however we watch cornerstone before we go we even come back on sunday nights at 6 30 to watch the evening service i was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease a few years ago and see one of the top doctors at one of the largest medical institutes in this part of the country every month for three months i have gone and had my kidney function checked and every month for three months it has progressively gotten worse i asked the doctor how come i don't see improvements and she candidly told me your kidneys will never improve they will continue to decline outside of a transplant your situation will be terminal and you're going to need dialysis on sunday september the 19th at the end of your message you said if anyone needs physical healing in their body stand up and i did in my home you prayed for me from your pulpit in san antonio i'm ecstatic to say that yesterday i had a routine kidney function lab check and my improvement is remarkable the doctor cannot believe what she sees yes thank you god thank you dog amen no distance in prayer there's no distance in prayer and say first let me address about mike pimpel you want to hear this man because he's one of the most brilliant leaders in our nation today he is a man who is informed he is a man who has the courage to say what's exactly wrong and here's one of the things that's happening in our country that the general population does not yet grasp there's a socialist principle that you create a problem to create the power to control the people get that concept in your mind you create a crisis to create the power and necessity to control the people why isn't the border the prop the problem the crisis on the border being resolved because the reigning party needs that crisis to get your eyes off of what happened in afghanistan what happened in afghanistan was a world crisis that's going to come home to terrorize this nation right now i'm telling you that that destabilized the whole of the middle east and the enemies of israel are uniting like never before and they are greatly expanded in their capacities because of the billions of dollars of of material of military material that was left there when we left there to say nothing of the americans who were abandoned there but if we can keep that going on that uh talking about what's happening on the border they they have gotten afghanistan off the headlines they're right now in washington trying to pass a 3.1 trillion dollar spending bill if they do america will become an economic cuba i'm praying to the good lord that americans the american people have the capacity to see through the fog that's what's happening behind the screen god to accomplish your impossible dream the bible from genesis to revelation is a book that reeks with the hope of god jesus christ is presented in the bible as our blessed hope hope generates excitement hope overcomes despair and discouragement hope will be there all the time because god is with us all the time let me tell you this if you have no hope your heart will break you will stagger through life blinded by your own tears you will walk a road where there is no joy suffocated by the sound of your sobbing voice there is hope for a brighter tomorrow dreams still come true there is hope that is guaranteed by the 3 000 promises of god found in this book our hope is not wishful thinking our hope is alive our hope is real our hope is eternal it is available it's powerful it will make you laugh again it will make you sing again i challenge you get up from the paths of disappointment get up from despair and defeat try again hope now in god the victory is ours through christ the lord [Music] will you please stand for the reading of god's word turn with me please to matthew chapter 5 verse 9. as today we conclude volume 1 of our sermon series knowing god with the sermon the god of peace the first sermon in this series was who is your god the second sermon was the god of hope today we're talking about the treasure of peace that the world is frantically searching for but has not found america is in the state of civil war our fly our flag that flies to honor those who have sacrificed their lives when the battle of freedom is now being publicly desecrated our churches have been told by political leaders to close the doors but the bars our universities have become cesspools of anti-semitism where jewish children are being spit upon and publicly humiliated synagogues are being burned jews are being chased down the streets of california for no reason other than they are jewish that happened in nazi germany just before hitler came to power our churches have embraced a hot tub christianity that teaches you how to adjust to your sin not to confess and forsake your sin as the word of god requires many churches are divided because there is no peace even in the house of god you can sing peace peace wonderful peace but until you embrace the prince of peace you're never going to have peace most today do not have peace of mind statistics indicate that americans represent about six percent of the world's population and we take about 90 percent of the tranquilizers figure that most do not have peace in their marriage and their family in their workplace peace with god almighty but we're going to open the word of god today to help you find the peace of god that surpasses all understanding peace that will be with you through the darkest valley of your life peace that will stay with you in the midst of the storm peace that will help us as america to overcome this conflict in which we presently find ourselves i want you to listen closely because this is the penicillin shot for relationships that have gone astray in your marriage and your family in your career with your own mind and body our nation and your eternal soul read with me please matthew 5 and 9 the word of god says blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of god think about that father thank you for your word and thank you for the treasure of peace help us to discover it today in the sacred text that god has given us and take it home to improve our lives forever in jesus name we pray and ask and all