with your name on it this was for michael this was for dom this was for this person and so i just want you to take a minute to look at him and ask him about his robe and his victories for you because in war you can't be pretty so father we take back the thing the thing that this small enemy has tried to steal from us and we might feel stupid doing this lord but we want to respond well when the god should live as jesus lived jesus when we give our hearts to him comes to live inside of us and he lives through us mark 16 says he went about with them working signs and wonders walking along with them you say what does the christian life look like it looks like the life of christ it looks like the life of jesus sin should not be natural to the true christian sin should not feel good to the true christian the bible says that he who sins is a slave to sin jesus has made it so clear so easy so black and white [Music] when you give your heart to jesus you receive a new nature the very nature of the lord himself i say this to you every week he doesn't change you when he saves you he replaces you and he saves you him for you you for him with every head about an eye closed tonight the king is here tonight his presence his glory is felt we we we feel the lord we know him we know that he's here and this king conquers he is a conquering king and if you belong to this conquering king your sinful habits should be conquered life is too short to risk your eternity the bible says make your election sure in other words there's much you can gamble on in life your soul is not one of them we need you to get baptized in water you want to get baptized in the water whether you think you do or not trust me you want to get baptized in water we can help you do that fourthly give your life in the presence of the lord with a people root yourself into a family of people who love jesus that's called church if you're from this area we would love to walk with you if you have another church plug people in our community have been affected and technologies and feeding elderly people who can't get to the store or don't feel comfortable enough i think we've given over about a hundred and thirty thousand dollars or invested that in creating a safe the safest place possible for you so i hope i hope you appreciate that and all of us are believing again for the day where we don't have to turn people away where we can be in here again and uh be up here at the altar uh loving jesus together we we all miss this but but i think i think it's possible to have a wisdom and humility as a movement that that shows the people of our city that we love them and that we're doing our best and at the same time gathering so that hope can flow through the gospel amen the same at jesus 20 i believe god is going to give us uh the the opportunity to to do a an event and we're gonna be social distancing the field we're gonna be taking incredible measures that's the reason we went outside this year because it's a much safer environment uh there's field after field that we can use and um so many of you have been asking i know some of you actually asked via email on social media hey what precautions are we taking you can go to a link i think on the website and it will direct you but i just want you to know we are doing that and we feel like it's pleasing the lord and we believe thousands are going to be saved healed and filled with the holy spirit amen amen okay all right put your seat belt on the millers are with us tonight and and yeah and can we just thank the lord for what he's done through upper room to bless the world it's amazing and you know uh my life's been radically impacted by upper room and and who they are the way they touch the lord's heart and minister to the lord's heart and so much of that is spilled over into our school environment and our church environment and michael and lo are the dearest friends they're they're loyal michael they actually serve on on our national eldership a team of just fathers and mothers who who walk with us and i won't tell you the rest but the rest of the people are phenomenal and if you serve on an eldership team you get a lot of phone calls i as a miller for a lot of advice and but really the way they love jesus the way they walk and pursue his heart is very rare and it's really beautiful and beyond that who they are as people they're wonderful faithful jesus loving people and it's really an honor to have two leaders of this caliber in uh in the house tonight and we feel like jesus image and upper room have a an end time assignment that's knit in the oil of the spirit the greek oil of the spirit the greek olives but we feel this assignment together and interestingly enough i told miller i preached it up a room i think two weeks ago and um i said bro it's just amazing to me you're like the only church i know that meets at five o'clock on a sunday night and we are ministering to the lord at the same time even though we're in different time zones and to see the crossover to have them here joel and alyssa and me be there a few weeks ago and it's just a real privilege so can we can we stand and embarrassingly honor family tonight can we do that let's honor you lord what a precious precious night amen amen well thank you um wow i'm i'm blushing i think uh thank you michael it uh it has been such a sweet friendship i think i talked to michael outside of my community i talked to michael coulianos the most uh he and i are on the phone constantly and he's talking about you he i've watched god birth the heart of a pastor in michael and and really it's it's it's the heart of a father but to see the way that he carries this community and he loves this city it is it's awesome um you guys have uh two very special leaders and um we are excited to be with you tonight i'm expecting that jesus is gonna do something um that i know he's done something but uh something is building up tonight and this is my beautiful bride hey so we uh we we're gonna tag team um which sometimes goes really really well and sometimes we need counseling after it so uh we're gonna tell michael and jessica yeah i think we're staying with michael and jess we'll have some some time with him tonight um but there were a couple of things just uh out of the gates that i wanted to to to share and and i wanted to start just praying with some people it was what we were in the vein of um during worship which joel and elissa so special are they in here yet they haven't made it back but uh we we do life with joe and alyssa in fact my son asked me this week if joel is uncle joel he was confused because his sister said joel's not an uncle and i said well we can call him uncle joel but joel and ellis are at our house all the time we do family with them we love them and so it's so sweet to have them here but something