nation or around the world i believe that you're here because the word of god is going to change your life last week we began the message the cure this morning i'm going to continue with that same thought and ask you the question are you curable you know each and every one of us have the same problem that problem is sin and for each and every one of our lives the cure is the same the bible says in psalms 1 07 verse 20 he sent his word and he healed them what i want you to ask yourself today is am i willing to receive the cure that god has sent the bible has much to say about those who hear the word and do the word and today we're going to apply the word of god no matter where you're watching from as we enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise i want you to join us holy name let's go before the lord in prayer today heavenly father today we gather in your house so that we might be in your presence for your word has promised that in your presence is the fullness of joy for every life that is in this room and for all those who are watching today i pray that they would experience the joy of your touch the joy of your healing the joy of your power manifested in their life that as they watch and they hear and they receive the word today that every mountain would be moved every chain would be broken every hindrance would be bound every enemy would be defeated every need would be met every promise would be fulfilled because that's the kind of god we serve today we rejoice in the joy of our salvation knowing that if you are for us nothing can stand against us and no one can oppose us so let your presence fill this house let your joy fill our hearts and let this day your people magnify and bless your matchless name in jesus name we pray and ask and all amen david said he's the lord that healeth of all our diseases he is the great physician and we receive the divine and supernatural touch now of that great physician for every partner for every church member that we may be set free from sickness and disease in the authority of your name we pray and ask it and all of god's children said amen amen amen so next week is thanksgiving sunday yes indeed and thanksgiving is not just a day for a child of god it is a choice for a child of god on a daily basis amen what is it that you're going to share with us next sunday next sunday i'm going to share a bible presentation of what thanksgiving really is this is not squanto and the pilgrims at plymouth rock this is god's portrait of what thanksgiving happens to be first understand that thanksgiving is a choice in america we have made it a spurt it's the 24th it's the thursday it's turkey on the table oh god wants to talk to the turkeys around the table [Laughter] and there we begin the thanksgiving and you that thanksgiving is required to release the supernatural power of god we're going to talk about that the bible says and give him the glory who is him him is god the father god the father has 12 names in the scripture i'm going to rip through those in about two minutes and give you just a real snapshot of the supernatural horsepower you have when you start praising god many say we're doing it but brother when you do it it turns loose all of the supernatural energy of heaven and then thirdly thanksgiving is a choice it's something you decide to do you can be thankful or you can become a grouch and some of your relatives fit in that group now i'll tell you how serious that is to god god says i am going to come and i'm going to cast those who murmur you know what murmur is in street language in texas grouch complainer whiner i'm going to bring judgment to the murmurers god is really sensitive about you giving praise to anyone but him when he does supernatural things in your presence we're going to come and we're going to turn loose the supernatural power of god next sunday morning in this building i want you to come one of the things that turns the supernatural power of god loose in your life is when you give and today we're here to receive the offering because the bible tells us give and it shall be given unto you pressed down shaken together and running over and i want to thank each and every one of you who have faithfully given each and every week as you've watched across the nation and i want to thank each and every one of you here in this sanctuary who give oh of the kingdoms [Music] [Music] [Music] everything [Music] something's wrong when we live in a world where the truth has become a lie and a lie is now considered truth when the hunger for life liberty and the pursuit of happiness gets hijacked by individuals who want power and control when it doesn't take a lot of effort to fill the streets with protesters but you have to beg and plead to fill a church with prayer warriors when we can murder unborn children and call it health care everybody agrees something's wrong but when we decide that it we want to describe the cause and we want to assign the cure nobody knows what to do how do we change it the cure it's totally free it's been paid for by the only begotten son of god he made certain that no matter who you were no matter where you came from no matter where you'd been if you needed him you could find him this cure is 100 effective this cure conquers darkness because it is filled with the glorious light of jesus christ because the word describes it this way though your sins were scarlet they shall be white as snow is our world sick yes do we have an infection yes what is the infection called sin but i have the cure for sin today his name is jesus christ and he is the way he is the truth and he is the life [Applause] if you would please stand for the reading of god's word and if you brought your bibles turn them to the book of luke the sixth chapter as we continue with the message topic the cure and ask this question are you curable because while we know the cause and last week we discussed the cure there are people who are in this room and there's those who are watching over television that regardless of how effective the cure is in your current state of mind and in your current lifestyle you are uncurable and jesus himself said so let's read it together in luke the sixth chapter and the 46th verse if you're there say amen but why do you call me lord lord and do not do the things which i say whoever comes to me and hears my sayings and does them i'll show you whom he is like he is like a man who's building a house who dug deep say that with me who dug deep and he laid the foundation on the rock and when the flood arose the stream beat vehemently against the house