hey guys your Casual Gamer here and in this video I'm going to show you how to set up the Nintendo 3DS emulator [Music] Citra okay so here we are on the homepage of Citra Citra m.org the link to this page will be in the description below once you are here go ahead and click on download here now I am on windows so I would download for Windows x64 but if you click on other platforms you'll see that this emulator is also available for mac and Linux I have the setup file downloaded here on my desktop let's go ahead and open it welcome to Citra setup next go ahead and locate wherever you would like to install Citra on your computer I'm fine with it being on my C drive so I'm going to go ahead and hit next now it's giv us the option to download Citra Canary or Citra nightly or both now Citra Canary is a in development version where they Test new features before releasing them to the nightly version which is the stable version of this emulator I'm going to go ahead and download both next go ahead and accept the license next if you would like to create any start menu shortcuts you can do that here I'm not going to next and install now to find your Citra Files come down to the search bar and type in Citra and you will see your Citra nightly and your Citra Canary and from here you can pin Citra to your start bar or your taskbar or open file location and you can just drag these two shortcut files wherever you would like I'm just going to drag them to my desktop for the purpose of this video and you can go ahead and delete that setup file and I'm going to go ahead and open Citra nightly which is the stable version of this emulator so when you first open the emulator you're going to see this big plug plus folder logo under it it says double click to add a new folder to the game list so we're going to go ahead and do this first add our games to the emulator but before we do that I want to show you guys what your 3DS ROM files will look like when you first download them they will be in this compressed file format that needs to be extracted the program I use to extract my files is 7zip if you don't already have this installed on your computer the link will be in the description below once you do have it installed all you need to do is right click on the file you need to extract so we can do Sonic Generations right click on it go to show more options seven zip and extract here and after you extract your ROM it will become a 3DS file this is the file format that's playable within Citra then go ahead and delete the zip folder back on the emulator now let's go ahead and click on that plus folder and I'm going to locate that folder that I have on my desk desktop that contains my 3DS games and then hit select folder and there we are all three of those games I had in that folder are now in the emulator now let's go up to emulation configure and let's go down to graphics for the internal resolution you can turn your graphics all the way up to 2400px but I am not using a 4k monitor so I'm not going to take advantage of that and I'm just going to do six times at 1440p under layout you'll see screen layout it's going to be on default as you know the 3DS has two screens so you can change your screen layout to a single screen large screen side by side separate Windows a hybrid screen once we get into some gam playay I'll show you guys what each one of these look like now let's go over to Advanced and for the graphics API we're going to change this from openg GL to Vulcan you will have a much much better experience with this emulator using Vulcan unless your PC has a really dated CPU and GPU then you may want to come back here and try open GL if Vulcan doesn't give you a great experience and if your computer has an actual graphics card make sure that physical device is your actual graphics card and not your cpu's graphics everything else we're going to leave at default settings now let's go down to controls now I have tested an Xbox One Xbox series and a Nintendo switch controller with this emulator and all three controllers work the controller I am using now is a Nintendo switch Pro Controller now there are two ways that you can set your controller up the easiest way is to come down to autom map after pressing okay press any button on your joystick so I'm going to push okay and now I'm just going to press any button on my Nintendo switch Pro Controller and as you see it just mapped my entire controller out for me now by using a switch controller my face buttons X Y A and B will be in the same layout as a 3DS if I was to do that Auto map with my Xbox controller my face buttons will be reversed meaning the Y button on the Xbox controller would be X the x button will be y the a button would be B and the B button would be a now if you want a custom layout then you can come down here to clear all and every button will be reset and to map these buttons out you could just click inside of the box next to the button you want to lay out so we can do a and we can press whatever button on our controller we want to be the a button and you would just repeat that for the directional pad Circle pad C stick shoulder buttons and so on and if you are unfamiliar with a 3DS button layout and you're wondering what is a c stick well that's going to be this little button over here in the right corner now it's not an analog stick but it does slightly rotate up down left and right and this over here will be your circle pad so if you are doing a custom layout by knowing these two buttons we'll help you out once you have your controller mapped out we're going to go up to new and we're going to name this controller layout I'm just going to call it P1 for player one okay this way we don't have to remap these controls and if you want to know what the hot keys are for this emulator then up here next to input you have hot Keys you can check these button commands out and take advantage of these in game once you have finished here come down to okay now now we're going to go ahead and load up a game but first I want to show you guys this cool little feature that's easy to get to if we come up here to multiplayer and say you have a friend that has Citra as well and you guys want to play online together then you can go here create a room then you can host a room they can find that room and you two can play online together I'm pretty sure any of you guys that play Pokemon games will take advantage of that and for anyone who wants to see a compatibility list I will leave a link to this page in the description as well now let's load up a game and I'll do Sonic Generations now to show you guys the different screen layouts you want to go up to view screen layout so the first one is single screen this one which is my favorite is large screen this is hybrid screen this is side by side and this is separate windows now I'm going to switch back to large screen now if you want to go full screen then all you want to do is hit the f11 key and you'll go into full [Music] screen thank you guys for watching I hope this video was helpful if it was make sure to leave a like and I will catch you guys in the next one peace [Music]