we really value that i know you value is rightly responding to jesus when jesus comes into the room he's the guest of honor but as soon as he shows up he's the host he's leading the meeting and the way that the team dialed in to king jesus but specifically jesus as our victor jesus as the conquering king and and one of the things that i felt like from out of the gates i wanted to to address is something i learned um this was last week i learned it about buffalo now i i like i like bison i like to eat bison i don't know if you one likes to eat bison but i was doing some research on uh on bison jerky and i found this company called into the storm and it's actually uh one of it's a crossfit guy that's a hero of mine but he started a company called into the storm it's bison jerky and he was explaining why he named his company into the storm and uh and he was talking about the differences between buffaloes and cows and he said as a storm emerges cows when they feel the winds and they see the clouds they run away from the clouds and they go with the wind but bison even though they're similar to cows their instincts are different what they do is they herd up and they figure out which way the wind's blowing and they walk into the wind and towards the storm and i felt tonight that some of you are going to be commissioned to walk into the storm i think many times we as believers we want to run from the storm but i believe jesus is posturing us in this hour as his people to walk boldly into storms in faith and so i wrote this down and as we were flying from dallas today dallas was just one of those heavy foggy like just dreary days you couldn't see uh out our backyard very far we drove to the airport and it was just overcast it was kind of blah and we got in the airplane and as we took off we took off right into the overcast into the cloud and as we started ascending all of a sudden the windows went just completely you know filled with clouds you couldn't look out of them little turbulence hit more turbulence but then all of a sudden there were blue skies above the clouds and i felt tonight as we were ascending that all of a sudden many who had clouds hanging over them you saw the skies above the clouds and there's something about us setting our minds on things above and i feel tonight the lord wanted to deliver i felt like there was a substantial amount of you and us of anxiety and fear uh i woke up this morning just with anxiety physical anxiety on my back and like the storm or the heaviness as they were singing into the heaviness that praise removes heaviness i really believe we need to acknowledge that and just pray for those in the room that have physical anxiety that the lord wants to set you free from that tonight and so if that's you would you just stand to your feet safe place but we are going to pray for you and i believe the lord is going to release a peace thank you awesome all right i want to put your hand on your your head and i just declare that you have the mind of christ and a helmet of salvation is upon that mind come holy spirit thank you jesus thank you lord thank you for the spirit that renews the mind holy spirit touch these minds and i pray lord that anxiety and fear would leave in the name of jesus lord lord that your perfect love your perfect love is present it is here and i pray in the name of jesus lord that these minds can ascend so that they can go above the storm that their minds set on things above lord seated in heavenly places or that they could renew their minds right now that he who is in you is greater he who is in you is greater and though the winds blow so the rains come [Music] you are in him and we just declare jesus your peace upon their minds that your peace would saturate their minds and god we just repent of lesser thinking i actually wrote down on the way here i wrote down a low mind is a heavy heart higher is lighter higher is lighter i just see minds being renewed being set on things above in the name of jesus lord above the circumstances above feelings god we just put these minds in the place of faith in the name of jesus thank you holy spirit [Music] there it is [Music] just receive his peace thank you jesus lord you died on gal gotha the place of the skull lord we just submit our thoughts to you lead the blood of jesus over these minds yes [Music] and where it's a couple of you where there's been almost tormenting thoughts [Music] you just silence the accuser tonight we just hold court and we we declare a cease and desist to those voices those tormenting voices that they would leave in the name of jesus [Music] god's with you tonight he'll be with you tomorrow that's where fear comes in it's it's not seeing him tomorrow he's here today he will be there tomorrow he's faithful he's going to lead you so you just pray lord freedom from minds in jesus name amen and amen i just want to read this psalm over you we just keep standing psalm 27 verse 5 for he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble he will conceal me under the cover of his tent he will lift me high upon a rock and now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me we declare over you the anxiety is not yours it's your enemy it's your enemy it's one of those tags on his robe that he paid for that he's marching through i i've beaten this enemy so jesus we lift you up and we thank you that you set us upon a rock i declare over these ones that there's no condemnation for those who are in christ jesus yes lord that you are the righteousness of god in christ jesus we stand on this rock lift up our heads above our enemies all around us if you're standing up can i have you do something with me um the bible says that we will offer uh sacrificial shouts of joy in his tent it talks about in the day of trouble he'll deliver me and i just i just see what i what i feel like the enemy's done he's just put a bullhorn up next to your temple and he is just declaring accusations intimidation and i just see you running towards these circumstances filled with faith maybe jesus is lord tonight let me say that again maybe jesus is lord tonight maybe jesus is lord maybe jesus is lord of the circumstance of the relationship of the need maybe he's lord and when his lordship when when faith hits in his lordship you enter into these circumstances differently and i feel like we need to just kind of like shock the heart a little bit and sometimes when we shout we awaken our soul and i feel like to some of you it's like awake awake awake it's the moment to be on the offensive it's the moment to run into the storm it's the moment to put the word in your mouth and to declare it i just feel a zeal for you i feel like he's roaring over you and you're gonna roar with him you are not a victim to this thing you are not the tail you're the head you are