I feel like we're out in a jungle you know what look down there look at the leaves in the tree this reminds me of the original King Kong movie you know what I mean we're in the jungle yeah we're we're out there just like that [Music] one thing about these Mountain job sites is space is at a premium like flat space I'm talking about the parking area is tight when you have a bunch of vehicles and the area where the house has to go is just barely big enough for the house we designed it a little smaller at first but it didn't have everything the homeowner wanted in it so we pushed it out and and today we're going to make sure we can get it on Solid Ground foreign [Music] what we realized pretty quickly was that this house was just about as wide as the solid ground that we had on this Ridge so we kept having these footings that ended up off the Ridge and we kept having to go back and forth trying to get it just perfectly centered after about an hour of adjusting and moving the house this way a little then that way a little we finally decided we had it as good as we could get it even though there was still a couple footings that were way off the side for the deck and very questionable [Music] straight and then you remarked it yeah and then raid through dirt all over it again yeah we saved our most questionable footing for last and indeed this thing was on fill dirt and a lot of it you can see by Jason's probing here it's not very solid foreign [Music] with a little bit of time still left in the day we reset our laser and we reset the reader for our laser on the grade stick to reference the top height of where we wanted the footings to be so we could set the grade Stakes 5 8 down [Music] zero eights congratulations [Music] today's project is to put this number five Steel in the footings this 5 8 3 bar will reinforce the concrete footings foreign [Music] we also dug this trench below the level of the footings so that we could install a sewer sleeve which is just a piece of pipe that will run the sewer line through later [Music] the next morning started early at five in the morning I had to get down to Bryson City and prep some j-bars for our concrete pour which they like to pour concrete early in the morning if you didn't know [Music] [Applause] get some coffee coffee we'll see [Music] so getting a concrete delivery out here or any kind of delivery for that matter is a pretty big deal this concrete truck had to travel about an hour and then back in about a mile because there's nowhere to turn around on this site [Music] we also had to hire a concrete pumper to get the concrete from the upper level of the site down here to the footings and otherwise there's really no way to get it down here besides a wheelbarrow foreign [Music] crew did a great job at filling the footings right to the top of our grade pegs to start with saved us a lot of work and it was really worth hiring them [Music] [Music] it's right on it 44 4 and 7 8 we let the concrete cure just enough to get out on it then we marked all the corners of the house back on the concrete we also set up these lead poles that will help us to lay the block a lot faster [Music] I made my delivery of water and a mixer so now I can actually go back to work in town where I'm working I hope these guys can you know not screw up everything while I'm gone for a little bit just a couple days probably but I don't know I'm a little worried foreign [Music] Cornerstone here it goes [Music] foreign [Music] to get these things to kind of sit down level just give a little Pat like this put the sitter in there then just see how that just sets down it levels out I don't know why that works so good the Pat just a little that's all you gotta do you should patent that oh Patton the pat there we go now here we go now I did my dad yeah it's not so much here that it hurts it's like right there is flaring up it's flaring that's huge oh look at that I just oh gosh that's old old manitis I think it's called it's a little tip bub yeah use the tip of the trowel it works better so if you put the tip on the wall first and then slide down it works better yeah all right tip it down straight down now you know what I'd rather be a roof okay all right tip it down there you go that's way better way better let's demonstrate the old Ray what was your old move uh just something like this yeah see that's garbage well that's gold that's gold all right everybody you got this don't do what I did you know I mean garbage in like the most respectful nicest kind of way garbage like clean nice it's not smelly garbage I'm like recycling yeah that was recycling okay still sucked but it was good sucked [Music] we're almost done and I still got it so oh you haven't dropped it yet not yet here's more rows at least not on camera I really like this one too so I hope it doesn't go down the hole gamers I like it I hope I get to keep it I gave it to him because he stole my good one foreign [Music] work laying this basement wall up in the woods this step of the process was done we are ready to move on to the next one so remember last week with the wheelbarrow and everything Spilled Out when you tipped it over yeah I was trying to forget that yeah well you know we don't forget things we got you something here it's a wheelbarrow with training wheels it's a double Tire wheelbarrow [Music] [Laughter] [Music] so our first real project of the day like paying project was to get a coat of Stucco put on this wall and since we still don't have running water on the job we used the pump sprayer to dampen the wall before applying the stucco [Music] this base coat of Stucco is what I would call a parge coat its main purpose is to help waterproof the wall and keep the basement dry it's not really for looks if you want it to really look great you'd have to do a second coat over top of this look at this truck I know I know Ray shows up and he's in a new truck look at you already leaning on this truck like you're doing it it's like a freaking commercial right here up next we got going with our slab Plumbing which is actually the plumbing under the slab which is all drain lines so that this place can gravity drain down to the septic tank the water supply for this house will be coming underground from about 40 feet away from a well and we need it to go through this basement wall we need to knock a hole in it now before it's poured solid in concrete and put a sleeve for the one inch water line that will run through later after that we were Off to the Races digging a nice sloped trench for our main water line to run down and out of the house is that all you guys done dude I don't trade you jobs in two seconds bro I'm not gonna have this house already you've got like six inches it's rock it's solid rock rock rock rock oh my God [Music] we decided to go with a floor drain in the mechanical room for any condensate from the heat and air unit this requires a P-trap which had to be chiseled down into the soft rock with the claw of a hammer we kept making our way down the line making sure that each section of pipe had the proper amount of fall and at a certain point I realized we had not done near enough digging down near the outlet of this system and it was back to digging again foreign [Music] it sucks whatever it is don't give a crap what you call it [Music] good day fellas yeah man I'm glad we're not plumbers all the time morning fellas how are you so we're gonna run this bobcat in a minute I can't help but notice Ray where you parked your new truck is like such an untrusting location of me driving this thing like tight to the very edge [Music] John Hampton thank you he came through again yeah we're gonna shovel this right did you know that Ray I just sat in here for at least five minutes looking for the key yeah I was watching you before I looked up it's up here there's gauges and stuff up here oh oh my gosh I'm an idiot all right now we can do it foreign [Music] was to add four inches of this wash stone nice and even that'll give us a nice level base for our slab and also just eat up some of this space we don't have to do such a thick slab that it costs a ton of money what's what's Jason doing here looking for church I mean I knew it wouldn't take long dude you know I've been talking about a truck for a year now oh you've been talking bills y'all okay our blueprints called for a load-bearing wall down the center of our structure that beared on the slab and also some other load bearing points so we had to remove some of the gravel in these areas to make our slab thicker like a full eight inches thick the same as our footings so that they could bear those loads and not crack the slab with our gravel removed we could go ahead and set the grade pins for our slab and we're setting these six pins with a laser level in a grid type fashion and we'll be able to use a screenboard that is longer than nine feet to reach across two of these or one of these to a wall surface and level the concrete using a screenboard after a quick break we got to putting this vertical Steel in the wall this is 5 8 rebar we're cutting these sticks nine feet long and they're going to be every two feet down the length of each of these walls and I am lining them up on the J bars that come out every four feet out of the footings as well [Music] with our Steel in the wall we had everything ready to pour the wall and pour the slab and the concrete truck drivers knew what they were getting into this time a short five days later we were able to get back at it as I was able to secure concrete a concrete pumper and a power trowel all on the same day [Music] and while I was still in route Jamie and the guys finished the slab prep by installing this six mil Vapor Barrier across the top of our gravel it's always tricky getting this plastic cut just right on the pipes isn't it this thick layer of plastic will prevent moisture or water from wicking up from the ground into our concrete slab which is part of our living space and that is code around here we also wrapped around any of these pipes that will go through the slab in this foam sill sealer to basically keep the concrete from sticking to the pipes and to give them a little wiggle room for the slab to move [Music] with everything up and running we poured the wall first and we generally do this first because we don't want to drop any concrete Off the Wall onto a freshly poured slab and mess up our finish I like this this man hey you like these that's another use for this what is that is that just oh it's uh it's some uh balloon and some grip tape man they're so comfortable keep the concrete off you I mean I don't know why you would do anything different [Music] in addition to using our grade pins our other reference for height is the top of our first row of block which is also the same height as the top of our header block and that's what we put the concrete to around the whole outside edge here for me doing concrete work can be super stressful and it's mainly about ordering the right amount you can't save concrete for later if you order too much and if you don't order enough you can't finish in this case we needed just more than two truckloads and a truckload can only be about eight and a half yards due to the slope of our Hill so I had to make the call whether to order three or four hundred dollars more just in case we run out [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] all the stress was for this all calculating all the figurine and wondering if we should order a second truck or not good thing we did we needed this much it'd have been hard to rake it uh rank it down to make that filling you know [Music] working after getting a jump on this first section we had poor that was starting to cure before the rest of it I had to back my way back off the slab covering my tracks as I went so that when I got the trowing machine out I wouldn't have a real mess to deal with the wizard Arlo says if you throw a pebble and it bounces and unstick that we're ready to get out on it oh it bounced look where you're going how's it going I've seen things like this go bad before so this is where it goes I got it bro I got it [Music] once the slab was cured enough I got out on it with the power trowel and my special wide bottom shoes for walking on semi-cured concrete and I started with a very low blade speed and a very flat blade angle and then as the concrete got harder and harder I turned up the speed turned up the blade angle to get a nice smooth hard finish on it all right good day man are we done yeah we're done just like that yeah oh man framing tomorrow um yeah good day thanks Bob see you in the morning all right what time you gonna be here about 12. yeah see after letting our concrete slab cure overnight we were back the next morning to start framing the rest of the daylighted basement walls and these walls will have no backfill on them we're just matching the height of our masonry wall here with these walls and that's about eight foot eight [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] it was really fun to finally be framing on this project because it goes so much faster than doing the masonry part it only took us about one morning to frame these three walls [Music] with the exterior walls completed it was time to prep to cut some control joints in this slab before framing the inside walls turn the engine switch on now that's why I smell gas all right oh yeah one thing most people don't realize about concrete is that it usually cracks somewhere and what we're doing here is cutting a weak spot in a straight line and hopefully the concrete when it cracks will crack in this weekend spot and crack in a nice straight line so it doesn't look bad [Music] it's melted yeah we need to have you record than that oh my gosh how long we got rain man got eight minutes you know you said that earlier look look look you literally right this time [Music] and in spite of all that effort I spent to try and make these walls flat on top when I went to sight them to add the double top