of god's children said amen you may be seated everyone wants peace but what is it your search for peace and the search for peace has become an interest international obsession we live in the age of anxiety americans live behind locked doors of fear we have burglar alarms we have burglar bars we have guns that are cocked and loaded and if you don't have one you need one we have attack dogs that are straining at the leash gangs rule the streets and there there is a reign of terror women carry mace just in case a woman is raped every 48 seconds in america sex trafficking has made the picking up of teenage children an art form we have become the most violent on the face of the earth in chicago alone last year 775 people were killed in street combat between citizens planned parenthood is selling baby body parts which is absolutely no different from adolf hitler and the nazis we're writing books about peace of mind and they sell like hotcakes why because we're searching for in a book what we cannot find in our hearts question what is peace what is peace if you can't define it you don't know what it is when you found it first begin with the fact that peace is precious the ancient poet has said heap upon other men the treasures of the world but give to me the peace of the untroubled heart point we are an uptight generation there are many things we desire health love riches beauty talent power fame all of those things americans crave but without the peace of mind those things will bring you nothing but torment if we have peace no matter what else we lack life is beautiful without peace a palace of gold is still just a penitentiary what is peace the absence of strife is not peace ask most people what peace is and they'll say it's the absence of strife nothing could be further from the truth at the moment jesus is speaking the words of matthew 5 there is no war on the earth but there is no peace the roman empire has forced the world to live on its knees and the people have lost their means and their will to resist their overwhelming power rome kept peace through fear the jews were not at war with rome because they forced them to swallow their hatred and submit with sullen rage to their misfortune of living at that point in history when i was a boy living in the country in southeast texas my father owned a pen full of magnificent dogs if my father would have had a relationship with people like he had with dogs you would never have heard of billy graham he loved dogs and dogs loved him and he trained those dogs for hunting dogs but he had two dogs who disliked each other turned him loose and they would fight blood running out of their mouth they would fight and fur would fly they fought until they were utterly exhausted and laid down at the green grass and growl at each other and show their teeth they were not fighting they were just too tired to keep fighting they were not fighting and there was no peace the point is the absence of strife does not mean that you're at peace you're just too tired to fight and that describes what's going on in some of your marriages there is no peace in your family you're just waiting for round 10 to come back your marriages are not healed you're just resting to reload the streets of america's major cities are quiet and suddenly riots explode because there is no peace of god peace is is not absolute tranquility peace is not detachment from risk and responsibility peace is not total security peace is not the absence of tension the blue heaven of the untroubled life in this world there is no such thing as total security or the absence of tension a woman came to see her pastor in counseling she said i'm tired of the stress i'm tired of the tension i'm tired of this constant endless responsibility of life i want this to be over and the pastor said good i'm going to show you where you can find it he walked out of the church put her in a cab and drove to the first cemetery and said get out when you get where they are you'll find what you're looking for think about that there is no peace in withdrawal and retreat from life jesus said take up your cross and follow me many people think christianity is a retreat from reality it's exactly the opposite it's the embracing of reality take up your cross and follow me take up your test there are giants to defeat there are mountains to climb there are powers and principalities to conquer there's a race to be one there's a victory to be one christianity is a call to life not death christianity is not a call to escapism it's a call to personal involvement to solve the problem christianity is transforming adversity into opportunity christianity snatches victory from the jaws of defeat christianity is giving and forgiving christianity is fighting the good fight it's resisting the devil until the victory comes christianity is knowing that nothing is impossible to those that believe and are called according to the purposes of god christianity is to counted all joy in the greatest trials of life because the victory is ours through christ the lord give him praise in the house of god paul said the peace of god surpasses understanding why because you can be happier in the combat zone than you can in your comfort zone people think if i can get comfortable i'll be happy wrong there's more peace in the fight than there is comfort with your assignment not accomplished you can be happier in the lion's den with daniel that in the king's palace you can be happier in the fiery furnace with the three hebrew children walking in the fire than you can bowing with all the moral cowards outside before the image of nebuchadnezzar quit looking for maylocks and dialing 911 there is more peace in the battle than there is sitting on the sideline how's this peace is won by accommodating god into the battle peace is one when you accommodate god into the battle do not be afraid of the enemy you have the authority of jesus name you have the power of his blood you have the authority of this word go into the battle confident that i'm going to win this and god is with me and no one can defeat me give him praise in the house of god there is peace in the time of