night football [Music] the Oakland Raiders of the original counterculture sports franchises an empty mix of Emmy success and attitude this is the haven for pro football's most haunted renegades 20 underappreciated and the misunderstood no problem for Al Davis the rebel on the move Jeff George left his hometown taking with him a fiery palace in Atlanta he challenged Authority and classic renegade passion last week in his first game of the Raiders Jeff George threw three touchdown passes when it came time to find a home there was no doubt the Raiders were the team for Jeff George let's get I got my pitch and I wanted to be a part of that growing up watch teams and grow up around the team there's a great one fence the Raiders with em I always one of those now I'm the leader that team and I'm very excited about that and the Raiders are excited about having him wear silver and black one of the most fierce rivalries in the NFL the Chiefs on the Raiders on ABC's Monday Night Football [Music] [Applause] yeah [Applause] the City of Oakland in the foreground with the San Francisco Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background on a perfect night for football the oakland-alameda County Coliseum the sold-out tonight Raiders and the Chiefs are getting it on one more time hello again everyone Frank Gifford about Michaels and Dan Dierdorf happier with us good matchup for you tonight the Raiders and the chase both teams missed the playoffs a year ago both teams have made major changes the region the Raiders changed at the top they brought in Joe bugle as head coach and they brought in the controversy of the very talented quarterback Jeff George meanwhile Kansas said he was 9 and 7 that was lovely for Marty Schottenheimer he not only changed quarterbacks ow he clean house and he did all those ugly B's they didn't make the playoffs ranked something they had done every year from 1990 through 1995 they decided to play a pat hand last year and they didn't go to the playoffs for the first time in this decade so they cleaned house indeed elvis grbac the former 49ers the new quarterback Marcus Allen is now a backup Greg Hill is the featured ball carrier and they have seven starters on offense and five new starters on defense but with all of those new faces they didn't melt very well last week and they lost to Denver by a score of 19 to 3 keep in mind Marty Schottenheimer has been a coach of the national football league since 1984 he has never had one of his teams begin a season with a record of all and two and tonight Danny faces a team that tries to begin his season by not going on to as well and now the Raiders lost last week in overtime to the Tennessee Oilers they didn't play a bad football game with the exception of their inability to control the line of scrimmage their passing game was there as Frank mentioned Jeff George had three touchdown passes to the great Timmy Brown but they are the last team in the NFL and rushing the football they only ran it for 45 yards last week and they gave up an astounding 255 yards to the Oilers that has to change it can't be last in both of those departments in the NFL and expect to win football games the other thing Joe bugles team needs to learn how to do win close football games amazingly in the last 13 ballgames the Raiders have played that have been decided by seven points or less they have won only one of those 13 they need to learn to win tight ball games will be back here to open for the kickoff ought to be a fun night stay with us everybody Monday Night Football right after this coach Marty Schottenheimer who has a 14 and 5 record against the Raiders coach what's your secret give us some insight into your plan to make that 15 tonight well I'll tell you what they're always a tough physical team Lynn the thing that you have to do is compete every snap against them because they're very talented we already on a gorgeous night Lynn Coliseum is still coming up there is a rapid transit strike in the Bay Area it's a lot of people who come via the train late in the liming tonight the traffic of course is worse than it would normally be but they'll have a full house before it's over and done with this tamarick vanover drops back to receive the kickoff and call for it to say that in the air for the Oakland Raiders as you look at chef George was in the next-to-last game last season it was a Monday night game and the Raiders routed Kansas City 26 to 7 but apart from that [Applause] in this decade hordes kick is a good one [Applause] city will begin its first drive from the 20-yard last year it was Steve bono at the end of the year Rich Gannon had taken over and they went into the free agent market and pluck Elvis Grbac boom the 49ers tried very hard to keep is the backup this baby on Greg Miller's now the feature back Kendall Andrews the full-back he's been to the Pro Bowl by Andre Rison and late loss in the live acid Ted Thompson and exported I know the tight end the strength of that unit in the interior the guards and the center Christmas on run hard seals and Dwayne for about a week and a half a long time Buffalo Bill just sighed [Applause] two yardline the defensive unit for the Oakland Raiders day I'm talking about the fact they were shredded last week the guys up front enough to make the stops or Smith Maryland but locked in one of the best and Lance Johnstone in the second season Frederickson be Curt and Morton are the linebackers and the secondary McDaniel and Lewis trap and Turner some big names of prominent people some they split ready No because the pressure is on Lance Johnstone forced me if you want to stir it down and seven [Applause] Marty Schottenheimer disappointed last week against Denver when his office Billy could not get in practice whether that was a tribute to the Denver defense or the lack of the options having come together with a lot of new people we'll find out more tonight I know he's concerned he wants some cigar dates he doesn't what pieces of yardage he wants to get those big Johnson [Applause] lowering sun and a first down as Damon Hughes makes the catch and guru Bach is on the money McDaniel with the coverage first down Kansas City the pepper and cornerbacks familiar names if you follow this game Albert Lewis over in the right corner and terry mcdaniel on the left corner they've been around for a while and you see the slip that's McDaniel Frank loses his footing as Hughes makes his cut to the outside Terry tries to go with him and does two splits it's a good way to pull a groin down on the field though before the game it seemed very Drive in the night fields in good shape one back Steve is able to run him down after a minimal gain at the 36 yard line this Raider defense was embarrassed last week and touched on the fact that any George should be willing to just pour them up and wasn't that they we're not in position so much they put on an awesome though terrible display of tackling well talking to Fred Winningham their defensive coordinator he said you know from a coaching standpoint this was a very easy week you don't have to say anything to a group of guys that get beat up as badly and tayka handled in Tennessee last week watching the passes to Tony Gonzalez the rookie tight end up to the 46 their top pick and a kid who's playing down the road from where he started in college at the University of California in Berkeley not only in football but in basketball as well and there is Whittingham these defensive coordinator and they love this young rookie out of California Tony Gonzalez he played in the similar options at the University of California Steve Mariucci Mayer you choose have hit go to the 49ers and they really think he has a great future pick six for 244 power [Applause] the field Mike Porten wraps him up from behind number 50 third year man from North Carolina if either of these teams is trying to have difficulty rushing the football it's going to be there in the dirt in field it's going to hard it's going to be hard to really dig in it's going to be hard for a fact to make a 45-degree cut really go back against the grain they're going to have to be very cognizant of where they are on the football field when they're in the middle of it here Jo bugle and his first year as a head coach of the the Cardinals are Four Seasons forgettable ones be [Applause] playing with his 16 overall in his fifth team in four years and a man who scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl for the Packers last year you know that balls about six inches shorter Frank that might be a touchdown Terry McDaniel is playing right on his face playing greater kind of cornerback in I'm very risin read that along with his quarterback in her back maybe just a little too eager early in the game just a little too much on that but you're right there I could've been sick so quickly [Applause] third and 11 [Applause] throwback glancing turn to the pattern day nanu as I guess closest to it that the past was a good seven or eight yards from him and the son may have played a part in that one as well I could have but I mean there was no receiver even within the area that was a that was a foul up by the two receivers Isaac doing the fly and I think he probably should have broken that off to the outside Grbac through a sideline pattern and rise and ran a straight confusion was somewhere there between the two of them one of them misread the defense well the son not a factor really but the Sun sets on this drive is the punt by a gr will be fielded at the 19 by Desmond power and the Super Bowl MVP goes knocked down at the 19 by Bobby Houston Mike stock very happy about that the special teams comes 36 yard kick and no run back and Oakland will get the ball early in the first wideouts and ricky dudley the tight end in the second season Farlow Wisniewski is one of the best Robbins Lester homes the X Eagle and Lincoln Kennedy are the guys up front and the Sun going down in the Bay Area beautiful shot from above the Coliseum looking west onto a San Francisco Bay in the city of San Francisco well in the background as the Raiders take over at their own 19 yard line and of course Jeff George a player that was courted by the Kansas City Chiefs they ended up signing elvis grbac but the Kansas City Chiefs made a real run it Jeff George Derrick Thomas they're touted linebacker spent a lot of time with it all came down to how much money [Applause] five the tackle is made by Anthony Davis the Chiefs defensively that Derrick Thomas will play but won't start Booker Phillips and Browning's the three-man