plate there were still some humps up and down so I had to drive some of these nails deep so that I could run a power planer to take off the humps and just really make sure this thing's flat on top so that the floor system that will sit on top of it will also be nice and flat [Music] here's a great trick I learned from somebody to get these plates aligned it's way out here and you can't reach it with two hands really you can do a side shot like a toenail and it'll usually pull the top plate over and line them see if I can do it for a shot here yep so you can see that flushed it up and now I can nail the top [Music] foreign [Laughter] thought you were a hiker [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] everybody out just look at something and go hmm at that point everybody's like what what what oh show you guys how not to do stuff sometimes I had these washers in my truck and I was thinking that if we use the washers on the end of the screws it'll hold the screw from sucking in and we can probably suck this together man I'm starting to think like Arlo sounds exactly what like Arlo just said right before you said that [Music] after all the floor joists were installed we installed these Rim boards or band boards and basically you just nail through these into the end of the floor joists and it keeps them all vertical and on the right layout so when you go to do the floor sheathing your joists are in the right place gonna be oh that ain't bad it wasn't bad to hit one one humpy yeah can you say humpy [Music] after eight days of hard work we had the floor system done and we were ready for the floor sheathing and stay tuned because we're going to take this thing up another floor and then up a super steep roof and it's gonna look amazing the next morning we were back with the floor sheathing after a slight debacle running through Arlo's wife's garden with his trailer which we borrowed to get the sheathing anyways this sheathing was super cool this is called advantech X Factor and this was new to us at the time and a new product that hadn't even been released so thank you to advantech for letting us check this out [Music] foreign this was the kind of day where it would start raining and then we'd think oh we should go home and then it would stop raining right as we're cleaning up and then it would start raining again as soon as we started working again if you've worked outside you've probably experienced the same type of thing but it was a long day but worthwhile we kept going we got the subfloor down are you counting how many you're eating though between my blood sugar is at 50. it don't matter right now [Laughter] these upstairs walls are framed much the same as the basement walls are and we actually try to build about the maximum length of wall that we can lift with our five or six guys on the site that day the wall sheathing can be applied either vertically or horizontally and in this case we're actually letting these pieces lap down below the windows so that they'll tie across to the floor system when it's nailed it will really hold the wall down to the floor system the reason the wall plate isn't sliding off the edge of the subfloor is that it is toenail to the subfloor and those Nails work as a hinge while you lift it these three windows will be facing the national park and the national forest so basically there will never be anything in this view which is awesome and this is the view looking out from where the living room is going to be pretty nice [Music] what I'm doing here is trying to figure out the best way to build this really tall Gable end wall if we build too much of it on the floor we probably won't be able to lift it but the more that we have to build up in the air off scaffolding the longer it's going to take so it was definitely worth some thought to figure that out after all the thinking and contemplating we finally decided to try to build the whole wall on the floor and then stand it up which I was super nervous like super scared I really didn't know if we could do it and it was really heavy really scary but we got it up and I was like super relieved like unbelievably happy that we stood it up and everybody was safe and it all worked here I am again what am I doing here I forgot some stuff every day you call me and I bring you all the stuff you forgot I know [Music] after getting our footings cleaned off a little bit it was time to find the exact location of the bottom of these posts so we could mount a post bracket to the footing hey you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world yeah [Music] thank you see an issue with one of these uh no not unless that tree's not dead yet we pulled a foot monster extra foot on it so this section we got eight foot eight between okay so is it edge to edge well it's Edge to Center to Center to Edge you know what you just said that's the way oh my god dude put me on the trust crew or whatever no I went off to post Malone post Malone crew [Music] thank you foreign [Music] walls now done we decided to go ahead and do the waterproofing membrane and the backfill on this basement wall so we didn't have a giant pit that was around the whole house we had to deal with we're using a waterproofing membrane here called bitcothane and you can apply it yourself it works pretty great come on we're trying to get to work you're seeing the uh evil Spider-Man uh black Spider-Man goop that covers them it's like that it is dude this thing is so hot look at this and we haven't even pushed on it no but look at that I mean that's it if you push on it that's it wow it's there you're done but it is about a thousand degrees out here so I wasn't expecting anything less it might be a slight exaggeration and if you're wondering this entire process took about two hours and it cost about 600 in materials what do you think about that I say Pro tip would be used somebody else's knife because yeah that's uh that's John it was nice so we're good there foreign [Music] Appalachian Trail so there's our pipe for a French drain and this thing's been sitting here for days and I didn't ever look at it closely so I should have that's not perforated so we just shuffled all the trucks and did all this stuff to do this French drain and I got the wrong piece of pipe out here so as we mentioned earlier Jason is is got poison ivy like to the 10th degree here uh part of the problem is he doesn't know what it looks like right yeah so we're gonna do a little class here this kind of looks the same to the untrained eye okay like uh like that kind of looks like that looks like that looks like ooh looks like that but that's poison ivy three leaves it's got this little clef on the leaf a lot of times it has a red stem uh there's some poison ivy a lot of times it's shiny like that there's a whole bunch of it right there so it looks kind of the same but it'll give you the worst rash what's the cleft the little clip of this little thing right here you guys have that yep so remember what that looks like Bob all right just double checking we did get the pipe with the holes in it this time good job quiz time yep is this poison ivy no all right sometimes it's really hard to hold the pipe tight against the uh the wall and it needs to be right against the wall so we just use these leftover blocks it's a perfect material to hold that in place because it's heavy and we can just fill it in with the gravel we can leave them it's not going to hurt anything so you can see there's blocks everywhere holding the pipe exactly where we want it so that you don't have to mess with the gravel getting in behind the pipe and pushing it away from the wall because that can happen if you're just trying to hold it sometimes there's just not a great way to do this you just got to shovel it but we're getting creative now Jason Jason had a great idea all right so uh let's check it out here so the bucket can't get the gravel all the way tight to the wall because of the way he's he's too close if he was so you know look at this here we go plywood wow that worked great exactly it did except I think I'm going deaf now that was so loud holy crap the final component to this French drain system is this Filter Fabric that will allow water to come through but not silt or mud after a quick inspection our first load of bat fill material arrived on this tandem axle dump truck and we're having to truck it in because we didn't have any on site this backfill material is from our local quarry a few miles away and it's a mix of gravel and dirt it should compact nicely and not put as much pressure on the wall as just dirt on there [Music] that's loud every time man I don't know how old Owen is but he retired about 10 years ago yeah he told me he did actually and uh dude I've never seen anybody come in and upload and get out faster than that he's going to he's probably already got the next load yeah and back on top I got to work putting the remaining five dump truck loads of backfill material in this hole and that was about two more loads than I thought it would take uh does someone else want to drive the tracko me I do I do oh look dear how much was the backfill well I'm not sure but uh I just paid him 1200 you know but I think he said that was just to cover all of his feeding tickets so uh we'll get the bill for the dirt later we're gonna do an A-frame style roof and because of that this wall plate is going to share the layout with a floor system and a roof system right now we have two different layouts 16 inches on Center for the floor and 24 inches on Center for the roof the floor system is going to get shifted over by three quarters of an inch every floor framing member so it'll stay on 16 Center yes but it'll all be shifted three quarters it will to prioritize where that raptor is going to hit what are all these rnfs mean maybe I'll explain it to you it'll take a minute while we still had this machine on site I decided to unload this yellow pine 8x8 off of Jamie's truck because it weighed about 250 pounds it has a thumb that allows you to clamp something between the bucket and the thumb and it was going great until I did not realize that when you rolled a bucket it doesn't roll the thumb with it at that point I dropped the post on the back of Arlo's trailer and I guess it's okay so good you got beers in my mouth [Music] here Arlo and Jamie are cutting the rim board to allow the Raptor to come down and contact the top of the wall plate this is the only location where our floor joists and our rafter ended up conflicting for the same space [Music] never mind middle fingers and bad already I don't know where this guy comes from Arlo buddy it's your time to shine we're after time we'll start cutting all right he's got he's got the diagram the Arlo diagram right there it shows you exactly what's going to happen exactly that's it about 50 times in a row did you already measure the bridge bridge beam yeah nothing against you Eric but I mean they're kind of pretty expensive bro don't worry I got it all right I would go two six six would you put it what'd you say it was 65 . that's all good I mean I go 266 but whatever 265 golly it's going over top of my truck please don't hit my truck okay there it is one LVL coming right up all right now y'all got to pull the bottom out a little bit there thank you [Music] foreign [Music] twice cut once one of these Raptors 108 dollars for one Raptor that's stressful I'm I'm stressed right now [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] next we took some measurements to make a temporary Ridge support that would support our ridge beam temporarily and this thing ended up being super long I think it was 21 and a half feet you can see from this angle how the porch roof will be an extension of the main roof line of the house giving it a large vaulted and Grand feel out here yeah have you noticed how tall this roof is just climb the Scout well we've been doing it this long I guess what what does it matter now I don't know after checking the diagonals of this deck we realized it needed to be pulled one way to make it Square so here we're using a chain which can apply a lot of force to do that tell me what you're doing because it looks like it's a little job site slack line so so they're pulling the top of the deck that way right yeah and that'll straighten out this last piece with the rest of the deck down there Jamie and jono were easily able to inflict enough force on this deck to Rack it back straight and then we added back some more diagonal bracing I think y'all should come on down actually yeah lightning in the area here here take the level okay yeah a couple couple in there yeah there's like 15 strikes [Music] I just like thread in the needle this post has to go out there let's cut it right foreign [Music] [Music] laughs foreign the last few of these Rafters our structure was starting to take its final shape which looked really awesome perched on this Ridge Top way out in the middle of nowhere in the mountains [Music] I'm feeling pretty good because after taking that out this thing did not drop not even 1 16 of an inch but just to be sure I'm gonna add these awesome angle brackets that I made with 40 nail holes each with a bunch of joist hanger nails foreign [Music] to get going with our roof sheathing we decided to go ahead and do this first row while we still have the scaffolding set up from when we did the fascia boards that made this a lot easier [Music] what do you got going on there this is my zip tape dispenser you know uh that reminds me of that dog the Saint Bernard oh yeah that has the the barrel right there yeah you come to rescue with your own zip tape roll if you ever do this you want to make sure you do it this way not the other way because then I'm pulling it up into my beard our next task for the day was to start working on the front porch which is simply a shed roof coming off of the main roof line and I'm not seeing these posts so that we can nail the girder or Bolt the girder through this Notch and have a really