this is Sean with Gate City foundation drainage we are on a job today in Greensboro and we've got a house here the the homeowner is a landlord and she has dealt with lots of drainage issues and multiple houses and the reason she called me is because she saw that we do only PVC solid and she wants a drainage system that's gonna solve her problems she's got major flooding under the house and this is an investment property for her so she wants to fix it correctly so let's take a look we are going to add some gutters on the front of this house pipe them along here pipe them out to the street we're gonna put a catch basin in over here we got a lot of runoff coming from this house with no gutters on it we're gonna regrade a little bit here so the water sheds away from the crawlspace we're going to install a gutter right here and put it across there catch that little bit a French drain across the back here and take a look at this hill we've got going on so there's a massive amount of runoff coming down here and everything is just flooding under here so we're gonna catch this gutter with a little sanitary tee right there we're also doing another French drain across here and she's having a lot of water underneath this bedroom as well so this bedroom and this utility room here are the two main culprits and we're gonna catch this gutter and then we're gonna come across to the front here and my gutter guy is gonna put his his gutter across the front of this with a downspout right here and so we're gonna catch that word we're just gonna leave him an opening an open pipe right here and then we're gonna go straight down to the sidewalk here and the other issue that we've got going on is water is standing right here and so the reason it's standing here is because this Bank is built up really bad so we're gonna scalp all this dirt off of here between the sidewalk and the curb across the whole front because it's just all built up and holding the water so hopefully the water will shut off into the street so that's what we're working on today a lot of pickaxe it's not hard the dirt itself it's hitting all of them yep [Music] there's our first French train and that's 12 feet and we're going to take the dirt that we pulled out of there and blow up and build up along the foundation here and also right here to get this to slip away a little bit then onto our french rain along the back here [Music] yeah okay once we get this one though uh-huh don't want my change okay so there'll be a straight line I just wanted to know if that needed to start hand [Music] they're finishing up that French drain back there cleaning that up getting it ready for gravel so I'm over here I'm gonna go ahead and trench this line and Jeremy already hand dug this so that's gonna be our outfall down there the sidewalk [Music] [Music] [Music] things are moving right along with this job or just about done with this French drain and we're getting things we had to make sure we had good fall over here so we had to dig it out a little bit more but I was telling the homeowner here this is a combination why and so that gives that that water coming from this gutter an aggressive sweep that way and so compare that with a sanitary tee which would have worked just as well but I like to give it that even more aggressive curve to it sending it this way keeping it flowing I think every night I'll do a mixture of palm cranberry orange juice tonic water and ginger ale and I drink two or three of those every night and that ladies and gentlemen is how you make a custom hole yeah we this pipe ended up being too low to have any fall so we had to go a little bit higher but that's how we do things sometimes that's what it takes all right probably it might be a little bit low we're getting this catch basin set and getting ready to catch this gutter that's going to be installed later next week and then we'll be running right out there that's just a straight shot up to the connection point where the guys are finishing up the French drain [Music] [Music] yep this is Sean and it's the next morning and I'm back on this job and I wanted to take a look at how the gutters and everything we're working or how the drainage was working and this one there's nothing hooked up yet to this and so you can see up there that we are stubbed-out ready for gutters but this one over here does have gutters hooked up to it it doesn't have all of them hooked up to it yet because the gutter guy will be here in a few days but even so take a look that's all water coming from the backyard and that's all water that is no longer has the potential of flooding her crawlspace so that was the main problem she was having was the crawlspace was flooding and so catching the gutters and the French drains we did and it's not even raining that hard right now so that's what's going on there I wanted to show you as well we want to or I wanted to put some gutters on this house and so you can just see all the rain coming off of there and so once we get the gutters on all this water in the front yard here there's our stub out right there for the gutter guy but that will be carrying even more water away from here the catch basin it's not really raining that hard so anyway we also cut this Bank off of here and it was really quite a bit higher than the sidewalk and so it was holding water right in this area so take a look at what's going on here this water is now flowing across the sidewalk and across into the street like it's supposed to and then on down the way there so I think we should have her flooded crawlspace issues completely solved once we get some gutters on this thing this is a couple days late at me so I ended up coming back off with my mini skid steer and just trying to flatten out this area a little bit for her and get things done get it graded out for her by easing that slope a little bit and I also brought in some rock dust and made a little walkway in the back there for her she was having a terrible time with she's renovating this house and with workers and everybody coming in and out tracking mud and dirt in here so we just brought in some rock dust and pack it down really well for a little bit of a temporary walkway right there the gutter guys have repositioned this gutter bait is left we got a gutter on right here and so that little bit of water right there is now going to be collected in our system and then moving on toward the front of the house got gutters on both sides and the gutter guys just left got that done and so now that's going to collect water into the drainage system it's been about a week or so and I'm back it's finally raining now and back to check on this system so take a look here first of all the house looks a lot better with the gutters on it but this gutter it's not really raining that much don't know if you can see there but this gutter or this downspout didn't have any gutters hooked up to it until we got those two gutters on there and so I just wanted to take a look it's not even raining that hard look at how much water it's blowing through there so all that water represents water that was landing in the backyard and that represents that back gutter that we put in and then this front one right here that we put in so that's all it cooked into this time so that much water coming off of there and this one is also hooked into the French drain so you can see some of that slightly muddy water it's probably coming from the French brain right there but again this is all water that was landing in the backyard with nowhere to go and so you take that water and give it a path of least resistance hope she got her slump ground out look at that so you take that water give it a path of least resistance and let it come out here to where it's no longer a problem so it looks like that system is working really well for her
