good evening everybody and welcome to Facebook we're broadcasting live from a very cold and snowy London I'm sitting here with two legends of rock and roll who needs little introduction other than to say this is Charlie Watts Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones we're here today because you guys have unknownst this week that you're gonna be playing a lot of UK dates so I have a lot of questions that come in from Loyola fans and myself so I'd like to start by saying that on last week on Keith's Instagram he posted a picture of his backstage TV we just posted on Instagram somebody posted on Instagram a picture of his lovingly prepared Shepards pilot his mate for every gig pie number one stage on the 17th of May then that'll be croaked parks pie number one so he's posted one already he's posted a picture of the shape of peda house and I wondered whether you guys have any staples that you need to have backstage well I know we both watch Keith's Buster's crush don't we yeah I can't believe he posted number I mean just not okay it doesn't exist is the last thing you need to have backstage before you go and stay to the mix it gets you into Charlie and me more like tennis players between sets a banana I think something on the go all right I did you know that another great meal that that's good on the run we have a coffee usually but Keith loves seven thing but we're there for quite a while by the way mm-hmm we're in the dressing room before we go on you can get quite hungry yeah yeah we're there from soundcheck up to a Showtime yeah so a lot of hours get passed by how do you pass the time man well at one time used to turn up ten minutes before we will and yeah how'd you pass the time yeah yeah a lot of wandering daddy Charlie comes in to see me and then I get out quick and then I go into Sookie you go there you gets thrown do you want mix up two that's it and you have a particular song track that you might have backstage that gets you off yeah you'll have an atmosphere you go into it and obviously as a jazz atmosphere its ambient musical he's never been in there well I've never allowed me and can I just tell this viewers you know that you don't really allow many people into his area only nobody when did you make up a wardrobe I'm in there so you doesn't know this I'm like a mouse stealing oh yeah the Mel's he has some very good records so discreet yeah Keith always is great usually Richard know we should meet the other way he whoever's hot at the moment he'll I don't mean in starts I mean he's hot in his head there's no box sets which we admire don't we there's some old collections from reaching Little Richard bridge meeting area stuff the Keith does it the old way with CD buddy newish old waiver CD and a boom box he has one of these boom box yeah yeah yeah I've got one day little with new things Charlie nice coats buddy baby yeah and do these cam you order these raise the energy and get you ready for stage no just listen to it yeah but yeah it does get me ready he's winding you up yeah no because you hear the best and you try to emulate what we trying to do with guys we get inspired by the best and try and carry light on it because nothing changes over the year you know you just get turned on by great music and great players and you hope to try and pass that on to eat to the kids now yeah oh there's a question come in from our one one of the Facebook users I don't talk to them well they have they submit a lot of questions and there's a ban on the Van Dusen who says Ronny I realized jazz and blues are very influential with rock or pop music do you listen to at home well it's the same branch really like Chuck Berry's tip we ain't doing nothing to Mozart hasn't already done and it's true in a way because the structure of a starring melody or gripping blues or rock and roll or an aria from an opera it's all it's all from the salt and it's all from the heart and if it's any good it'll make you cry or make you happy yeah so they're stones have played to some of the largest audiences in the world Cabana Beach to the fields of Glastonbury what effect does that amount of people have on the energy when you take a stage and you see that amount of people hmm talk to the engine room here I don't know I mean really the best view no I mean really you if you look in ears like that's all I can see so what's out there is this goes on forever or no I mean koko Cabana Beach just went all along we had three sets of monitors going it was so big but it was quite special you know that one but really once you start a song which start plays Keith Rowley and Peter Pan running all around because yeah that's it that's the world you're in there so this bit you know Mickey's a while and him yeah I mean he he entertains I don't really do that I just me yeah but he provides a comfort zone that we couldn't operate with without because the Charlie ain't comfortable forget about it yeah in a way it's in a big way it's true with supply and demand obviously means that students geeks are always big and getting bigger but you guys like to occasionally throw in more intimate club shows as well way to play clubs all the time wouldn't we really yeah your preference biggest reason is that too many people come so it's a nightmare player it's always twice as many as supposed to be in it so it's not relaxed at all and the volume is unbelievable so it's just a nightmare in that regard if they can be they can be fun but usually we're still on stage with 20,000 or whatever number of people and it's not like they in the club no really because if you play in clubs isn't a way you can play it if you play the room and we don't get time to do that but we haven't said that he loves it but we do maintain on stage a an intimate feel we play off of each other as though we're in a small area I don't think that comes across in a huge Stadium we don't know that because we're not out there but I think it does certainly did with the Beast he's going out he's in there yeah that was the nearest thing as we walk out half a mile and set up out there that was good fun to do the best of both worlds almost yeah and when people are much closer to you do you do you have to focus here you're playing off your game a little bit why but I'm always shy no but that's you know pop is Charlie what about yourself I don't I don't know I mean yeah you distracted by actually closer charlie with some bands the the bigger the band gets the bigger the dramatic it becomes youth kit has always remained quite tastefully beside they they haven't got quite big enough for me yet would you like the stones yeah wouldn't it get bigger yeah bad more than they're expensive there is that we are expensive does that come from your yeah it drums the size yeah I don't need W I don't play like that anyway I'm simple her students and they're keeping us on no idea I've just been sitting there playing thank you sir that's alright then thought everything that's good he's got double bass drums as well no he hasn't both yo I have but they're two different makes and two different sizes okay well that's good talking up your your drums there's another Facebook user corporal Fitzgerald who asks is Irish maybe the your drum kit has we are open sign on it for decades now no it's the story