hey guys welcome back to my channel this is karen lavender clothesline and today we are hitting the road we're gonna go out in the wild and see what we can find for reselling i'm gonna take you with me i think i'm gonna be filming on my gopro so hopefully the footage will come out good please hit the like and subscribe button right off the bat i'm going to say that and what else am i going to do today i think i might do another high profit thrift find to give you a sense of what's selling in my store and i might include some footage from a couple of weeks ago where i filmed me down in my basement pulling shipping for the morning just to show you give you a sense of how that all goes so thanks so much for hanging out with me if you are new here i'm a full-time reseller on ebay and i have made this channel to show you guys and share with you guys what i'm selling and what i'm finding when i go thrifting to yard sales to estate sales all the good things so hit that like and subscribe button and let's get on the road okay so today we are in the goodwill bins lancaster pennsylvania and i am just popping in to see a few friends and to see what i can find some days i just feel like digging so right away i find a pair of floral boots and you guys are going to have to forgive the way that i dig sometimes i'm just throwing things all over the place but i do try to be careful in not breaking anything in case somebody else wants something so i'm starting out with the mixed bins these are bins that are mixed with clothing and hard goods i'm not quite sure why they come out this way but right off the bat i find a coat that i'm interested in i thought this might have been one of the western duster coats the oil skin with the shoulder cape i've sold a few of those before pretty much right away i realize it's not a duster coat per se but it does have the leather collar it's like a western men's coat that i'm looking for some of the brand names i look for are filson ralph lauren the vintage wool rich ones and carhartt i've done really well with the duster coats especially if they have the cape shoulder so there i was looking for a brand but did not find it i wasn't quite sure how to get this box open and pretty soon i just gave up on it here right away i find a levi's jacket so i do inspect it to make sure that it's good and this jacket was in great shape i do wind up selling this for 24.77 and i think it took a couple of days so put that right in my cart the bins were really um disheveled i'm gonna say everything was caught up in wires and hangers it was a hard dig this day i think the outlets work great for a lot of resellers but for me it's it's really a big time waster not to say i never find good items but i think i do better in the regular goodwill stores here i found a handbag and it does have a usa tag it was an older handbag it felt like leather so i looked for the brand for quite a while but i could not find the branding i might have been looking right at it but a handbag like this i would want it to be branded so after a little while i gave up on it and here i'm spotting a little gold something or another i do always check to make sure that you know it's costume jewelry or just something of no value and i was kind of wondering what it was but that lasted about two seconds in my brain here i find a bracelet i always test elastic bracelets to make sure that the elastic is not stretched out and in the cart that went some days the struggle is real look at this big conglomerate of stuff crazy and here i'm finding a hitch to a car now while these don't bring a lot of money i did pop this in my cart in case i ever want to put a hitch on my jeep sometimes i think it'd be nice to pull a trailer to be able to pick up furniture when i want so while those don't bring a lot of money i did put that in my cart for purchase for myself a lot of times the items that i find in the bins are directly from the regular store and they weren't able to be sold so you'll see goodwill stickers on them but for items that we're looking at right here these are items that god directly dumped into these blue bins from the donation carts that people donate into here i'm taking a look at men's pants that a friend of mine brought over to me he was going to purchase them he's a reseller at a flea market and because the weight of an item is heavy sometimes you really have to calculate that to see if it's gonna be worth it or not at a dollar sixty four a pound these pants were probably two or three pounds because they had leather trim and the name is wranglers so i thought these were really nicely made for wranglers and that's why i gave them such a long consideration so there were two pairs this might have been a mistake leaving them behind but i thought with usps rates being so high that it might be too high a price for the buyer to pay shipping and here i'm looking at a chenille bed spread this is a true vintage gorgeous chenille bedspread with a pom-pom trim and another blanket that got donated this is a quilt chinese made you know just mass-marketed and it was quite heavy so while i consider both blankets i pretty much know right away the quilt i'm going to leave behind even though the pattern was really pretty because it was just so oversized and so heavy it would just kill the sale of it to ship that in my opinion but the chenille was much lighter and was just beautiful so i do put that in my cart right away but i'm pretty sure that i'm gonna buy that as long as there's no large flaws with it here i was just talking about the hitch to my friend and saying that it didn't have the pin but i thought it would be easy enough to pick up and i was wondering if it would fit