front Pamela McDaniels at least at the start with wooden Edwards and Anthony Davis so we will see a lot of Derrick Thomas who's been perked we're gonna see him right now he'll he just trotted out in the game and the secondary is a good one Carter's been to the pro ball hasty stuff tonk in woods to good young second-year safeties and there is there are Thomas wearing a yet an encasement around his triceps on his armies he's missed all of the preseason second and 5:30 the average almost six yards a carry last season but a tough start for him last week and had it come out of the game at halftime with cramps and dehydration an ineffective up to the point in time where he had to come out of the ballgame ran the ball a dozen times only got 32 yards that's less than three yards of carry but one of the the most explosive backs in the game franca of keep he epitomizes what a first really is when he has great speed agree my school star sprint star here in California and is amazing speed and ability to kind of heat he's electric you put him with Jeff George I think he went in motion and Jeff George wasn't expecting him to nobody left in the backfield unless Oakland has to burn and Pro Bowlers go at each other watch ground they'll go to cut Carter keep in mind Carter last year did that to Lionel Washington when he played for Denver put Lionel out for most of the year Tim Braun Dale Carter go head-to-head to get this game under a lot more that the Raiders after burning a ton the yard line George protected well that's Jerome Davison who has won the starting fullback spot tackled by Anthony Davis Davison first-year guy from Arizona State and he's won the starting job and Jeff George comes out throwing the football is what you should miss you look at Reaper at the offensive coordinator he did such a terrific job as new Bledsoe up in New England and now working with chip George Jeff George has a great ability to read though he's played on teams that have been in trouble for most of his career Atlanta he did not get old on a protection he is a he reads the defense really well and releases the ball maybe better to play quarterback has ever done it second [Applause] after the 44 tackled by Jerome woods they listen with the block and next Monday we will head to Dallas good battle coming up with Philadelphia Eagles coming off their victory yesterday against Green Bay ten nine eight P one out against the shocked Cowboys who had one in hand last night in Tempe Arizona and the next thing you know the Cardinals winning overtime each team one and one we go to Big D for Philadelphia and Dallas next Monday night why did the railroads get that team up after that loping Day loss to the Giants big step let's go skier Barbie Williams now a tight end with a 15 to the 30-yard line of Kansas City there is one of the ways that the Raiders are going back to their old passing game Harvey Williams stayed in for protection passing game starts with protecting the quarterback and Jeff George had all sorts of time to survey the field Tim Brown had all sorts of time to do an out and then up and we ranked this was a six second pass anybody mean it was a good read he cutting working against the safety Reggie Tong they had help underneath but it wasn't enough with the accuracy of the Jeff George you cannot cover a receiver this way you can have to pitch the cover men on him not a safety George is three for his first three trying to stay perfect Dudley five of the 16 second-year tight end Ohio State who last year had his moments but he also had some terrible moments he dropped a lot of balls if you don't get better pressure than that lights out tonight this is like ducks in the gallery for him no one even near Ricky Dudley well Dudley is a weapon that is just starting to evolve remember all the problems that he had last year as a rookie with all sorts of drops he had like 11 drops in one three-game span he's a weapon that is really starting to come to the forefront Jorge again good protection has time and has to throw it out of the end zone so the secondary does its job but so did the offensive wine he had plenty of time if there is good coverage in the shortest Fielder basically aside the 15-yard line basically a three-man pattern though again they're starting their passing season Eastern early going around protecting Jeff George Tim Brown number 81 and there again we see the footing on the far side of the field betray one of the radar receivers Tim Brown goes down remember was the defensive back before terry mcdaniel it slip eighth play of the drive second and ten from the 15-yard line the scrimmage gets to the 10-yard line stop there by drone woods who's at the tenant lis third down and five what's one of those or graphics from a year ago one two three and four starting on defense poor Catherine Cunningham they have made some changes defensively and offensively here in Kansas Citian Jerome Woods is one of them he's a big hitter back there he was their first-round pick a year ago and that was a biggie Frank that was quite a tattoo third and five it's the first time the Raiders have had a third down play on this Drive which began at the 19 yard line [Applause] block at the time but talkin with that quickness and burst to the outside Frank even without awesome blocking Phil snorted touchdown wasn't much of a block you're right I think they're Thomas distant underestimated the first the to mention the Napoleon Kaufman and their few back to this game that had that burst he just pulled away from Thomas and then broke it back to the inside touchdown Pat Barlow number 77 was downfield throwing a block but boy threaded a lot adapt to the individual skills of Napoleon coffin sold for for the extra point [Applause] lost control of the ball for the moment that was able to reach spine and the kick is good last week in Memphis is a big packet on the first drive one yards to leave the city seven to nothing [Applause] but the right is pretty happy ray Perkins and the guy on the left hunter Cunningham will have to do some mulling as he's watched his defensive unit just yield an 81 car drive Marcus Allen a backup player right now a role player standing along spica's into the end zone four yards deep tamarick vanover brings it back out to the 25-yard line and here comes her back in the Chiefs with six 34 to go in the opening quarter seven to nothing in Oakland see from the 25-yard line Brett Perriman was the man [Applause] three in a 28 yard line Monday Night Football is being brought to you by Sprint where Monday nights are free and clear lemon fun clever idea after another that's women Miller lights now the official beer sponsor of the NFL and Southwest Airlines it fares so low you have the freedom to flies Andre Rison in there and Brett Perriman the Chiefs have two receivers who have over a thousand yards thousand receptions between second down and it's spread out to give it to Kindle first out of a lot more and finally run out at the Raider 29 yard line it's a play they ran a couple of times without that much success clearly last week against Denver spread him out give it to Anders he's almost a forgotten chief - with the acquisition of Andre Rison and Brett Perriman he has been the leading receiver for the Chiefs over the past three seasons he can do it although he can run the football he's a good blocker Pro Bowl player and it was a good call four wide receivers you go with the draw down and it ran right behind the strength of the Chiefs offensive line the middle of it left guard nadeshot Center can run hard right guard will shields these guys have been together for years a boy I was a nice gentle pop 43-yard runs second longest of his career as Greg Hill fights his way for a picked up of three he'll number one draft choice at Texas A&M four years ago five in his time they thought he might have send a little earlier but a fella by the name of Marcus Allen had other ideas Greg Hill has worked hard though he knew that eventually he was going to take over here Marcus Allen spot Marcus is okay about it we talked to him before the game is no question about happened where Greg Hill is really improved he has worked offseason in catching the football and he death seven receptions last week against Denver you only have three all of last season he can now catch the football take the hill and [Applause] my jeans strap about five yards short of the first down James crap he represents a lot of speed and from that safety position he came up and he'll rise into about a yard yard and a half [Applause] Marty Schottenheimer and Reggie Tong going over things tongue the safety read to Marty a defensive coach throughout his career it would figure his offense is out there when he lets fall defense [Applause] it's part seventy inches 49er takes it to a nine a man Ted Thompson party Schottenheimer said it's been the biggest surprise who can't for me this fall well he's been a big help to working with the rookie Tony Gonzalez pops in the ball the experience with the 49ers a good receiver pretty good blocker coming off the line of scrimmage too but he's been a big help for the rookie Tony Gonzalez but the man four years in San Francisco was Brent Jones Ted Hopson really never got that much of a chance to shine [Applause] to make sure he doesn't advance any further it'll be second and goal awesome swag he'll you know who must look and Greg Hill out there on the field and wonder it could have been me he is Harvey Williams Harvey Williams was the number one draft choice in Chiefs seven years ago and never really in his mind got the shot he operated under the shadow of Marcus Allen and now it's Greg Hills opportunity and Harvey's left to watch them the other side get the number two tight end [Applause] Rison wrestle dad it'll be third down and goal under three minutes to play in the first quarter Oakland with an 81 yard drive leading 7 to nothing horizon has kept his backpack doesn't he this is the 16 he's played with in nine years yes that's moving around his best stop was in Atlanta where he had four Pro Bowls and some really remarkable years Jeff George got a scattershot [Applause] Robert Louis the XT the 37 year old 15-year cornerback for the wink knocking it down from Brett Perriman and he can still do it there he's NFL wise you don't fool Albert Lewis you might beat him because you've lost a step now in there but he knew this was not going outside he can look at the quarterback and he read that beautiful a got the hand around in front deflected the ball a perfect play by Albert Lewis each style