not a victim to your circumstances you're above your feelings the just walk by faith you are a person of faith you a a son of daughter and so here's what i want to do i just want to say 15 seconds we're going to do it that long but for 15 seconds you're going to shout at the top of your come on divine power there's something that's going to awaken it's like we're downshifting and moving forward in a real significant way so get your you know just let's do this do this with me come on all right on the count of three ready one two three jesus there it is wow there it is all right hey come on let's walk differently jesus is lord he is the lord tonight all right be seated um there was two other things i wanted to do before we hop into our word is there something you wanted to do okay um well i we were we were uh driving here tonight as well and we were listening to the lettuce worship guys on uh the mall of dc which uh sean floyd's a good friend of mine and just what he's been doing and and and what what's happening on the mall of dc which if you don't know about it it was just a day of prayer for our nation and lou engel got up and lou was sharing specifically on the uh issue of abortion and just praying for god's purposes of the supreme court uh nomination tomorrow and he was just walking us through the history that he's had now 16 17 years of that and then they went into a time of intercession and during intercession lou interrupted the prayer and lou talked about praying for president trump and he said in 2017 there was a group of witches that got together and i guess it was in dc on the mall of dc didn't say where that was but a group of witches got together and there was a concerted effort to curse donald trump and it was predominantly women and uh and lou went into a season as only again of fasting and praying um for our nation and for our president and uh he went into a dream a dream that he had during the fast and during the dream um he saw some women emerge on a field and he talked about a mighty army of women arising and as as he said that i don't know what the rest of the dream is i need to i need to figure it out but in the middle of it like the holy spirit just hit me in the stomach and uh and i saw one of the things i wanted to to just honor michael uh tonight is how he's empowered jess and just the way you two do ministry together and and and it it's very similar to uh it's awesome so special so good it's true it's true so it's what michael said you're welcome yes so the way that he has empowered her it's it's it's just it's rare but i think it's one of the marks of a house and uh that's what this is it's a house it's a family and it has a mother and a father and anyways as we were driving here i all of a sudden uh saw larisa and jessica doing ministry together and and i went into this like it was a cute thing where it was like jess and low and it was like jess and low like a podcast or jess and low and and and i was thinking like like women's ministry you know like chess and low like aglow ministries or something like really kind of feminine but then all of a sudden i'm going to swear with this all of a sudden i'm just as low jess and low and then i was like j and l i heard the holy spirit say j and l and i heard jl like jl jl now some of y'all don't know who jl was but jl was a bad mama jamba in the old testament she was the woman where uh jabin one of the enemies of israel was coming through her town and jl welcomed her into her house and jl told jaben he said take a nap and jaben took a nap and while jaben was taking a nap j l took a tent peg put the tin peg on jabin's skull and spike and put the skull through his head and kill the dude and here's what i feel i feel like i feel like because you two are primarily moms that's what you do you you are knee-deep in kids but you're also full-time in ministry and i really feel like there's this there's this uh righteous like violent take the kingdom of god by like violent thing that the lord's going to instill in you all to zeal that that's going to raise up other women it's going to unlock this in other women it's going to unlock like the ferocious kind of lay hold of it thing in women like like what woman takes a tent peg and puts it through a full skull jl does and and and i think it's interesting that here's what i think is interesting is that she just found a household product like we think we think a 10 peg like what's a 10 peg a 10 peg to them is a household product they lived in a tent and so she just found something in her house and she said devil you ain't coming in here and she put that and i feel like i feel like what god's gonna do through y'all is he's gonna teach like because because i believe i believe the enemy is assaulting homes and mothers are are these gay keepers to our houses and to our kids but but i just don't feel like we're violent enough when it comes to that stuff and i feel like there's something inside of you too that's gonna open up and unlock with women this jl thing i'm telling you j and l j l j l jl i don't know if we're launching a ministry right now or what but i'm telling you there was something significant about it so did you want to say something because i just want to pray for y'all and i'm going in no i think you know in that story deborah i didn't know he was going to say any of this i didn't tell you because you would have said don't say that publicly uh but in that story it was debra told was it barrack i wish i didn't know yeah whoever he is he she told him because you're too scared to go today a woman is gonna have the victory and initially you're reading it and you think she's talking about herself but she's actually talking about this random woman that is in her tent that drives a tent peg into his head so it's just interesting how one woman opened the door to see another woman step into this you know [Applause] i just okay okay one funny thing is that there's this meme that says if you if you you want me at my proverbs 31 but you can't handle my judge's three which is jl [Applause] i'm just saying yeah i know okay yeah if you want me at my proverbs 31 you gotta handle my judges for that's so funny oh man anyways i'm telling you we just launched something significant it's gonna touch the generation amen all right baby well we love you guys that's that's my housekeeping i was going to try to launch an international women's ministry called jl tonight i i feel like i planted a seed so just pay attention watch what happens but i'm telling you i feel there's something the next move of god is going to be marked by women there's a there's a there's a there's this thing that he's unlocking in in women specifically um we we see him singing but we're going to see him preaching too and and it's just it's so needed in this hour we need