storm because jesus christ is the master of the wind and the wave jesus will take the thing that you think is trying to destroy you and use it to save you those disciples looked at that water like it was going to destroy them jesus used it as a sidewalk to get to them the thing that you think is about to destroy them destroy you god will use it to save you get excited about your problem you're getting ready to say to to discover a savior that's greater than your problem there's peace in the darkest valley there's peace in the darkest valley david said yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for you or with me a shadow is harmless the shadow of a lion cannot bite me the shadow of a snake cannot harm me the shadow of a sword cannot hurt me death is a harmless shadow put it is a divine escort into the gates of heaven because christ lives we shall also live peace is the gift of god let me shock you with this it was never god's plan for there to be universal peace on the face of the earth never jesus said do not think that i have come to bring peace that's what he said i have come to bring a sword that's in the bible a sword divides and i assure you that jesus christ is a divider every person in this building and every person watching this telecast is divided over the fact you have or have not accepted jesus christ there are the saved and the unsaved there is light and darkness and christ and his word is the great divider there are sheep and goats there's the broad way and the narrow way there's the word of truth and there's the deception of the prince of darkness you're either servant of the lord jesus christ or a slave to send in satan saint paul said that which one are you paul said in romans 5 1 we have peace with god through our lord and savior jesus christ peace is the gift of god without moral surrender to jesus christ peace is not possible stop thinking about peace if you have rejected the prince of peace angels sang on that first christmas morning in luke chapter 2 glory to god in the highest and peace on earth toward men of good will the greek text reads actually in that verse says peace on earth to those of whom god approves that's exactly what that text says there is no peace saith god to the wicked but when god approves of you you can have peace in the worst storm that the prince of darkness can send toward you peace is impossible without god's approval peace is not possible without god's approval isaiah 57 20 reads the wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest whose waters stir up mire and dirt there is no peace saith god to the wicked say that there is no peace saith god to the wicked the idea of unif of universal peace for christ rejecting god-hating pleasure-loving world enslaved by greed and materialism is an absolute farce it's just not in the bible peace is the gift of god and he gives it only to those who bow their knee to jesus christ the son of god and until then you will never have peace peace is the opposite of hatred it is absolutely true that the most expensive thing in all the world is hatred look at the byproducts of hatred there's war there is divorce there's racial prejudice there's strikes riots in the streets of america anti-semitism is sweeping this country slander which is the assassination of a person's character is now an art form in washington dc disagree with the people in power and they will assassinate you in the media there is suicide which is nothing but self-hatred how can these things be eradicated not with more bombs and not with more fighter jets not with more socialist panaceas these things can be eradicated when we submit ourselves to the lordship of jesus christ and live according to the dictates of the prince of peace jesus said in matthew 5 blessed are the peacemakers say that with me blessed are the peacemakers get that word in your mind peacemakers for they shall be called the sons and daughters of god where's peace found nowhere in the bible is peace sought as the end of the existence peace is the consequence of something the bible says the fruit of the spirit is peace say that with me the fruit of the spirit is peace peace is the fruit of reconciliation saint paul said being justified by faith we have peace with god there can be no peace of mind until there is peace with god in every man's heart there lurks a sense of inner wrongness and a hunger for rightness uneasiness in the heart is a sense of guilt it is useless to sweep it unto the rug and say it's not there or to take it to some seashore or to some shangri-la of forgetfulness guilt is within and you can't take enough medicine to get rid of it or run to enough exotic places to hide from it it's the voice of the holy spirit saying stop stop what you're doing turn around kneel at the cross confess your sin jesus is the prince of peace and until you have him there will be no peace our generation has dismissed the whole idea of guilt the whole idea of forgiveness and moral responsibility we're seeking right now as a nation to readjust our attitudes that used to be wrong but that's their old-fashioned generation that read the bible here's what we're doing now yeah look at the hell we have now you banish evil without quitting evil and get peace of mind without moral price we're trying to get the gifts of god without the need of god adjustment is the new gospel accept your sins don't rise above your sin alibi for your failure to reduce the pain of your conscience that's what adam and eve did in the garden god came to them and said you're hiding but i've known where you were all the time what about this sin and adam looked right at god and said this woman you gave me it's your fault and eve the woman said this has been you gave me it's his fault they rationalized their sin when you start rationalizing your sin you're escaping the forgiveness of god god didn't kick them out of the garden because they sinned he kicked them out of the garden because they refused to confess their sin and to forsake their sin men feel guilty because they are guilty the sense of guilt is a divine gift it's the voice of god to come to a point of repentance too many are trying