the apparatus that's already on my car i don't know what the mount i guess it's called so that's what we were having a conversation about but i figured that i would ask for an individual price but you'd never want to pay for this by weight but a lot of times the outlet centers will give you an item price if it's a very heavy item and i did wind up paying 3.99 which i thought was more than fair because knew that probably would have cost me i'm guessing about 25 and it's nice to have that in my garage so like i said if i want to put a trailer on my car you know i have a hitch all ready to go i just need the pin here i'm looking at a photo album i check every photo album just in case there are old photos in it you'd be surprised how many times old photos can bring good money gardening books still always catch my attention i took the master gardeners course so still have a great love for plant books and just anything having to do with gardening it's amazing what gets donated a whole bag of gold trim hangers i don't even know what that is just little uh string probably for ornaments or something like that it could even be a gift box string here i'm spotting a tommy hilfiger shirt and i believe this is vintage i'm thinking probably 90s i don't know um i did not comp that but i don't imagine that would have brought high money so today i was really trying to focus on things that would bring good money and here anything that catches my attention a little lily pulitzer cosmetic bag now this store does play music so that's why i'm doing a voiceover it's very hard to film and try to drown out any music you know that would put a trademark infringement on my channel here vince handed me a little key we're talking about how the key looks like it was modified and i was telling vince i didn't think it was a key to a front door i thought maybe to a chest or something like that and i asked him if he was taking it and he said no he was going to throw it back but he was telling me this story of how he found many old keys and he did very well selling them i think he said he got 200 for a ring of skeleton keys those are called so he does wind up offering me the key and i do take it not quite sure why i took it but i thought i'd throw it in my cart we trade items back and forth all the time it's nothing like hanging out with other resellers can learn so much from what they're selling and what their knowledge is i always appreciate it it's a big wooden lamp so here's a little shot of the clothing the clothing in this location is just astounding sometimes it's just overwhelming most times i don't dig piece by piece through the clothing it would take days to go through these bins but i do look through these shoes and hard good bins you know the mixed bins i call it here i have to laugh at myself i find a fryer basket this is a basket to a deep fryer and my mind is thinking gee this would be nice for organization it's like karen just buy a basket for organization i used to sell quite a few of these cordless phones but after i realized it's so hard to test them and i really didn't want to deal with you know a buyer receiving it and it not working properly almost always i throw phones back now [Music] here to be truthful i don't think i had any idea of what i was looking at but it was just the paperwork to whatever it originally was but i love to learn i'd love to see every product and just get a better education these shoes caught my attention right away i checked the soles had quite a bit of wear but this wedge slide with the elastic cuff they were very popular there for a while and they were bringing good money i think that trend has calmed down i should check on that again here i'm finding the linda ronstadt cd i know the linda ronstadt cds that are her much younger days the ones where she was in japan the gold cds can bring hundreds of dollars that was just her greatest hits i imagine that would bring probably under five dollars yep i'm just throwing chairs around i know quite a few sellers that come here every day and they do quite well they do find gold jewelry really valuable items but i'm sure they have plenty of days where they don't find anything and you know they'll spend i'm gonna say six to eight hours here so it could be a real grind to thrift this way so hats off to you guys that you know only shop from the bins for me i'd rather pay a couple more dollars an item and really be selective and have everything more organized although i have to say this is fun to go through these bins here i don't know what i'm doing i'm looking at a jar of face cream maybe how gross is that i don't know why i even needed to unscrew that but i did yep and we cut it on film just know that with the gopro on i am still learning it is a challenge not to capture other people on film now while it does happen once in a while know it's my intent not to film anybody else as best i can here i thought this was wonderful brand new insoles yes please it doesn't get any easier than that those are super lightweight and i probably am going to be able to sell those for 10 bucks a piece and right there i think i found i don't know seven of them six of them here i'm showing you what i have in my cart so far the jean jacket the bed spread the inner cells and the crazy key up another insole i think here i'm adjusting the camera again i do love the gopro it is a game changer and right now you guys probably thinking i'm missing that other insole right but something else has caught my attention so i know the install is there and i'm gonna pick it up but right now i am super focused on taste of home magazines that insult just went into my cart i have sold a ton of these in the past now i go