happen and the kick is good she's bogged down at the end with getting three too close to it in for so it opened on a beautiful or leaving 214 to go first water Oakland 7a c3 9 and started his pink ocean career with a Browns in 84 and he is the subject of tonight's the Home Depot chalk talk party with record of 14 and 5 against the Raiders and regular season play no other coach has won more games against the Raiders than Marty even though there are five coaches who have coached more games against the Oakland Los Angeles and Oakland again Raiders 14 and 5 and during this decade crawl in twos are the Chiefs against the Raiders Pete's Troy elements to kickoff and he kicks it in the direction of team [Applause] last week two against the others brings it to the 27 yard line where he's tackled by Greg menisci that is a Goodyear blimp eagle up from Carson California in Southern California's made the trek north and providing the Scenic's on a spectacular early evening and open [Applause] most of the people have finally arrived to see strike to have here in part a Bay Area Rapid Transit the or you couldn't move here this morning and it had nothing to do with what happened last night either search data from the 26 yard line George slow developing play develop seated next to nothing is he's run out of bounds by Reggie Tong Aaron lava is the center you caught a glimpse of him when you think about centers and the Oakland Raiders unfortunately done most for his career was cut short because of the eye injury he had to stop playing when he still had a number of years left but no other franchise in the league has had a history like that at the center for this second in Santa pass in traffic is incomplete intended for Ricky Dudley covering on the play was Terry wooden Dudley is a guy who hasn't played that much football with a lot of basketball on Ohio State pretty good blocker but they they got him for to be a pass cashing tight end a lot Todd Christensen he's gonna work on catching the football Mike Christensen is really what came to mind without Davis been thinking about moving Harvey Williams too tight in he had a lot of success in the past and in moving running back to the tight end Billy cannon before that what we just saw there has been Dudley's problem falls right on his hands that he just can't hold on to you know and you can't teach it they're down at Sammy's Harvey Williams [Applause] put in by [Applause] [Music] why the question is was Anthony Davis and do scores of offside Pisa City they're all walking uphill so I think it's going to the play is going to stand Gary Lane is the referee and checking with a line judge and we checking now to make sure it wasn't a false light now they're bringing him back the guy that was bouncing along towards harvey Williams was in motion I wonder if there's some question about whether Harvey was going forward or not at this nap I thought he'd gotten set in the slot he was lined up outside I don't think he ever did waters harvey bouncing along he can continue to move but he can't go forward [Applause] [Music] he might have got 22 and 82 now actually James Jett the receiver to the outside had a little bit of a flinch to her you're right he did if both of them are moving at the same time that's that's an illegality as well but every Williams was moving towards the line of scrimmage with no question the time obviously Harvey thought the snap count was going to occur well before it did [Applause] all right here's the big picture this is jet the light receiver towards the bottom right here screen watch it you see that right there me and Harvey are moving at the same time and Harvey is moving here goes another time out so after the Raiders commit their first penalty we're now chef George Washington sidelines barking at somebody but he wants to get to play a little more quickly he has to wait to break that huddle till he gets to play Jeff George goes to the sidelines yelling gets a story pizzas he's talking to Fred Biletnikoff there on the right of your screen who calls the plays into him well Ken he may have had 12 guys on the field Kenny shed would come onto the field and he was running off as George call timeout ray Perkins has just watched his offensive unit burned two of the three timeouts in the first 14 minutes of the game Jeff is obviously perturbed about whether he didn't get it in time or what not bill Musgrave who was a quarterback in camp of the Denver Broncos when this summer began and is now an administrator here and working with a coaching staff and George had to call to timeout they were down to two seconds on the play clock battle figures any question he just got the play so late he couldn't get a call to get up to the line of scrimmage [Applause] [Music] setting up in the slot pressure this time and George forced the row and down he goes at the 12 yard line on a corner blitz by James hasty well now there's a reversal of fortunes the long pass to Dudley canceled out by a penalty and then a monster sacks and the Raiders have suffered quite a loss in field position 14 yards on that side Kansas City has gone almost the entire first quarter without the bliss and this time they brought them all throughout the corner bliss they brought a safety and and Ray Perkins calling the play had some put ever too many people in the pattern there's no way they can handle this and James pace you just makes a living of big plays against the Raiders comes up with another one era goose to punted but defensive ball line drive kick that over one of the best in the league I feel good runback gets into open territory and a little skirmish breaks out at the 40-yard line and a skirmish on the sidelines as well between Vanover for the Chiefs and Desmond Howard for the Raiders were we're in store for I think some exciting returns tonight both in what returns and kickoff returns two of the most exciting guys in the business are there's James hasty again who just got the sack he's one of the guys working on a Landa Truett working on his jersey he's the sprint man to the outside and clearly the worst job in football is one of those two wideouts on the punt team that gets double-team double-teamed and hammered all the way down the field that's Mike stock in the middle but seizures special teams coach and he's congratulating his guys why anybody would what to be that outside guy and get pummeled thirty yards down the field clip [Applause] by smart little room takes it to the 44 the second quarter wills again with a second down and eight as the first quarter lines down is being Auckland and at the end of the first quarter it's the Oakland Raiders 7 the Kansas City Chiefs 3 and Monday Night Football returns and awards the money seasons Oakland at the oakland-alameda County Coliseum Al Michaels with Frank effort Dan Dierdorf and Lynn Swann we start the second quarter the Oakland Raiders leave the KCC 73's mr. bacos back [Applause] knocked away by terry mcdaniel step for step with Andre Rison Eric Turner also helping out on the plane and they'll make it third down and nine couple of pretty good defensive backs back there Eric Turner of course picked up this year as a free agent great positioning by McDaniel reading it all the way he's getting help from the inside he knew that the Turner was going to help him on the inside rich coverage under erisa no he'll fight for football he's very physical you're going to throw into coverage let's go grab a condor [Applause] picked off two enemy direction of Perryman and Eric Turner knocks it away Anthony Smith was forcing the issue chasing her back fourth down Eddie Anderson the safety the longtime Raider safety and surprisingly one of the inactives he's not hurt he was just put down for tonight's game if they were thinking more in the line of coverage than they were is stopping the run Eddie Anderson is a good run support safety man that was that Brett Perriman a rides a car without healthy like you better get the cover guys out there instead of the run stoppers though guys he's their fourth safety which is 12 years this burgers winding down the Chiefs will take a delay of game penalty here because there are some extra room and we'll see if the Raiders decline it or accepted merits there they're liable to decline it well if the I if the the kicking team wants it the receiving team should definitely decline it but you never know Leslie Tillman is the special teams coach just to be obstinate although if you want it I don't watch it at applying like that how there's any question of that nobody in a red shirt or a red helmet gets anything they want here without it being contested by somebody in black Louie a gr this is B 480 first punt of history never had one [Applause] that skips into the end zone so 45 gross but only 25 not my stock not happy about that so much for that coos bunch seven three open they have it at the 20 get the Cowboys and the Eagles next Monday night the 20 yard line first down to the 22 a gain of two monday night football is being brought to you by Coors Light from partner of the John Wayne Cancer Institute and their search for a cure Ford f-150 strength after strain after strain and the Home Depot Americas home improvement coach but a shot the Bay Bridge Twilight Fox sitting in pull back over the East Bay and open second down and eight [Applause] there's a loss into an external game during town isn't option almost Adam as Thomas coming from the opposite side of the field he had a head of steam - he unloaded on compostela McDaniels there with it ironically they're working on his arm and he's the guy taking Derek Thomas's place from time to time tonight Derek's problem has been the triceps was it a lot higher than the tricep ferry but still there is Thomas wearing that big and bulky but appears to be a cast but it's really suave he says it doesn't bother him at all [Applause] for Derrick Thomas he has made a still say the chief good protection 24 yard line well short of the first down and open will be forced to punt it is not DIF towards long suit since that long pass to Dudley that got called back the Raiders have just run off five consecutive crit Dean blinkers dick will call clinkers clunkers whatever you want to call them very ineffective offensive plays here's a threat van over two years ago Vanover won a Monday night game you might recall against San Diego in overtime with a punt return for touchdown and crafts before this [Applause] now this is one offensive Dillon if that's the delay of game the Chiefs will accept this one another zero on the play clock