welcome back to Echo Ridge and the beginning of a new series this one is going to be my largest and most difficult series to date as we get the game set up I wanted to explain to you a couple of the objectives first we're going to be playing in Max difficulty second we're gonna be going for all of the achievements once we complete all the achievements we're gonna keep going and going and going in fact as the usual with my new series I took all of our patreon and YouTube members randomized the list and it spit out a total of 48 names so we will eventually have at least 48 duplicants scattered throughout the star map now Planet toy selection is starting to get a little difficult the reason why is because we play a lot of colonies whether it be here on YouTube or over on Twitch which by the way if you can't catch us live you can always head over to Echo Ridge on a bridge where I upload all those vods just to make sure you have an opportunity to watch them on your own time time but the point being is we've done a lot of these planetoids but because the nature of this is going to be Max difficulty and all the achievements I figured we'd start on one of the planetoids that has a slim chance of survival and those two are a moonlit cluster flipped or the moonlit cluster radioactive ocean well we just finished up a live series using the flipped asteroid so I don't want to start here again so we're going to go to the old radioactive ocean now one thing I do like about that is I'm pretty sure this cluster normally starts with a couple of water geysers now normally in these playthroughs I smash this re-roll world seed button a bunch of times and just take it and run with it in this case I'm gonna go ahead and give myself a small Advantage after all we're already going to be playing on maximum difficulty which includes ravenous hunger threadbare durability frankly depressing stress outbreak prone disease Draconian morale in critical mass radiation additionally we're also going to remove the ability to have care packages that one stings so yeah that's how I Justified not randomly starting with a planetoid that could have just been full of giant Boulders or a frozen core or something on another note we are also playing with all three storage rates which is another reason why I didn't want to take the chance of starting with medium Boulders for instance because we are already having a lot of the space on this very tiny planetoid taken up by the story traits I was getting ready to hit the start game button and I realized oh I feel nervous for those of you don't know achievement runs are already difficult enough but the fact that we're doing it on Max difficulty without care packages let's just go ahead and put it out there there's a very likely chance that we're just gonna outright fail on this achievement run but we're going to give it our best shot huh our starting dupe selection is a little bit different than it normally would be we're going with the Digger a researcher and a Rancher the reason why we're going with the Rancher is because of the carnivore achievement that's one of the more difficult ones to get and it's on a timeline so it was to our advantage to make sure a that we started off with a Rancher but also we found one with quick learning so hopefully they're able to skill up a little bit faster and get us into ranching Critters sooner our researchers a pretty good one at that they start with early bird and just have decreased excavation our Digger is also going to be our primary Builder so having one with digging supplying and handy is pretty convenient especially considering their only disadvantage is they take a little bit longer in the potty and the first three names on our list was Mr dkos ilart and Patrick Gordon without further Ado let's get this party started now before I do anything I'm going to make sure that I save and upload this save file to our Discord so if you want to play along with this exact seed you'll find the save file over there and now for our local around to see what Randy has dealt us oh my goodness that's already space I mean that's just a stone's throw it also looks like we found the source of our saltwater geyser which you may be thinking oh well that's good except for the fact that if it is right around here and it is spewing out hot salt water we're in a little bit of trouble I do like the fact that we're seeing all this excellent fruit especially because we have Hungry Boys and I don't know how quickly we're going to be able to get food going speaking of which this is a list of every last achievement that you can earn it knocks you not included I have done a previous achievement run but it was before they added additional spaced out achievements so some of these I still don't have under my steam profile we're going to change that but the reason why I'm showing you this now is because of the carnivore achievement we have to eat 400 000 calories worth of Critter meat before the 100th cycle now the fact that we're on Max difficulty in all of our duplicants have the ravenous appetite it actually makes carnivore a little bit easier because your duplicates eat 2 000 calories per cycle instead of the standard one I say a little less difficult but just getting to the point where we can start working on Carnivore is a lot more difficult in Max difficulty another couple that we pay attention to before we really unlock the rest of the game is locavore and super sustainable now locavore because you can't plant anything until you consume 400 000 calories but once you eat the 400 000 calories