through them quickly to see which ones are taste a home and which ones are another publication for me the older taste of homes have done well but i think the market really got saturated when people caught on to you know how well these were selling and i'm not sure if the book price in the bins i think it's 50 cents don't quote me on that i'll have to look at that next time i go so i do put these in my cart and consider them i didn't want to waste a lot of time on them i wanted to think about it anytime you see my hands near the camera it's me adjusting the angle and at this point i realize there are a few hardcover recipe books and now i'm gonna struggle to get this string off i should carry like a little scissor with me or something that's how we get it off just give it a good toss okay so i realized two of the books are the hardcover taste of home and i quickly put those in my cart now i did not check amazon for these but again this was a very prolifically published periodical and hardcover book so i imagine there are a ton of these out there but i'm going to say about five years ago i used to pick up the taste of her magazines every time if i remember right i was getting i'm going to say two to three dollars an issue so if you picked up 10 you could easily flip for probably 30 dollars something like that so look at my card how empty it is for the amount of time that i have spent here if i was at the regular goodwill attached to this store i probably would have had at least a cart full if not more here i'm looking at a brush i love a good brush that one was well worn i don't know that we use a lot of brushes for dry cleaning nowadays i love a good brush for like upholstery cleaning you know just to dust it off there if you caught that i zipped up my jacket a little bit because one of the managers was walking by and he says hello and i like zip my jacket a little bit i know a lot of people film in these stores and i don't think it's any surprise he knows i have a youtube channel but i always want to be able to film and bring this footage to you guys for you know those of you who are interested in what is in the lancaster goodwill bins or or people who have never been to the bins i remember the first time i came i was horrified yep truly horrified i came with my daughter melissa fresh blooming clothing and she was looking for a gown for my niece my grandniece and we walked in and she prepared me melissa prepared me she said mom don't worry if you don't want to dig and i'm thinking digging what are we digging i didn't even understand the concept and i walked in and i was horrified and here i am five years later digging away more than five years probably eight years okay so that last shot was me showing you i used the gopro app on my phone to control the camera that is mounted on the chest mount so before heading up to the register i always make sure to check what i have in the cart as far as stains or dirt or rips or whatever with blankets and things like that big pieces sometimes it can be a little bit hard to spread it out so what i do is i take the item off the hanger if it's on one and i spread it over the cart i'm sure you guys are doing this too but i figured i would mention it because it has been a game changer to be able to stand back and really look at an item to make sure that the condition i think it's in you know is true so i pull over to the side usually pick a corner where there aren't too many people i fold the item in half and put it over the cart and then stand back and take a look at it and then i flip it and do the same thing that gives me a really good shot or view if an item is in good shape and sure enough this one is gorgeous so beautiful i think this might be 1950s i'm not quite sure about that maybe 60s but back in the cart it went i was really thrilled with this find so that is a little sneak peek inside my outlet shopping trip at goodwill route 30 which is lincoln highway in lancaster thanks so much for watching go out and get what's yours so here's a screenshot of my receipt they charged me 3.99 for the hitch and i paid 11.48 for the bed spread and the jean jacket they weighed in around seven pounds and i was charged a dollar sixty four so in the end the bed spread and the jean jacket sold within a few days and brought 109.70 and like i said i paid 11.48 so really good profit for these two pieces [Music] all right so this morning i am down in the basement this is my warehouse as i have mentioned many times before and i am just getting ready to pull shipping figured i'd jump on and film a little bit for you guys so this morning i have about 10 items going out it is a thursday morning and the first things that i've pulled are this alpaca sweater poncho really beautiful in like a multi-striped pattern with a fringe hem and also this piece of pottery just beautiful and i was just admiring how pretty those go together they are not going to the same buyer but figured i would just show how pretty that is together all right so i am just going to pull some shipping this is just going to be a little bit of random footage i have not prepped anything or staged anything you're going to see all of the craziness and i am filming on my phone it is about 5 a.m yep i get up super early this morning i was up at 3 30 watched some youtube videos watching josh of harry tornado and drinking coffee so great way to start the morning let's get started i do have a box here in case i need to bring upstairs any of the breakables so usually i put stuff in a box and carry it that way so i am not you know taking a chance of breaking anything so this is hard goods at the present moment but i am going to actually go to the next item