let's make it six plays in a row now that the Raiders have not exactly been artistic well that was a great punt by Arastoo wasted one but a great one Raiders have led the league in penalties for four years in a row that's the first except that he had the offsetting play before [Applause] [Applause] we got lots of beauty that didn't count this is quite a worker boy put a heck of a lot better than when it started about twenty yards on the ground or now another flag a flag is down that one was about 32 yards in the air and 20 in the baseball infield stop the band we did Lorenzo Lynch's arguing with one of the officials can a band member hurt himself when he has to stop playing you know abruptly like that the harmonica player has a big problem yeah you could could you like throw your Adam's apple out of joiners I could but our guys illegal man downfield against the Raiders how could that flag be thrown clear at the back there at the end of the play I will take I had a discussion here I wonder if they're to growl they say well it was 4011 at the line of scrimmage Howard Slavin is the side judge going over things with Marty Schottenheimer Gary Lane to tell us in a moment what this is all about maybe Joe bugles clear out onto the field he's he's in no-man's land out there he's not allowed to leave the Banshees he's five or six yards onto the field line the true it has been taken out of bounds came back onto the playing field that is a that is they seldom seen penalty on the kicking game that illegal touch mm-hmm and I'm sure that the most surprised person in the stadium is a lot to true it then he did something wrong if you leave the field of play someone else has to touch the football prior to your touching it [Applause] Vanover will have and it's a doubly weird penalty to me the ball was just dying to begin with almost didn't even require anybody to touch it at the end of the play no it didn't require and so a 52 yard punt a bad break [Applause] 14 yard line [Applause] good distance the 36 escape Lag is if the line of scrimmage that code is made at the 41 so after an entirely close to penalty free first period very close to one here in the second quarter nothing but flex well I thought there was an illegal block by Kansas City right in front of the Raiders bench at Divya call now you've got another penalty going up against Oakland face nice mask [Applause] Lorenzo Lynch and a left hook after the [Applause] he had his face masked with Tony Gonzales Kansas City we did great good position they get the ball when we come back seven three open beautiful shot sunset that's Lake Merritt downtown Oakland your picture right there early evening temperature in the 70s and then it's well not a very pleasant early evening necessarily for job you build at least in the past couple of minutes watching his team flag year allowing Kansas City to start described in the open 44 yard line the three consecutive punts for something went wrong on each one of them the net result is his defensive team has to go out on the football field with Kansas City being a little less than 45 yards from the end zone the problems that have plagued the Raiders in the past at joke Google has pledged that he's going to crack all of a sudden here at gate number two early-going our huge Raider [Applause] by Kimball and there's a minimal gain to the 42 yard lines Greg Hill their future back last week carried the ball only seven times and that was a source of consternation for Kansas City fans because in seven carries last week he picked up 92 yards against Denver tonight he's carried the ball seven times for nine yards a little different his average is down just a touch [Applause] 40 yard line sitting at the third about 6 Jessica McLaughlin right there last year the Chiefs did not score a touchdown in their final game at Buffalo and if they had they had won that game they would have gone to the playoffs and this year right now they are the only team in the league without a touchdown and they've got you know they've been noted for their offense they ended last season last year Marcus Allen he goes into a pattern he gets the ball and Marcus against the Raiders which is lays a treat first down to the 25 yard line tank um I'm Mike mort's beer comes off the bench gets the first down points over to a Greg hill he said I feel like a pinch hitter I feel like a t-top relief pitcher well what do you think Mike Martin feels like he's locked up one-on-one with Marcus he over commits to the outside boy that nifty little shoulder shaken moved to the sidelines by Marcus Allen really took Morton and opened it up to the inside from [Applause] the 6-yard line goes Hill Morton and trap make the tackle big Hill up over 210 now in size and Marcus Allen again he is happy to live with us he is 16th year as a running back that's just kind of unbelievable - here comes Greg Hill taking over the starting position [Applause] by Greg beaker second of all this Marcus territory - al insisted we mix in the fact that underlies and has over 500 receptions Perriman over 500 Marcus Allen has over 500 receptions itself man that graphics itself is that's an NFL record 112 rushing touchdowns which will be exceeded very shortly by image Smith who's closing in on it but nonetheless Marcus with the whole thing [Applause] thank baka [Applause] Kimbell Anders goodbye action to Kimmel Anders and it just healthy the safety in Anders kind of eased into the flat wide-open is everybody bought the play action good the play action my grow back well the Chiefs run two receivers into the middle creating a lot of confusion at the rain or secondary nobody breaks out of the pile to run with simple Anders as he comes back to the outside that's just poor play in the secondary of the Raiders you don't lose track of a guy who caught 60 passes last year peach so out of it for the point after and now every team in the National Football League has scored at least one touchdown in this t90 don't expect much response nipples pancit not a hands like that that soil oh look at the blip Sun going down over San Francisco Bay in the East Bay right now we have just seen the Kansas City Chiefs take the lead for the first time on the game by a score of 10 to 7 I guess everybody has their favorites but can there be a more photogenic City that this San Francisco [Applause] stay out of it mix it into the end zone it's [Applause] [Music] 26 against notes early in the season and you never want to overemphasize an early season game when you're playing the AFC West and you've got the Denver Broncos to chase and they're already to enough this game takes out a little bit more early season imports for each team tonight any question about that I mean Denver is obviously everything that we thought it'd be before the start of the season and one of these two teams is going to be two behind Denver that's not good yeah the winner will breathe easier although as we know the loser is not out of it by any stretch of imagination what is it every year some oh and do team has ultimately ended up making it to the playoffs so it's not panic time but one of these guys will be able better off and don't want a doozy if you build yourself enough of a hole as you look at mcLaughlin then clearly do have a chance to get to the playoffs but then you're thinking about that wild card again and you know whole field and all the things you don't want to think about well in it oh and to all of a sudden things start creeping into your head there's there's a confidence problem there are questions about well maybe even we're not as good as we'd hoped we were during the course of Frank it was kind of negative thoughts Frank could kill appear hey can I think back to Marty Schottenheimer who just said I won't go through a season like I went through last year he's changed things dramatically for Kansas City they would have to come together they have to come together period you're gonna have to get them through that's Joe asked for carrying the ball for the first time tonight is hot which comes out of Donnie Edwards makes the stop and comes up a little shaken Joe Astor who wears that shield because in the childhood accident at the age of six he was blinded in a childhood accident with some hammers and rocks well dr. Cunningham that time comes with a run blitz watch the linebackers they crisscross they fill the middle and that is on second down that's a run blitz and a very effective one at that third entity my corner bottom of the screen George gets protection blocks one deep [Applause] but now what officials said yes but I think he's going to get overruled that he is it appeared the official on the scene initially said good and thence the other official with a better view said no well he was the fish along the seam is looking to see if the ball was caught he was the one dad against Macmillan m'appelle in the little man 5:7 but a good man to man defender wanted right right where he should be gets the hands up and this is a great catch one two and he has control we could tell from that angle [Applause] penny said must knock that ball loose when he lost himself in the bear over he's taking it home to thank you right dad he certainly came up with it they just happened to hobble over to Kenny make great with the Raiders now I here said he throws himself in the Bamber vanore still has the ball then he gets caught in the scissors by about four different Raiders it's Wirtz right back the shed I think Tim Hall is the guy who man extracted the football 40 after the shed contact [Applause] knocked away at the 11 yard line by Jerome woods big play by woods wide open was James dent well if anything is reminiscent of the old Raiders in watching Daryle Lamonica number three it's after a big play on a first down dropping back into the pocket and trying to go for the home run this is reminiscent of the way the Raiders used to play football plus the raid his trademark Kenny Stabler Lamanna Darrel Monica who also wore that number crazy if woods doesn't get a handle that football that sucks we get a turnover get six let's second and ten great protection of property bases hi its back then completely 11 join he said the Blitz ah everybody was coming and the Raiders in the job up front Brown was the intended receiver whoa and Jeff knows he should have had that one when you get the Blitz you pick up the Blitz you know you have single coverage on your outside man that outside man was Tim Brown sure hands of Tim Brown and Ted a little too much on it a little too hot look at this great protection out here