mothers and fathers fathers and mothers god's raising up houses in this hour i i the lord told me this a while back when we planted the upper room he said there's many heralds but there's few houses meaning meaning there's many heralds that we know of but but he's going to start raising up peoples he's going to start raising up houses where the world looks and sees what family is like it looks into rooms like this and it or it walks into rooms like this and it's just transformed by the culture it's print transformed by the love that's in the room and and the way that uh the communities like this host the lord he's looking for houses that are marked by him and he's found a resting place here he's found a psalms 132 dwelling place and he's looking for that he's looking for people that will that won't change the subject that when he arrives it's enough it's sufficient that we'll just keep beholding him we'll keep looking at him we'll keep loving him and that lives are transformed from that place it's just real easy to move on it's really easy to change the subject it's real easy to make it about something else it's real easy to make it about you and your needs and your problems but when jesus shows up and we make room for him to do what only he can he has this ability to meet all of our needs he has this ability to meet every need and so one of the things that i think will be unique about this home is that this home probably won't look like other homes that you've been in because i believe this is a new type of home it's a new type of home that's going to endure the elements that are ahead because if you don't know it there are some significant things that we're facing as a culture there's significant things that gen z millennials are facing and i just believe that the lord is raising up a new breed of leaders and with that is coming a new way to do church many young people um back home church to them is a dirty word like in dallas texas it's the most it's so there's so many churches but church is a dirty word but in communities and environments like this he's reintroducing them to himself and his house many of them have attempted to run there they've just given up on religion they've given up on what they saw and they're looking for something fresh and new and jesus is ready to introduce himself in a fresh and new way and i just believe this house is one of those expressions i know that michael and jess have been heralding this and they've been marking houses like ours and god is now saying i'm going to take your message and i'm going to put it in a people i'm going to put it in a home i'm going to put it in a local community that's going to impact a region the light that shines the furthest shines the brightest at home and this is going to be a bright light that sets this city on a hill it's one of many works that he's doing in orlando but it is so precious to the lord he is so jealous for his purposes that it's really important who he's calling into this home in this season he's not it's also really important who he's not calling into this home but there is a line and some of you are crossing over and he's calling you in to the fold and it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have to go through a membership class or you're going to have to fill out a form or you go to this class or that class what it means is inside your heart you feel the call and you say yes to the lord to come here you're not saying yes to michael and jess you're not saying yes to the hot cup of coffee that they serve you and the program because it ain't about you it's about him calling you into family and he's calling a core he's calling a remnant he's calling mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and he's going to teach you how to do life together because listen the issues in this room and the people that come messes occur it's hard doing family it's hard really to walk this out with the people in this room i get like the service i love when elissa does her thing and joel does her thing and when michael stands up and reads scripture and what it does to my art like i love all of that and i want to keep doing it but there's something called life outside of those doors and it and the things that we experience in here have to grow legs and mature us to walk this thing out but we do it together you're not alone in that and so you get called into family like this and i want to specifically speak to mothers and fathers in the room like older uh older older and when i say old i would maybe consider myself old right now i'm 44. so let's just say me and older 40 and above because you look and you see a bunch of young people singing you see young people dancing and you're like man i love the zeal but man i remember when i once was like that or man i love just kind of coming in and putting my toe in it but this is a young people's thing would fit in here i don't know how to fit in here and that's how i like it it happened all the time uh at the beginnings of our community but there were a couple of fathers in the early days a couple of fathers who became pillars in our house and and and now there's now there's dozens of them but our community was built by the fathers and the mothers that said yes to the young adults into the three-hour services and to the early morning prayer meetings they would just show up and they would begin to pray for young people they would invite young people into their homes they would invite them to lunch there was no formal like adopt a millennial program that we had but in the spirit it was adopt a millennial like if you came in and you were older all of a sudden the holy spirit just you had this little family of millennials that you started raising up and this adopted millennial program is happening here so if you are a mother or father i just say open your eyes and look around for young couples look around for young people because it's the malachi 4-5 thing that's how family is being built he's turning the hearts of the fathers back to the sons and sons to the fathers and daughters to mothers mothers to daughters the holy spirit will be poured upon fathers and sons daughters and mothers and he's building communities building family in this house and it's really precious it's really special wait for structure to come i just want to commission you guys just to take a deep breath the less structure at this phase the better life in the house creates structure and there's a lot of life in this house and it will create the structure that's needed but enjoy the life don't look for the structure we tend to try to find the structure and hope life fills it but that's not what's happening here god is filling this with life and that life will demand structure i love that you guys are overseeing the new believer program well the