strong connection next jono and I went down the line installing these posts on the porch and we're bracing them plum in both directions with a small brace that'll hold them where they need to be until we get the girder and a few of the ceiling joists installed [Music] to determine the location where these porch Raptors would contact the main roof line Jamie cut a piece of wood the same pitch or the same angle as our rafter that we wanted which was a 312 then he leveled the top of that and that gave us the exact location of where these Rafters would hit our other roof [Music] to ensure a super strong connection we went back after each portrafter was installed and put a scab which is just a scrap piece of wood over the joint and nailed it with five Nails on each side and this works really well and didn't cost any money since this is all scrap foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] oh you got the little swing going this time foreign [Music] oh there you go [Music] there you go lay on foreign [Music] Moment of Truth oh 94 and a half and we want about two inches sticking up eight feet wow how about that that was completely on accident no rip and no strip every now and then you just get lucky I guess [Music] after cutting these rafter Tails perfectly straight Jamie was really happy about it he installed a fascia Ward perfectly straight and then was able to get the first row of sheathing going on perfectly straight which does make it easier going on up the roof if things are not crooked [Music] we have about a two inch wide Gap here and that's on purpose to let the air from the soffit vents actually flow out of the roof and allow hot air to escape but for now we're going to cover it with tape why are we doing that Ray so the water doesn't get in there that's right we don't want it to be like raining in here the whole time we're waiting you know for the shingles to get put on so we'll cover it temporarily now this kind of wide for a regular roll of zip tape but wearing luck what you got there Mega roll zip tape Mega is that what it's called that's what I'm gonna call it from now on Mega roll this is like I don't know eight inches wide [Music] what do you got for lunch there well I got some chicken salad today yeah look at that now it's pretty good like that but really what it needs hot sauce okay that it needs that much hot sauce [Music] [Applause] I think you're gonna need another bottle here we go perfect now that all the plywood is on the roof is on the exterior walls basically there is no need for our temporary diagonal bracing so we had diagonal braces on every part of this house that didn't have plywood holding everything Plum and vertical and in place while the plywood and the frame of the structure was being built we're going to remove all these braces we're going to take all that material and we're going to cut it up into different things that we need for uh other little wall you know segments they need built we've got some random framing blocking all that material is going to get used up somewhere in this house so here's the deal chug along let me give you a quick rundown about those that we got to build no don't care okay sweet all right well there are people that care there's people that care so I'm gonna oh you're telling them yeah no no not just you people all over the world that want to know about these walls and again Eric's not here to stop me from talking so guess what roll it let it rain all right so we're gonna build a little knee wall here this is going to block off the side of the stairwell and make a little attic space there we have a little door already framed it might get boxed down a little smaller but that's one thing there's that the height of the knee wall we'll call it is 54 inches from the sub four and we like to build those so that our handrail coming around here can butt into something vertical surface and not butt into the pitch of the slope of the bottom edge of the roof because it can get a little quirky five foot knee wall and then boom stop there stagger out because we got a bathroom in this end you're going to walk through the door right here where I'm standing door is going to open you know none of that exists now guys so we gotta build it we got it all right [Music] enter the bathroom got a nice tall wall here I want to point out we did some horizontal fire blocking here because this stud Bay is taller than 10 feet so you have to have a break for the uh air flow for fire code here we have the shower now this is going to be low on this on this bottom Edge once the plumber gets here we'll kind of work out the nitty-gritty of the details there and then I got some junk in the way here some ladders but basically there'll be a sink until it right there oh yeah we got muscles on on duty here 's the windows and just like everything that you order there's going to be something messed up I guarantee it cabinets Windows whatever something's going to be bent broken smashed and we got one window with a cracked piece of glass right there luckily though the guy said it's on the moving piece the uh the sash the uh the non-fix panel you know because if it was on the fixed panel uh to replace that it could have been a real pain yeah oh man I don't know a pain in the glass he thought I was gonna say it where I'm standing is the stairwell and look at this one floor two floor roof man it's it's a long way we've got three stringers these two are going against the the walls that's why they have a spacer the two by four the purpose of that is to space It Off the Wall so that drywall can slide in behind the Stringer without notching next we got a piece of plywood here three quarter plywood we're going to screw this across the top of all the stringers to hang it to the uh the ledge thing up there and then the PT 2x materials going on the bottom because it's going on concrete right so that's it so we're going to assemble this into one unit here and then we're just gonna go stick it in place foreign [Music] I'll check it out check it out I will foreign what's next well we got the Dormer here it's just crying out for some soft and fascia you know is it okay what are you doing up here okay we have a quirky little spot where it's gonna be really difficult to get a nail gun in here and by difficult I mean impossible what I'm going to do is I'm gonna put a bunch of XL between the two surfaces I'm going to shoot as far as I can up but then I'm gonna take some blocks I'm gonna wedge some blocks up under here and put screws in them through the roof to hold that piece up stuck into the Lexile and then it'll dry it'll be glued forever genius yeah hey be quiet we're working up here man oh they want the gun is that what you wanted there's 15 nail guns in the truck and they want 15 nail guns in the truck and they want this one the block here I'll hold it temporarily there we go here we go see it's a piece of cake anybody can do this [Music] okay Jason you're uh hooked into the scrotomizer 3000 see so you're looking at every piece of scaffolding that we own set up here there and there and uh that's what it's going to take to get this front fascia done [Music] after we got all these Outriggers in uh what we did is put a temporary Ridge in this little short guy with some finish nails so that we have something to measure to see how long this uh final fascia piece is because you can see there's there's no point on this OSB there's no point in here to measure to so that's helping us get this uh one shot easy to measure grab it I'll grab that thing I'm grabbing that thing as soon as we got this fascia board installed and I got a sight down it I could tell that something was was not good and what it was was that this outside Raptor had been nailed to the sheathing on top before being straightened so we had to pull all of the nails and then use a clamp to straighten the outside rafter pulling against the next rafter which was still nailed and then we could re-annale it once it was straight this whole ordeal only took about 15 minutes to fix and I think it was well worth it knowing that every bit of this is perfectly straight and it's going to look great forever yeah that was so slow wasn't it took us what three hours to put six boards up good you know what the good news is I just realized that my bike rack has got a bottle opener on it I never noticed that until right now seriously you got three bottles no I got nothing but hey it's there [Music] foreign [Music] I've never done a set of Windows like this where you had a big package of windows with weird shapes what's up Jonah just popped out of nowhere that it just worked out because there's always some factor that you didn't think of like the window wasn't the size it says was going to be [Applause] I think we need a bigger Sawzall blade [Music] [Applause] [Music] send it all right let's test it out and see if we dropped it enough for too much up all right yep and we will need to pack out the top as you can see all right let's get her centered up ready all right we've achieved what we're looking for here and I'm running this on the flange down to that other flange and you can see that basically it lines up now which is what we're looking for up next we got going installing this drainable house wrap by Benjamin Opdyke over our ZIP wall sheathing and you don't have to do this with zip sheathing the reason we're doing it is that we're going to be filming some installation videos with LP smartside in the coming days and they can't have their competitors logos on their own website so that's the reason foreign [Music] so we had a problem we had to solve we need to have a full row siding on the front of the house and we'd love to start with the four row sighting on the deck and so those two things were incongruent it wasn't going to work out and to remedy the problem we designed this band board that's taller than a standard band board okay so that standard was 11 and a quarter eleven and a quarter we stretched this out to 14 and a quarter so that we could have a full piece of siding here full piece of siding here and not only does it solve the problem it has to look good which I think this does and it will when it's painted this is a Monday morning kind of thing here where uh Jamie forgot the air compressor John is coming with the air compressor hey didn't he just say you just watch Back to the Future yesterday yeah this is what it's like after I just went back to the 40s now we're up and running hoses nail guns and uh I love this compressor I was gonna tell everybody it is very silent like I'm just talking normal voice here right next to this thing we got this from Northern Tool and Equipment love it so I finally broke down and bought some of these gecko siding clamps after using them at my friend Johnny Brooks's place and realizing how much they sped up the siding process they basically hold your piece of siding with the correct reveal and they actually just hold it in place for you so you don't have to hold it by hand while you nail it Jason actually said he would refuse to put siding up on this house unless I bought him was the other reason that's done that's painted and caulked oh my gosh that is like hear that Ray oh I hear it oh dude he was doing cartwheels this morning before he got to work well it comes with one what have you been doing up there bro you got that right down the shower look he'll peacock nice to make a battery operated nailer I don't know but this is one of the first times we've had hoses out here and uh man I'm telling you 'll hear me like this [Music] if we were really to get in deep about this flashing we could make a whole video for like 30 minutes at least just oh my gosh oh I could sit here and talk straight maybe we should I mean maybe we should just like on on a topic based video but for now we're just doing the really shortened up version you know basically everything has to lap like shingles everything has to wrap around the corners any like little tiny dot like um you know spots that aren't completely sealed up need sealant like little XL is what we use uh and that's about it you know just wrap everything think like water what would water do water wants to get in okay it really wants in bad even if there's just a tiny place to get in it will so you just really got to think like a roofer think like shingles and think like water [Music] my lovely assistant Jason is going to show oh Cedar grain LP expert finish panel that looks like shakes it's a shake panel so you've got either this toothed Edge uh which we're doing down or you can do this The Straight Edge down to give a more clean look you can go either way with that and it's got the half lap joints so that's all covered and uh that's that's what it looks like when you put it up since most of the panels installed on the sides of our Dormer would have an angle cut on the top or the bottom since it's two roof pitches we decided it would be fastest to actually bring our cut station up here on the roof with us and cut really close to where we're installing in case we needed to make any small adjustments as we go to keep the bottom edges of our shakes running nice and straight and to space them off the flashing evenly easily we use this spacer block as we went up to check everything as we went painted your hand oh really yeah oh no with the framing now done on our mountain cabin it was time for the subcontractors to come in that do specialized work like electrical heat and air plumbing and insulation and do their jobs we don't do those things because for the most part you need a special license but we have some great guys first team in here was the electrical Morgan's electrical and we've used them for years we even built Nathan's house so there's a real strong connection here in these local mountain communities with all the people we've worked with over the years they got going by marking all the locations of the switches and lights and receptacles throughout the entire house and then his team of guys will come and