that it could not shake it for it was founded on the rock but he who heard and did nothing say did nothing he's like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation against which the stream beat vehemently and immediately it fell and the ruin of that house was great heavenly father let us hear your word today spoken by your son and let us understand that in order for the word of god to work in our life we have to hear it and do it in jesus name we pray amen you may be seated one of the challenges that we have in the world that we live is that we love to discuss symptoms how many of you have been asked if you're showing any symptoms lately and the answer is yes because in the world we live in breathing is a symptom if you're alive you've got something these days you just can't be strange you've got to have a diagnosis back in the day when you say just leave that one alone now it's like oh it's not his fault he's got blah blah blah blah blah blah eight latin syllables strung together that nobody's ever heard about and apparently it gives him permission to go in a store and rob something but it's not his fault you ever lived in a world where everyone has a reason but nobody takes responsibility that's the world we're living in i've given people the opportunity to have this test in their own life and i encourage you to go home and do it today pick up the remote control turn on the television and watch just the advertisement don't mute the commercial listen to the commercial because what you're watching is people happily walking through a field of flowers and you might think oh that's a nice life but when you listen to the words that they're putting with this picture the words are saying things like do you wish that your toenails were as strong as they used to be has the hair on your legs fallen out or gotten thinner as you've aged you need to take domeximex and megahidron number five and apparently there's places in the world where they put bathtubs on clifftops and you can take a bath on a cliff i've never been there but i've seen it on television and if you take that pill you can take that bath on top of that cliff and while you're looking at people who seem to be relaxed bathing in public this other voice jumps into the conversation and says something at the speed of an auctioneer on methamphetamines many of the people who took this pill had liver failure kidney failure eyeballs if you experience any of these symptoms call your doctor immediately and the reason that we're so addicted to this is because we love treating symptoms we don't like discussing the cause here in the word of god we understand that there is a cause for the problem jesus said in luke chapter 6 whoever hears these words and does them and whoever hears these words and does not do them he was talking about the same group of people with two different responses and there's always two different responses to those who hear the word of god they hear it and one group of people decides that they're going to do something about it and the other group of people chooses not to do something about it and whenever they choose not to do what the word of god says to do they inflict upon themselves pain and they afflict upon themselves consequences and they afflict upon themselves the the seeds that they've sown and they reap that reward and then whenever they're in the process of suffering from their own stupidity they ask why you you heard it and you didn't do it jesus gave us a building seminar in luke chapter six and in matthew chapter seven and in both cases he said that there were two builders one was wise and the other was foolish now the thing about these two builders is that you couldn't distinguish which one was wise and which one was foolish right at the beginning because they could both build they both built houses that were able to be seen as appreciated and valued standing next to each other looked exactly the same very successful but the difference arrived in their life when the weather changed because the bible says in both cases and when the storm came say that with me and when the storm came you need to understand something about the life that we live in it is not a matter of if the storm is coming it's a matter of when the storm comes one of the challenges that we face as christians is something that we've applied to ourselves which means that we don't ever think we should go through difficult times wrong as a child of god we're going to go through the storm we're going to go through the flood we're going to go through the fire the difference is not the weather on the outside the difference is who's on our inside jesus said when you go through the fire it will not burn you when you walk through the flood it will not drown you when you walk through that valley i will be with you when the storm comes i'm the one who's riding on the wings and the winds so don't worry about the storm make sure that you have the right resource when the storm comes the bible says when the storm came the wise builder his house stood it wasn't that his walls didn't shake it wasn't that he lost a few shingles it wasn't that maybe a glass or two cracked in the window pane but at the end of the weather the the house was still there i don't mind going through some stuff i just don't want to get swept away now the guy who didn't build properly when the storm came the bible says his house fell immediately now here's the problem with this story when we make it about the wise builder and the foolish builder we decide that one was lucky and the other was unlucky oh that wise guy man he gets all the breaks everything he touches turns to gold i don't know how he always winds up so successful have you ever heard people have those kinds of conversations about people that they know man he was just born under a golden sky and then the unwise builder we say things like he was just born under a dark cloud everything he does falls to pieces and we begin to just justify and reason within ourselves that god chooses some people for good things and other people for bad things but that's not true he's no respecter of persons he is a god who keeps promises and honors principles so what's the problem between the wise and the foolish builder the problem is not one is lucky and fortunate and the other is unfortunate the problem is they both heard the word one heard it and did it the other heard it and said well we'll see now if you go back to the psalm that we looked at last week psalm 107 verse 20 it says he sent his word and he healed them that's the cure but then a few verses later it tells