worth of food and earn the achievement well then we can go ahead and plant things and then finally we are also hamstrung on power because we will not be able to create a natural gas generator a petroleum generator a wood burner or a coal generator until we generate 240 000 kilojoules worth of energy but once you earn these three achievements you're not really limited by anything else you can take your time and you can get there whenever you want to and you also don't have to worry about ruining your chances of earning any achievements after you've completed those three and truth be told the only one that really has a time limit is carnivore you can take all the time you want to get locavore and super sustainable but you're really handcuffing your playthrough until you get them hence the reason we like to knock those out first as well also looking around it looks like there's a lot of oxalite sitting around the colony which is really good considering this starting biome doesn't have any algae I also don't see any rust but I have found a little bit of Cobalt Ore I'm thinking it's because either the geodes or the metallic caves temperature wise we look mostly okay although down here at the bottom there seems to be zero abyssalite so all this chill is probably going to start working its way towards the center of the colony without further Ado let's start digging up unfortunately the only water we have is way up here so it's going to be a rather long ladder run before we have access to water which means bathrooms are going to be delayed now for our pincher pump I think we're going to have to put it around here because there's Granite above that we can't dig into if we were to put it down a tile every time the duplicants would go get water they would get their little footsies wet and playing on Max difficulty with the amount of stress that they're already going to have we definitely don't want to make their footsies wet zutilo what is this there's not supposed to be hatches here it looks like the game has given us a Pity hatch just to make sure I went to the star map to confirm that we're on the right planetoid and yes we are but as you can see it's only a forest biome and if you go to your database and type in biomes you can actually get a description of every biome in the game taking a quick look at the forest it shows you all the elements that appear in it but more importantly it'll show you the plants and the critters that it's willing to spawn notice there's no hatch only shine bud and Pips speaking of food we're going to be very careful about not digging out any of this wild planted meal wood we're also going to be enabling Harvest on all of it because every little bit of food will help our dupes have finally made it up at the top so we're going to be able to put in that pitcher pump which is good because we're almost at the end of the cycle and we don't have any bathrooms yet so just as a quick stop Gap we're gonna put down one Outhouse and one wash basin just to make sure the dupes don't soil themselves trying to figure out where to put the cots I think they're going to end up going here but once again we're going to be very careful not to dig out anything we're not supposed to but this little Cavern here looks real nice dinner time at the end of cycle one we haven't done much we do have our one out house and one sink but it looks like the dupes are going to end up sleeping on the floor that's going to cause them to get a little bit of a sore back but hey there wasn't much that we could have done hopefully by next cycle we'll be able to resolve that issue because sleep being on the floor is not exactly what the dupes want to do now as a reminder these first few Cycles they have the New Hope buff which gives them minus 20 percent stress per cycle and plus one to morale that'll help we're also going to be digging down here eventually I'm hoping to make this our giant carbon sink thanks to these wonderful Wild Planet Oxford ferns now Oxford ferns aren't exactly Brute Force but every little bit goes a long way we're also going to be making sure we gobble up all this excellent fruit and enable auto Harvest on the Millwoods now trying to design this bathroom here I've realized that we're going to need to move the ladder well over I know it's a silly thing but by moving the ladder over we're also going to be able to avoid the oxoform seed and that way we don't have to play around with the Pips and the Oxford and can stay right there all of our digging has revealed that yes this is the salt water geyser that it's spewing out at 95c luckily there's a large enough barrier between it and our Colony looking over the the star map we do discover that we also have a cool salts less geyser and wonderful news a carbon dioxide geyser and a carbon dioxide vent yeah with our ladder moved we now actually have room to put in a proper bathroom we're rolling around to cycle three and I really want to get research going this must be the latest I've ever started research for our beginning power needs we're going to put the manual generator right here by the ladder well and that way all that carbon dioxide sinks down and then the oxfords can take care of it it's our very first printing pod and we're actually sitting at around 50 000 calories so I'm hoping for a good dupe here wow doesn't this look different without the care package is enabled you know what we might be eyeballing this Meep here because they start with a skill point and they have an interest in ranching not to mention they have quick learning they may actually be able to