new believer program had to have popped out because there's new believers here what happened life came structure emerges life comes hey let's put something in the back and and what happens over time is structure starts to mature based on the needs that the life demands or the yeah the needs that the life has and so why am i saying that i'm just saying it because you may not go outside and find 20 ministries and this is how you get plugged in but what you do is you keep showing up and you keep getting in the presence of jesus with one another because people living in the proximity to the presence together regularly transform cities it's people living in proximity to the presence of jesus regularly that transform cities and from that is all that we need structures will come there's something very specific for this community it's going to be a journey oh i am so encouraged and excited about what god's about to do in this place there are many heralds but there are a few houses and this house will be known it will be known it will be known for the dna will be known for the culture it will be known for what you embody orlando will know jesus because of this house florida will be touched because of this house the united states will be touched because of what god does in this family it's really important i i'm not i wish i wish i could convey the level of conviction that i have because i'm not i'm not trying to throw a pep rally for jesus church i'm trying to like impart to you the significance of what you're being invited into and the journey that you're in and on okay honey well along those lines i feel like there are families here who it's almost like you've been hungering for the lord you've been seeking the lord a long time and you haven't wanted to play church the way that you've seen it you've just had a hunger for more and it's as if one family member came to a sunday night and they they were like oh my goodness i think this is what we've been looking for this is what we've been waiting for and they go home and say hey guys i think i i think i found it can anyone relate to this experience uh i think i found it and then and then everyone else is kind of peeking out the door going is it are you for real is it safe and i just i i felt like the lord sent michael and i here to say to you tonight for those of you who are maybe i feel like there are people who drive a long ways to get here on sunday nights because you're hungry hungry for the lord and i want to tell you i feel convicted of the holy spirit that this is a safe house these people are not going to change the subject they are going to hunger and thirst for the lord they are going to minister to him they're going to lift him up he is going to be king of this house and so i just want to encourage you that if that's what you've been looking for you've found a safe place and now i feel the lord calling you into an investment like a am i talking about your finances yes but that's that's a side item an investment in like i'm all in here my heart my time my energy my relationships you know one of the things michael and i always say is that we lost the right to choose our friends when we wholly gave ourselves to the lord that our relationships he he creates he forms and we follow we say yes we don't just pick the people that like we have things that we both like to do and hang out um he does it so i i had this image of us taking communion together tonight and i i heard the lord say this phrase he said you partake of my body as a body that when he instituted this meal he did it he didn't do it one-on-one he didn't just come to michael or or peter or john and say eat my flesh and drink my blood it was at a table with a group of brothers who argued who were competing who had been walking together who've been seeing each other's mass seeing each other's victories and failures seeing each other's strengths and weaknesses they've been day after day watching each other sacrifice different things and he instituted this meal he said i love what you guys do you're constantly eating jesus he said eat my flesh and drink my blood and that is what this place is about you come here and you're just you're beholding his beauty you're gazing on him you're consuming the lord and now what i feel like the lord is doing is he's bringing you to do it together now and you're gonna have to take another courageous step to eat of the lord in the midst of imperfect people around you and that's where it becomes a little uncomfortable a little more scary because we've all been hurt by people right and in the flesh sheep bite each other but in the spirit we eat him and we drink him and then we feed each other what we've consumed and and so someone comes to me and says i've done this they confess a sin to me or i'm weak or have anxiety or i'm broken or this is going on my marriage and instead of me accusing condemning or judging i say ah let's let's eat the lord let's see jesus here and you experience the fullness of christ in a way you simply will not and cannot as an individual you cannot just do this in your home watching a scream it must be done in relationship it's how you were designed for ever and ever we will be feeding on the lord in family jesus said don't worry my in my father's house there's many rooms i'm going to prepare a place for you we're all going to a father's house and we're going to like be bunk buddies like we are in it for a long time together and on this side it's oh it's it's messy and beautiful and i feel like this is what the holy spirit is inviting you into as a body to really become the body of christ where paul talks about a beautiful inner dependence not codependence but a beautiful interdependence as you depend on the head you get your directives from the head but you're you feel what the rest of the body feels you rejoice when one part rejoices and you suffer when another part suffers a couple of weeks ago michael was like he was walking around the house and he would randomly do this and go oh or lean on something and grunt and i was like what in the world and he had a splinter i'm telling you that thing he had to lay on the kitchen table and and i had a flashlight on it and i had these i had to wear readers to see it and the tweezers and all the kids were around because dad was over there wincing and it was we definitely need to go to counseling it was the size of a hair but listen it really hurt man i promise hello paper cut i'm telling you that the tiniest thing in the most insignificant part of your body can hurt your whole body it can it can impede you from functioning well and you were meant to to be dependent on one another in that way you were meant to feel when someone around you is hurting you're meant to hurt with them you're meant to suffer to mourn with them to rejoice with