I hope your heart was blessed by the praise and worship we just enjoyed. Did you hear the words of hope and assurance in every one of these songs that they just sang for us? Hopefully you or those who are watching with you might have joined in and sung along with them. Welcome to this experience in what is new for us as having church in an empty room. It's our first time to try something live. For those of you who are familiar with First Baptist, you know that we record all of our services and then In Touch Ministries takes the recording over to their ministry headquarters and they work their magic, and I mean it's really magic. They clean it, they edit it, they get it production ready, and then it goes out to all the world. So for us to be sending a signal out live and in real time, this is uncharted territory for us. So we know it may not be perfect, but thank God it doesn't have to be perfect. What matters is that our church family needs to be connected during this time, so we're trusting God that he knows our heart and he's gonna bless our effort to draw our church together virtually to worship the Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth. I want to clarify that your viewing experience may be limited by the device that you're using or by the strength of your internet connection, so you may have to reboot the viewer several times in order for it to give you the experience you need, but I'm asking you not to give up, just to keep trying and relaunching, and I pray that eventually you'll have a perfect viewing experience for the rest of our livestream. You know when I walked into the room this morning, I was tempted to face some discouragement because it's Sunday morning and it's time for church and these seats are all empty, but I had to change my perspective on that and realize that these seats are a representation of the people that I know would be here if they could and in looking out over this sea of empty seats, I had to think about the fact that every one of these empty seats represents someone who is at home watching right now. So even though it feels like you're not here, through this livestream you really are here, and I want to thank you for logging on and being part of this with us. I also want to provide you with some assurance that we are taking every necessary precaution to do safe social distancing and to wipe down surfaces because we have, even though it's a skeletal team, with our media crews and those who are there on the platform leading us in worship, we're still doing everything we can. In fact, you'll see between me and the platform, Pastor Brooks, it's like a football field. We're taking social distancing to a whole new level. Just so you know, we're trying to be as careful as we can because we wanted to even sacrifice to bring this to you today. May God use it to bless his people. We need this time and I'm asking God to draw us close. I'd like to read some Scripture for you if I could. It's from the 103rd Psalm. You know verse one. It says, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, "and all that is within me, bless his holy name." But I want to pick up in verse eight where he says, "The Lord is compassionate and merciful, "slow to get angry, filled with unfailing love. "He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. "He does not punish us for all our sins. "He does not deal harshly with us as we deserve "for his unfailing love toward those who fear him "is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. "He has removed our sins as far from us "as the east is from the west. "The Lord is like a father to his children, "tender and compassionate to those who fear him, "for he knows how weak we are "and he remembers we are only dust." And surely our loving God knows that all of us are dealing with fear and anxiety during this time that we've never faced. We want to turn our hearts to him in prayer and ask him to give us the strength that we need. Will you join me as we go to God in prayer? Our heavenly Father, how grateful we are that through the gift of technology our church can gather together even from places all over Metro Atlanta, all over Georgia, and even around the world. We thank you that your Spirit is with us because wherever your people are, that's where you are. Father, you know that we face a crisis and through the crisis we hear your voice calling out, "Turn to me, turn to me." Your call is to us, your call is to people who have yet to place their faith in Jesus Christ. Science is not our answer. The government cannot solve this problem. Only you can, and we are desperately crying out to you to heal our land, to heal our nation, our world, to stop this disease in its tracks. We pray that as we continue to worship we will sense what you are saying to your people during this critical hour and we make our prayer in the mighty, all powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. If you were here today in person no doubt you would be looking forward to our choir and orchestra as they would be preparing our hearts for the word of God. Well, it's Sunday morning and it's going to be the same. You're going to be thrilled by our choir and orchestra in a pre-recorded version of their song called "How Excellent" featuring Mark Ivey as our special musical guest along with our choir and orchestra. ♪ Is thy, thy name ♪ ♪ Thy name ♪ (cheering) Oh Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth. There's nobody in this room but me and the media team and that praise team but I am ready to shout Hallelujah because I needed to be reminded that God is greater than the crisis we face. His name is excellent. His power is all-consuming. There is nothing too difficult for our great God. If we can't have the full choir and orchestra up there in the loft then rolling that is the next best thing to it. You know, I told you a moment ago that we are taking added precautions. As a matter of fact, you can't even get onto this campus without going through a security checkpoint and having your temperature taken. Had to do it this