which is an amish mennonite dress now you guys have corrected me that the amish do not wear zippers or buttons and you're absolutely correct that is my knowledge of it also so i do put amish and mennonite in the title of these homemade dresses but generally the dresses that i sell probably go to either people that dress plain or that are of the mennonite faith so let's get started and pull that so the dress is inventory b and as you can see i have a tote down here for handmade dresses and i think i'm almost out of them so let's take a look and see if it's in here [Music] right now i only have a gray one left in here and the dress we are looking for inventory b is a red one so that would mean that it is um recently listed and not yet packed down so we're going to come back over this way i do keep inventory on these racks i'm gonna pull up this this plastic so you can see under here everything is protected and dresses that aren't folded down are actually on this rack over here so i'm gonna shut off the camera for a second and pull that plastic back so you can see what that looks like and we will look for inventory be a red mennonite dress okay so here is a shot of the items on these two straight racks and this is all recently listed inventory and i am looking for a red dress to see it right away so this is what this looks like sorry the lighting is kind of kind of dull down here like i said this is my basement and um and so the lighting is not you know professional lighting but we're going to carry this over here and put this on the table see if i can do this with one hand so next we have a men's genuine navy peacoat that i listed one of my viewers was so kind to send me some extra buttons to add to the coat because the coat was missing a few buttons this is a circular rack of men's jackets and coats so i have one circular rack of men's coats i'm going to actually walk around it most of this is very heavy winter type coats i'm gonna call it anything that's a lightweight jacket goes into a bin but these coats would take up too much room in a bin so i hang them and keep them under plastic now i have mentioned before that um so this is the code here have mentioned that in my basement i do very much keep quality control going on i run a dehumidifier i run fans everything to keep the items really nice condition very clean so there is the men's pea coat this is gorgeous quality i'll show you what this looks like inside you know what i'm gonna move that piece of pottery so i don't break it and there is the inner label of what that looks like so like i said heavy wool coat beautiful quality okay let's go look for the next item which is darth vader's socks so i'll sell anything guys you know me so socks are kept in these upper bins here right now i have pulled the jewelry one because i am quite inundated with jewelry i have not listed the thread up jewelry yet i've decided to hold that back for um in case we go into shutdown i want to have backup inventory but i do have a lot of jewelry listed and that is now in a different bin so i'm going to fill that space with something new but here is the socks bin and the darth vader sock should either be in this or in the men's odd items but let's take a look at this bin let's see if i can get that open with one hand filming and pulling things with one hand is always a challenge but i'm getting there all right so as you can see i have star wars socks in this bear and i see them right away the ones that sold are the black darth vader socks i believe two pairs sold and i think i got eleven dollars for the two pairs i don't remember where i picked these up i'm gonna say it might have been a big lot of socks either at goodwill and they got donated or where else would i have gotten these you know what i don't even know this might have come from ollie's maybe i don't think ollie's had star wars socks so i'm going to say i bought a very large lot of those but that is the next item that's sold and i will shut off the phone to see what is next on the list and we will keep going and here i will just take a moment again to show these boxes up here this is where i keep all of my receipts for the year of all of the expenditure all of the items that i've purchased that way if i'm ever audited it is all very neat in one box every single thing that is a tax write-off so anything i buy whether it's supplies office equipment youtube equipment whatever the receipts i keep the receipts very organized and that way i don't have to scramble because paying taxes is a real thing when you work on ebay or um or make youtube videos so here i'm just showing another shot from this end of what this looks like on this side this side generally is clothing and yeah pretty much clothing on this side and then these little bins of odd items but the next item that's sold is a longaberger basket and i believe it is the tour basket so we come over to hard goods which is over here and all of my longer burger baskets are on this top shelf so all i have to do is because the shelf is a little bit tall is pull my little wooden bench which wound up where there it is so i just grab that and look for the longer burger basket on the top shelf all right so i have pulled this stool over and am zooming in on this top shelf now these baskets are quite profitable for me i only buy in when i can get the baskets here's the one we're looking for this is the tour basket i believe so some of them are marked there is the mark there makes it very easy to sell and there is my inventory number which i put into the listing so i only buy in when i can get the items for probably i'm going to say a couple of dollars recently my goodwills and other thrift stores have