start drilling holes through all of our studs to start pulling wires to all those different locations and also back down to the electrical panel that's going to be in the basement meanwhile on the outside of the house Jamie and the Gang were installing this band board so that we could get going with the rest of the siding above it on this side of the house we just drove a couple of nails right here to hold a spacing off of the butt joints on these big band boards because it's heavy and kind of hard to handle when we get in here we can just bang it in tight to the spacer go ahead and shoot it we don't have to be kind of scrutinizing the gap size there it's already fixed and ready to go foreign [Music] here's the flashing made this back in the shop we me and you I'm giving you credit bro did you say we I did um just so listen to the playback oh my goodness guys yo what are you doing this thing's making noise leaking get off your wallet bro about trying to buy some new tools try to film here this thing keeps [Music] so I bent this one open with a razor knife and this one is crimped really tight uh shut on that hemmed up Edge now I can slide it down and I'm going to go for about four or five inches overlap [Music] what's going on here you might want to pack up I thought you were just complaining it was too hot no now it's cold and it's gonna rain it's too hot too cold too wet too dry too painy too coffee Jamie and I are breaking off from the siding for a second we're gonna do some more framing stuff kind of like punch list framing stuff like finishing framing because once they run wires through the framing electricians it's a lot harder to move it or add framing uh one thing we're doing is boxing down the ceiling up here so that they don't have to drill through the top plate with all of their home run wires that can just run them over top of the top plate that'll save some time and we're also making a nice perfect spot for the panel by moving some studs around we also need to finish these walls that divide the two stair stringers and the homeowner has requested to do sloped open walls not a solid wall not a solid wall this is going to get a little what's the word wackadoodle do uh tried to angulated trigger wrong tree um I don't know something like that it's gonna be it's gonna be something we actually don't even know what it's gonna look like till we build it so here goes nothing [Music] what have you all been doing this is all you've done no it goes all the way up and all the way down inside the house zigged when you shoot a zagged there bro you guys easier to frame it that way we don't need that in there but it was just easier actually it does do something it does stiffen it does you can't say that it's a it's a cantilever yeah see from from this point out to here it keeps this no it won't either put this straight down dude drywall is going to be on it because yeah but see this the way it comes out it actually keeps this from going side to side and that one from there to there and yeah it's reciprocal it is self bracing how's it going out here it's going good um John and I were talking about it you know they have companies you can hired and stuff yeah why don't we just hire somebody to do all this work I mean no right seriously up next we're going to install this French door and the reason we didn't install it before the siding was installed is because we didn't have it before that and we're gonna ditch the brick mold and use trim that matches the trim that's around the windows because I think it looks better one thing I always do before installation is double check that the subfloor underneath where the threshold of the door is going to go is actually flat if it's not it can cause the door to not shut properly and it's really hard to fix it once the door is installed since we tore the brick mold off Arlo added back a few positive stops to align the door flush with our sheathing you can usually just use the brick mold as this positive stop [Music] what we had to do after that was to remove some of this siding that we had already put up to make room for the door trim to go in and leave the correct reveal on the door jamb and this was a real hassle I would definitely prefer to put the door in before but it just happened this way we were able to get it done with a slew of different tools and Jigs and it turned out great foreign [Music] this is our Automotive impact wrench I'd call it it's corded it's got lots of power that's why we gave it to Jason it'll actually drive these in and it'll do it fast it's sort of like when you get your tires changed like in a NASCAR race just like that bud pop those in for sure [Music] [Music] number two we're gonna box this in this stuff is run below the ceiling in this bedroom and so there was no other place for this to go we're gonna box this in make a little chase after the fact yeah this is really common when you are not using four trusses which we're not we're not so we're just packing it in case the plumber wants to run a gas line through there he can just pop these down real easy construction Factor fiction what's our topic today uh our topic today is do you know why that these pencils are not round why they're flat I do not okay so my theory I saw it on Tick Tock my theory is this if it was round you would oh so it's safety safe safety thing so you can step on it without it rolling okay fact or fiction let us know what you think [Music] we can uh yeah okay Jamie's gonna Mark him there we go pretty remarkable way to do this I think uh and hey Jamie label them oh yeah yeah that's important one we got B what and then uh we got Roman numeral three Square yeah three c yeah Square all right good [Music] it is super important that these pieces of blocking for the handrail brackets are perfectly flush with the framing not recessed at all because what will happen is you'll suck your handrail bracket in tight with those big screws they come with it'll actually crush the drywall and make nail pops on your studs where your drywall is nailed how can I make you look this hard be going into a knot [Music] final thing for today because it's getting late is we're in a frame for this fireplace that's going to be here we need a Chase and uh it's gonna be in the corner and I just looked up the specs it's gonna have a hearth so we're just going to start putting it together we you mean all of us yeah back back off I'm doing the beauty shot so I was just going to show you guys this is my technique you gotta sneak up on it all right I'm going home [Music] got my trusty camera right here okay got some zip tape yeah and some electrical oh look at that oh yeah it's high tech right here all right well if you're wondering how we got that shot that's how we did it I hope I hit record foreign [Music] board put up and that's where our other decking will terminate we'll leave a small Gap there my lovely assistant Jason again to show us these hidden fasteners we're using and let's demonstrate how they hook into the actual material here there's a Groove and they go like like so they space the boards and they hold the boards down and I believe that's stainless steel [Music] we're about 10 rows in so we're getting in a Groove here we're starting at one end and working our way down instead of trying to get the whole board in at once right yeah it's important to get the Gap established right on the bus not that much about an eighth yeah I like that before you engage all the clips you should get your butt joint Gap established because if you don't then you get it all clipped in then you can't move it yeah these clips are actually hold the board a lot when you're trying to move it back so get that eighth inch Gap as recommended we're running the last row here against the house and we're going to use different Fasteners obviously you cannot do the hidden clip against the house so we're gonna try to get this slipped in face screw it just on the one side and that'll be it [Music] we're gonna try something new today I rated my kids pencil box Crayola white because you read their lunch box we're marking on these dark boards I can't see my pencil marks so we're going to do a little test run here check it out so I'm just making like a tick mark oh gosh look at that super Hive is so definitely gonna use the Crayola today nice good does it come off though so let's see if you rub it up let me get a little uh so yeah just a tick mark it does not come on leave that part of the video [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] with our decking now done it was time to install the finished materials on our porch ceilings [Music] we're having a big discussion now should we run the panels long ways this way and have a couple strips or should we run them this way four foot wide and just have you know strips that way what would Arlo do I don't know let me ask you this what would Arlo do [Music] to hit the highlights of this panel installation process it was pretty simple actually we're just giving ourselves a little room because there's going to be trim around the outside edges of this so we don't need to squeeze these panels in tight between the beam and the wall the hardest part actually was just transferring the locations for the can lights from our ceiling to these panels so they could be marked and cut out accurately and they need to be pretty tight the can trim does cover a little bit but not a lot [Music] oh it fits [Music] a bit over here I'll tell you what I'm not gonna do ray yeah hop down from this on my heel or on my foot it's got a little step on it yeah yeah he's on down you might you might think you know two feet is good but you never know not good why are you always pointing that thing at me I'm not I'm just checking out the view bubs look at the view after getting all the panels installed on this section we went ahead and ripped up some Batten strips that will cover all of the joints and also go around the entire perimeter to cover any Gap that there is there we decided to go with a width of one and a half inches on these battens after another bit of deliberation and this material is 3 8 of an inch thick so this will make a nice non-intrusive looking Batten which is what we want this lower easy part of the porch ceiling now finished it was time to focus our energy towards the really tall vaulted front porch is about 23 feet up to the Ridge and this was a whole different story as far as the speed and ease we could put the panels up foreign [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] foreign [Music] pressure treated posts which are super heavy unfortunately and they will bolt to the side of our rafter here and butt into each of these posts and then we'll have a custom metal gusset that goes across because these are going to be in tension so they won't pull from the post we installed these horizontal Timbers partly for looks but mostly for a structural reason we didn't want this roof line to spread and these big Timbers will act as a giant collar tie and keep the two sides of the roof tied together keep everything standing up vertical [Music] sometimes it's pretty sad when you come to work on Monday morning you know you think about all the stuff you got to do all week it's gonna be hot and not very fun but anyway just to get a little Monday morning satisfaction I'm starting out with the hand plane just to get my Monday started right you know what I mean I think you did yeah what do you need thank you with our collar tie now installed we could go ahead and finish up this port ceiling by installing the two panels that needed to notch around the ends of this collar tie we started by attaching a small nailer to the side of the collar tie at the pitch of the roof and then we were able to measure and Notch these final panels and install them [Music] and finally we were able to cover the whole perimeter and all of our seams with our Batten strips this part of the process was way more time consuming than I was expecting as high work often is we'd use a combination of scaffolding on Wheels in different size ladders to access the whole surface of both sides of the ceiling you ready [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I'm starting to put in the wood framework for this cable rail system and I'm starting by applying this two by six to the house because I have a cable termination against the house and the reason for the 2x6 is that the center line of this is really close to the edge of my corner board and I don't know how big my little attaching like brackets and turnbuckles are and there's a chance that they'll be like partially hanging off the corner board that could really be a problem [Music] foreign [Music] this is a perfect example of the out of square post right here it's about a quarter I'm just going to take my pencil here inscribe it I don't make any attempt really to measure the angles or anything like that I never do I just cut it a little long make the Scribe make the cut boom slam it in [Music] I'm gonna have this done just by yourself or I even get to help you yeah man you bet I don't know why you would get in the way of that let's go do something else I wonder why they call it the Smoky Mountains Jay yeah it's kind of weird up next Jason and I set in to get a coat of stain on all these posts and rails before we install the cables and that'll save us a lot of time and heartache we're using an oil-based semi-transparent stain and the color is chestnut it's a color from Sherwin-Williams and I really like using stain on these pressure treated posts because if you use paint it will just sit on the surface versus stain actually soaks into the material and won't flake off you want some goggles that's Monday isn't it oh my gosh wow that's pretty impressive see what I'm doing either perfect I can't see anything Mr homeowner if you're watching this I apologize I mean it looks perfect I could see it completely that's not everything [Music] Go baby go on top of that slick Mudbug oh we'll update here we're in a tropical