to get adjusted to their sin rather than get converted from their sin they're having their sins explained rather than forgiven the bible says if we confess our sin he is faithful and just say that with me he is faithful and just to forgive us of all of our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness that is an awesome verse of scripture isaiah said he will put them in the bottom of the sea never to be remembered against you anymore whoever confesses and forsakes his sins said solomon shall find mercy with the lord hear those two words who confesses and say that word for sakes so let me shock you quit praying for peace and start praying for righteousness because righteousness comes before peace i'll talk about that in just a minute you cannot have peace when you're at war with god you cannot have peace when you're at war with god if your inner self cries for peace it's possible only if you reconcile with jesus christ who is the prince of peace peace is the fruit of responsibility peace is the fruit of responsibility the result of facing and not fleeing the risk of life jesus said my peace i give unto you not as the world has but such as i have give and i give i it unto you the situation when did jesus say that jesus did not say that from some ivory tower of detachment he said that the night before he was to be crucified when he was getting ready to be beaten with a roman whip and nailed to a cross he said my peace i give unto you not as the world gives but such as i have give i it unto you the night before the greatest battle of his life when the powers of hell were going to try to destroy him jesus did his duty that's peace he went to the cross he suffered he bled he died he did his duty we are in a spiritual dog fight for the soul of this nation let's stop complaining about our situation and start fighting the good fight stand up against unrighteousness speak up against unrighteousness resist the socialist poison that's pouring through the system of this nation moses did his duty he faced pharaoh and he led the children of israel out of bondage joshua did his duty he marched around the city of jericho seven times and the walls fell down flat david did his duty he found goliath and he didn't say he'll make a great church member he killed him because that was god's assignment for him [Applause] saint paul did his duty he fought the good fight he walked to the chopping block in confidence and triumph he said in his last written document i have fought a good fight and i have finished my course he was bleeding beaten to a bloody pulp in his ministry three times by a roman cat of ninetales he was stoned and left for dead in the streets of jerusalem he was shipwrecked and fought for his survival he was put in prison more often than he was out of prison for preaching the gospel of jesus christ he was dishonored by evil gossips in the church can you believe that the new testament church having nothing and yet possessing all things that's what he said having nothing and yet possessing all things he said these light afflictions thank god he didn't put any heavy afflictions in there these light afflictions are not worthy to be compared with the crown of life and the glory that god has prepared for those that love him paul is saying do your duty take the cross fight the fight win the battle god's with you you cannot be defeated give him praise in the house of god [Applause] peace is the fruit of righteousness peace on earth good will to men world peace will it ever come not unless there's world righteousness and so i wouldn't count on it it will come when the prince of peace comes to earth that would be jesus christ it's much easier to hate war than to hate within ourselves the things that make war reality the price for world peace is world righteousness and i assure you right now that america by numbers cannot be considered a righteous nation because the numbers of christians are greatly diminishing greatly diminishing the end of the collapse of the traditional family is righteousness the end of economic disaster is righteousness if you have a healthy body the bible says get your nasty self a job and go to work god's banner for a health education and welfare is he that does not work should not eat that's a great message from saint paul to our federal government you cannot give someone integrity you cannot give someone the will to work so that they can defend and provide for themselves the government does not owe you a living you deserve nothing until you work for it peace is the fruit of repentance the last word our lord said to the church was not the great commission the last word the lord said to the church is in revelation 2 and 5 and he says 5 out of 7 times to the church repent or else read that just sometime repent or else that was god's command to 5 out of 7 of the new testament churches if that principle holds true in the 21st century 5 out of 7 churches need first of all to repent cafeteria christianity is now america's theology hot tub christianity has become the order of the day it's sensuous it's relaxing it's laid back it's not demanding it's very nice it'll explain your sin and not ask you to confess your sin it is not to crucified the the crucified life this new testament is about the crucified life this is about spiritual warfare this is about prayer and fasting this is about personal evangelism this is about individual responsibility this is about accountability to the kingdom of god and to the lord himself and when the church adopts that america will adopt that let it start here in jesus name a man said to me the other day said the churches in america are full i said yes but of what he almost spit his false teeth out stand up church of jesus christ in america the battle is raging for the soul of this nation we can win this fight we can be peacemakers not sitting on the couch wringing our hands not by the world changing us but by us changing the world [Applause] be a peacemaker compromise with evil is treason in the courts of heaven peacemaking is proactive it's a decision to do something and not just dream about something peace must be made we may drift