us about the cause in verse 17 it says here's the cause of the problem fools say that with me fools say it like you no one see you got better right there you thought about somebody and you said it like you meant it he sent his word and he healed them but fools fools transgressed because of their iniquities they were afflicted last week we looked at this psalm and we saw that fools wandered in the wilderness we looked at this psalm and we recognize that fools rebelled against god that fools argued against the knowledge of the most high what are fools the bible says that the fool has said in his heart there is no god the bible also lets us know that fools are the ones who make a mock of sin fools are the kind of people that they come to church they hear the word and they just decide not to do the word if the fool is set in his heart there is no god what's the difference between the guy who says there's no god and the one who lives like there is no god there's a cure it's his word there's a cause and the cause is foolishness and that foolishness is sin for james the fourth chapter the 17th verse says to him who knows to do right and does it not to him it is sin i get in conversations with people all the time where they want to discuss the topic of sin and sin is not a difficult topic sin is very simple if you know to do right and you don't do it it's sin well pastor what if it's sin but then there it's sin believe me one thing i learned in seminary is if i always say it's a sin 95 of the time i'm right because it's very simple if you know better and don't do better guess what it's see y'all about to get ordained psalms 120 verse 4 they wandered in the wilderness that's sin why is wandering in the wilderness sin because the bible says the lord is our shepherd if he's our shepherd then we're supposed to be following him if we're supposed to be following him what are you doing wandering around by yourself isaiah 53 says this way he says we like sheep have gone astray we've turned each to his own way and the lord laid on him the iniquity of us all all of us have this iniquity and that iniquity is the idea that we can do it by ourselves it's borne into us as soon as your children learn to talk one of the what what's one of the first things they learned to say no and then the next thing is i do it by myself i do it by myself and when they're little we applaud this oh yes you can baby you can do it by yourself drive that car yes the problem is is we don't recognize that this stubbornness is an attitude that says i don't need anybody's help and we applaud it when they're little but when we get old we say man you're acting just like your mom kimball comes to second service i'll change that i promise but the reality of it is is that we know we can't do it on our own but we just want to act like we can and according to james the fourth chapter where it's to him who knows to do right and does it not whenever you act like you can do it on your own and you know you can't do it without god guess what that kind of independence is sin why because jesus said apart from me you can do nothing you see sin resists god that's why psalms said these guys are fools because they're resisting what is irresistible we don't exist without god only a fool would pretend like he could sin resists everything that god wants to do in your life god wants to love you with a perfect love which casts out all fear sin resists the love of god so when you resist the love of god with the sin in your life do you know what you do you're afraid of what everybody thinks about you rather than embrace his perfect love that says i'm for you who can be against you with sin in your life you resist his love and then you're worried about what everybody else thinks the bible says in his presence is the fullness of joy sin resists his presence when sin is in your life you don't get the fullness of joy you may be in close proximity to god's presence but you don't receive his presence in your life every sunday of the world i see it all over this congregation and i know there's people who are watching there's those who walk into church and you can see the fullness of joy in every aspect of their being and then you see people who have less joy in their life sitting in church than other people do sitting in a jail cell why the resistance of sin that wandering in the wilderness that says i can do it all by myself jesus according to the new testament triumphed over powers and principalities of darkness sin will cause you to forfeit the victory that he's already won on your hat on your behalf paul said he shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory sin says i don't need god's provision it says he sent his word and he healed them in isaiah and in ii peter it says by his stripes we are healed sin resists the healing power of god in your life how many people are sick in their physical body because they're holding on to offenses and they're holding on to things that they should let go and forgiveness but sin will not let them let it go you see we can talk about the symptoms of sin all day long but there's only one cause for the problem and that cause is sin and when you make it that simple it's very easy to understand why the bible gives us one cure his word his word foolish people behave as if his word doesn't exist foolish people behave as if there's nothing that the word of god can provide for them foolish people say things like well i tried that well guess what if you tried it try it again foolish people read what the bible says and then they don't go out and do it they proclaim things that they don't possess have you ever met that guy who can promise and make the proclamation of everything that the bible says but then they don't go out and do anything about it he'll keep them in perfect peace whose mind has stayed on thee boom what was that hey captain peaceful you see they make the proclamation of joshua but they don't have the practice of joshua what's joshua's proclamation joshua 1 8 this book of the law shall not depart from your mouth but you shall observe to do it according to what is written in it and then you will have good success how many of you know somebody who wants the good success but they don't want to observe the law the bible says give and it shall be given unto you pastor can we talk about giving don't talk about me don't talk to me about giving talk to him he's the one who said give the bible says the prayers of the righteous avail to much the fool says why should i pray the bible says remember the sabbath and keep it holy the fool says what's the