comes around he's wide open yeah put it up too high and too hot Tim Brown after that remarkable week last week with the eight receptions in the three touchdowns not a factor in this game so far all the way he didn't even have a catch at halftime last week did it forward against we have flags he's a factory he knew it yep well now this will be very interesting because they did not get he first down they'll take it and they'll back him out of fourth field goal position away well except to give him another chance [Applause] all this on Tim Brown there's no question dmoz emotion whether they're calling offsetting heat they've got a call offsetting penalties Tim Brown was going forward at the snap of the football they called offsides on they called Tim Brown for the Raiders Hartman they're just walking off of Henle against the teeth why just take it down call Tim Brown well that's impossible to miss nobody could miss that they missed it I believe Lamar he didn't go Finster makes a third down and five at the 29-yard there are two behind aside Thomas Brown lures both Lord is ready to perhaps come on for a field goal that lost a significant because it makes it a 50-yard attempt [Applause] well Paul Ford's best career best is 47 yards so we're gonna see the funner he's not coming out it's gonna be era booze and the worst part is it would have been off the dirt yeah I'm sure that that weighs in the decision you can see from behind that at the 40-yard line the placement would have been that drop way through the [Applause] which fun it and does and can the Raiders recover before it crosses the goal-line yep No before I say it looked like the ball was touched by one of the Raiders who had his feet the end zone right and so the rest of the plate was irrelevant that's all landed through it right there rusty Tillman the special teams coach and Mike stock his opposite number just did his job he put it down about the four yard line take a look here knots not right here but right here if balls want to be kept it in the ball first of all hit in the end zone there yeah so that's the end of it right there to the 20 it comes 514 to the hat still a free point Monday Night Football now on the internet with a whole new look with live play-by-play action brought charge stats and historical Clips click away check it out ABC in an m.com angles is blamed for a four-yard gain he's run out by beaker and trap across the bay the San Francisco game that bridge is that out well you can see the Bay Bridge and off to the right that's now out of view there's the city of San Francisco and you can see the Transamerica Tower that's the pair of it and it's a little too foggy for the golden obscured right now seven from the 23 yard line takes it to the 25 and he's tackled there by Greg beaker mark is saying that this is going to be his final years look is just come out good - autobiography co-authored by Carlton Stowers good reading for a sports book old Marcus tow-ready yeah but I look good today and the skin put some good pictures yes good start [Laughter] third [Applause] say spy Kevin in complete fourth down but Marcus soon everybody knows the story starting with the Raiders and then the very acrimonious end of that relationship and it's very clear he said I'm gonna go into the Hall of Fame if he goes in and he says he'd like go in and we know he will obviously as a Kansas City chief if he doesn't go close it down yes well he's number six on the rushing list he's chasing Franco Harris who's the next [Applause] about where a third baseman it takes a good hops Kansas City all the way inside the 15 to the 10 a 65 yard punt by a gr got a big jump off that infield it took a terrific bounce when you get a net 65 that's quite a change in field position the defensive line of the Raiders of course they're bolstered by the addition of the number two selection in this year's draft Darryl Russell chosen right after Orlando pace and he'll be seeing a lot of playing time tonight from Southern Cal all six five three hundred ZeniMax own sterile Russell right there on the sidelines this guy this guy is going to be a superb football player for a long time to come and he's going to be able to afford it and what a rotation they have with Russell McLaughlin and Russell Marilyn those three defensive tackle [Applause] from the 10 I'm Derrick Thomas in here down welcome you've got mail you've got you've got nailed Derrick Thomas the pro bowler in every year of his NFL career he is the one of that comparison Jeff George started hot but he's been fooled off over his last five after his fourth before and Jeff froze and it's part of the nineteen Brown very close to a first down that's what you love about Jeff George charm he was about to be sacked for a safety and he just threw totally off-balance but with such accuracy and such velocity dr. Tom Flores before the game the former Raider quarterback look at this he just flipped this off-balance about to get hit before he says he's agrees with me he's never seen her arm like this he says Tech technically right now Troy Aikman is the best he has ever seen in this game there's that thing to talk to boys and boys a former head coach and quarterback himself that he really agrees that there's no the one word you always hear when you talk about Troy Aikman his accuracy is pinpoint accuracy and the mechanics so yes so good he steps into it he's a classic thrower Jeff George there's really nothing classic about him his footwork is is somewhat awkward but the skill of that arm and the ability to deliver the football is at time stager [Applause] complete any 30 yard line about 10 yards of field so obviously some contact taking place I don't think that was on hasty who was the cover man on brown he's got a hole and an automatic first down [Applause] pretty good coverage and they sued us complaining about it he was man-for-man on Tim Brown that's a tough assignment here he is he lines up three or four yards off yeah he grabbed him on the Jersey we've seen a lot worse but there's no question he did have a hold of the Jersey Anneliese open 3 the 25 Casey a deuce for 10 first down from the 25 yard line lambda truancy some Intel or Atlanta there's a game going on here yes I don't know if he thought that there's no way he was going to get thrown the football but this is fairly nonchalant 20 baht I had his eye on number 50 you think that might have got their attention because number 50 Anthony Davis would have put him in the seats well I know he doesn't get your boy sign up part of the game second at ten giorgos that's quite a fork five Brown who was across the 35 to the 36 yard line to move the six first with the unfortunate injury to Jerry Rice the Bay Area now belongs to Tim Brown when it comes to catching the football and he'll carry that mantle pretty well [Applause] catch of the night we got eight last week and caught them all in the second half three four touchdowns and just Jim Brown just kept the Raiders in that game last week Marty ever the teacher and Kansas City did not like its personnel defensively in this particular situation and uses the timeout sym caught 90 passes last year and now they've taken him off the punt return game and I think that's good I mean he's up there his record for numbers of return was broken yesterday by they'd make it but he's been a very prolific return man and I think at this point in his career and particularly bringing in Jeff George it's time to get him off that funky turn Damon particularly if you have a dozen our they make it past white shoes Johnson yesterday I think it total punt return yardage and only 90 total yards for the Raiders here as we approach halftime eating one of them on that first drive it sounds like somebody turned the switch now [Applause] George throws and it's 2:45 Timmy takes it [Applause] woods for yard pickup and we come to the two-minute warning two minutes in the first half remaining an open where Kansas City leads ten seven yeah he stalks them really in question what's the top of the house what is the opposite of smooth okay okay what's the only chip that tastes like a baked potato with everything on the COS issues in the words introducing ruffles that works it's got all the delicious flavor of a fully loaded baked potato now that's potato chip next time I bring the cat inside your car's fuel system lurk dark forces that can spread their dirt and filth so if you have a dirty fuel system use STP complete fuel system cleaner dirt has met its match STP complete fuel system cleaner the Star Wars trilogy special edition is now [Music] special events behind the Star Wars trilogy special edition on video Green Bay is a small town someone lives here it means something it means the entire community has been diminished it made an acquaintance a neighbor friend most importantly it means there's [Music] spreads to bring you visa card go Packer beautician Carly two minutes left in a good first half at the oakland-alameda County Coliseum each team coming in with an opening day loss but like a typical Kansas City Oakland battle tank chain seven is the score Chiefs leading by three Marcus Allen looking on as his defense tries to stiffen first down Oakland at the 42 yard line of the Chiefs George has found Jimmy Brown here in the closing minutes of the first half and I stay with him a voyage it intended for jet but covered by macmillan little move in the pocket on the part of Jeff George you're not going to see him run the ball very well and he doesn't want to run the football but he slides around in the pocket pretty well he's happy over his last few years to flee with Atlanta and before that Indianapolis he learned to get rid of the football quickly in the run-and-shoot offensive June Jones down to Atlanta a good outfits by a good coach hard to imagine these two have problems because you're gonna lose heart imagine anyone ever proper to Joe [Applause] second down and ten at the 41 yard line around the fact when you talk to Jeff George a little bit about that Frank you get the feeling that that ruling may have come down the suspension from up top ie Rankin Smith's in Atlanta as opposed to June Jones or if it's Jeff's version it could be a little revisionist history there ever he looks it in a different way third down and two Hoffman takes it inside the 30 inside the 20 [Applause] dr. Cunningham that was really a well blocked play up front by the Raiders offensive line there they're making some good blocks at the point of attack for a line that was really an effective last week only 45 yards rushing