up good there you go in in quick attack if you can try and play two touchdown bibs good nile [Music] my name is chris hogg my current role at newcastle united football club is lead under 23 coach i first started coaching really when i was a player up in scotland i was lucky enough to have a 12-year playing career to stop at the age of 28 um but i was always interested in coaching and helping the people around me and first coaching badges when i was 22. um also still playing did some work with like youth teams and different things and then when i retired at 28 it was kind of a perfect time for me to get my teeth in their coaching and and start really progressing with that and and learning and involving my thought processes around developing people good that's it the session this morning we're basing around the loss of possession so the game is the four moments so it's in possession it's a loss of possession it's the outer possession and there's the regain of possession and added into that is restart obviously it's a core model of ours and myself so we try and strip it down some days on and focus on these specific areas on each day tied into obviously our periodisation plan but we're focusing on the loss of possession today for me it's a huge aspect of the game and and i think if you keep sessions general all the time um and like in possession outposition for me is not enough you have to break the game down in the micro detail and really try and get some specifics in your actions as a team but again for my job most importantly for the individual so i need to prepare the individuals as much as i can in each in each moment so whoever they play under in their future they've got a real good grasp of of the game in the third practice we'll have the box six if you like seven plus the goalkeeper playing out focusing on the position as we're playing out turnover quick attack towards the goal again just really trying to redefine little positioning throughout especially for all full backs on when the ball is played the opposite side just make sure we're shutting these lanes forward for the opposition to attack yeah good decision jack don't want another attack good luck jack yes will [Music] good hit well done cassie well done cassie dead well done so good it's happened once or twice just really important for the yellows okay when you do regain it from being really good buzz okay i understand you love your ten you're seven year eleven and you're nine in a game where you can play through this pressure so again just hit rummy and you get a breather all right okay but secure that first pass you ready play because that's it so that's it cassie good boy good well done jack so staying cut that's it cassie better position you cassie brilliant why players have a real difficult job as a lot of positions do um they need to have a real discipline and focus on on the out possession now naturally why players just want to attack but again the the idea behind the next part of practice was to have them in positions where generally we try and have them when we're playing out again to occupy the opposition back four so whether that's in between center half and and full back or on the outside shoulder of the fullback and again it's just that reaction to okay we're in this position if we have success we broke the lines and we're penetrating that part of the pitch great but especially this morning trying to manufacture some losses so we get that reaction to get in inside next to the central midfielders and have them two banks of four really and be real compact and difficult to play play through well done adam should that leonard good boy it's our protection of that box if you like of the two center midfield players and the two center halfs backed up by the goalkeeper i think it's really important that he has a role in that and keeps that right the center part of the pitch is it the goal is in it for a reason it's the most dangerous part of the pitch it's uh part of pitch where you want to try and deny any space so again it's just again the connections football's a game of emotions and connections and relationships so it's getting that four really to work in tandem and protect that space as best we can now again on the couple examples it was probably the space was too wide and that has to do with either the center midfielder jumping too early to go and apply pressure and leaving that lane through or it's about then just to get a good lack of communication with with the two center hearts and two center midfielders but it's kind of a principle and uh as part of our methodology where we want to try and keep that that box in contact and and deny any space in them areas as soon as you two get split as well it's really important you two stay connected and shut the gaps it's the same for the center after same principle okay i think it takes some bravery sometimes to do sessions that anna's attractive and anna's beautiful to look at i think for me is i learned that quite early in my coaching career where i thought i had to do practices that was always really nice really clean you pass there you do this you do that minimal pressure minimal faults and i thought the faults in the session the less fault it got the better the session it was very quickly obviously through education and through mentoring and through working with people and and learning it's the complete opposite you need these players to to fail and you need it to be really difficult for them and you need to do the moments of the game and expose them to that so on the loss of possession days it's quite easy for for me as of course i get carried away in possession it's a part of the game i love and i enjoy but then again it's always bringing the mindset it's all connected so no matter what theme no matter what it's on every moment is connected so you have to be right in every sequence i'm never too happy as a coach i'm real reflective as a person so every day we go back and and we have a look at it and we talk about it and tweak one or two things and speak about players and speak about what we could have done better as a staff you know for sure there's moments today where i could have done better could have been a bit clearer with certain things could have could have done other things better again i'm really comfortable with that now as a coach because i understand where i'm at and where i want to get to it's part of the process around developing my my coaching skills my people skills and everything about me to to try and help the people i work with get to their best level to see the full coaching course and for more exclusive content from top level professional and academy coaches subscribe to the
