[Music] everyone welcome back to millennial living my name is Jorge and on this episode we're gonna talk about the most expensive thing you're gonna do to prove your love for your furry little friends and what is that offense for our yard what we ended up going with is a vinyl fence two reasons number one the way it looked and number two low maintenance so on this episode what we're gonna do is tell you about all the different brands that we looked at tell you why we ended up going with Lowe's and then tell you how much it was first foot so you have an idea how much it's gonna cost you so in the world of vinyl fencing there's your big box options and then there's a little bit higher end and that would be buff tech you've probably never heard of buff tech but you've heard of their parent company certainteed who makes siding and shingles so buff tech makes two different type of vinyl fencing their chesterfield which is that our higher-end one and then new Lexington so both of them have bottom steel reinforced rails but the difference is the vinyl fencing the Lexington is not miami-dade rated and the buff tech Chesterfield is so if you live in a very windy area what you're gonna want to do is go with the Chesterfield and the reason being is that it can sustain winds of 75 miles an hour and wind gusts of 115 miles an hour so what makes the Chesterfield better than the new Lexington the Chesterfield has thicker rails and then thinner plates another difference between the Chesterfield in a new Lexington if you have a very sloped yard like ours you're gonna want to go with the Chesterfield and why is that because the bottom is going to go with a slope yard because you're not gonna want any gaps because your dog can easily get out so all the figures I'm gonna give you is for our yard which for reference is 272 linear feet with a gate so the new Lexington was gonna cost us nine thousand six hundred and thirty three dollars which for you would have been thirty five dollars and 42 cents per linear foot so now remember very important the new Lexington is not miami-dade rated now the Chesterfield that's the one that's miami-dade rated and that one was going to cost for us eleven thousand seven hundred and twenty six dollars so for you there would have been forty three dollars and eleven cents per linear foot if you're very handy another option is to go to one of these websites that sell buff tech final fences and you can go on there they'll deliver to your house and then you have to install it that is if you're very handy and you know what you're doing it's a great option because you're gonna save a lot of money so for our yard we've got a quote for that and that would have been seven thousand three hundred and sixty seven dollars which would have been the Chesterfield that is the Miami Dade rated fence so for you without installation it would cost twenty seven dollars and eight cents per linear foot so now on to the big-box stores and you have of course Home Depot and Lowe's the first thing you need to know about going this route is that both companies are supplied by the same manufacturer Barrett outdoor living both stores has a different brand of vinyl fencing from Barry that is exclusive to them the thing that we noticed when we were looking at the vinyl fences from both stores is that Lowe's had a better quality fence the prices that both stores are very similar but there's two important reasons why we ended up going with Lowe's when you go and have them install it for you they will come and put it together the panel and when they do that it's gonna fit better with the contour of your land so if you decide to install it yourself the panels are already going to be together so that means they're gonna be at the bottom straight so if you don't have a land that is straight you're gonna have some gaps now remember the lowest vinyl fence are not miami-dade rated but the bottom rail is steel reinforced for an additional cost you can purchase steel stiffeners which you can put in each post that will make it miami-dade rating for our yard putting stiffeners in each post would have been an additional eighteen hundred and sixty-five dollars so the fence that we ended up going with is the emblem six-foot privacy fence and that has the New England postmaster so our cost was seven thousand eight hundred and sixteen dollars and that was with the lowest 10% discount now your cost would be twenty eight dollars and seventy four cents per linear foot so guys very important thing here Lowe's always has promotions a lot of the time is ten percent so don't buy this until they have at least ten percent discount so what Lowe's does is they send a rough percentage of to your house they get an estimate how much it's gonna be so you what we did is we left our number with him and told him to call us when they have that promotion going now there's another brand barrett outdoor living mix it's called active yards it has great reviews online but unfortunately you can't get it through the big-box stores you have to go through a contractor and unfortunately in our area we cannot find one that we get confidence in we did look into wood fencing it was gonna cost us about ninety two hundred dollars but there was a lot of maintenance involved and in the long term it was not a good investment so the best thing about going with a vinyl fence is the amount of options you have when you go with a vinyl fence the first thing you have to decide is the level of privacy you want you can go with the traditional privacy fence like we did or a decorative picket fence so the next thing to decide is the type of color of fence you want there's various colors and on top of that if you will want to pay a little bit more money you can get some that look like wood and stone so after that the next thing you have to decide is the type of post cap you want one thing that really caught my wife and eyes I was the fact that they made solar-powered lights for these caps there was a solar panel here and then the light here first problem that we ran into with these is that they never last long the battery so we talked to a lot of people that had had this and they said that the light lasted about six months and they had to replace the battery so these solar Park post caps are $30 plus each so can you imagine how much that would be if we put that on our yard and then every six months we have to replace the battery the second problem we face is that the light that hadn't been permitted was not very bright so for the price it was a big No and now if you really want to jazz it up there's a wide variety of decorative accents you can add to your fence so now I'm gonna go over with you my experience with lows and then installation so the way it goes down is that they send their representative to your house and that person gives you an estimate of how much it's gonna cost and how much material and all that you're gonna need so after that you pay in full and then they're gonna have someone deliver it to your house and then what they do is they use an outside contractor that they've been working with for a long time to come and install it after you purchased the vinyl fence this low sales rep passes you on to a representative at their call center and then this is your point person for everything afterwards so with this representative you schedule a delivery of the material and then after that you schedule when they're gonna install a they use an outside contractor to install it takes them about a day and these people are licensed and bonded so what's great about this is that if you have any issues you can call you a representative at the call center and then have them contact the contractor and fix any issues so this is our gate and each post comes with a stiffener because of the weight of the door and as you can see it's got a handle but we also ended up putting on it is a lock so you can lock it with a key and then just press this and it opens [Music] and when you close it it automatically locks the only part of your fence that can follow the contour of your land is the gate you're gonna have a little bit of gap here you can have a gap at the bottom and here but we've never had an issue with our dogs getting out so when it comes to gates there's a lot of options if you own an RV a boat or a car and you want to park it on the side of your house there's a gate for that so we've had the fence for about six months and we love it our dogs can play in the yard we have privacy and also our neighbors have come and talked to us about it and we've noticed they're popping up everywhere now you guys got any questions about doing a vinyl fence then put them below and we'll try to