them and this takes courage to open your life up to be vulnerable to someone around you to walk around outside and risk a splinter because guess what you're gonna get them and you're gonna get them in this room from each other and then we get to minister true mercy to one another it's where we experience the fullness of the lord it's why he says confess your sins one to another so that you can be healed because something happens different than when i'm alone and i say jesus i've done this i confess this sin to you but something profoundly holy happens when a sin is confessed here to hear and the eyes of another person who's received mercy from god then extends the mercy to me something profound happens i mean let me tell you in the last upper room's been going for ten and a half years in the last two weeks we have walked through in in just in our because you know up rooms big but so our immediate community is a little smaller just as our family but we've walked through um there was someone who's who needs to raise money for an adoption but has none has no money but has been asked by a birth mom to adopt this baby in two hours our staff of predominantly millennials raised eight grand giving like this is what community does we have walked through someone dying we have walked through cold off engagements i'm telling you in the last two weeks this is a normal month we've walked through grievous sin adultery we've walked through and and we've done it together in community and it is it is it's uncomfortable it's messy but the power of someone confessing their infidelity and then the community around them saying i forgive you i forgive you um i won't throw a stone at you i'm telling you we see the fullness of christ in a way that you just can't see him another way if you're only watching at home or you're only attending conferences and you're not in the mess with his body and so i just feel like the lord is inviting you in if you're here tonight i feel like you're here for a reason that the lord's going would you be all in here with what i'm doing would you step in to the messy places would you dare to open up your life and your heart to someone around you could you risk a lunch a dinner a coffee a phone call a hey i'm struggling or hey are you okay or hey i had a dream about you can you tell me how you're doing or hey do you need somewhere to live we have an extra room in our home and it's all the awkward uncomfortable messy things but gone are the days when churches are going to arrange all those things for you we are used to that american christianity we are used to the church you just oh i'm going to sign up for that well this is the this is the forum where you sign up to if you need someone to stay in your in a room in your home no this is where the holy spirit leads you and you interact with one another and you become the body of christ you know in in first corinthians chapter 11 he paul's getting on to them for the way that they took communion there were people getting drunk on the communion there were people that were eating too much there were people who like came hungry and and so he gives this command he says when you come together wait for one another can also be translated share with one another and so there's this this beautiful humility where it's like i am gonna partake of christ together with you i'm gonna i'm gonna serve jesus to you and we're gonna consume him together you know the bible says it that the world will know that we follow him by our love for one another and there is a love that we possess that is it doesn't make sense it's it's it we possess a love that's offensive it's a love that the world looks on and go how could you be so gracious how could you forgive seventy times seven why are you still loving that person i'm really like come meet my jesus so i know you're gonna launch into the this is where we have awkward transitions yeah i know you're gonna launch into the we're gonna just do more on the on communion if you open your bibles with john chapter 13 this will are you guys with us are you tracking this will set the table for the table i i'll loan you something from our house it's it's called the table we call we use this phrase all the time we need to go to the table uh when racial unrest hit in june we went to the table right now we're in a crazy election cycle we have a series where we're coming to the table we have democrats actually that are born again believe it or not they're in our church in texas um i'm just kidding i'm totally kidding that's funny in texas it's not in florida and but then we also have republicans that are born again there you go i got both sides of the aisle but the table has a way of disarming the conversation you can have conversations at the table that you can on your social media feed you can learn things around the table that you can't on the nightly news cycle there's something at the table where we listen to one another where we seek to understand the other person where we ask good questions i've seen people get really honest about their sexuality when it comes around the table i've watched people entrenched in homosexuality come out of that lifestyle at the table i was just sitting with a brother who returned back to the upper room and when i met him he was just fully fully engrossed in the homosexual lifestyle we were launched originally upper room was launched in the homosexual district of downtown dallas he was he was just he was miserable and he just started showing up in rooms like this no one ever got after him about his sexuality he just started encountering jesus he just started encountering jesus he just started encountering jesus no one was necessarily concerned about his sexuality we were focused on jesus and when jesus came into the room and jesus saw him and his sexual brokenness and his woundedness jesus started looking at it jesus started just loving him jesus just started drawing him in and before we got to the table the lord had brought him there and we started discussing around these elements his past and we started realizing how these elements were specifically given for those wounds of his past and those lies started unraveling and those wounds started healing and he realized it wasn't about his sexuality all along it was about his identity in the lord but it was around the table that that happened it's just such a special place when we come to the table when we center around his blood and his body and i i've just been really wrecked again with the love of jesus and how utterly different he is how radically he loved there were no disclaimers there were no conditions and this story will prove that to you it's at the table and he's instituting the meal that would be one of the ordinances for our gatherings that we gather around this table and we gather