beat Patrick Gordon to Critter engine one because remember those new dupes start with a skill point whereas Patrick is still about 1500 experience away welcome to the Colony duplicate number four sulfur star now I tried to use the alt command to press properly spell sulfastar's name but the formatting really looks wonky so SilverStar I hope you'll forgive me we're gonna use the normal letters we're about to round the corner on cycle four and we've got a few updates research is in but even that came with a cost because we don't have a lot of aluminum right now we're sitting at five tons it's there it's just a little scattered so we ended up digging up here where there was a fairly large vein unfortunately that removed a little bit of the buffer from this wonderfully hot salt water geyser but I'm hoping that it will go off enough to where this water level will film and then the saltwater geyser will stifle itself we'll see it's not going to be that big of a deal because again we're not growing plants well other than naturally growing plants on the research front we're going to go directly towards mess tables because the morale is going to be an issue very shortly and starting off with a mess hall will help mitigate those issues then we're gonna go grab jumbo battery then into advanced research because after Advanced research we need to hightail it to electrolyzers because this planetoid doesn't have algae and I also don't see any rust that means the only source of oxygen is going to be the electrolyzer we're also throwing in a couple of ration boxes down here this is going to be a nice carbon dioxide sink which is going to be helpful because we're going to be getting rid of this ration box and putting our supercomputer here while the duplicates have been doing their responsibilities I've been doing mine we've got all the priorities set with ilart prioritizing doing research Mr dkos doing all the building and digging and then Patrick and sulfur doing all the ranching well eventually they'll do the wrenching not right now look at all that beautiful oxalate and we're also adding three more Mill Woods meanwhile The Helpful little Pips are also planting some meal wood whenever they find some seeds and now I'm going to try to get a little tricky we're going to put a Pneumatic door here I'm gonna wait for a couple of the Pips to come down here and then throw some Oxford seeds in this storage bin hopefully there'll still be enough room for the Pips to plant just a few more Oxford seeds because with our new dig shaft these two are not going to be very helpful there same with this one and this one here lots of oxfords they're just not planted where we want we'll also dig up this mirth Leaf seed and grab all the other ones that we find that way this pip isn't interfered with appropriate oxymoron planting I mean a bathroom seems like a perfect place to hide the seeds what the bathroom's not a great seed Vault we have finished up research on the jumbo battery but unfortunately one of the Pips planted an arbitrary right in the spot so we'll dig that one up and then we'll put the jumbo battery right here actually it might be better to put the jumbo battery down here to help ward off some of this chill while I found some of the abyssalite and I can see why it got broken there's a wonderful point of Interest building here I don't know what it was supposed to be but now I'm a little worried that it may have messed up some of our story trades oh yeah and by the way just as another arbitrary way to make this more difficult on me we're gonna try to keep all the Abyssal light we can alright we have two idle dupes in idle dupes in a Max difficulty achievement run means certain death apparently I'm also slipping on the research as well so let's start off by getting the electrolyzer and then we'll follow it up by getting the rock Crosser because we know we're going to need some refined Metals I can't believe I have to get into electrolyzers this early maybe even smart batteries something to note about shine bugs remember shine bugs give off a little bit of radiation and while this is normally okay on Max difficulty not only do the duplicants get sicker faster from radiation but they also get rid of less when they're going to the bathroom there's a wonderful water cooler and now we'll need a little bit of Decor so instead of going for Something Like Oxygen we're going to switch it up and go right into wonderful flower pots the flower pot does not interact with locavore because it it's not a planter box a Farm tile or a hydroponic Farm also I needed to update you on our very first achievement bed and bath just because we had at least one toilet and a bed for every duplicate in the colony I'm going around and digging up all the mirth leaf that way the Pips have more places they can Plant meal wood we have our first few skill points coming in ilart is going right into supercomputer usage Mr DK Oz is finally going to be able to dig up some Granite our super computer is going in and as the usual we're making sure it's going to be lit by the printing pod so we get the lit workspace buff that gives us plus 15 speed to the research now I need to start turning my attention to the Staples the only problem is we actually don't have a lot of space I suppose we could put a few into here but we're gonna have to dig up some of these precious pip planted items now at a minimum we're going to do one stable worth of Pips because Pips eating some free Arbor trees will just give us a bunch more dirt even though this planet so it sort of starts with a lot