into war you may drift into a divorce you may drift into racial hatred you may drift into a global economic disaster but if peace is ever realized it must come through conscious persistent sacrificial effort we must do more than dream about peace in our marriages in our homes personally you must be willing to make peace with that person it is impossible for all of all of us to make fortunes but it is not impossible for every person in this church and every person listening across america to be a peacemaker make peace you can make peace in your marriage but i heard a lady say well i just can't forgive my husband you can but you choose not to because you try to manipulate him or her with your own knowledge of conscience get your home in order the father's the leader in your house go home today and read ephesians 5 and you'll read these evil words wives submit yourselves to your own husbands as unto the lord for the husband is the head of the wife oh and the wife says well i just can't i just can't trust his decisions i guess not look who he decided to marry [Applause] i'll move right along and close with this peacemakers are called the children of god peacemakers are called the children of god when you make peace god looks down from heaven and says that's my child that's my child do you want to be right or do you want to be reconciled you can win an argument and lose a friend maybe you can win an argument and lose your marriage or your family no one can be a peacemaker who does not know jesus christ the prince of peace the way to take america back from racial division from social and moral corruption and spiritual collapse is to make peace with god and then make peace with each other that little simple statement love one another as i have loved you if the new testament church would simply practice that we would have a divine evangelism explosion that the churches in america could not could not hold this nation is so fractured with so many things but there's one thing they will respond to and that is the unconditional love of god don't make them believe what you believe just get them to believe that jesus christ is the answer and you're on your way listen to this verse it's very important the kingdom of god is not meat and drink this is saint paul listen to these three words it's righteousness peace and joy get the sequence what comes first righteousness then comes peace and then comes joy peace on earth is simple it's righteousness when we become righteous then we will have peace our frustration comes when we try to reverse the order we want peace without righteousness we want the gifts of god without the authority of god we want the fruit of the tree without planting the tree in this age of chaos in america we need the advice of jesus christ seek ye first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and all of these things shall be added unto you you want peace you want real peace you want lasting peace you want it in your heart you want it in your family you want it in this nation then confess that you are not the source of peace take responsibility for your life for your decisions and seek righteousness and when you seek righteousness peace will come peace will come blessed are the peacemakers said with me for they shall be called the sons of god stand to your feet please to those of you who are here in this room and those who are watching across america and around the world you say pastor hagee i don't have peace in my home i don't have peace in my family i don't have peace in my marriage or my life i don't have peace of mind i live with stress i live with worry i live with apprehension i live with problems that i cannot solve i am a raging inside with fear with anger with deep sorrow with resentment over the things that have happened to me in my past there are things that have happened to me that i cannot forget and they parade themselves across the theater of my mind and i am tormented i feel alone i feel helpless i've tried and i failed my life is spinning out of control i need the peace of god today desperately if you need the peace of god in any dimension of your life i want you to slip your hand up right where you are right now and i want to have prayer with you those of you who are watching across america lift your hand up and god will give you this peace pray this prayer with me heavenly father in the authority of jesus name in the authority of jesus jesus who is the prince of peace jesus who is the prince of peace i receive him i receive a fresh and anew a fresh in my life in my life that he may give me the strength that he may give me this and the wisdom and the wisdom to be a peacemaker to be a peacemaker for blessed are the peacemakers blessed are the peace for they shall be called the sons of god the sons of god from this moment forward from this moment with all that i have with all that i have i will be a peacemaker i will be a peacemaker to make a difference and make a difference in my family and in jesus name in jesus amen amen give the lord a shout of praise ushers come for the holy communion [Music] this is the sunday that we celebrate the holy communion so at this time if the ushers would take their positions and begin the process of serving the congregation congregation today we have the privilege of receiving this communion which brings to us the peace of god because of the things that jesus christ did when he gave his life for us let's pray father today we thank you for the gift of your son we thank you for the power of his blood we thank you that every promise in your word is sealed and delivered because it is yes and amen through christ jesus our lord so today we receive the peace of god today we receive the reconciliation of our souls because of what you have done for us through your son and our savior amen ushers would you wait on the congregation drink from it all of you can we take the symbol of the lord's shed blood for this is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins but i say to you i will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when i drink it new with you in my father's kingdom and when they had sung a hymn they