for this meal this is when he would institute it in john chapter 13 verse 21. but look at the circumstances that he instituted it and remember we're talking about eating this together so we talk a lot of times about jesus feeding us this meal that i've prepared for you [Music] a table in the presence of your enemies but i want to tell you that he's prepared for us a table and that we have to take it together that we learn to take this together check this out when jesus this is verse 21 and john 13. when jesus had said this he became troubled in his spirit that word for troubled means impacted agitated affected he was stirred internally and he testified truly truly i say to you one of you will betray me i want you to see this is that judas and judas's actions were impacting jesus jesus was troubled by judas jesus was grieved by judas the reason i want to say that is because i think there's there's teachings that concern me when it comes to pastoral care in the body of christ and i believe that we do not have to live offended towards anyone but but we can be hurt by people it doesn't mean i'm going to live as a victim to that pain and wounded to that pain but my wife where did she go oh my gosh houdini there she is my my wife my wife can hurt me my wife can do things that impact me i i am not though i am not gonna make it ruin my day i'm not gonna go cry in a corner i'm not gonna let it create division i'm gonna openly communicate that to her and i'm gonna move closer to her but my wife can impact me she has that ability and jesus here in relationship with someone else what they did impacted him it troubled his spirit it agitated him are y'all does that make sense that's not this teaching but it could be another one but he says truly should i say one of you will betray me and so the disciples begin looking at one another so jesus tells his disciples and they look at one another and they are at a loss to know which one he was speaking of so the disciples weren't aware there wasn't like judas wasn't you know the obvious choice according to them it was going to be a surprise who the betrayer would be and it's it's interesting in luke's account so this is john 13 21 jesus is troubled the disciples began looking at a wonder at lost for what they're going to do but in in luke's count you don't have to flip over there i'll flip over there real quick but in luke's account he gives a little more commentary as to what them looking at each other looked like so they start looking at each other trying to figure out who the person is and in luke's account it says this they began discussing them among one another which one of them was going to do this thing that jesus was speaking about and it says and there arose a dispute among them as to which one would be regarded to be the greatest this is the culture around jesus unfortunately it's sometimes still the culture around jesus today that we fall into comparison we fall into measuring sticks and it just falls short but the disciples didn't have the healthiest culture as they start arguing who's the greatest i actually think that culture is what led judas to betray jesus think about judas feeling insecure in an environment like that if he didn't feel like he measured up he would respond and react i think many people have been wounded by the culture in the church and if that's been you i'm sorry but this table is for that but okay let's move on verse 23 so they started looking at one another at a loss knowing which one it was going to be verse 23 there was reclining on jesus's bosom one of his disciples whom jesus loved it's like to the one that wrote that sentence and simon peter another disciple sees john at jesus's breast and he goes him tell us who it is who's the one that's going to betray him and so john leans back on the breast of jesus and he whispers to him jesus who's going to betray you i love jesus's response because jesus says it's the one for whom i shall dip the morsel and give it to him so he dip some morsel and he took it and he gave it to jesus or he gave it to judas the son of simon iscariot and i think it's interesting what jesus doesn't do jesus doesn't accuse judas jesus doesn't condemn judas jesus doesn't blame judas jesus doesn't become the victim to judas jesus doesn't take sides jesus doesn't get defensive jesus doesn't even stop him there was a lot jesus could have done in this moment but jesus did none of those things why because jesus loved judas and catch it from john's perspective for a second and we're going to take communion but so this isn't necessarily where they were at this is the passover seder and there were many elements to the seder so it wasn't just the juice and the bread but this was actually the part in the seder was called the dipping the sap and dipping the sop was a time where they would take a piece of bread and they would put it in horseradish and if you look at the passover seder when they dip the sop it was the moment in the seder where the host of the seder so the traditional said or the host of the seder they still do it today where the host of the seder would dip the socks or put horseradish on the saw and hand it to someone and it was proclaiming love and friendship now we know the layers to it that the bread actually represented his body but but get it from john's perspective just for a second just follow me and i'll end here so let's just say jesus is right here and john leans back and john goes jesus who's gonna who's gonna do it who's gonna betray you so jesus with john right here he takes the bread which is his body and he feeds his betrayer and so john resting on the heart of jesus gets to see from jesus's perspective judas the betrayer what does john see john sees unconditional love john sees the body that would be given for the many john gets a framework for ju for viewing judas and i think it's so crucial because because in this room in this room there's sin issues in this room as a community you're going to have to deal with the issues of sin in the room this week i was i was i was with someone that committed a significant sin against his spouse and against other leaders and people and it was just really really messy and i stood in front of everyone that was hearing this brother's confession it was such a beautiful moment when he brought forth his confession but i said this to everyone that was listening to this brother's confession i said there's no one in this room that's capable of rightly handling this sin except jesus no one can rightly respond to this sin except jesus jesus is the only one that can thoroughly put his hands upon this issue and address it in full to the totality of all that he's done and the ramifications of it he can run to the end of that and he can bring forth goodness and life and mercy and goodness and beauty out