behind that no it's a cut off with my coat hanger because I hang my coat up and he's got clothes and I turn sign now this is open when he's working on it but don't in rehearsal and sound chips right during the show we don't know that's always open right yeah but it's it's been I'm it humans here below an advert like that no not for free so Ronnie the interplay of histones guitarist is always something that's celebrated the legend did a weaving of the sound and always comes across as very natural and instinctive is it so or does it take it better be no it's natural as laying an egg to a chicken iceberg because comes out with all the rough bits on it and this is straw statuary and it's organic no I mean we try to not over examine what we're playing and the chances are we come across a lovely fantastic accident I mean on the dark day that he was employed to do this job I think that that weaving thing Keith had it's really two people playing without getting in the way of each other you have to listen to do it properly which is what he does yeah more than I usually oh yeah he said interrupting hi folks we love it out here yeah you know we're doing work me Charlie we're grafting you know I mean we want to see you at these concerts get off Facebook and go to the game yeah definitely the support acts for this to your husband announced yet but you guys are always supporting newer bands the end of last year for instance she had Leon bridges and Katie Hoffman being just two examples who liked him bridges didn't like oh yeah it was great do you mean obviously get to meet the band's did he ever ask you for advices and anything they come to you and talk to you about no we just wish him luck don't worry I say you know keep it up we try to encourage over the the new bands and the semi established ones you know because there's a lot of bands with hit records that are put a new you know we always try and encourage him we've been obviously playing to a much larger audience than they would have otherwise you know I'll be prepared when they take the stage do you watch them yeah most of them are really good hmm we do go and have a summary times sometimes it can be they can shrivel it's quite difficult sometimes you that usually happen defense if they're singing would make yeah who doesn't do it deliberately the great example was Justin Timberlake and Canada Justin was great when he went on when he came with us he sort of shrunk because Mick just didn't do anything but because he was there he seemed to shrink somehow yeah yeah it might be a bit daunting I got no idea well there is a question from a Twitter user who goes by the name and they ask supportive hadn't you who has been your favorite favorite what support do you mean Oh blimey well we were all intrigued to see this little person called Bob Dylan I thought ed when he played with us I thought is he gonna be a choke the bloody guy side him in America he was quite early in his American existence and he came on with his two amps and there were the things going and he was clammy health and everybody loved him it was incredible actually don't have you ever seen him but he's pretty pretty I saw me I would not have presented him with an award yes she was really grateful yeah it still remains but it's Pete it was amazing actually to do that you know and you know that's him who else would go another one but storm say you know I can he's a good guy who stole Z yeah you keep your eye out for him yeah rapper man you're wrapped up baby no he's got some salt he's good yeah he was like yeah I'm sure we didn't he didn't play this dude who's the last big flavor really good that's Austin that was good there was a great quote from I was going on to quote talk about from a long time ago desert there's a clip of Mecca Taylor being interviewed in 1973 he's asked what what what stopped the saloons dissolving after Brian joins died you know what what kept you going and he said that it was he'll be returned to the stage you know somebody's got a life back what is it how important to the lifeblood of stones is playing live totally we always read and Bonnie is our bread and butter that's not what we do yeah this is the life life of the band flows through live an interaction with the audience because they give we given they taken the other way around yeah on May 22nd I mean much fun Paul in studio band not was a song writing and producing record went to the band playing live is much more important yeah my dad's been but that's where we come from it's much more rewarding to see Charlie is expression when we're playing live any guys I can't believe all these people are still turning on but none of us camera it's marvelous yeah on may the 22nd you're gonna be playing London Stadium another memorable occasion when the band were all together in Stratford was on March 18th 1965 when Mick Brian and Bill relieved themselves against a service station wall and were later charged with breach at the Pierre can you assure us the local you eyeballing it yeah ample restroom facilities they structure their have plenty there what's he started he couldn't stop Charlie the last Stones album they the grammy-winning blue and lonesome it revisited the band's influences well the recent on-air collection I can't been told we've got Grammys but I've never seen one I think I've got one I'll end you you've got an actual Grammy yeah we got one per so do lounge do you know that no yeah I just did buying off the other day and I'm so underneath food you lounge I mean blimey didn't I thought it was for anyway I'm sorry what about it well blue monsoon was a collection of covers of your favorite Lewis songs and an on-ear was a collection of the the BBC and radio before my time yeah well dude does this revisit in the past to motivate you to do new things or is it just a detour from what is it you like to do well blue and lonesome came about because Keith wanted me to play on Louie lonesome a song cut out we we did a set of sessions for the new album we did another self session for the new L mean the middle of it Keith wanted this blues for meek to play harp because he plays great at heart it went infectious and yeah from that one song we did another one another one the mick chose these songs that are common and then he came out as a record we did another set of sessions for the new album another says I don't know where the new album is now you wee does so many well I know is we've got a nice shocked to find that Brenda Graeme yeah three days works hope you eventually get those once be nice for now but your question was did it what did they help you play no doesn't motivate you to revisit the past more or reenergize Mick was known a goalie influenced people never had you Connelly in the first place Mick doesn't like yesterday only tomorrow yes it's funny well now and tomorrow but luckily that valve never cut off he does love to play music from the past we didn't like talk about it yeah so it's always there as our inspiration in the back of our minds we make I think it's probably if you play certain things I will play just like I played on blue and known somebody is a new song which is not allowed to sing yeah well we have to end see you out there on the road they don't have angel now they just go we just say cut you