really caught on to the longer burger game i think they've always known it but they realized that these are still highly collectible for the most part maybe not as much as they used to be but still highly collectible and they have raised the prices so when they want ridiculous prices i do not buy in but when i can get them at yard sales or other places that are selling them i go ahead and pick them up and like i said i probably paid i'm gonna say two dollars for this one and i will let you know what it sold for so i just stopped the camera to take a look at what the price is on this 12.34 cents so not a real high rate of return but the bigger baskets and the more specific baskets the more specialty baskets do bring a much higher price i've sold longer burger baskets for over a hundred dollars but this one today is going out for 12 dollars and 34 cents still a good profit but not as high as it used to be all right next item up is a piece of jewelry and this is my new jewelry situation so you can see that i've pulled this empty bin i've taken the jewelry out of this one we will pop this back on the shelf and i turn it around and it has the walmart label i think that's walmart so that i know this is waiting for a new category these are the categories over here belts is also emptied so i need to turn this around because i have grown my belt inventory and put belts into one of the bigger regular size totes so this tells me that i have two empty spots for a new category so i will keep my eyes open for that but you can see the rest of what littles or smalls i'm selling and i store them in these little bins but right now jewelry is moving to a bigger bin and what was the other one i said i forgot already um jewelry and belts yes all right you could tell it's early i need a second cup of coffee okay so the new bin is a medium-sized bin jewelry is not big enough to go into the huge bin i don't want to be digging that much but i have moved it to this i'm gonna call it an intermediate size bin and i will get the next item that's sold so here's what this looks like just this medium size bin with items in plastic bags i just keep them inventoried with a letter simple letter just so i can make sure that i am pulling the right item and that's what that looks like i probably have i'm going to say about 30 or 40 pieces in this bin plenty more room and this is the item that has sold it is an audrey simulated sapphire and crystal necklace i don't even remember where i got this to tell you the truth sometimes it all becomes a blur but that is the next item that has sold so we will bring that over to the table over there waiting for the trip upstairs to pack and get shipped out this morning so i'm going to bring the star wars socks and the nadri necklace over and we will move on to the next item so down here in the basement i keep two folding tables always lots of prep room here's my shipping corner again my lights are not on i do have an overhead light that right now is off this light here and i keep all of my usps packing supplies extra bubble wrap tons of tissue paper at any given time i probably have over 10 000 sheets of packing paper or tissue paper because i use tissue paper in almost every item i send out you can see ebay tape is always in great supply that's just like a fifth of what i have in inventory a little tv for when i'm working down here and this is a little um hopeling chest i think this is hope lane i put this on offer up and painted it white and put wheels on it i keep all of the tote bags that are for sale any kind of bag like shoppers bags and things like that in there because that is cedar lined and i'm always very conscious of keeping things like i said in really nice shape so over here are the two items that oh it's these items here that are going to go over to that table over there here i just wanted to show is a set of mcdonald's glasses that i recently picked up and listed and ebay flagged them because these glasses are on the recall list which there's no way to tell that when you're shopping in you know a thrift store these are recalled because i think the paint on the outside of the glass is found to have palladium and caladium must be a hazardous material so these got flagged and ebay took the listing down i'm not quite sure what to do with these glasses i would never want to harm somebody you know that's using them the liquid does not touch the glass but naturally you're holding the glass with your hand so i imagine i'm just going to wind up throwing these glasses out i will take the loss on my text statement yep i keep track of everything that needs to be damaged out which is not a lot per year i'm gonna say it's probably under a hundred dollars that's not a lot for what i sell of items that might be damaged out now if something has damaged and is still safe and usable i go ahead and re-donate it to a thrift store if i feel it has value but something like this i would not re-donate because i wouldn't want to take the chance of you know somebody getting poisoned with caladium that sounds very very suspect okay so let's bring over the necklace and the star wars socks and we will move on to the next item the last item that i'm going to pull on film this morning is the saint michael velvet blazer now we might say who is st michael what brand is that i go by quality a lot of times for blazers around the holiday season you know i pick up all year long for velvet blazers i do very well with velvet blazers so this one is a st michael which i don't know that i've ever heard the name i have pulled the bin down it is a size large so i i um inventory my items according to size and type so this is the blazer bin in a size large and