Conan Plays Old Timey Baseball - "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"

let me talk about something that's well really been on my mind lately besides drafting an NBA player and that's summer summer is finally here just the other day okay that's great let's applaud the seasons well right and that'll be followed by fall anyway summer such a great time of year school's out the weather's really amazing and for most Americans summer let's face it means baseball a lot of baseball fans out there I'm a huge baseball huge baseball fan myself and recently I heard this is true story I heard about a place called Old Bethpage Village in Long Island and here's what they do an Old Bethpage Village I heard about this and and a couple people on staff knew about it they play old-fashioned baseball the way it used to be played in the 1800s and they really take it seriously I'm talking old-time uniforms old-time bats old-time rules they use the old-time way of speaking and it sounded really fascinating so I went out there and I took a camera crew along and here's what happened hi I'm an Old Bethpage village restoration where they play old-time baseball 1864 rules 1864 costumes some say a waste of time others say an incredible waste of time [Music] this is Gary Monty Gary you are the umpire actually referee in 1864 there are some terms that everyone uses here which are appropriate to 1864 do you mind if we review these right now sure first of all a pitcher is called a hurler fans are cranks rooters birds and bugs that's correct you have a pencil behind your ear what's that for well I have to keep score I have to keep score during the game so this is an authentic 1860s pencil yes what do you write the score on I have a number of things wait what can I see what's in here oh my god this is an authentic Nature Valley granola bar video professions what do you think you did in 1864 probably a farmer you were a farmer yeah you same here you were a farmer as well yes I'm a farmer you're a farmer I'm a former you're a farmer as well everyone's going with this farmer thing no one ever says I'm a kickboxer or anything [Music] if you think the people playing 1864 baseball are intense check out the people watching it it 1864 and you're out looking for some some man action is that the idea would invite us to come watch them play okay and are there certain players that you have who do you have the crushes on who do you guys like come on who do you like um the man I was playing shortstop next to me before played it made a lot of great catches okay you like him what about you do you have a crush on anybody master no Sarah okay Bruce shines 1864 I'm being very forward which would make you shy plus I have cameras which don't even exist yet where's your father do here in the town in 1864 everyone's a farmer farmer farmer farmer is any working advertising or anything who's your dad doing to town Taylor oh no there you go he's a tailor he makes clothes and a farmer farmer farmer and your father my father's past [Applause] that's a terrible reaction since 1864 and I come walking into the town good-looking fellow six foot four shock a red hair don't tell me you ladies wouldn't be kind of interested right I might be and you and you you are the tallest man I've seen in a while and then finally you I'm married what's the guy what's he do he is fighting he's fighting oh he's fighting in the Civil War for the north well I hope he returns home safely but if he doesn't if he gets killed who did you sit down yes sir okay let's just hope that guy gets blowed up yes why aren't you off at war flat-footed yeah that's really made a difference when they needed to look they were shooting people out of cannons in 1864 the in care if they were flat-footed that's how they killed people as they'd throw other people at them you seem peevish right now I hope I have not caused you vexation or any unpleasant cogitations I wish to where does it say get it on let's see that yeah so waiting for your husband to come back from the Civil War you know that guy ain't coming back yeah I was down I was in the Civil War and I was fighting and I saw him he was acting very cowardly he said we're all gonna get killed let's get out of here and then he made out with a guy guys swings both ways I'm sorry that gentleman likes to ply his seed in the other melon [Music] [Applause] if that was any lower I'd have to dig to Hades itself to find the Apple why not dig a trench then the ball would be as low as you seem to wish it to be that was no strike [Applause] see [Music] [Applause] deplorable through the worst Apple hurling and stick matching I've seen you hit like a bunch of old men that fought in the spanish-american war which hasn't even been fought yet I'd like to take the whole lot of you and thrash you at this hand then bash you with this hand both hands and give you a massage just to loosen you up now let's get back out there and show that other team why our life expectancy is only 39 years thanks for the cool breeze it was most I remember seeing this in my dorm room. I was hooked on Conan for life after seeing it. He is the funniest unscripted off-the-cuff comedian there is, and after years of great remote segments this is still one of my favorites.

The remotes are always great. But one of my favorite underrated short skits is the homophobic Chick-fil-A chicken. And also, one of the more recent ones, Andy's inappropriate Wheel of Fortune appearances.

One of the best Conan skits ever. This, the Civil War skit, Wii Spa are probably my top 3. Conan is ridiculously talented inside the studio, but to me, he's a Legend because of his remotes.