storm that's why it's dark in there where we're filming yeah the other reason it's dark no power the power's out because trees around here just like fall down when it rains a lot so we got no hot lunch no lights and the road may be blocked by huge trees bring your chainsaw no me neither [Music] okay foreign [Music] anywhere you want solid blocking everywhere with most of the blocking now done inside the house and it's still pouring rain outside we decided to get into the installation of this fireplace this is a gas fireplace and we got it from efireplacestore.com we've ordered quite a few from there checking out all of our venting parts and this is going to be on the outside of the house somewhere foreign [Music] this is the system we're going to be using today by Haas stainless called the axis did you name that no I didn't it's a pretty ba name it is yeah it's pretty cool this is the tensioning end he's got a stop in right here stainless steel screws very slick and streamlined and it's going to look amazing yeah should should be easy supposed to be an easy that's that's important right there man that's the real important word it works for everybody this is what we're pre-drilling with for our anchoring screw which is a stainless steel trim head screw because stainless steel is a little more brittle is that is that what you'd call it I would say it's all it will snap so even though it's a small screw we're pre-drilling that's what jono's doing and uh it's very important [Music] foreign [Music] you need to hit the gym bud I don't know if it's just the camera yeah but uh 40 pounds here we go we got like he's more aerodynamic okay in the event of a bear nice to know he's gonna get eaten first yeah sure I'm getting eaten first yeah [Music] what's your job out here ah blowhole guy demonstrate please okay that's a pretty good name it's a very important job [Music] foreign [Music] 's using the clutch on his drill here said it number nine that seems to be about right that's a good idea for stainless by the way I think so you know hold still there you go I noticed you give that two swages is that normal yep yeah so you switch it once and then you're gonna swage it once and you rotate about 90 degrees okay swage it again okay because there's a lot of force on these from what I understand yeah it's actually for as small as it is they're really really strong so all right Patrick hit it Patrick what do you mean Patrick Patrick Swayze [Laughter] nobody puts baby in the corner [Music] foreign [Music] just like a banjo so if you do get a couple cables crossed up like like we did right here this was not staged that was not on purpose luckily we can go ahead and unscrew this from the termination swap them out yeah [Music] dude what are you doing I'm just staying in this it's going to cap that one Post in the corner Oh I thought Jamie was gonna make one exactly that's why I bought this for 15 at Lowe's so he didn't spend five days making one in the shop it would cost us 500 but it'd be so nice it would but look at this it's done and it cost fifteen dollars instead of 500. you know see pull up [Music] didn't the doctor say he only had to wear the boot like two weeks how long has it been Ray is this true no I can't walk for six weeks dude I saw him up walking around behind the truck without the boot just fine and then he puts it on and comes over here and acts all like he can't walk whatever I don't know [Music] foreign [Music] with the post now in their final position and plumbed we could go ahead and pour some concrete around the post and this is not to support the post vertically there's a footing underneath the post for that this is to support the post in the side to side and the front to back if someone were to grab a hold of this thing and pull on it yeah there we go get that get in well I drew a line but it's really best to check to make sure these are like perfectly like it doesn't rock or tip or nothing it's just they're all touching we're finally onto the decking and we're having a big debate again so you know the ends of these things look like a mustache these things yeah okay and so if we just hang that off an inch on these ends it's not going to look good no you'll see all the little thingies yeah but it's going to be a lot of work to do like a miter and a return and all the Locking on each step but I think that's what we're gonna have to do to make it look you know good that's gonna be a lot of work [Music] thank you [Music] oh that one's pretty freaking good [Music] [Applause] [Music] gotta have a bag a fresh bag clean bag see the thing is there's a lot of dust in that house all right and we don't want dust in the house all right so what we need to do is we need to extract it we need to eliminate it okay we need to exterminate it we need to maybe we should get some Dust Busters remember that little handheld vacuum the dustbusters yeah the little red one those are awesome so uh Step One is uh new bags and then we're gonna throw them away today we're gonna fill these up Chuck them [Music] what are you doing with the Sawzall this is my question why are you asking because we're painting today yeah let's see what happened is when they put this drywall in it crowded out way past um the stud there so I did instead of trying to just hit it with a knife or whatever it was just easier just to I see all right I'm gonna be putting you on safety patrol with Jason just kind of follow him around really what I do anyway [Music] here's a little Pro tip for you we're using two different kinds of vacuum attachments here this is just a regular one that comes with every vacuum you buy although I did modify it by drilling these holes and now lets some fresh air come in otherwise this thing has so much suction it'll actually just stick to the floor and you can't even move it so the pro tip is the holes not to using a vacuum's normal tips [Music] foreign [Music] yes sir foreign [Laughter] you want to grab that uh the vacuum we're gonna uh yes sir I can't probably bought four or five vacuums four or five guys this is like cleaning the dirtiest house you've ever seen kind of job yep we got it done before lunch with everybody here and now we're gonna Prime here we go good oh did you see that let's see what's in here see if there's any crud in there [Music] there we finally got it figured out here I think that is the problem with the trash that small piece of something whatever it was was in the intake of the machine where there's a ball that seals so that it can have suction no seal no suck okay excuse me [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] I wish I could wear glasses or goggles but it's just like instant a white out you know yeah so you just gotta take it like a man is it five o'clock yet foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you foreign it's some weird angle Jason has some weird angle hey it's about to happen though we're gonna get a two-man team here two-man team there jono and I two man team cutting try to blow it out like super fast I'm about to pop it out to finish the peak of the ceiling we're ripping these trim boards and we're ripping a 45 degree bevel on both sides that will match the roof pitch foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] I know this is crazy but I'm not even mad that he's using my hand plane on a rock right now am I can I what world are we living in I'm not even mad about it a world with fake rocks Jamie's having a few boards here this isn't code or anything but uh this is going to keep the insulation from wanting to fall out of here later which you won't be able to get back in there later so I would say that's important here's our backing boards up to the top of the Firebox uh this section and this is pretty common is going to have to be like a non-combustible like hearty backer board something like that right across the top of the Firebox [Music] the stonework on this Hearth could be done in a lot of different ways but we ended up with three huge pieces of stone big enough to cover the entire Hearth in three pieces if we cut them right so we decided to start with this largest piece and Center it up and we're using a street saw here to cut it to size after getting the front and back cut parallel we just used the t-square to Mark the two sides and cut them thank you on this one we had to chip off a little bit of extra thickness here so the stone would actually lay flat as we set it after we started checking out our last large piece of stone we realized it was about a half inch thicker than the other two we had already cut which was not going to work because it would look way out of place luckily we just happened to have our rotary hammer and straight chisel with us and that was able to knock off that half inch with a lot less work the front I don't trust I don't trust it [Music] [Applause] [Music] with all of our hearthstones now cut and fitted with simply a matter of sticking them down to the Hardy Backer board and making them level and we're using large format tile mortar here or thinset and we're using a lot more of it than you would on tile and that gives us a little extra wiggle room to get this stuff really flat hey chiseled Stone hey what I just was uh Romancing the Stone this is pretty specific to the Evolve Stone but the Thompson's water seal on the cut Edge there we'll show you just sort of livens it back up when I chip that to look all real and stone-ish again wow look at that welcome to the Stone Age I got paint look that paint did not dry we're working our way down and I don't know that I know what I'm doing but one thing I'll say is that the less I think about it the better I'm doing like I'm trying to make it look random but if I try to think about it make it look random it's like not and I'm also trying to make sure it kind of looks like your side but it doesn't that's some pretty deep thing with a nice wide open area to lay the stone finally we could really fly here you can see we're trying to avoid any long straight lines to keep this pattern looking random that's how I think it looks the best I'm thinking uh I'll put this happy Little Rock right here what do you think Happy Little Rock I'm thinking right here just one little happy little strip right there a little happy Rock right there that'd be nice man Jamie's getting way too into this it's like Bob Ross over here happy little rocks [Music] thank you [Music] folks I want you to look at this rake cannot help himself injured or not he's Peyton my man happy birthday hey thanks bud yeah I got you something oh I didn't want to see it oh a brand new Purdy paint brush I don't need this three hey it's the pro stiff just like you love I don't like stiff um I'm painting up here bro no cutting I don't need this thing you said pick a room I'll take all upstairs [Music] birthday boy is going to do a demonstration what we're starting with today sanding pole sanding pad and we're sanding the primer demonstration so we don't want to take the material off we just want to knock it down it's just a nice easy okay I think everybody gets the idea pretty soon you're just making the making the drywall surface Smooth by sanding it smooth [Music] foreign was holding out on us he's got a power sander in his truck power sander all day yeah didn't he know they were in there doing it with like just regular poles hey boss hey you ready to do some tile bub ble what you ready to do some tile oh I'm not working today [Music] what morning morning [Music] to get going here I'm trolling the thinset onto the floor but I'm being careful not to actually cover up my chalk line with that thinset so I can get this first row nice and straight what's your favorite part about laying tile uh let me think about that for a second [Music] um we're going to use this leveling system uh that will allow us with these larger tiles to actually lift the tiles up if we need to level them across the top normally I don't do this because I'm old school and I like to just just beat on them and do it by hand use a level but not today we're going to use technology I'm going to try it out these little tiles are a little lower and let's see if it works so much anticipation foreign it worked let's see how she fits wow I think it's a perfect fit yeah I've seen better y'all don't hear about all the good stuff I do here's about the bad stuff I do we're using a half inch by half inch Notch trowel yes and that's because these are large tiles yes gives you a little more wiggle room to to level them out or if the surface under is a little up and down we're using a large format tile mortar and on a series note I really hope these break off later or else it's going to look like we got golf tees so we're calling these golf tees because that makes me feel a little better like I'm playing golf instead of tiling yeah but everything would be going to the left though then all right nice work jono yeah man thanks Ray Jason here's our floor leveling tees right here and we're kind of working on how to break these there's probably some instructions but Jason figured something out that I think is a pro tip if you just take these get this one right here Ray and just leave the world of gig on there and then bang bang so leave the whirly gig on is the pro tip if you take it off it's not going to work very easy [Music] man you just never know what you're gonna find laying around here this this thing you can either paint on one end or you could sweep if you feel like sweeping hey whatever you feel like doing never grab you never grabbed your fancy you know pretty good idea to keep these warm while you're going down the road oh yeah pretty cold this morning got my best comforter off the bed yeah I don't think Grandma's gonna be really happy with the fact you're using this thing on if these uh it's going down the road [Music] foreign thing we did here is we set the middle window first but then we just tacked it with one nail so we could shift it back and forth and I was siding up this plane here to make sure you