morning, actually. Yesterday, I came over here for our technical run through for today's livestream, just to work out all the glitches and they were doing the temperature checks and I pulled onto the property and got in line behind the other cars and, sure enough, I rolled my window down and they stuck the thermometer under my tongue and I sat there and patiently waited for it to beep and they said, "We hate to inform you "but you have a fever." I said, "Do what?" They said, "Yeah, it's 99.9 "and you're the highest registering here. "Everybody's been normal." They said, "Do you have chills? "Are you feeling weak?" I said, "No, I feel great." They said, "Are you having symptoms? "Is your nose running? "Are you coughing?" I said, "No, I feel great." They said, "We don't know what to do "because this fever is elevated." This is the truth. I'm not making this up. And then it dawned on me that I had been sipping on a piping hot cup of coffee on my whole ride down to the church and I'd just taken a swig before I pulled into the property. So, thank you Jesus, after waiting for five minutes they stuck that thermometer back in and I was 98.6. I just want to give God all the praise and glory that it was just the coffee that created the false alarm that I had a fever. But you know, there are a lot of people for whom it's not a false alarm and we want to remember in prayer all of those who are suffering from the ravages of this virus. As we think about our ability to bring you this livestream experience, I just want to come out and tell you the only reason we're able to do it is because this church family gives its tithes and offerings on a regular basis. So, you see, through the years we've been able to accumulate the resources to make this livestream possible. This is a time when all churches are going to feel the crunch of financial strain. Our church will feel it as well and I want to make an appeal that if you are a member here or a regular attender and it would be your custom if you were here this morning to come with an offering in an envelope and drop it in the offering plate in a service like this, would you give careful thought and prayer to going back to our homepage, the same homepage you use to access this livestream, and you'll notice across the top of the home page there's a tab highlighted in yellow that says Give. If you click on that Give tab, it'll take you to our giving page. I want you to be careful and understand that we know there are people out there whose hours have been cut back or wiped out altogether. There are people out there who go to our church who don't have any money right now to give. We're not talking to you because we know you cannot give what you do not have. But I do know there are people who can give and perhaps there are people who, because they're so used to giving in church they're not quite sure how to give online, it may be a new experience and it may be a little intimidating, but I'm asking you to give it a try because, listen, the doors may be closed but the wheels of this ministry are still in full motion. Yesterday, we had compassion soldiers delivering meals to seniors, contact free drop offs on the front porch. But through an email that went out last week, we found where there were some needs of people who weren't able to get out and get food that they needed so I'm just telling you the doors are closed, but ministry is going ahead full strength. Please consider making a gift to the church today as soon as this livestream is over. Please let that truth resonate in your heart. We still have some unknown territories to chart in the future, some new stories that we're not prepared to hear about as statistics will most likely rise, but fear not. The God of angel armies is right there by your side. Our church staff has worked to prepare a coronavirus resource page for you. You can access it by going to our website, fba.org, and then just slide the cursor down to the coronavirus resource link and that will take you to a series of links that we have to family conversation guides, ways to talk to your kids about what's going on, and even some suggestions for some fun activities while you are all cooped up together. We have Bible study resources that we've assembled there and we also have some links to the county governments of Metro Atlanta as well as state of Georgia resources and some federal agencies. We worked hard to make that available and I hope you will avail yourself of it. I'd like to close with the blessing of Aaron in Numbers, chapter six, beginning in verse 24. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you. The Lord be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. That is our prayer for you. We'd love to hear from you. You can drop us a line on the email address online@fba.org. You can share your prayer requests with us. Even before we went to livestream this morning someone handed me this one from our members Shadrach and Debbie Harrison. Shadrach's one of our main greeters there at the north entrance every Sunday morning. He writes, "Dear Dr. George, I'm praying for you "and the church as you prepare "and deliver your streaming service today. "I'm also asking for the church to pray for my family. "Yesterday we lost the matriarch of our family, "my mother, to natural causes. "In the last few years, Mom lost her two youngest sons "and my father, her husband of 66 years. "Through it all she was strong and faithful. "Please pray for us to continue to be strong "and faithful like she was." So while all this is going on, our church members are still dealing with every day occurrences, loss of loved ones, and grief like this. It's just a reminder that our doors may be shut but our ministry is still alive and well and Shadrach, we're praying for you and we're praying for all of you. If you have a need like that, you send it online at fba.org and I promise you we will pray for you. In the meantime, we're gonna be trusting God and I hope you plan on joining us for our livestream next Sunday morning at 10:30. God bless you. (gentle music)
