Bixby. Is it true you're leaving us? No I'm not! [Bixby + Gauss]
I became stronger than ever. What are you guys doing? Talking to each other? Endure and listen to get more knowledge on tech! Okay! [ZUYONI TECH] Hello, this is Zuyoni. Samsung has unveiled a new AI that may be included in Galaxy S24 next year. Samsung already has an AI secretary Bixby, right? But Bixby met Gauss and it can code, translate make a call, write emails and other various functions useful for daily life in the very much upgraded version. Recently, Google, Meta, and Microsoft are releasing generative AI. Many domestic companies are also continuously trying to introduce generative AI. Today, let's check out Samsung's new generative AI and see how it will change our experience how it will be used in our phones. We'll take a look at some other news as well. Let's go! On Oct 8, Samsung unveiled its generative AI model, Samsung Gauss. Gauss! I've heard it before! But where? Yes, you're right. It's the name of the mathematician Gauss. Samsung will launch Gauss in Galaxy smartphones first and launch it in other various products step by step. Galaxy S24 flagship models which will be released in Jan or Feb next year are expected to be released with Gauss included. That's because the vice president of MX division already mentioned that they will launch generative AI in Galaxy models next year. So what exactly is generative AI? In generative AI if you put in text, audio, or image then the AI uses existing content and what it has learned to make a similar, new content. As you all know ChatGPT is also a combination of conversational and generative AI. Think of it like that. For example it can write emails or plan itinerary and make or generate new content. That's what generative AI does. [How about Bixby?]
But Galaxy already has Bixby. What happens to Bixby? Bixby is conversational AI. If we say "Hi Bixby" "I'm listening." it says. If I ask "Hi Bixby, how's the weather today?" "It's very cold today" would be the answer. Bixby doesn't make new content. It uses the information it has and information it pulled from the internet [It tells us existing information]
and talks about that. And so Huh? I don't think I can even use Bixby properly. If Gauss is launched will Bixby disappear? Our friend Bixby will continue to stay with us. Put it simple if Bixby is one platform Gauss is a generative AI model incorporated to Bixby so that Bixby can be smarter to use the generative AI and do more. Bixby will become smarter and that's what happens. What will Gauss do? Based on machine learning, Samsung Gauss is going to take three additional roles. Language model that generates text code model that generates code and image model that generates image. These are the three models it'll have. The three models in Galaxy Bixby and conversational AI will now create content as generative AI. Let's see what each models would do. First, the language model can write emails, summarize documents, and translate. Samsung was especially confident in real-time AI interpretation. Because the presenter looked so confident it hit the headlines of many domestic newspapers. Galaxy can now do real-time AI interpretation for phone calls! Those were the words. However do you remember my previous video on Galaxy? Galaxy truly has its own advantages. Recording function, Samsung Pay... It does have those specialties but all of these functions are not necessary for teenagers or people in their 20s! Real-time interpretation for phone calls. [Like in the movies]
That is truly amazing. But to be honest... That's a function that office workers or people in their late 20s would need. So [Is Galaxy an MZ phone...]
I guess Galaxy isn't targeting Gen MZ. Galaxy is for older people again. But it's still really smart. For entrepreneurs like me or businessmen would be really interested. Anyway, Gauss is in Galaxy phones as a default function, with the language model. The users can talk comfortably in their native language and Galaxy will interpret it in real time for the listener. You can hear the interpreted dialogue but you can also read the transcript. What's important is that the other person's phone doesn't have to be a Galaxy! If you called someone, and it's like "You don't have a Galaxy?" "You have an iPhone?" "This won't work." This won't happen. Whether the other person uses an iPhone or a different Android phone [Real-time interpretation with anyone]
you can use real-time interpretation. That's why you use Galaxy. I'm not sponsored or anything. I personally searched [All By Myself]
the information to tell you! But to accurately interpret the phone would have to recognize the speaker's voice accurately. It's not 100% accurate yet. Especially, proper nouns are sometimes difficult to understand so I'm excited to see how the AI would be used. Other than the interpretation function, Gauss language model can write emails and summarize documents. They're some of the other features. Based on my experience of using ChatGPT I think that the input would be the subject of my mail my relationship with the recipient and my job and everything for Gauss. Bixby! I'm a video editor. I want to write an email for work. My schedule changed from Wednesday to Thursday so please compose an email for me. The recipient is my client so please be polite. Tell that to the AI. It'll know that I'm a video creator it needs polite words and that I'm writing an email for a change of schedule. So it will compose an email from greetings to the main object necessary information and last words. It'll write a neat email for me. That'll be done in seconds which is a strong point of AI. If I can make use of that I don't have to spend so much time thinking about how to write politely. That would've taken me 5 to 10 minutes. Now, all you need is a few seconds to write an email! And there's the text summary function. Let's say you have to read papers but you don't have time. Input all the content and the AI will select key information to summarize it and tell me the key points. I can understand the paper and if I want to focus on some areas the AI will help me to check the part in more detail. That's how the AI will shorten my worktime. Let's look at the second model the code model. It has an AI coding assistant, which was developed based on code models called Code.i. It's optimized for developing software for Samsung. So it's more for developers, not people like us so that developers can do coding easier and faster. It provides services that can explain codes with conversational AI interface. The third model that makes up Gauss is the image model, which can easily generate creative images like photos or drawings. It can also edit existing images or upscale low-resolution photos to high-resolution photos. Actually, Galaxy already has picture remaster function which converts low-resolution images into high-resolution images. I do wonder if Gauss would be much more detailed. When I convert my picture into high-resolution sometimes the picture gets smudged and becomes unrealistic. I expect Gauss could give a solution to the problems like this. [Improved functions, security]
When smart Gauss is applied to Galaxy as an on-device technology Bixby would get even smarter! I think the conversation with Bixby would become smoother. When I say "Hi Bixby" and say something, it often says "I didn't understand that." I think that would happen less and I'm excited about that. That would make us input more information. When we write an email I'd have to write down my age, job who the recipient is, and more. In the end that's my personal information and real-time information leaking. Gauss would get every detailed information. Personal information. So is that safe? According to Samsung, one important characteristic of Gauss is that there's no need to send the data to a cloud server. My personal information is used within the device so it can better protect my personal information. That's the on-device technology. It's different from ChatGPT that needs to bring information from a cloud server so how the personal data is used is very different. On-device technology like Gauss processes information within the device. Personal data of the users is not sent to a cloud server so that's safer to use. [AI from other companies]
Is Samsung the only company developing the technology? [Not at all!]
Nope. LG already released an AI called EXAONE but nobody was interested in it. They released EXAONE for the first time in 2021 and even presented EXAONE 2.0 in July this year. EXAONE was introduced as the top 1% expert AI which understands and explores all the knowledge in the world. What makes EXAONE special is that it secured a lot of research papers and patents through LG's affiliates and other cooperative companies at home and abroad. EXAONE has learned 45 million professional documents and 350 million images. Because it's an expert AI it can provide reliable information based on the paper and patents when you ask for professional knowledge. There's also "HyperCLOVA X" from NAVER "KoGPT" from Kakao and "Mi:dm" from KT. The competition for generative AI is getting very intense. Each company is releasing its own new AI and is using them. Google Korea has recently released Search Labs, the future of search, available in Korean and generative AI SGE (Search Generative Experience). Microsoft Cloud collaborated with the open AI "Azure" and is focusing on specializing generative AI. Around the world generative AI is booming. I'm so excited to see how these generative AI will help us in our daily lives. I'll let you know as soon as I get any updates in this field.