know it lines up and I'm gonna have to bump it this way the middle one so that's a pretty key thing you need to do if you're doing a multiple window pack like this is just tack some of them get everything in and just sort of cite and see what needs to move where if you're wondering we did pre-stain and pre-finish these trim boards with two coats of poly over the stain and it took us only about 20 minutes to install this whole window section which is super fast compared to any other way I've ever done it foreign can fits right on this little circle on the ladder yeah I think they designed it that way just like they designed those glasses for your grandma they are my mother-in-laws okay just checking hey I got bad eyes bro I can't help it it's time for flooring yay who's with me look who's coming with me nobody we're gonna chalk a line to start with and that's really important that the chalk line and the flooring is actually running parallel to the walls in your house so when we start here and get to the other side it's not this like big angled rip against that wall right unless you're going for that angular look no we're not you know we're going for a good looking floor so one thing we always do and this could be a pro tip is that we check off of the wall the exterior wall there's my chalk mark there five and seven eighths and I make a mark down here check this out five and seven eighths to double check that the next straightest thing throughout this whole house is actually the seams on our subfloor so what I'll do is check that now about 15 and a sixteenths what you got down there Jay 15 okay so basically we've double verified that if we chalk this line it's as parallel to the main line of this house as it can be so we're good with that we're going to roll with it once we stick this floor down you cannot adjust it hey you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world I think I just heard it yeah that's so loud what are you really volunteering to be the glue guy dude I don't I don't have to walk so okay let's flash back to last time yeah you lost all of the hair on your knees yeah you lost the section of your beard got the glue in it my beard is longer now so I'm kind of worried that it's gonna end up getting in the glue well we'll just we'll keep everybody posted on that yeah the engineered floor we're using here is actually almost eight inches wide which is great we've put down plenty of solid hardwood floors in the past that were only two and a quarter and you don't feel like you're getting anywhere as you're going row by Row the layers of the plywood on this have alternating grain directions which keeps the material from cupping which isn't the case with solid hardwood floor I wouldn't recommend going more than four and a quarter on a solid three-quarter hardwood flooring you know what my main goal is today not to get any glue on you that is the only goal I have and it hasn't it doesn't work like that already once it gets on you it just like multiplies [Music] I got the jono view here this is what he's seeing it's like watching primates inside the zoo in here worse floor or tongue Groove I don't mind either one of them painting I call paintings the worst [Music] there was this daddy long legs and and he just he kept getting in the glue we kept sending him back he had glue on the end of his leg for more so I broke off just a little bit of his end leg so he could walk and I put it and then he walked through he walked right back into it oh he just missed us or something what do you think I think it's gonna be awesome I think his back might be hunched over he might be at the Notre Dame I gotta get this back though this is how I hang out my garage and edit videos on this thing the funny thing is that he's not even joking that's really how he does it what's up boss number one now we're talking [Music] bro I don't know why everybody [Music] yeah [Music] all right bring me a board let's go I'm waiting on you bro come away dude I am so sorry how does that look are we good looks perfect you love it I love it a little touch up paint no big deal that is not going to work for us what we have to do and you might want to do the same thing because this happens all the time is actually put a piece of trim right there got it now what do you think of that is that a little better I don't know I mean all right just whatever positive stop going in oh yeah if you see it pull down there [Applause] yeah [Music] hey your shirt's inside out no it's just faded no it's inside out now it's faded look that's inside out oh crap it is inside leave it now I wanted you guys to see the nailer we're using here it's a power nailer and it shoots cleats which have a serrated edge on them kind of like how a fishing hook has a Barb catches in the material a little better and one thing about this though is it doesn't have like a safety mechanism like most have it's just a double trigger so that's your safety once that's pulled if you pull that trigger bang so you do have to be careful with this I think Jason and I both during this process fired an errant nail somewhere [Music] foreign last row where's Ray though he's done he said no guys done any Bales my butt's killing me already I think him and John are drinking beers already good for him so you built this entire frame in one piece are you a glutton for punishment do you not remember the outside frame I won't why I'm getting a little nervous now because if it doesn't fit this time I just don't know what to say if you guys don't remember or didn't watch the other video basically Jamie was like this is gonna fit one try I'm the man this is gonna be awesome embellishment embellishment and then the thing didn't fit and so that was the outside trim now he's got this built and it's been this whole debacle to get it here it's now almost noon it's all worth it well it's really gonna be worth it if it doesn't if it doesn't well I don't know get out the gases some good entertainment I guess but uh I do want it to fit well aren't bad let's try it [Music] [Music] I can hear him [Music] all right let's stop right there way easier to build it one piece and then it's like backing a Mac truck up to get in the house it looks right to me everything's looking pretty I still have no idea see one two three one two three I think it's looking good yeah [Music] all right now um all right okay ready one two three up and then barely get the bottom of the line okay drop it down fingers okay oh it's going oh hats off hey good job I appreciate that I appreciate that really dude up next we're installing the basement floor which is an lvp floating floor if you're not familiar lvp stands for luxury vinyl plank it's a great choice for a basement because it's not affected by moisture I was able to fit all of the flooring we needed in the back seat of my truck for the whole basement which is also a great thing if you don't have a truck and you're looking to replace a floor oh man this stuff yeah we're gonna cut this little soft too hard yeah oh my gosh it's not a chance since this is a floating floor and it doesn't attach to the subfloor or concrete in any way only to itself the installation is a lot different than our flooring upstairs one main difference is it's really hard to keep these first few rows that you're laying from moving all around while you're putting the next few rows onto it we did put a spacer in to keep things off the door jamb but I'll show you what we did elsewhere we've got our section here parallel to our finishing wall there and it's hard to actually screw something down to hold this because it's concrete so I'm just going to weight it down with a bunch of these boxes so it doesn't move now and we've got a line drawn so I think that's going to work and with that we stacked the remainder of our material onto the flooring section we already had installed and it actually worked really well it did not move at all once it was waited we were able to finish out this 14 foot wide by 25 foot long room in less than two hours which if you're wondering was about half the time I was expecting to spin it seems like we're done but we're not I think the Cardinal uh amateur mistake of skipping all of the rip pieces everywhere and the whole downstairs so now we gotta do the hardest part in the last up next let's go for a ride on my camera which is in a wall cavity with the flashlight on recording video so that I could pull it back out and see what was in there and I'll tell you what I was looking for Nate our electrician's here and we just found a wire back here it says blower and to get to that wire sorry Nate you're good we had to take some rock off and cut this shielding off the wall and uh you know this was our fault there's a switch right there for the blower but the wire was coiled up and the insulators covered it and we just didn't see it we did all the stone work so Nate just went fishing which he didn't know he's going to do today with this piece of ground wire we hooked it and now we're gonna connect it to the Firebox like it should have been I'm gonna put this all back together like it never happened did it really happen Ray and what did what happened exactly [Music] so Jonathan gave us um his stud finder but um don't do it not sure if it works I don't think you need to do it again how many times do we need to do this every time today we're hanging doors you know I got here way before you today I don't always get to work on time but when I do I brag about it most of the day listen to this door though these are pretty young doors and um check that out yeah that's the way it came and we thought it was loose but actually that's where it was nailed yeah so if you're gonna get pre-hung doors we already got a pro tip check them out because you know they may need some attention before you hang them I hate to say it but you should expect out of 10 doors about three of them are gonna need some work before you can hang them what we're gonna do is attach the hinge side of the door to the jamb first and a little trick Arlo taught me that if your hinge side of the framing is not Plumb like this we're a little out of plumb here just just a little we've actually got where the hinges are on the door marked on this level right here right here and right there so I'm going to go ahead and shim for the door before the door is here that makes it a lot easier we're going to shim right behind the hinge there both ways till we're Plumb that looks good [Music] glamorous shot something else important for door installation I think is that the door is actually spaced off the floor the right amount and in a room like this WOW in a room like this where there's no return vent in this room this three quarters of an inch right here is going to allow air to get pulled out of this room to the return and actually keep this room from getting stuffy so I always err on the side of actually leaving the door up a little more that'll actually help it to clear any throw rugs you ever had a door where you opened it and it just like wadded up a throw rug oh yes is doing my favorite so you're doing the brush it on rag it off move I don't know something like that it looks beautiful and you're getting so good at this painting and staining stuff you're gonna be my new guy cut your dirty mouth hey stink guy really hit a wreck oh my God this is how you want to stop staining right there I don't have a rag Bud here we go I'm trying to get a rag thank you there oh my God don't put it right there it's tile bud it's impervious that's not oh my gosh all right let's get it out of here it was all going so good today you're talking to me get that camera off of me dude I'm already doing something I freaking hate well on the good news you want to come early because we don't have any more stain like it never happened nothing ever happened oh it happened here for the rest of my life you know see [Music] dude we gotta get into cabinets did you see those trailers powder coated I'm a little jealous actually I guess these guys go big or go home this thing's huge [Music] we're gonna start with the upper cabinets because you can actually get right under them you don't have to lean out over the base cabinets and we're going to start in the corner and uh Nate was smart enough to have actually put all of these cabinets in the trailer in reverse order if you use a standard drill with a Chuck you're going to potentially rub the finish off your cabinet in this case the tops are finished because you can see them from The Loft that'd be a big No-No instead we're using this impact where there is no like external Chuck thing and we've extended the bit to get a nice low angle right and there's no chance of me skinning the cabinet with this drill it's like you're on TV man I'm on TV hi Mom hey what's going on man well we got a pretty detailed project in here putting the cabinets in so are y'all doing cabinets yeah so I'm gonna stick you on the baseboard you and Ray on baseboard today okay do not watch our Channel bro dude we're cabinet makers dude baseboards was like last year bro we're up to Cabinets Now Okay well today dude anyone can do baseboards that means you can do baseboards that's crap dude sure these are balloon door hinges and then you have an on off for the soft close feature on a little door like this we just have one out of the three turned on and that's still that's about right that's good put on a big door all three are on right yep before I slam it check Roger yeah so those are nice oh wait we put it in the wrong hole all right are you joking me into the same boat hold on retract retract okay that's what she said yeah wow he's on point today Jamie's setting him up Nate's knocking them down that's your husband for our face frames we're going to pre-drill that's important so it'll split the frame but this is a 7 64th bit which is a crazy sounding size that's a grk two and a half inch trim screw that's what we're gonna face frame it with [Music] foreign [Music] worked with the Perkins Builder Brothers