Cod Fishing - Perseverance Pays Off

all right guys here we go on another adventure uh we're just off cape jiniak right now we're headed down the east side some cod fish a little bit rolly out here nice day but it's always rolling on this corner a lot of tight action swell comes in here so yeah i guess we can start getting tossed around too much you might have to put a pole out but right now it's just borderline we'll see if stuff starts crashing around down below then we will yeah it's not too bad there's probably uh i don't know five foot swell yeah it just gets kind of stacked up yep just the big ones are five footers it's fine and then there's like one that you're getting a big set come through roll you around a bit but here in a few minutes we'll be shooting that way and uh we'll pretty much get it all in our stern then so just like 15 minutes of discomfort here and then we'll get turned and it won't be too noticeable both always ride good with the weather on their sterns as long as you're not broaching around too much that is but for now we roll around because we're good because we're too lazy to tip our stabilizer poles out that requires effort i know if mom was with us she'd be scowling at us right now very true aren't you gonna put the poles out yeah beautiful day anyways kind of weird this morning we had a little sunshine some rain a little shot of pale slash snow yeah it was kind of all over the place this morning big drops and this afternoon is just beautiful weather's laying down should get a couple of a couple of decent days um it's not too windy it's gonna come up it's gonna come up in a couple of days hopefully downgraded a little bit kind of in your typical spring here yeah seems like our weather windows have been short all right well we'll point her down the hill and head for the narrows a couple hour run down that way yeah start looking for some fish yeah i don't know if we'll get much fishing in this evening it's already 8 o'clock [Music] sunset here is at 10.09 now our days are getting longer all of a sudden and sunrise is 606 so everyone is wondering uh what our daylight hours are like this time of year there it is so it'll actually be like by 5 30 and get dark probably about a quarter to 11 at night now so our days are getting longer that means our work hours get longer yeah i was gonna say it makes for a pretty long day yeah lots of production and no more bankers hours for us so yeah it looks like good traveling though here anyways so that's nice get my hat on because i'm going to get blasted by the sun in a minute so yeah we'll bring you guys back when we find something to share with you yep hopefully we find some nice codfish on this trip yeah for sure we'll see it's been a few it's been a few days since we've been out so blocking change in that time good morning guys well we got down here seg shack bay about midnight last night uh we're gonna head further south but uh kind of a little oopsy on the weather we uh we're looking at the wrong days so ended up deviating from our original plan yeah we thought we'd have a couple of days down here but it really looks like only today so yeah there's no sense running further south another four and a half hours five hours just yeah fish for one day and probably get pushed home right or into the bays for a couple of days where it's hard to say if there's much fish and more importantly i think is getting back home yeah if you only get a day you kind of feel pressured to look around more and kind of kind of don't do the best searching up here if you're uh yeah feeling the pressure of one day of fishing so yep a lot of running around and usually not very productive so we'll just see what happens here um there should be a few fish around the island at any rate yeah we're not too far from home so uh we fished for the day and might be able to work here tomorrow maybe not yeah just see what happens hopefully not we'll just run back up north tonight and we can fish inside chiniak tomorrow morning and now it's just an hour or so away it starts blowing yeah fish until it gets windy and run in yeah anyways it's a beautiful morning anyway yeah v10 today is a nice day to look around here ties are light too so it's a good good time to fish around the island yeah if there's any good time see what happens yep as uh really nice anchor up last night just had a very light breeze coming out of the bay here but laid down like an hour after we got here right up here electric ptl which is very nice you don't have to go down there and manually engage it yeah beautiful morning hopefully there's nice fish around here it's kind of tough because we haven't been out for a little while now like over a week so you always feel like you're starting over all righty off we go yeah it's just beautiful out here though all right guys just getting out of here yeah just uh you're ready here getting them baited up looks like a beautiful morning out here [Music] sun's just about to peek over the horizon kind of slippery got frosty last night should be a beautiful sunrise so we're gonna cruise around here a little bit see if we can find anything do a few drifts hopefully there's some fish around here for us yeah [Music] saw a little sign on bottom so now we'd stop and take a look first pull how do they look oh nothing wrong with those guys [Music] let him go yeah we got a couple hits earlier nothing real big but it's been good this evening really fishy over here heavy poles and a little breezy and rolly yeah the windows come out but fishing's good so you see the machine screen and we're just doing drifts so there's a lot of pressure on everything look at that glow though [Music] [Music] oil there's some big fish look at them struggle folks love it hey where'd my cameraman go oh there he goes look at that look at these beauties [Music] as well nice all in a tangle we'll take it we'll take the floor back then we're coming tonight nice fish though [Music] yeah so these fish are feeding really hard on these little needle fish [Music] sand lamps or candle fish so they're pretty attracted to our setups anyways but little bait helps seals the deal [Music] [Music] beautiful code hurt man that one that went in my knee was uh quite a surprise i have to say yeah like the fast hooks the barb stops the glove but these ones the poker is so long [Music] um [Music] [Music] uh [Music] 12. think how many more fish we could get in one pole you're getting 400 pounds instead of 200 pounds just kidding you think i should drop this or leave it up [Music] oh it may be hard work but it especially with this wave ejection takes a hundred pound and uh yeah and it seems like you never catch it on the right on the down stroke on the roll yeah because you're struggling trying to hold it