take a look at this saying there's Lincoln Kennedy out front Lester Holmes comes in with a block Pat Harlow's in the play as well and a good move by Kaufman to get out of bounds stop the clock they only have one timeout remaining Holcomb did not take it inside 18 yard pickup Joe ask is in the game at running back a sidearm sling is incomplete and knocked down by James hasty the corner on the last five plays that's about the third blitz off the corner that günther Cunningham and the Chiefs have run there he has obviously made the decision that he has got to try some different things to put pressure on Jeff George a four-man rush is not getting through the Raider offensive line and cutting him the man you're looking at now is having to take some chances so chances can end up a touch [Applause] 81 yards they did nothing and George cut them up when they came at the cliffs and they shut him down second and ten George steps away steps out of bounds again conserving midsole time out of bounds at the 13 yard line but now they're looking into third down and the conversion situations turned about eight well there's where he rushed for kept seven back in coverage and it paid off even though the board didn't get a great pass rush on Jeff George the seven back in coverage blanketed all the Raider receivers of course down inside the 15 when you have those guys stopping into coverage they can play much tighter they don't have to be concerned with anything deep they can play in the end zone in front of the receivers corner incomplete looking for a flag nothing Dale Carter covering ol and 'true at the intended receiver looking for a flag whipped around in a hurry - did he look like the guy that was looking for one as well hand in hand early druid his right to complain Carter was right to look around for a fly because there could have been one Thrones goal for to attempt a [Applause] my cold Ford comes with 103 remaining in the opening ten seven there's a good-looking speed with the six-time Pro Bowler of left charts this guy is as good a guard as there is in the National Football League it's a lot of people excited wins all the polls for the dirtiest player in the league and whatnot pays a few fines along the road yep yeah he had a big year last year but the guy can flat-out play I don't think there's a football team in the NFL that wouldn't love to have him playing offensive line for it what for a Chiefs Raiders game it's almost a gentlemanly contest Wiz with Penn State [Applause] Conrad Dobler would be so proud backup quarterback to the Ravens David Queen [Applause] there comes the mark Vanover on the return in these return in three years three four touchdowns four yards deep slang is strong a couple one from each director up at the 29-yard line that's a smart play by van over to come out of the end zone he really has nothing to lose why just take the touchback and start at the 20-yard line maybe you get the big return the Raiders have used so many of their timeouts that even if the Chiefs don't get a first down I still don't think the rains funny timeouts to the Raiders have one just one well the Chiefs and the Raiders go back to the 1969 AFL championship team on this feel the significance of this game as you watch damage Thomason COS of the past current defensive coordinator of the photo this was the final game in that history of the American Football League in Kansas City wanted to win the Super Bowl and a luxury savory battle for the football he doesn't have a lot of speed as you saw right there but he will come down with the ball 41 yard game move to the inside the I think that the infield more than anything else was what stopped him here he was going to get caught from behind and almost looks like Andre went down on purpose it almost looked like me he just gave it up and went down well you put a move on Larry Brown who's really struggling here since he came from Dallas as a Raider let's watch this Andre just went down he didn't wreck or anything else he saw the news from be tackled and looks to me like he's a-- he looks right there live to fight another day he protected the football and gave it up went down I think that was his concern Jimmy he had raid is coming for me besides that I'm gonna cover up this football you met Larry Brown Frank you're right every team in league is going to go at this guy every chance it [Applause] here comes Markus taken down by Eric Turner one of the new Raiders at the 41 turned in a long time Cleveland Brown / Baltimore Raven no huddle here Casey with [Applause] Grbac that's caught at the 31 yard line by Bretton Harriman and that is a first down city takes a timeout that is actually there that's their final charge timeout the board had him with two but it was really one in slow Anna loosens up forward maybe a long field goal attempt and McLaughlin is shaken stay out of it see Chris has a long leg he his best is 59 yards yet we saw him kick won a playoff game a few years ago well the Chiefs nail guards with with this amount of time 23 seconds they have plenty of time to run a play or throw a pass complete it and get to the line of scrimmage and and spike the ball and stop the clock so story on offense is hoping they get off the infield right dick they need to gain some yardage analysers gonna kick from the infield hey shut up they have a time enough time to run just about any play in their in their band well I guess it would not seem rising against Larry three wide receivers up there [Applause] it's the open man it's rising at the 12 Brown Andre Rison there's no secrets in this game and until Larry Brown starts making some big plays for the Raiders he's a marked man well he's healthy at a the damaged foot a year ago to the question it was a bad foot but he has just not come back from it then of course 22 the fallacy didn't weigh that much man for man the Raiders play a lot of and he comes out of the lineup right now [Applause] when the pass is caught by Rises at this time useless short little fat flag the flag is down and he's out of bounds for this this could be this is something against the Raiders I think Chiefs are pointing to the Raiders Joe bugle when asked about the penalties he said we talk about this every day cutting back in a relatively penalty-free first period without so the second [Applause] Lance Johnstone not a good place to do it nope what Davis the different Chiefs team that was a year ago Christine was a leading receiver a year ago and now they got Andre Rison Brett Perriman is ready to come back me are going to be a much different football team well you're at the 7 yard line now you have to make sure you don't run a running play where you stop the amount this will be a fade into the end zone or something of that sort of thing or complete a pass outside the end zone and have been receiver good that in you have to think clock here as well that is going to dictate the tool and they have talked about this remodel [Applause] now that got seven seconds intended for Greg Hill and they are not going to run another play even though we saw a cup there were a couple of games yesterday where this same sequence sort of came into play and I'm firm member the game was the Philadelphia green baking where they ran a play with six seconds to play that little three yard incomplete pass and then still had time to kick the field a little something to chew on here prior to this kick the Raiders have lost the last 16 games in which state trail [Applause] twenty-four yarder that's good and this is going to be a 17-game then they'll trail at halftime and not win if they do not come from behind because we have two ticks remaining in the first half and Kansas City is reassumed the lead that's the longest streak by any team in the NFL if you are keeping track but stop and think about that we talked early on in this ball game about the Chiefs in there and their poor record in games decided by seven points or less but this is a remarkable streak that they have lost their last 16 consecutive games where they have been behind at half time if that's the case they better hope Desmond Howard gets a big return and if the Chiefs kick at the Desmond Howard they need some type of an examination I would not under any circumstances let Desmond Howard touch this football powered a high school teammate of Elvis Grbac and he put what 19 touchdown passes from him to st. Joseph's eyes won't Cleveland and anyone to Michigan together and he was the quarterback of record when Desmond won the Heisman Trophy yep these two have quite a history together [Applause] so out of it since it Anja tingle and he's brought down at the 33 that'll do it for the first half but half hit open like the Kansas City Chiefs at the half leading the Oakland Raiders by a score of 13 to 10 and let's go to New York and Chris Berman [Applause] ABC's NFL Monday Night Football brought to you by Budweiser beechwood aged for crisp clean classic taste Nissan who reminds you that life is a journey enjoy the ride and the game the new film with the director of seven starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn night has fallen in the East Bay in Oakland California here it is a beautiful shot the Oakland on the right and Alameda on the home of it your old buddy Lee gross cop a former number one draft choice he snuggly he was somewhere in those twinkling lights laying back hopping grapes into his mouth absolutely team the good night Dominique and left Elvis Grbac is loosening up as we get ready to start the second half the Chiefs beginning this season tough schedule the two games on the road at thinthread open they go home next week to face the Buffalo Bills who come off their victory over the New York Jets yesterday and the Oakland Raiders will take on the Atlanta Falcons next week in Atlanta and some question about their quarterback Chris Chandler suffered a concussion good time to come sit like some prepare men in on free ride and a good time to pick buckets [Applause] Jeff George getting ready to come out after the kickoff because Oakland will receive this Desmond Howard and he's trying to kick away from Howard and most to use will and that's why Tim Paul to whom he was discussing things a moment ago will not the former pretty good little tag team here rusty Tillman longtime New Orleans assistant out here special teams coach we get ready to start the second half Toyota and that one was almost overrun by Howard who had to reach back to pull it in and then Desmond is stopped at the 24 yard line and that's where the Oakland Raiders set up shop