all morning uh are we are we which what you thought are we like not even Carpenters what do you think uh this is like uh comedy that's weird I was thinking the same word oh I really was I'm not really sure if it's a comedy of errors yet I was thinking like but professional uh um crazy streamline um however the nice thing about it is because I am a professional cabinet maker not everything goes right the first time really so I'm glad to see that you guys experienced some of that too never it's never happened in baseball where's your car though bud over here because the cabinet guy is more important than I am his car is like a half mile down the road that's what happens when you come late one add-on piece of Hardware in this blind cabinet for the base that I was completely enamored with was this slide out shelf by rev a shelf this thing is shaped where it can slide in and out and not touch the sides and it just looks so cool that I had Nate slide it in and out like 10 times and he was like dude that's enough but anyway I liked it just one more time for good measure for this cabinet we had to deal with this toe kick vent which the heat and air guys left a little long which is good but we want it to come out exactly flush with the front of our toe kick on the cabinet so we had to trim it back a few inches in place which is a little tricky but again better than being short [Music] next we had to measure for the plumbing that comes through the bottom of our sink base cabinet and I tried something new here I made a template out of a piece of cardboard and I don't know that I've ever done this before and I don't know why I did it but it did end up working and it was probably not as easy as just measuring foreign [Music] with our plumbing locations marked in the bottom of the cabinets we could go and drill them out I'm using a two and a half inch hole saw and a one inch paddle bit for the supply lines my biggest piece of advice here is to be careful because this thing can punch through and go into your flooring if you're not being careful so I'm always sort of pulling back on the drill to make sure it doesn't do that our final bit of fitting for this cabinet is to cut out for the toe kick vent and there is a finished piece of toe kit going over this we don't have to be super careful but we want to get it pretty close how's that baseboard going yeah Jason how's that baseball going good we've all just decided that we would vote whoever would get rid of Phillips head screws president of the United States no more Phillips heads only torx bits wow no that's in America I could live in that's really a platform I can get behind absolutely [Music] with a quarter inch shim now ripped we could shoot it to the face frame of this cabinet with a pin nailer and by the way if you don't own a pin nailer and you want to do cabinets I'd really recommend getting one they are great for all kinds of stuff next we took a little time to reinstall these doors and it's really a pet peeve of mine if doors don't line up these types of hinges are adjustable up and down and left and right which is great we also installed some shelving here so that was done we've made it to here which is where the refrigerator goes has a panel on each side and a giant deep cabinet up top I think Nate's smart because he said we're going to build it on the floor and then stand the whole thing up so we'll see how that works Nate did a lot of planning ahead for us so that we had all of the filler strips and things we needed to attach these panels to the upper cabinet without having to make any pieces which saved us a ton of time and with the unit assembled we could stand it up and slide it against the wall and attach it to the other Cabinetry it's a pretty banging kitchen yeah babe real nice crumbled crown molding Light Rail got a big island right here in the middle see that's the best place for that isn't I love when they put it is on in the middle we're gonna do a little segment highlighting some of the ingenious job site tools we have here at the Perkins job site today the vacuum we have which is nothing but but let's check out the hose all right stretch that thing out Jake [Music] gun [Music] look at this thing wow together 48 . you got about 54 feet of Hose there baby with our base cabinets for the island now fastened to the floor and to each other we can fit them with the side and back panels that Nate made which are really beautiful in some cases we'd have to order skins that match the cabinets and then do all this cutting and fitting on the job but not with this one if you're wondering why these side panels look too long that's actually on purpose it's to support the granite that will stick off one foot off the back of the island and it'll also give the island a wider looking profile from the sides and you'll still be able to get your legs up under here and Scoot in tight to the bar foreign this set of Cabinetry in the basement is a wet bar and it's going to have under cabinet lighting a sink a mini fridge and I think a Kegerator coming through the wall Pro tip if you're using a hole saw like this the pilot bit sticks out further than the rest of the hole saw so what I'll do is pile it through the back of the material and then I'll switch and go like this way so I don't get tear out on the inside the visible part of the cabinet Jay here with a little uh Pro tip so when drilling holes for your piping there what you want to do is you want to just get the pilot started through the back so that you can see it inside because if you just Ram this thing right through it's going to blow out the back you're going to see that so if you just get a little bit started so you can see the hole you can come around the front and finish the hole from the front and that way it's nice clean cut a little Pro tip if I didn't know that one that was the exact same Pro tip I just gave right before you did that come on come on bro why you say okay come on back oh wow oh what's up on that nice and look the kid even misses our flooring what are you gonna do with that we're gonna have to put a little piece in there later we can't set these on top of the flooring so it's floating floor now I'm going back bevel a little bit on purpose here I thought it was doing a good job but Jamie's like now give me that thing I can't let you have all the satisfaction in this little job [Music] yeah he didn't quite let me finish planting that he took it from me I think he knows what's best does it look any better oh it's about a quarter inch off we should try this oh okay that looks better here's a look at the completed wet bar Cabinetry which looks super awesome I was really happy with how this turned out and I'm sure the client will love it as well we also knocked out all the bathroom vanities but due to it being cramped spaces and not very well lit we didn't really film it but here they are Cabinetry and trim hasn't been the only progress going on here the electricians have been here doing the electrical trim out which includes the receptacle switches and light fixtures and this was the coolest light fixture of the kitchen island which is light hanging from a giant chunk of wood these guys also got the electrical panel trimmed out so that we could call for a temporary Co and get our permanent power hooked up and turn all the lights on for the rest of the finish of this house [Music] another huge chunk of progress that's been happening but not on the job site is the finishing of all the doors and all the trim at the shop we're using a stain color called special Walnut it's an oil-based stain and one of my favorites because it doesn't have too much of a red undertone just a nice brown color after each door was stained we attached some 90 degree metal L brackets on the top and bottom of the door so that we could hang it in this drying rack we would leave space between each door so that they could dry evenly and quickly after the stain was dry we came back with two coats of matte polyurethane finish water-based sanding between coats and these doors are finally ready to install we followed the same process as the doors with about 75 1x4 Spruce boards 16 feet long this is all the baseboard for the house and this would be a mind-numbing job by yourself but with a couple of your buddies you can knock it out fast and actually have a pretty good time as you can see our project is really starting to wrap up now this is the master bedroom which is pretty much done now it has floors trim doors even doorknobs the only thing it's lacking is the final coat of paint and we're going to do some touch-ups where we've nicked the wall doing all these other processes we say hi VIs [Music] or something Arlo's here hello yeah you put her there buddy just keep working Phil let me bother you he's not even gonna stop working our first project of the day was to finish our Cabinetry by installing crown molding and Light Rail we're gonna start with an easy piece this short piece with a square cut on the wall and then an outside miter here and this is really nice actually most cabinets have the face frame sticking out past the quarter but our cabinet maker has already packed that out so there's no work to make this flush out with the face frame here which is great I'm gonna get my bearings on the chop saw before I start doing more complicated ones this is our crown molding and I think more specifically it's a Cove molding because of the shape of it our cabinet maker made these out of Oak and we're going to cut them on a chop saw a miter saw I'm just gonna slot it in till the 52 degree is against my back stop I'm going to turn on a 45 and I'm gonna chop and that should give me the correct compound miter for that 52. you can also cut it flat and set the saw in all kinds of crazy angles that are like decimal points just so you know all right folks moment of truth I haven't tested this off camera so I'm gonna look like an idiot if it doesn't work but I've I've done these like I said I was going to cut them I got the first two pieces see if it works [Music] after verifying that the lengths of each of these pieces and also the miter joint fit really nicely we fasten the outside corner using some wood glue and some pin Nails this is a great way to make sure these outside corners won't ever come apart over time yeah I'm pretty impressed with your camera angle there yeah we got a little overhead boom action going on you got that camera I think ratchet strap to the ladder it's gonna be a great shot I hope I hope I hit record let's shift gears now and check out the installation of our finished Treads risers and skirt boards in the stairwells me and Ray are down in the basement the last house that we did I had a really hard time fitting these skirts in right yeah it was it was a real struggle it was like an eighth of an inch less than we needed the whole way yeah that equals giant struggle so we left an extra quarter on this one show them how the board fits up there right between the uh the Stringer and the drywall look at that it slides up and down real easy I highly recommend that you do this leaving a gap so that you have a place for your skirt board to go without having to notch it around the actual stair cut out because that would be Dreadful yeah I would hate it we gotta sweep all that out and we'll be ready to put in skirt [Music] it's doing something here we do a lot he's marking the height of the baseboard it's three and a half High we always let this skirt run out to a point to get our fit on the floor and then what he can do is simply Mark wherever three and a half crosses there it is right there and then we're going to make a vertical cut right there and then it'll merge into a normal baseboard we're fitting the skirt boards first then we're installing the risers flush with our temporary tread and then we're installing the treads on top of that these Treads and risers are yellow pine which is the same as our doors and we'll stain them with the same special Walnut stain so that everything matches in the end what are you doing bud get just keep paning he wants he wants everything get it all there you go now we got it make sure you get the wood up yeah we've got some real ethical shots over here that's what happens when I give Jamie a camera yeah just film everything do you think it was a huge mistake to give Jamie a camera like his own definitely I'm starting to wonder if I'm gonna get that thing back from him right now you'll get it back exactly you're gonna be edit until next time let's see how we did it okay oh we got a tiniest tiny little Gap okay fair enough hey I'm just showing you this is what it's what it's really like here after a quick sand these Treads and risers were ready for stain we're brushing the stain on and then we're wiping it off with a rag to get a nice even coat but not too heavy real nice stairs this work ready or was it you doing it yeah or is it Jason what do you think Jason would have just filled the bucket at the top of the stairs that thing down I'm quality quantity oh wait yeah waterfall stain man I mean I could have done better [Music] okay Jared pressure's on buddy you're gonna be on the show Bud get away man you're gonna hang this light and show all the electricians in the world how to do it Bud oh and I just get complimented they're not complimented but criticized just hit record when you're ready all right yes sir no pressure no pressure hey Jared don't don't forget to hit record who's who's minivan this guy's a fan of ours and he waited at the NOC because he knows where the nlc's at no joke waited for one of us to drive by and he followed Jamie up here fun project today we're gonna build a rebar railing in The Loft nice and it's a cool way to get a rustic kind of railing for inexpensive and it's going to match the interior of the rest of the house perfectly and I think we can do it in one day so let's get started did he just say for inexpensive for inexpensive does that mean like it's cheap yeah I think that means cheap okay for