went out to the mount of olives church everything that you will ever need is made possible for you today because of the broken body and the shed blood of jesus christ you need peace it's been provided freely receive it and give god thanks for it as we remember and rejoice in the joy of our salvation would you give the lord a handcuff of praise in this house today lift your hand for the blessing and now may the lord bless you and may the lord keep you and may the lord make his face to shine upon you and may the lord be gracious unto you and give you his peace may you walk from this assembly to enjoy a dimension of peace in your heart your soul your mind your body your family your relationships with brothers and sisters in christ because you are going to be a peacemaker it will not happen until you make it happen unto the anointing of the and welcome to this week's sunday conversation for the next few sundays i want to discuss with you a very familiar passage of scripture that many people call the lord's prayer and the reality of it is is while jesus christ did give this as a template to his disciples to pray and it has historically taken on this name it is more a design for living than it is the lord's prayer do you know that the bible is a road map for life david said it this way in the psalms he said thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path now the lamp that david was describing was a very small oil lamp that gave off just enough light to see how to take your next step in the midst of darkness the light to his path was his way of saying that the word of god shows me where i should go in dark and desperate times so that i'll prosper so that i can live in the benefits and the goodness of god's word whenever you open up god's word and you see what it teaches and tells us you need to understand that what you are looking at is a road map to the power of god to the peace of god to the prosperity that god's word promises or to the pardon and the forgiveness that you need in your life now before we begin to discuss the lord's prayer i'm going to be looking in matthew chapter 6 as well as luke chapter 11. but what i want you to understand is that prayer must be learned pastor hagee spent some time in the last few weeks discussing the prayer journal he preached a series on the power of prayer he encourages you on a weekly basis to write things down in your prayer journal just a few days ago he was talking about the need to pray for the peace of jerusalem prior to that how to pray for your family or how to pray for god's protection or god's healing well the reality of it is you need to be taught how to pray that's what jesus did for his disciples in luke chapter 11 and verse 1 we read these words and it came to pass as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased that one of his disciples said to him lord teach us to pray as john also taught his disciples jesus needed to teach his disciples how to do what he did in conversation with god and the disciples desired to learn it because when they saw the outcome of the power of his prayer they wanted that power in their life they saw what happened when jesus prayed over the demoniac of gadara they saw what happened when he took the five loaves and the two fish and he blessed them and he broke them and 5000 were fed they saw what happened when lazarus came walking out of a grave or as john puts it in his gospel if all of the things that christ did were recorded in his life there wouldn't be enough books in the world to fill them so as they walked with him and they were taught by him they saw that there was a connection to what he said in prayer and what happened in his life and they had a desire to learn how to do that the question that i want to ask you is do you have that same desire do you want the power of god to be such a prevalent part of your life that when people see it manifested in your life they ask how did you do that and where did that come from if that's the case then this is an exact moment for you to make the decision that prayer is going to be applied and not just recited you know when you mention the lord's prayer for me i go back to my days in a football locker room we would recite it coach would say all right boys take a knee and we'd all go through our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name and then we'd get to the end of that prayer and everything that we said in that prayer was typically canceled out by whatever happened next because it was just a recitation it wasn't an application jesus answered the question in luke chapter 11 and verse 2 when he said to them when you pray say now that's a very important thing when you pray say prayer is not thought prayer is not meditated prayer is spoken it requires action faith without works is dead i've heard all the time i'm praying silently that's not what jesus taught jesus taught when you pray say and then he begins our father who art in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven matthew chapter 6 and verse 9 it complements exactly what was being said in luke chapter 11. matthew 6 and 9 jesus says in this manner therefore pray our father in heaven hallowed be your name what you need to understand is this the bible teaches very clearly that prayerlessness is sin the book of james to him who knows to do right and do it not to him it is sin the book of hebrews it says very clearly looking unto jesus the author and the finisher of our faith that basically gives us the commandment that he is our example if we look to him and he's the author and the finisher of our faith then what he did we should do and if he is a person of prayer then we should be people of prayer samuel confirmed this for the children of israel in first samuel chapter 12 and verse 23 when he said moreover as for me far be it that i should sin against the lord in ceasing to pray for you what he was saying in that moment was if i stop praying i am sinning against god and then he decided that he would be an example for the children of israel when he said i'll teach you the good and the right way he wasn't going to teach the children of israel the good