Fred and we'll let Nick off one of the old-time Oakland grace the receiver with some words over the headset there he is fabulous ready one of the many Hall of Famers produced aware of the silver and black of the Oakland Los Angeles Oakland Raiders certainly one of those colorful wide receivers in the history of the game of football and it's the first down out for the Raiders from the 24 yard line they start with Harvey Williams going in motion a little toss to cop and he gives it up and around to tan Browns the 30-yard line and taken down at the 36 yard line by Reggie Tong a first down for Brown in a reverse like that does so many things especially early and a half like this the obvious is it picks up a first down but the other thing it does it automatically now retards the backside pursuit of the Kansas City chief because the guys that got burned on this one in this case Pella McDaniels number 77 the guy who's really responsible for the upfield contain on that side of the football he's going to be slower in his pursuit now for the next couple of series thinking that maybe another reverse is going to come my way that accomplishes a lot of things first and ten from the 36 yard line is Jeff George steps out throws on the run [Applause] like a 40 Kansas City a first down buddy party Ricky Dudley in Texas the football is and he can catch those kinds of fall for me he can make fantastic rap one-handed leaping catches where he has a problem is what is right in his hands boy that's past protection that Archelle and Gene Upshaw would be proud of another display of giving Jeff George all sorts of time to look downfield move around slashing great effort and that that that might be the best catch at Dudley's career six six and maybe that's even as high as he could go to get it a former basketball player to Ohio State that didn't hurt him Thomas off the field at the moment at the 42 yard line with Pella McDaniels spelling locking flag is down at the 42 so it's looking to get the ball to brown but good coverage by hasty carry lane [Applause] talked about Thomas out and McDaniels in and there is been with Thomas out Marty Sondheim as group is not generating much of a pass rush there four guys aren't getting to the quarterback with Derrick Thomas over on the sideline remember Neil Smith is playing now in Denver and Gunther Cunningham is trying to figure out a way to pressure Jeff George with a four-man rush and if you can do with the four-man rush what do you do Dan you gotta bring guys from the corner or the safety blitz got the gamble first and 5:30 showing our by Ricky Dudley [Applause] [Music] Anthony Davis tough to do it all the way give it to chef George he read it quick the ball shoot ugly but finds its true pass rush whatsoever again we see a display what Jeff George can do if he gets a clear and clean and unobstructed look at the football field he will find the guy that is the most open and by god he will getting the football good look at this nobody anywhere near Jeff George the Davis is trying to cover him in no chance pull forward to the point after quite a series therefore Ricky Dudley hands up with a touchdown a doctor that is acrobatic leaf couple place prior so the Raiders score on the first drive [Applause] we take the lead 17:13 [Applause] frustrating it must be for Jerry Thomas to have been a spectator on that scoring drive of the Raiders and how sweet for Ricki down late 76 yards and only three plays that trailing position the Raider pull Ford been doing this all night sends it into the end zone to guard sleep fan over straight up the middle - the 30 and shave that abounds by cold Florida near the 40-yard line [Applause] Anthony Davis the man who was beaten dr. Cunningham the defensive coordinator and the looks of agony especially a man on the left because of this great catch this first reception is he went up all six sixes high and he could go to come down with it bed of course on the touchdown they tried to cover him with the linebacker that just doesn't get it down enough somebody could run like this [Applause] it's fun [Applause] fifteen years in the National Football a mentally Albert can still come up and make a tackle in the team ten yards for the hole but a man his age Albert will still come up and stick his face and thing Oh [Applause] that is Kimball Anders the fullback again Albert reaches out with that left then gets the right Hill boy you pointed that face mask to a lot of lot of players would have gone to that vest we could've avoided it 10 yards [Applause] for a gain of seven yards tackled there by terry mcdaniel and rise and caught the football there are a lot of receivers we see in this game today would be peaking he did he's tough the combative guy you'll fight you to the football and he'll use you come down with it you've got that sweaty and he's good as anyone around [Applause] they call for Kendall Andrews out to the 49 very close to first down the Harold Russell in the blonde draft choice makes the stop good call to have on him and you got a blitz coming is there anything the Kimble Landers doesn't do for Marty Schottenheimer in the cheese he is a tremendous blocker as we've seen tonight when he gets an opportunity to have the football under his arm out in the open field he makes people miss and of course he's a very gifted pass receiver last two Pro Bowls have been graced with the presence of Andrews you saw Greg mineski down in the Crouch trying to get a good line on this spot and it's a first down [Applause] Joe bugle longtime assistant it was Joe who coached the hogs he was in charge of the offensive line at Washington offensive assistant under Joe Gibbs and then he got an opportunity to be the head coach in Arizona for four years [Applause] and the players went to bat for them in the offseason convinced now Davis the Huayra Marcus Allen picks up six losses of football a scramble in the baseball skirting around McLaughlin comes up with the football Albert Lewis almost happen and Marcus box it up Albert Lewis almost lost it tried to handle it [Applause] [Music] I rain she's been good to us I reckon it's time I go into town and get us but he gets the hand on the ball rips it away from Marcus Allen Albert Lewis almost picked it up and had it go for a touchdown but at the bottom of his pile Chester mcLaughlin comes up with the football and the Raiders now get a chance to display a bit of a killer instinct let's see what they can do it behind yards or Hornish and then eh cloud of dust makes the catch at the 47-yard line for a gain of six something about September aid from Marcus Allen the last time Allen fumble last September a B fumbled twice at Kansas City against the Raiders KC still won the game before man pass-rush last time by shot Niners group no pressure on towards sooner or later they're gonna have to gamble three [Applause] flag down that inside the 5-yard line they move out over the what speed they put the flag down at the 6 yard line it's a 47-yard to run are they gonna call a block from behind one of the raiders threw a block down around the five-yard line I think James jet was in the vicinity [Applause] against hasty and I don't live in a sea could have caught him no it's a guest James jet James James indeed foul was against Higgins toffee screen is over 40 he looks like he might be closing and there is the illegal block by James death for in an unnecessary block too hasty was not going to get to Napoleon Kaufman but there's no question that yet committed the foul the crowd boos when they see it on the replay board but he hit him in the back and knocked him down that's you know al Davis as his student of football man as he is he knows doggone well that's a penalty and it makes it first and 10 at the 16 yard line Oakland up by four early third quarter [Applause] the sole setback [Applause] [Music] the Chiefs don't listen Jeff - he might throw another three or four touchdown passes before this game is over another flat footed unobstructed throw by Jeff George what a touch too the Chiefs defensive line is being obliterated by the Raiders front five over you'll see over one Kansas City chief over the linebacker Donnie Edwards was in front of him but a perfect touch by joy [Applause] let's just watch his team knows what he's saying the emergence of Rickey Dudley coming up with the game of his young professional career and the Oakland faithfuls first look at what Jeff George could do if he's given the time [Applause] the job for two decades over John and Leigh Mills warmer euler a guy I picked up for special teams and that's exactly why they picked them up and there is a fumble [Applause] a rugby scrum it's changed hands about five times at the bottom of that pile if this ball ends up belonging to the Raiders chaos is going to break out here near the crafts or the hit they didn't see the fumble but the players did Rob homered number 57 is a Raider that's very close to it being over is awful close to it Reiter is the same day out [Applause] the football what Bob Homburg is the last guy to average somehow able to find oxygen at the bottom of that pop and comes up with a football [Applause] if he laces equal the panel is the sparrow now if this is indeed the old Raiders with their new arm you're going to put the ball in the endzone that's what they used to do you get the ball you get the turnover you go up the top get everything you can first down at the 16-yard line [Applause] no flag incomplete Barbie Williams said how can he not throw us tearing wood was there [Applause] and not playing the role of an Indian either [Applause] who Nats a reach nice reach down the ball I don't know if one of the factors was that the ball was thrown deep enough into the endzone that Harvey wouldn't had a play on it anyway there looked like it could have brought a flag I've seen less than that there's the Blitz second down and Davis can't get him now he does he forces George to throw the ball into the turf that George is wincing Geoff was grimacing as he was getting up chef George Mitel landed awkwardly on that right hand we shaking it [Applause] here's to be alright they're checking for plays on his left wrist and Kansas City is going to have to do much more of this they did it after the first drive of the Raiders in the first quarter and we're very effective with it then they got away from it in Georgia I'm alive we've got to come back to it Anthony Davis kept after him this team wants them finally put Georgetown we saw what the Blitz can do you can't do it every time but the Chiefs went far too many