point in going to church proverbs 14 and 9 says the fool makes a mock of sin jesus said it this way whoever hears these words and does them is wise whoever hears them and doesn't i'll tell you who he's like he's like the foolish man who built his house upon the sand church there's only one cause for the problem that we have and that is when we know what god wants us to do and we don't do it the reason i chose luke chapter six for the reading this morning is because there's two very important statements that we read there it says whoever comes to me and hears these sayings he is like a man building a house who dug deep say that with me who dug deep what does that mean that means that the rock that your life has to be built upon is going to take a little effort to find it's going to take a little work to build that foundation you've got to dig down deep at certain points in your life and understand that it's going to take a little more effort than what you gave yesterday if what you want tomorrow is better than what you've got today guess what you've got to do dig deep so the wise man hears the word and he starts digging the foolish man hears the word and you know what he says to the guy who's digging why are you digging have you ever had somebody question why you do what you do why do you go to that church why do you read that bible why do you pray those prayers why do you always smile i'm sorry somebody ever gets mad at you for smiling the best thing to do is just smile bigger and the reality of what they're asking you is why are you digging why do you serve in that choir why do you usher at that church why do you help them with that bible study why do you do what you do it doesn't matter what the fool says to you you just keep digging why because when you dig down deep and you find that foundation when the storm comes your house will stand the same rain fell on both houses the same floods rose against both doors the same wind blew on both walls but when it came to the wise man's house who dug down deep the bible says his house stood why because he did the work before the reigns came every day you've got to do something to connect your life with jesus christ because without him you can do nothing but with him you can do all things the problem that we have as children of god is that we want jesus christ to be available but we don't want to be dependable what's the difference you see availability is there when i want it dependability has to be there because i can't live without it i depend upon my lungs take them out of my body is over but if my lungs were only available i wouldn't make it very long most of us have a crisis management relationship with jesus which is why we always find ourselves in crisis because we want him to be available to us we don't want to be dependent upon him jesus i want you when i need you but i don't want to have to serve and follow you every day that's not how this works jesus said whoever hears and does hears and does hears and what why because the only way you can receive this cure is if you do it the only way the word works in your life is if you do it the only way that you can overcome the world the flesh and the devil is if you apply it the only way that you can receive the healing is if you understand that that healing comes through the application of god's promises and sometimes that requires that you decide that you're not going to have an available relationship with jesus christ but you're going to have that dependent relationship with jesus christ we ask for a dependable god but he wants us to be dependent children that's why he said in all of your ways acknowledge me and i will direct your path one of the things that i've learned in this covet season is what jesus said very clearly when he taught his church to pray give us what this day our daily bread and one of the challenges that i face even moving forward is this conversation that we have what are we going to be doing next year if i'm praying that daily bread prayer i see god's hand moving next year but i'm believing for this day why because to think anything else would mean that i'm depending on me and not him i can't say god i want you to be available to me tomorrow but i don't want you in my life today i've got to depend upon him each and every hour i depend on god to give all of the promises in his word but in order for those promises to become a reality i have to hear his word and do his word the word of the lord is a lamp unto your feet and it is a light unto your path and the problem is is that sometimes we want to take god's word and use it like it's a three million candle lit spotlight we wanted to highlight everything for the next five miles that's not what david said he said it's a lamp unto your feet what david was discussing was an oil lamp which is how people in his time would utilize oil in a little vessel and they would light it and they'd have a little flame on the end of it not five million candles worth just a little flicker of light and when he said it's a lamp unto my feet what he was saying is the same way that i use that oil lamp when i'm walking through the darkness of night i have to use god's word like a little lamp that i can put right down here in front of my feet so that i can see it and then do it and see it and do it i would love to pick up this bible read one verse and see what's going to happen for the next six months but that's not the way it works this is a lamp unto my feet this is not a hollywood spotlight that i can flick the switch on and it lights up everything for a half mile which means that today i have to open up his word and i have to read it and i have to do it and tomorrow i have to read it and i have to do it and tuesday i have to read it and i have to do it and wednesday i have to read it and i have to do it and thursday i have to read it and i have to do it and you say well pastor pastor you don't understand my life is complicated your life is complicated because you're not applying the cure [Applause] but you don't understand the doctor told me dr jesus said read it and do it you understand the boss told me i assure you your boss has a boss and he said read it and do it but you don't understand my my family history the family history believe me you get into this book there's all kinds of family history going on in this book and it doesn't matter what's in your past you've got to read it and do it and the problem that we have with reading it and doing it is that it doesn't show up on time how many have you ever suffered from that problem i asked god for it at first service how come