[Music] it's been a long time since I'd promised a video we've been in here about a hundred days now and I believe we're about 30 days old when I was promising I'd show you guys as soon as we got in here but you know what it's been chaos that first hundred days living off the grid you know moving from completely normal everything you know flip of a switch easy lifestyle to a hundred percent off the grid cold turkey has been a bit of a shift so there's a lot of things we've been doing things have been chaotic and I just honestly I haven't even charged a laptop yet since we moved so I'm finally getting around to making a video for you guys things aren't completely done around here but we've got it a lot better than we did you know what we got one kilowatt solar array behind us this is powering the entire everything basically we power everything we need a coffee maker even in the morning if it's a sunny day we'll use that you don't even use a Dyson vacuum but you know what it all comes down to battery bank size storage etc we've got about a 10 kilowatt battery bank so we can use about two kilowatts of power before we hit that magic number that 80% state of charge so you don't want to be enough above the solar let's go inside the house let's take a look around see what we've accomplished not a show home by any means guys that's not the purpose of this video the purposes of this video is to show you guys what you can do with these portable buildings what kind of use the space you know a lot of people they're always asking what about if I got kids I've got kids how can i how can I do this shed to host things can't see look you can look bigger than they advertised come out cheaper than a traditional build the talk cost later let's go take a look so here we've got the living room dining area the flooring I know somebody's gonna ask is chaotic barnwood I believe the brand was good fella or good fellas something along those lines we do have a TV in here we don't have satellite or anything along those lines just kind of a VHS player DVD player watch about one movie a day and and still keep the battery bank more than charged we've got our baker's oven there in the winter months we moved in we did all of our cooking and heating all of our hot water exclusively on this stove you know we had a tub that was just kind of roughed in and boiled buckets of hot water and that wood stove for for bathing so really old school actually went outside to the pitcher pump manually pumped water and -28 and hauled it back into the house filled the buckets and heated it up that way kitchen is temporary found these cabinets online and on a classified ad site for a couple hundred bucks you're gonna have a proper full custom kitchen done here it's gonna be an l-shaped and then and then come out kind of where that little high chair booster seat sitting there I'll come out and they'll be a bit of a of an island slash bar patio door let's in a lot of light don't believe that was in yet in the previous video [Music] nice wide hallway here down the hall we go to the master bedroom just made that sewing desk go to some old love an old green house my brother tore down actually so for size reference guys that is a king-sized bed so lots and lots of room in here king-size bed and I've got loads room to walk around still room for a sewing desk etc etc sorry for the mess in here guys it's still very much a work in progress but things are coming together the bathroom is chaos but let me show you something here guys look at that look at that beautiful beautiful piece of porcelain why am I so excited about a toilet well I will tell you why am I so excited about a toilet we have not had a toilet for the last hundred days all outdoor plumbing for the last hundred days that toilet went in abode an hour ago so there you go that is one beautiful piece of porcelain I'm going upstairs here we have the playroom anywhere you see pine missing air that's all gonna be four-inch trim as well as I got to get a table saw and finish up that top board there to finish it up but here's the playroom we're about six feet tall up here I'm six-foot I'm 6 foot 2 and I can stand perfectly only in the middle but I can stand without touching my head or crouching down in the middle of the room our way of looking at it was this is gonna be the kids area you know we're gonna be sitting on the floor playing around hanging out playing with toys with the kids so it's not the end of the world they could have went taller but they would have had to build on site and for that they charge an additional 5% of invoice both bedrooms are 15 by 15 I've taught my head I'm not sure how big the playroom is but 20 some feet view out the bedroom window I had to finish some part lights up here finish some pine finish a lot of trim so there's a lot left to do we're gonna put a little LED TV over here on this side and a little beanbag coach over there the kids to watch movies in the evening if they want and the reason well one of the reasons that we did it this way with that little nook is in that room it's too dark for the camera to recognize I already tried is the propane hot water tank to take care of our hot water needs now that we have indoor plumbing the beautiful glorious indoor plumbing so what start cost what did it cost us to get here let's just get straight into the numbers all I want to say is a disclaimer before all the American folks tell me I'm crazy and I could have bought a house for this price I can't here's the average price of a home here and this province is about two hundred and seventy-five thousand but a mobo home a brand-new mobile home I think we priced out the cheapest mobile home brand-new one hundred and twenty thousand for a three-bedroom mobile home and that was with cheap cheap cheap finishing so we got some premium products here you know we got closed cell foam insulation we got tongue and groove pine we got four 500 square foot flooring we spent some money on the premium stuff but we but we still came out with with a very low price compared a week so we spent $65,000 roughly said and done oh we're not sitting on I think we're into it for about fifty five sixty right now but 24 is the base price on 16 by 52 with 2x4 framing and shed windows once we added all our options we had them do two by six framing double stud extra height full second level proper windows add them frame up the walls according to my handwritten drawings have them do the stairs for me with the oversized permits and stuff because of the height we spent thirty four thousand dollars Canadian on site 34 grand and from their spray-foam 7,000 bucks electrical 2,000 bucks plumbing 2,000 bucks septic tank 2,500 bucks sole where we got about 5,000 bucks into so it adds up pretty quick but those are the basic costs in that and then finishings I mean it's to your taste you could spend less you could spend way more it all depends on what you want you know if we went with fiberglass insulation maybe a thousand bucks instead of 7,000 bucks but he gets to minus 40 degrees below Celsius here we really didn't want to skip out on insulation so so those are the costs that's what's associated with it anyways thanks a lot guys for watching the video thanks for subscribing to the channel I really didn't expect the response I got when I started posting some videos my first video I just grabbed my blackberry it'll walk through no editing and it's been viewed damn near 400,000 times so that was crazy but it's the mix you know it's been been nice talking to a lot of people online that that have the same kind of interest and same ideas enough that I get online much because we don't have regular internet here but we have a phone booster that works if you sit about 24 inches away from it so that would be why I haven't been uploading videos and giving you guys an update but from the future in this channel you're gonna see homesteading videos you know we're gonna talk raising livestock growing your own food in the winter where I may do an indoor indoor throw setup stuff like that so there are lots of cool stuff to look forward to I want to show you guys so be sure to subscribe hit that subscribe button below if you haven't already hit that thumbs up button and share this video on social media with your friends you know this portable building converters converted into a home that's a great option you can save some money you can do it on the cheap and if your credits really buggered up you know that's that's easy too because everybody and their dog is offering rent going on these buildings so you can you can do it cheap if you want to go that route but for us we're mortgage free I'm 24 years old oh it's 22 we don't have a mortgage anymore we both work two days a week this is great and this is the only reason we were able to do that so we're really happy with what the choices we've made anyways guys thanks again and we'll see you next time [Music]