here is the saint michael blazer right on top and i just write a little hand tag and put the tag in the bag so i can identify and pull quickly all right top goes back on the bin doing all of this with one hand is always a challenge no i couldn't set up a tripod but that is way too much work at five o'clock in the morning so that's the last item i'm gonna pull thanks so much for watching go out and get what's yours in this part of the video i am going to share a few of the tricks or tips that i use when i go thrifting to be able to find really good inventory so as many of you know i have been thrifting for about eight years now probably several times a week and that is a lot of thrifting that is a lot of time spent in the thrift stores and over the course of that time i think i've gathered a few tips or tricks that have helped me secure good inventory so today i'm going to share a few of my secrets with you okay so tip number one is almost always i thrift in the morning i feel like getting there first thing in the morning when the doors open is probably the best for me that way it gives me time to grab a cart and make a complete tour or circle of the store to see how the store is whether it is the same inventory that i've been seeing or if there are a lot of items out on the shelves and on the racks that i haven't seen this kind of sets the pace for me and tells me if that store is turning over a lot of inventory so that is tip number one get there early if you can tip number two is a tip that i've learned probably just in the last year or two i will ask the different employees if there is a lot of inventory new inventory coming out on the floor so if i see an employee putting out a new rack of clothing i will ask them hey are there a lot of racks of clothing coming out on the floor today most always the employees are happy to share that information and it tells you again how much new inventory is going to be processed that day and put out for sale so if they say to me oh we have two or three racks i know most likely if i'm there for clothing i'm not going to stay too long if i don't see you know a lot of fresh inventory coming out but often the employees are glad to share especially in the big stores oh we have 25 racks coming out today or 30 racks i've been told that quite often and you can be sure i'm staying for a lot of those racks coming out if they tell me it's a high number most likely the new inventory is coming out faster than some of the other stores and that's what you want you want to be able to make the most money for the time that you're spending it's not only your investment of money that you're looking to triple or quadruple or more but it's your time so if you have to spend a lot of time in one store that is putting out inventory very slowly your dollar amount the amount you're making per hour is definitely going down okay tip number three ready for this this is a crazy tip and i'm going to try to explain this when i go into a thrift store and i don't have time to look through clothing one by one which truthfully i don't do too often but if i'm looking to just generally go up and down the aisles of the clothing to see if i can spot good items for resale this is one of the tips that i have learned to use i will look at a whole clothing aisle and see if my eye can spot the most wrinkled clothing here's my thinking if a clothing item is hanging on a hanger i think gravity over time pulls most of the wrinkles out so unless it's a clothing item that is made of a material that doesn't de-wrinkle itself gravity will pull the wrinkles out so the newer items if they're very wrinkled have not been hanging that long now you don't want to use this tip in reverse i hope i don't confuse you guys so here is my thinking you can't use that in reverse because say mrs jones donates clothing and it's beautiful clothing and it was in her closet she brings it to the thrift store and say the thrift store processes very quickly and puts mrs jones clothing right out that clothing never got wrinkled but the items that have been bagged and sat in somebody's trunk or somebody's house for a while and then got donated when that comes out on the floor on a hanger it's going to be quite wrinkled and over time those wrinkles will naturally get pulled out so i look for clothing that is very wrinkled to me almost always that's clothing that's newer on the sewing floor than some of the less wrinkled clothing now i also use the hand test by feel it's very rare like i said that i go item by item but let me just say the other day i did have to use that because i found a filson jacket when i see a high-end brand come out i have a feeling there's going to be more high-end clothing i don't think too often somebody makes a trip to the thrift store and just donates one piece so the household that the filson jacket came from i'm gonna look through every man's piece to see if i can get more filson or more high-end clothing and that tip always works for me so that's kind of tip number four mixed in with number three but getting back to the hand test i run my hand down clothing and over the course of time your hand will stop over better higher quality material cashmere silk 100 wool and that has served me really well so those are just a few of the tips or tricks that i use to find better items on the reselling floor leave a comment down below of what you guys do if you want to share it you might not want to share your tips or tricks you might want to keep them secret but at this point i don't know that any of us have any big secrets from one another especially if you're in the thrift stores as much as i am thanks so much for watching go out and get what's yours