already but where am I gonna put those hatch ranches this would be a bad idea because it's too cold and the dupes would definitely get hypothermia which would raise their stress and we'd pretty much kill this entire Colony I think this location right here is about the best we're gonna get followed up by this area here might be able to give us four or five ranches remember we're gonna need twice as many ranches as normal because we have the Hungry Boys but also because we need to eat a lot of meat very quickly due to the carnivore achievement we are going to get this one meal wood replanted somewhere else and that way I can go in here and start making some wonderful Stables now right now we're at 48 000 calories which might seem like a lot but with four dupes we're consuming 8 000 calories per cycle so we actually only have six Cycles worth of food but lucky for us we don't need to make a difficult decision because all these dupes are meh now this is probably going to be the start of her first hatch Ranch but we need natural tiles for the arbitraries so I think our pip Ranch will go right beneath it we also have the issue of this wonderful water here we need to either move it or use it so I think we're actually going to risk hypothermia and digging out a bunch more of this area here and this should be enough to hold that excess water should oh I just noticed this was dirt that's going to end up cracking on us let's go ahead and prevent that and as expected we now have two cases of hypothermia with this difficulty if there's a chance of them getting sick they're gonna get sick and hypothermia is no joke at -5 the science Machinery construction and Cuisine because of that and the sopping wet debuff were up to 13 stress already now hopefully some of our morale additions are going to help out for instance we have the Great Hall we have the latrine and we have a Barracks our carbon dioxide sink that we built when there was still a bunch of carbon dioxide here is working like a charm look at all all this beautiful carbon dioxide keeping these ration boxes in a sterile atmosphere means what little meal lice we do have is going to stay fresher for longer all right we've started the process of moving all this water here there's actually not that much there over to this new tank here we've just enabled Auto bottle on what's going to be two bottle emptiers and made sure to have them facing in the right direction so the dupes don't get their precious little feetsies wet and stress out but our impromptu pip planting is going well we have five oxoferns down here well four because this one's a little too chilly but hopefully the batteries that I keep adding will help out that should take care of some of our early carbon dioxide problems and providing us just a smidge of oxygen in return now I need to start planting where we're going to put this electrolyzer we don't have too much water and it's going to be a little while before we contain this one so I need to be extremely careful with the water itself like for instance not having it sit on a tile of dirt that is bad bad but I'm thinking up here is going to be a good spot for the electrolyzer for one good reason it's actually chilly I don't know where this chill came from but we might be able to use that for a little while to keep that oxygen from getting too too hot well the oxygen and the equipment because remember we only have access to Cobalt and aluminum ore so far so the electrolyzer and all of its components would very quickly overheat I also think it's high in time that we find out what this geyser is right here well when we get some better digging apparently because it's protected by obsidian one thing I do love about this planetoid is we are not going to be hurting on salt first most of the biomes have it built in but second when we desalinate all this salt water we're going to be giving salt and return we can then put that salt through a rock Crusher and we get sand not to mention adorable little salt shakers for the mess tables but speaking of sand and water conservation it would probably do us a lot better if we put some real bathrooms in because right now now we're using up some water using the wash basin we could also use a water sieve clean all this polluted water and it would go a long way towards reinforcing our water supplies speaking of which we also have a little bit of water here we're going to be fine until we can start tapping into this guy at 95c which means we either need to wait for it to go dormant or stifle itself so all the water cools down so we don't scald our dupes trying to work around it all right one minor catastrophe that I should have saw coming there was a little bit of salt water in here and once we dug it out it all came crashing down which of course is going to stress the dupes out they're already at 17 percent their feet are going to get wet and you know how bad that is we need to hurry up and mop all of this up okay I think we have found our cook pay here has researching and cooking we don't really care about the researching but the plus seven to science means that they're going to be able to level up quicker they also are quick learning and their only bad thing is they have decreased medicine and decreased construction not a huge deal breaker welcome to dupe number five Eric W with the addition of Eric W that gets us to five duplicans and we only have 22 000 calories we also need to start rushing towards that electrolyzer because all this oxalite isn't going to last much longer but that's gonna have to wait for the next episode let