and the right way to live their life he was going to teach them the good and the right way to pray in matthew chapter 6 it tells us and when you pray don't be like the hypocrites how did the hypocrites pray the hypocrites prayed in a way that brought attention to themselves he said they love to pray standing in the synagogues they love to pray on street corners they love to pray so that they can be seen by men and jesus was letting his disciples know that if what you're doing in prayer you're doing so that you can impress others according to what he said about the fair or the pharisees and the hypocrites they have their reward you don't want the reward of your prayer to come from other men you want the rewards of your prayers to come from almighty god that's why the lord's prayer in matthew 6 and luke chapter 11 are a design for living i don't know about you but i can't live without the goodness and the mercy and the grace of god in my life and if this prayer is a set of keys that unlock the doors to receiving his goodness his grace and his mercy that i want to make sure that i use them appropriately so first and foremost prayer must be learned secondly it must be applied and thirdly it must be applied in a proper way what is the best way for us to apply prayer let's look at what jesus had to say in matthew chapter 6 and luke chapter 11. in both cases he begins with these words our father in the pattern of prayer god is first in everything in our life god should be first when we put him first everything else falls into divine order consider what jesus taught at the end of matthew 6 whenever we read the words at the end of the sermon on the mount he said seek first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and all of these things shall be added unto you i have conversations on a regular basis with people who want to compartmentalize the things that they should seek god first in and the things that they don't have to seek god first in they want to seek god first in their marriage they want to seek god first as a parent over their children they want to seek god first in decisions that they have to make in life should we move should we sell the house should we do this should we do that but maybe they don't want to seek god first in their business because they've been to business school they've got expertise they've got understanding but that's not what the verse says matthew 6 33 says seek him first the question that you should ask yourself before you ask any other questions is have i laid this before the lord in prayer and it doesn't matter marriage family parenting personal business lord what should i do now what you need to probably be ready for is that god will give it right back to you because he wants to work through it with you he's not going to take it from you and let you do it all on your own he's going to say you should do this lord what should i do about my children you should do this lord what should i do with my business you should do this why because prayer is a conversation but the most important thing that you need to understand at this moment is that if god is not first he doesn't have any place at all he is either lord of all or he's not lord adult pastor has said that many times what was one of the first things that god told israel when he brought him out of egypt he said you shall have no other gods before me the other thing that i want to point out is the intimacy of this prayer our father now father is a formal word in the english language but in aramaic what jesus told his disciples to say was abba it's the same as me walking into my father's bedroom at his home and saying to him hello daddy it's an intimate conversation and the intimacy of it helps us understand that if we are praying to our father we must be his child in order to pray in his name we must be his child i can walk into my father's bedroom where he sits in his chair and enjoys his private time and i can call him daddy but if you walked into his bedroom and you called him daddy he would say who are you if i walk in he says hello son if you walk in he says what are you doing here for you to be able to say our father you must call him your father in heaven you must be his child this is what romans 10 and 14 says it says how then shall you call on him whom they have not believed how shall they believe in him if they have not heard and how shall they hear without a preacher this is the model it's not the mandate luke 6 luke 11 and matthew chapter 6 are the same form of different prayers the reason that it's called a prayer life is because it is something you have to do every day prayer should be an appetite i have an appetite it is seldom completely satisfied there are moments in which it's content but sooner or later that contentment is going to go away and i'm going to want to eat again why because my physical needs require that i continue to consume in the same way your spiritual life needs food and one of the things that is essential as a nutrient to your spiritual growth is prayer prayer must be an appetite you can't pray once a month and be physically healthy you can't pray once a week and be physically healthy you need to have prayer as a part of your daily life so when you look at these patterns for prayer and you realize what they teach us what you have to understand is the connectivity that it has to your daily existence for example one statement give us this day our daily bread the thing that is so important and powerful about this one thought is that every day of our life is principally the same the sun rises the sun sets we have the evening and then again we have the morning but while every day is principally the same no two days are exactly alike which is why prayer must be a part of your daily life your prayers need to follow biblical principles not repetition but an understanding that god is going to meet your daily needs when you put him first you are beginning a design for life that leads to success matthew chapter 6 and verse 7 we read these words but when you pray do not use vain repetitions as the heathens do for they think that they will be heard for their many words