you know guys toast 20 here and welcome to a tutorial on how to create a realistic CV now I am NOT an expert on creative release of City and I am definitely just going to present my ideas so before I get started definitely cut up the comment section and let me know what you do to create a realistic city and city skylines and whether you agree with what I'm saying or disagree I'm all ears and of course if this video is helpful in any way definitely show your appreciation by hitting that like button now first up before you do anything before you even lay down your first road figure out where your city is find a thing every city has a theme and they're always different even if you're building a city in Europe like we're in Europe and then if you choose France then we're in France because even even those cities even those towns are different like I know a lot of people build in like an American style and they just go oh I'm just building an American city yeah but you know building a city in LA and they're building a city in New York a totally different and I like made that's made like a bit of a bad decision basing Springwood off New York and then LA because I later realized that they are just so a difference that it's really hard to incorporate that and although that I feel like I might be doing a good job now it's taken ages so I think it's really important to figure out where in the world your CV is and then like really specify that because architecture Road layouts even the direction they drive like all that's really important which is why I say I am their perfectionist because I have a city based in America left-hand driving New York LA it's a mess so definitely figure that out before you start building something that's going to help you figure that out he's using Google Earth I use I don't build without using Google F now and I find it really hard to even think of anything not using Google Earth it's it's perfect for finding inspiration or figuring out how the road layups work or even if you're copying something completely don't be afraid to do that even if you copy an auditorium and you know you go I'm gonna copy this exactly it's gonna turn our difference and even if you copy the exact skyline of a city there's no way you're going to know that's you're always gonna put your own spin on it so I highly suggest just full-blow and copy exactly what you see on Google Earth I do it all the time and my stuff never turns out how I ever look at anything and it's also really good just to see the patterns of a city and to figure out where things sits in terms of where a dock might sits near a suburb or where a suburb sits in relation to the downtown like they're using Google Earth is really useful for that which leads me to my next point and that is planned before you build I when I build I like I don't just build a suburb I try to figure out what everything's going to six before and the way I do that is I used the districts to paint down where a wants particular elements of my city to look if you were to tune into any of my series you will see actual names of places like some of them might say Brooklyn or they might say docks although these are just ideas of where I wanted things to sit and the reason why planning is really good is because you don't want to decide last-minute I'm going to put I'm gonna put a school there and then not have any room for it or if you you know builds an entire area and realize you don't have a dock then you're gonna struggle to fit it in figuring out where things sits is really really important and will really help you to plan your city and make a look really natural and that'll also help out with scale which like is really really important because you know if a if the downtown is this beak and if a building looks it looks like this size then a high school has to look about this size and then a house needs a look you know like all this sort of stuff kind of works also how many times have you built a city and then realize you didn't plan your networks properly or your train line doesn't hit one suburb it's so annoying so I highly suggest figuring out where exactly where everything is and how it flows and sometimes you don't need a trade line you know like some cities don't have train lines so you don't have to plop down everything in city skylines if you want to be like realistic remember we're talking realistic we're not just going for just imaginary places my next point is all about City patterns and how cities grow naturally now it's kind of tricky to build in terms of how a city would naturally build because the cities expands from like that I just expand from the downtown outwards they usually expand from neighborhoods so neighborhoods will you know form they'll like be small towns and then as they slowly grow then they will start connecting up with the roads and suburbs and fill out that way so when I build my cities I try to imagine how my city has expanded over time you know whether people have moved closer to the industrial area for work or whether this neighborhood is expanded because of its university or whether you know this small farming town has changed over the years you know like try and think about how City your city has expanded over the years which can be really tricky and I struggle with it and I will look at a blank map for an hour because I am just trying to figure out how like the history and like I'm planning out how this city has actually evolved into what it is now so that leads me to my next point about neighborhoods when I build a new area I tried just to restrict myself to building the actual neighborhood rather than expanding purely from the downtown when I do that I try to imagine what that neighborhood is unique for you know whether there's like a cafe culture whether there's a train station there and if there is an industrial port or is there you know like what is that neighborhoods token right what is what is so special about that neighborhoods you know put a bit of character into it and then I expand from there you know connect all the roads and I you know connected to the rest of the city and I tried to create it so that it has a bit of a uniqueness and that kind of just helps to create a bit of the realism in the city and that also leads me to my next point roads when I build roads I try to use the formula I try to start with the biggest Road and then I expand by connecting all the smaller streets and then even some back alleys and I try to connect that to the rest of the town or the rest of the city like that there's something I also try to remember when I build a rose is that generally roads lead places and yeah an odor but that's so often when I you know naturally when I build a road it's really easy just to build it that goes you know for like a hundred meters whereas roads will go for kilometers and kilometers and if it's an avenue or a highway go for hundreds thousands of kilometres so it's really important to remember that that happens because I'm it is really easy just to build a tiny road and it's amazing how how much of an impact that creates on the realism it's really easy just to lose a lot of realism from creating such a small road and so yeah it's try and imagine that's your roads need to lead places they're connected for reasons and they they connected because they need to give like a an ease of getting from one place to the other also the type of layouts you use in a city really impacts the type of city it is or even whereabouts in the world your city is now I know in Europe you can find layouts that's a very classic historical city layouts in Europe and you won't find this in every European country or you won't even find this in every city it's just just one style and then the city will break up into a different style of layouts either they might go from a historical quarter to more structured suburbs that are in a grid a lot of American cities are based on a grid and then some art and then some cities in other countries said you know all over the place in terms of road layouts and then some road layouts in Sydney are all over the place so you know it's really dependent on the type of area building and which kind of leads me to my last points and that's don't make it perfect even the most perfect city even the most the perfect planned city is not perfect it has its grits has its grime has its broken-down elements so and that's generally like my favorite thing to build you know it might not be your favorite but I really like building those sides of the city so even if you have a grid it doesn't have to be totally straight if you build a highway doesn't have to be so perfect in real life these places they're not totally brilliantly even and it's like slopes aren't perfect later it's not so don't don't feel like you have to make it totally perfect and even even when you don't make it perfect it actually really helps to create that realism and it doesn't Hance it I mean although you lose a lot of like sleep over the fact that your junction doesn't look isn't sloped quite as perfect as you might like in terms of realism you've got two thumbs up from me now that's just all my opinions on how to create a realistic city they're just things that I do in my cities and if you want to check out the rest of my builds and to see my cities in action definitely go and check out my my three series kind of going at the moment and that will be really really cool but yeah thanks for tuning in and if you have any comments if you have any suggestions please let me know in the comments below because I am all ears and I would love to learn but until next time thanks for tuning in