of ashes it's only him and so all that hear the sound of this confession we've got to get to this place we've got to get to the place where we see what jesus sees when he looks at this man and his sin and with his confession as we gathered around the table i could boldly declare to this brother after he confessed his sins where are your accusers because this this and the blood deal rightly and thoroughly with any and all sin that's in the room so here's how we want to end tonight is i would like you to take communion with someone in the room it could be a spouse it could be a friend if you're here by yourself we'll have some people raise their hands and you can put a mask on and take communion with someone else but i really want us to do it together and i felt like the lord was going to reconcile a couple of people tonight i felt like there was power in this message to bring reconciliation where there's been uh betrayal or there's been just disconnect and friendship where there's been distant i see some of you taking steps saying hey i want to come to the table with you and i want to make things right i felt like that was specifically in the school that there were some students and it's not even significant things it's just minor little rubs but the lord just was inviting you to a clean slate with that person that there's no more accusations building up in your heart you're gonna cut through that narrative that you're making up about your spouse or a friend but that we would start to get honest around the table and say i want to view you through this let this be the lens of our love let this be the definition of our love for one another and our journey together as a family and may jesus church be known as a church that comes and leans on the bosom of jesus to view anyone that walks through these doors i have hope for you oh i could keep going but i'm not do you want to pray jesus jesus we we thank you we thank you that when you held up that bread and you handed it to judas you handed it to us lord yes yeah while we were enemies lord well we were your enemies while we were in sin while we were weak while we were in rebellion lord you fed us so we just lord till we have received mercy and we extend mercy oh jesus jesus [Music] it just makes you more beautiful we bless you we bless you let us not be the one that gets forgiven a billion dollar debt and doesn't release our debtors in a true way lord you said that we are all recipients of this grace and i thank you that there's not an expiration date so jesus we bring our hurts to you those who've been betrayed we bring a broken heart to you i just see the the lord pouring oil over hardened hearts hearts that have closed off because it's easy to love jesus and it's hard to love people so lord we take your body and we also feed our brothers and sisters your body we all humble ourselves before you and say thank you if you want to pray with someone we'll just give you 60 seconds i know you may be sitting next to someone but if you found someone you just want to pray with them and maybe there's someone you need to forgive maybe this just a response to this message how the lord's leading you this meal heals us it heals our hearts it heals our bodies but it can heal our relationships too so if you need to forgive someone just issue that just say their name jesus get the lens of the lord's love for that person and extend it jesus jesus bless you jesus lord for any in here that have been wounded in a church context i just feel the lord inviting you now even as you take his body and drink his blood that you would just say i'm willing for you to heal me here lord and i'm willing to come out of the cave that i've been in hiding i'm willing i don't know how but i say yes so i just lord for those hearts i just see you telling him jesus i'm willing help me thank you lord thank you jesus [Music] thank you for your body thank you for your blood jesus thank you jesus so i'm going to give you a commission from this place just as you're finishing it was in the context of the table after he gives the morsel to judas he says do what you need to do quickly and jesus judas immediately got up and left and the disciples were confused they didn't know where he was going they didn't know what he was doing but after judas left jesus then says this to his disciples in this setting he says a new commandment i give to you that you love one another even as i have loved you that you also love one another by this all men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another this commandment came from this table and it came from that setting so may the lord empower us to radically love one another around this table in the name of jesus amen amen can i can we pray for one more group of people uh just as we're closing for those that that have been wounded by church i really feel that uh the lord tonight is gonna liberate some hearts just to believe in the body one more time where you've been hurt by imperfect people where you've been wounded by leaders i really feel the lord tonight is saying would you forgive would you let that season go and would you come into this house just with a new expectation and so i'm going to have everyone stand to close but if that's you specifically i am going to ask you to lift up both of your hands and just say jesus that's me and i tonight lord i'm surrendering my definition of the word church to you church was your idea and lord would you redefine and renew my mind around your view of your church and would you do it with this family in the name of jesus lord would hope arise in hearts for what you're going to do through this prayer and i pray that you could just forgive any leader any pastor any any small group leader any minister anyone that has been in your life that has just fallen short of that to you that you could forgive especially where communities didn't rightly deal with sin and leader shortcomings where you were wronged where there was obvious error even still i just see you forgiving and just saying lord jesus i surrender and i want to trust again and ask that you would call me fresh and new jesus oh i bless you lord you are so good to us we love you we love your people we love your church for you're the head of it we're your body and it's amazing in jesus name amen amen thank you guys we love you yeah can we just love on them real quick they're just amazing you know i needed tonight like there's few people that make me as excited as the upper room family so thank you so much just for pouring it all out we love you i really feel like god just there was breakthrough that happened tonight and it started with worship and i really feel just to tell you guys hold on to that with everything that you have and don't let go of it we love you so much we will see you next week bye you