inexpensive I just want to clarify you okay all right right here we have the material for our horizontal rails our top and bottom members of this railing it's yellow pine and it's a three by eight yeah three by eight before with the exact center of this beam now located it was my job to run a skill saw down the center of these two lines precisely you can see here I'm clamping against the base of the saw with my fingers to make a little rip guide that's adjustable and that's a great trick if you need to do a rip that's a little bit varying but mostly straight foreign ER but shouldn't you cut all the way through it I mean that's what I would have done it's as deep as it'll go oh okay I got you whoa whoa from the other side but no I'll just chisel that I don't think so I think we should saw us all it there you go winner wow you're about to yeah you're about to deck that thing ah here we go all right yep just beam look at that guy oh that's pretty cool though we may have to just totally do a different reward why luckily we bought lots of extra Timbers because we sort of anticipated some of them going crazy when we cut them we had enough to get four nice straight ones which is all we needed [Music] alcohol and rags to kind of clean the rust off of these and get the kind of Grease film off them but John had a really good point about this rust well the rust will make it look rustic exactly so we're gonna actually leave a little more rust on here The Rustic effect right after about a good hour of cleaning we were ready to jump in and start cutting these balusters to length we're just using an angle grinder with a cut off wheel here now the real key to making these things look good is the Finish we're going to use a satin clear enamel you can pick this up at any automotive store or any box store and we're going to do two coats of this this really darkens the material out you can see after spraying that they look completely different and have a slight sheen to them it really looks great they almost look like they're painted black but they're not so we're going to do is take a punch and and put a little dent in the wood where our cross is on each one of these pickets so that when I start drilling if the tape goes away we don't you know we don't lose the last half hour of our lives and have to do it over again [Music] [Music] what's up bud oh you know just add machinist to my resume you know if I have one of those mornings where you'd have to write stuff on your hand while you're driving because because you can't remember everything I'm not that important [Music] these brackets are a lot of work dude this seemed like a great idea when we first talked about oh yeah we'll just weld some brackets together yeah right it said no to the brackets we've been working on these things for two days now [Music] foreign with our brackets installed we could take a final measurement for the top and bottom caps which were slightly different measurements if you were wondering and cut them to length we had just cut them to a rough length before knowing we would make brackets I picked it up on the top rail when we got up top and pulled it right up [Music] hey who am I let me pick it up from right here even though we cut these sections about a sixteenth of an inch short of what I actually measured it was still a real challenge to get them beat down into place you can see we're using a piece of old trim to protect the top cap as we smack it with hammers to get it down into a final position [Music] dude you could do a belly option two on two into that thing like Tommy Boy even budge bro with our last couple Fasteners going in we could finally step back and take a look at this thing and I think it turned out great even better than I expected which is always a great feeling I can't believe you let me let that railing fall apart bro I told you down here whatever you do don't grab it by just a top I told you those rebar is working on hold it how's it going Bob you look like you're having a ball last in there I mean I couldn't think of a birthing to do and then sitting on my knees in a shower tie one hey we got the wizard here though is he telling you what to do yeah no no I'm just trying to be quiet the surface that we're tiling to here is half inch hardibacker after installing that we sealed all of the screw holes and the seams with mesh tape and thinset and then we rolled on two coats of this rubber membrane and that's the green stuff you see and putting all that together you'll actually get a pretty waterproof surface underneath the tile which should be pretty waterproof once it's grouted as well this is going to be a really tricky cut around the profile of the front of the shower yeah Arlo is going to cut a piece of cardboard the exact same size as a tile we're gonna cut the piece of cardboard to fit then we're going to trace it on a piece of tile it's gonna be magic there's our next cut good luck with that sure what in the world is this crap it's your template [Music] thank you wow what is that Picasso I've been working hard with artistic skills this morning got to get it up here without dropping all these let's see these little bits and stuff I got a get it upstairs without dumping them okay hold it flat you know meanwhile Jamie was finishing up the tile on this sloped ceiling which I was a little worried about I've never really tiled a ceiling so I wasn't sure how well it would stick or if it'd want to come off I mean we're surprised actually how well it's sticking um we did maybe make the mud a little thicker stickier stiffer stiffer sticker we didn't do anything special but just put a little less water yeah it sticks pretty nice I mean watch hey but but I am you know doing that quite a bit quite a good bit there with the ceiling finish the only job left on laying tile here was to get this river running through our shower and this fits the mountain Motif pretty well here this is exactly the kind of stone you'd find if you went down to the creek and grabbed a handful off the bottom Jamie's using little pieces of cardboard as spacers for these little bits of stone that have to go around the top and bottom and he's also using bits of cardboard to space some of the pieces that are glued to the Mosaic to get them spaced properly and match everything else foreign [Music] while the thinset is still a little bit soft we just did this yesterday evening and it's first thing in the morning so we can actually remove the little bits here pretty easily right now that are sticking out where the grout is going to be and I left that on purpose yesterday because I wanted those areas to hold the stones in place foreign foreign [Music] [Music] blue wait I got blue it's always like Christmas at the job site Until you realize what you're opening is a bunch of work yeah this is nothing this feels like what these look like like you're Scrooge oh my God you can't you want to check these out uh these should be pretty easy and the reason is there's lots of coverage from the knob itself on the hull so if we're not exact we got a little wiggle room all the time yeah those are and I'll tell you I would tell you this side of these kind of things I'd be careful of stripping them because yeah I've had to happen you know you're trying to straighten it and it strips the screws or whatever how many houses are we doing come on dude there's like six in there better or something like that [Music] this is still really nerve-wracking every time it's kind of a stressful thing to drill holes in like twenty thousand dollars from the cabinets and you know on a Monday morning yeah exactly that's why you're on the drill Bob yeah I know it's I'm on the hand screwdriver I think you could just push it harder good I don't know what to do there we should have checked that for the cow [Music] could get like a just one little knob [Music] you know what we can do I got it we probably get like a little knob that's a great idea let's just get a knob here we are again me and you the over the range yeah whatever it is that's us I don't like this pattern remember the last one had two blowers yeah on the mountain and we put them in toys can we put them backwards the first time we're gonna put this in and uh hopefully it's gonna go good step number one trim the rear wall template along dotted line yeah that's stupid why wouldn't they just send it already in the right size uh because then step one would be no good 16. 1 8. I think we got it okay see if you're walking worked [Music] walking foreign popping popcorn it just blows my mind you can put a metal Rack in a microwave you can't put metal in a microwave I don't know I don't understand NOC another Finishing Touch we can do finally because we have gutters finally yes we can put a door in that's pretty critical feature to this house is doors judging by the ladybug Invasion so let's do it foreign [Music] tack it so that I can get in there without it falling over I don't even have to shim it it's literally perfect get in position there to figure out where that goes yeah honestly I think I think this is good I mean what do you think yeah I don't think you don't want it back in there I mean that's no that's terrible yeah I think um I mean yeah I don't really love the way it looks out here but man as far as function well it just screws inside the jar yeah yeah there you go get into it and I'll wipe your butt there you go in case you're wondering folks I did Google it 26 inches to the center of the toilet paper holder and one foot out from the front of the toilet to the center of the Roll so how does she feel oh is that his gold I don't have to move I that's so good yeah I'm happy about that yeah this one see oh man you did pull your back out right here one more let's go bro it's five o'clock [Music] so we're gonna put straw down around the house and I'm trying to figure out you know if it's required or not I can't figure it out I think it is required from the county that you have a ground cover is it the county or is it the bank I think it's both see the bank comes out to do inspections and they want to see straw around the house if it's just or some kind of ground cover yeah if it's just bare dirt they want something they want something on the dirt so straw we got straw we don't do landscaping by the way that's not us nope we build houses that's somebody else [Music] yo 52. no five two we got some dangers ready for this ball or what come on now look I ain't got my peanuts I got some beers man all of the bathroom vanities in this home also have custom Granite tops and these have backsplashes as opposed to the kitchen where we're going to do a tile backsplash later and believe it or not these backsplashes are installed with just a few dots of sealant on the wall push the piece tight and it'll never come off of there paint pipe the good to the leech field down there and it's straight down so we're trying to get this thing covered up a little better oh here's a Trico he's very against rakes 80 grand a little steep that's nothing that's two videos uh 50. here's one for 50. I know he's a machine he is here shout out to Ace Hardware for selling us completely useless Dimension rag four foot long two inches wide yep for a shoe shining kit it kind of is yeah there's no surface area boss I swear I'll use the team rack [Music] wow you can see through there had glass in it it was almost like it didn't have glass it looks so much better you're gonna clean it dude this is a danger to Wildlife right here it's so clean there's gonna be Birds actually a pile of dead birds right here at the front door what's that move I'm good from Florida bro we don't do hot sauce NOC are we really still here we are bro this thing isn't done yet I mean oh who's that guy you guys aren't done uh no we're not done so we're waiting for you I need to go away again hey by the way I got a bunch of wood at the dump you picked up stuff yeah PT you're supposed to get rid of stuff check it out I can build like a whole house all right yeah so all this pressure treated right here really somebody threw it out at the dump and I was I needed some small pressure treated today yeah and boom there it was so we're gonna build the stand for the pressure tank out of that yeah it's perfect that is perfect foreign [Music] I think we need some more stuff in this bathroom two ladders Two Guys Guns I probably stress out more about the finishing up stuff just because you got to figure out what to do like I know how to build the whole house uh frame it you know yeah that's a little problem okay and yep okay all right yeah just put that on my truck well I guess this is it yay thank you for making me write down all the stuff I needed to get for today yeah all that crap I got to Lowe's I was like oh I remember it no I forgot half the things we said on Friday so shout out to Ray on that one the good news is it's Monday and giano's at work okay perfect the bad news is I don't think he's gonna get much production done today where's he at I'm here our homeowner left us this door knocker and he even left us I think he really gets us he said can't save Becker [Music] love it [Music] hit it it kind of sounds like a woodpecker okay it sounds annoying [Music] careful like I don't drop the screw don't drop the screw uh didn't drop the screw hmm [Music] ings Merry Christmas Ray old truck I think we're done guys so we're gonna show you a few little clips of the finished house we're not gonna do a whole tour right now because what I've learned over the years is after all the work you put into this place all the effort when it's done it just looks like an empty house walls and floors and ceilings it doesn't really look like a home until the homeowner moves in and puts the things that they love in the home and it looks like someone lives there so once that happens we will give you a tour when it looks like home thanks for building with us appreciate you watching this series make sure to tune in because we're starting a brand new house [Music] you know see [Music]