he was saying do not pray with a chant do not pray in a religious form pray in a very real and personal way when you put god first you'll find it very easy and enjoyable to live out the rest of your prayer life because if he's first then everything that you want to talk about is in the proper context if you're first then you have very little to say remember this he is the king it's his kingdom our father who art in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come if it's his kingdom then we're the servants your will be done if it's his will then it's his way his provision comes from his kingdom in the manner in which he chooses his provision is what gives us contentment his provision gives us forgiveness what does the lord's prayer teach us forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors not only do we receive forgiveness but it also requires your confession lord i'm going to forgive those who have harmed me but i also asked that they would forgive me of what i've done to harm them it's an admittance that you're not perfect which means that in engaging in this prayer you humble yourself what does the bible say humble yourself in the sight of the lord for he will raise you up the lord resists the proud then it says lead us not into temptation we're going to discuss that more in days to come but if he leads you follow a lot of the modern world that we live in wants to tell god where to pick us up and where to drop us off and when we'd like to get there but the reality of it is jesus said if any man comes after me let him deny himself take up his cross and follow me do what follow me in the pattern that christ gave us for prayer he taught us put god first and let him lead lead us not into temptation he also delivers you when you're bound carry on through the verses it says lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one for thine is the kingdom there again he's first thine is the power they're his resources and thine is the glory it's all for him forever and ever amen now having said that forever if it's all his all the time do you know what that means there's very little room for you you can't do that if you put your fri if you put yourself first prayer not only requires god being first but prayer requires faith believing jesus taught us in john's gospel that when you pray pray believing john 14 and 14 tells us if you ask anything in my name i'll do it the book of james says if you ask searching for knowledge ask in faith believing do not doubt for he who doubts will receive nothing when you pray believe god will answer you because when you believe that he'll answer you whatever you ask in prayer believing you shall receive this is what the bible says over and over and over you read it in matthew 21 you read it in the book of luke all over the scriptures there is a key essential for you to understand what it takes to receive in prayer and that is faith faith is not hard your head is hard but faith is not hard why do you say that pastor why can you say faith is not hard when i struggle with it so much because the bible says very clearly that we should have childlike faith children cannot do hard things they can do simple things and most of the time they don't let their self get in the way of it they don't let their emotions get in the way of what they're trying to accomplish they don't let their feelings cloud the issue they are very capable at doing very simple things and the bible says that childlike faith is an essential which means faith is not hard but our carnal mind gets in the way the bible says your carnal mind is at enmity with god which very simply stated means this that prayer is not a head thing prayer is a faith thing and prayer is a holy thing when you pray in faith you have power that's a mathematical equation you should write down prayer plus faith equals it equals power to heal go read james chapter five the prayer of faith will save the sick and the lord will raise him up not only does it have power to heal but it has power to forgive because again in james chapter 5 it tells us very clearly that whenever you pray the prayer of faith not only will the lord raise you up but if he has committed any sins they'll not be they will be forgiven of him james chapter 5 is so poignant that it goes to give us an example in the nature of elijah it says elijah's a man like us he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and it did not rain and then it says he prayed again and it began to rain prayer gives you power to win go read ephesians chapter 6 and verse 18 where paul describes the armor of god and for all of the things he says about the armor one of the things that he says at the end of this chapter is praying always the helmet the sword the shield the breastplate the feet the belt none of it matters if you are not praying always not only does it give you the power to win in your spiritual battles but it gives us power for deliverance there's a story in the new testament of jesus christ when he went into a house where the disciples were working to deliver a child who was severely demon possessed jesus walked in and he spoke to the demon and the young lady was delivered and the disciples asked how did you do this and he said these kind do not come out but by fasting and prayer that's a very powerful statement because he didn't look at them and say this came out because i'm jesus christ and you're not i'm the son of god and you can never be me what he said was if you do what i do you can do what i've done if you fast and you pray you can have the same kind of power you don't have to be a superhero to see god's power manifested in your life but you do have to be a prayer warrior i want to bring our time to conclusion by letting you know that god honors those who pray god honors principles he does not honor people god will honor you when you pray for your family god will honor you when you pray for your nation god will honor you when you pray in faith believing that what you ask for in jesus name you will receive it i want to thank you for joining us for this sunday conversation and i want you to come back next week as we continue to