it's not here at 6 30. church there is no amazon prime app for god's promises you can't click submit and then track it it's moving around mars and it'll be here next month oh it got held up by powers and principalities don't work like that that's why this is a daily bread thing that's why this is a read it and do it kind of relationship that's why the difference between the guy who stands the test of time and the guy who falls flat on his face is the guy that said i'm going to dig down deep i'm going to do what he asked me to do why because hebrews 10 and 23 says this hold fast hold fast to your profession of faith hold fast to your hope without wavering and my favorite part of this verse because he who promised you is faithful he who promised you is what faithful now this promise comes in an interesting place in the bible it's in the book of hebrews and the book of hebrews was written written to new testament believers who came from the jewish tradition so throughout the book of hebrews there's lots of things that are typed in shadows in the old testament and in the book of hebrews it speaks specifically about the promises that god made to abraham now it's interesting because that's somewhat of a paradox to me god makes a promise to abraham he says abraham i'm going to make you the father of many nations and abraham is a hundred and don't even have grandkids now when you're a hundred and you ain't got grandkids guess what you're behind but god promised him i'm going to make you a father of many nations god promised him he said abraham get away from your family get away from your father get away from your home and i'm going to take you and i'm going to show you a city whose builder and maker is god now that sounds really easy when you read it in 2020 and you think that abraham dwelt in a tent but you have to understand that abraham didn't dwell in the tent abraham dwelt in the most civilized and forward-thinking city in his time it would be easy to believe that god was going to show you a city if you slept in a car with nothing but bumper stickers on it but that's not where abraham hung out abraham had the penthouse on madison avenue and god said get away from central park and i'm going to take you out here to poteet now no offense to people in poteet but it ain't central park god made him a promise and you know what that promise still hasn't been delivered abraham's been dead for 4 000 years in our context he hadn't been down here on this earth for 4 000 years and god still had a promise for him that he would show him a city whose builder and maker was who god now when do we get to see that city whose builder and maker is god revelation 21 john the revelator said these words he said and i saw the heavens open and a city whose builder and maker was who god and it said the one who sat upon the throne he looked at me and he said it is done now church that ought to make you shout right there why because not only are we satisfied that abraham who received this promise that he would see a city 4 000 years ago finally got his promise but it makes me shout for this one reason alone if in revelation 21 the bible says it is done then that means right here in 2020 it ain't over yet it ain't over yet i don't have to worry about what they say about the economy because god says in revelation 21 then it's going to be done which means today it ain't over yet it doesn't matter what they said about the situation that we're facing in the next few months because the god that we serve he's the god of yesterday today and forever and he told me in his word it ain't over yet and it doesn't really matter what you're walking through today you might feel like it's over your friends might have given up on you everyone may have walked away from you but god sent me here to sanctuary today to tell you it's not over yet so you don't have to worry about what's coming your way because the one who has promised you he is faithful church he is faithful in the big things he is faithful in the little things he is faithful in everything he's faithful every morning when the son comes up to renew his mercies he's faithful every night when you go to sleep to put his angels in charge of you he's faithful with every breath that you breathe because in him we live and we move and we have our being he's faithful with every bite of food that you take into your body because he has fearfully and wonderfully created you he's faithful to meet every need he's faithful to move every mountain he's faithful to calm every storm he's faithful to wake you up every morning he's faithful to watch over you all day long our god he is faithful give the lord a handclap of [Music] praise would you stand to your feet [Applause] church it doesn't really matter how much of the word you hear it doesn't really matter how you respond to the words you hear you sit and listen quietly you can stand up and shout what matters is what you do with the word when you leave here because he sent his word and he healed them the cure is available the question is are you going to do what his word has asked you to do today as we leave this sanctuary i want the word of god to become a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path open it on a daily basis read it and do it because i promise you the god that is in this book is a faithful god and he will not fail you lift your hands and let me pray for you before we leave here today heavenly father i ask that your word would indeed be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path i ask that your goodness your mercy and your grace would be upon each and every one of our lives and today as we leave this sanctuary let us understand what you have called us to do to hear your word and obey your word to receive your truth and apply it in our life let this church be filled with people who have a hunger and thirst for the living bread of god and let your promises come to pass in each and every one of us let your promises of provision be upon every business man let your promises of peace be upon every father and every husband and every wife let your promises of protection be upon every family and every physical body let your favor surround us like a shield because when we hear your word and we do your word you said your goodness your mercy and your grace would overtake us and we receive that today in jesus mighty name now father bless them and keep them and make your face to shine upon them be gracious unto them and give them your peace to all of god's children said praise the lord give the lord a handclap of praise god bless you we'll see you