snaps without a blitz [Applause] third down and ten no bless a simple four-man rush and the pass is incomplete thrown into the middle of the action Tim Brown right over the middle Jerome woods the nearest coverage fourth down so the Raiders who would have had a touchdown or it not for the penalty can't be knee yards on three plays and we take a look at Thomas working against parlo and that's Derek taking strictly an up field rush and then when he tries to go back to the inside can't make the move and Harlow just smothers it Cole for dizzily a 34 yard field goal [Applause] Vanover is disgusted his fumble sets up three more for Oakland 950 left in the third it's now Oakland for 27 Kansas City 13 Goodyear blimp Eagle hovering high above the oakland-alameda County Coliseum home of the Raiders and the Oakland honestly live in the Bay Area capacity crowd looking on here [Applause] 27 to 13 every kip-up into the end zone tonight sends this one to the coal / that abounds up at the 34-yard line now let's football coming your way Colorado against Michigan that's the first game it's a national telecast from Ann Arbor noon Eastern Time and then good regional action check your local listings the game in your area Notre Dame Purdue UCLA Texas Maryland against Florida State college football doubleheader next week to the big d we go the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys in the home opener next Monday night 34 yard line rose-leaves Rison he makes the catch and the play was whistled dead at the 40-yard line [Applause] the emotional Andre Rison I repeat it again you want to receive a jerk quarterback who will fight for a football and get his hands on it some way this is a good look at Andre Rison because it's pretty good coverage Frank white urban Daniel he closes quickly I take it back he did give the middle of the field expect the help from Eric Turner to the inside they found the soft spot [Applause] from the 43-yard line a little tough walk to Kimble and ER [Applause] 27 yard line doesn't matter whether it's Montana or bono or Ganon or grbac they've been doing that for a long time at little dump off to Kimball and it wasn't until Elvis Grbac took a good look downfield he took a look at another two receivers downfield maybe even three before he decided who can pick top it off he's sucking downfield looking downfield checks it off and dumps up to Kimmel and no place to go this wrapped-up like when this opposite touch the Kansas City version of the San Francisco offense and and Grbac the courts very familiar with that it's gonna improve considerably when Tony Gonzalez that idea starts working into this lineup he's like Ricky Bentley was a year ago perhaps even better because he sure handed he's gonna be a big help second as well and it is caught by the sudden star Andre Rison Sutton as far as Kansas City is concerned anyway Atlanta it's a Cleveland remember he was gonna be the godsend they're ARPA delegating a huge contract that didn't work out the Jacksonville to Green Bay they come and there he is in Indianapolis it's right that he started there in fact he was originally there and as part of the deal that sent him to Atlanta so that Indianapolis could grant accept George is the number one pick in the 90 minutes in the lineup also five first half of the 14 the screen is set up to Greg Hill and it takes it to the 7 yard line thank you bye James track 87 well crap save the touchdown - good screen able to pop through it and make the Daleks bread pudding handy defensive he's one of the few defensive coordinators in the league who actually calls the defense from the sidelines three [Applause] one of the things you expect from a strong safety when you get there bring something with you and make the good tackle look for a moment like he'll might have had the corner but press closes it off quickly we're trapped turned into a fine safety to eat with a cornerback to struggle there and stern into a real hitting strong safely yeah he fought off the block of Brett Perriman it looks turned it along to and here by 14 points and forced the settle for a field goal which would still even down by 11 well you have to run stuff twice in a row and I think it's a good decision you need the points on the board to take your entire heart away if you got down here and came away with nothing never likes to give up points but [Music] [Applause] it's a lot better for the cheese than it would have been two years ago without a two-point conversion and it really would have been a frustrating into the drive at least now down by 11 well who scores could do it good 27 seconds that I fact brought to you by Prudential in every season in this decade at least one NFL team has reached the playoffs after beginning the year with a record of all and to at least one and after the kick we'll get a chance to just take a look at that list one of these teams is going to be going to it again though [Applause] the pickle off from so out of it [Applause] is up to the 32 yard line here are the teams in fact one year there were three teams that started with a Rutger to go on to and made it 1990 and on that list we go to the 1993 Cowboys that was the team and Emmitt Smith held out at the beginning of the year you'll recall they went on to Jerry Jones felt compelled to get him and he got him in and the next thing you know they won the Super Bowl last year was the Patriots one two and they went to the Super Bowl before losing to Greenberg and the way they've looked at the star this season might be going back yes first down for Oakland at the 32 yard line [Applause] started the second half that one in 12 earlier this one's a little shorter it's about a seven yard pickup and Lamar Hunt one of the greats one of the founders of the American Football League that franchise that he owned back in 1960 the Dallas Texans three years there wonderful man great gentleman hall-of-famer classy man so this man he suffered through last year kept a team of 13 and 3 in 1995 and wound up nine and seven he made foot he felt were necessary changes on a lot of foot on second and three [Music] [Applause] frankly they really make tremendous consistency when you think about it over the last nine years you have had Lamar Hunt owning the team of course is for the only owner in the history of the team Marty Schottenheimer coaching and competition has been the president and ineffective general manager and that's the longest-running triumvirate right now in the National Football League of honor president / GM coach the so wonderful place to be for a franchise - that's a great city to plan you talk to the players they love to play their coaches love to be there and they're playing for a great owner again but you can't get much it's one of our favorite stops on the Monday night so we'll be there and early November when they face Pittsburgh on 3rd after a stuttering shark often is implicated take it to the 44 yard line stop by Reggie Tong first down [Applause] boolean caponata just taken himself out of the game he saw that last week I mean he's got a motors and runs been about it about 100 rpms too many and I did he just he doesn't really tire down quickly they'd like to get the ball to him 2025 times but he needs a little break so they bring into asking that's a--that's not bad although in college at the University of Washington he was able to carry the ball with that kind of a load and he carried out [Applause] you got a shove here Donnie Edwards teaming and shove army Williams while the ball was in the air there's a there's a page out of Dick Butkus his old playbook Harvey Williams is coming across the field looking back for the ball the balls in the air and that's a lot as obvious as it gets behind the line of scrimmage Harvey Williams ran a pattern that came all the way back behind the line of scrimmage let's look at it you see where the ball was 44 yards line 44 yard line this redefines a shallow pattern oh boy yes far behind the line of scrimmage after he was hit he was that's right they know the contact putting behind the last very practically the end zone well that redefines a shallow pattern doesn't it does second down and 10 now from the 44 yard line throws and it's a low throw in Texas for brown and knocked away by Reggie tongue [Applause] nickel defense coming in now for Kansas City they bring Derrick Thomas back in and the interesting see what they do third down sure pass well they can Dan or will they not if they don't come this guy this guy's gonna be gonna kill you well on a fire I'm just speculating here but on a four-man pass rush tonight during the course this game Jeff George is throwing it somewhere around an 80% completion percentage the four man it's not the Georges it's the greatest quarterback that ever played the four-man rush from Kansas City isn't generating any pressure raters take a timeout for territory to a walkie technology may be at fault here at least in the first half in terms of the timeout good work leg third down and ten now line [Applause] well you gotta call that well Donnie Edwards had come across no contact I think to thee but if he's on the Great Schism right the rule is if he's unabated to the quarterback you're supposed to blow the whistle he was a bathing himself at a certain point maybe that's why the whistle didn't blow what separated him because he a baby well supposedly when a defender is clear across the line of scrimmage and has a free run at the quarterback [Applause] they're supposed to blow the whistle and stop the play cold at that point to keep the quarterback from really getting walloped kind of answer that question is whether or not they were going to come on the bus thirty-five it really points out doesn't it guys the luxuries the really good defensive teams have when they can generate a pass rush with only their front four defensive linemen you know the green baize and analysis what a what a luxury those [Applause] [Applause] this was the previous play Jeff Schwartz gonna look at Donna Edwards fall backwards do you think Jeff George is not a competitor I think he's a little feisty how about Kevin green yesterday head-butting truck and Miller without a helmet before the game did that surprise unbelievable [Applause] incredible third down and 10 from the 44 yard line [Applause] the ball comes loose incomplete has a line the truth james jet with great speed and mark macmillan back there with him and had a little scrum breaks out but the pelican a hand on that i don't know whether just dropped in the villain is only five seven but he glues himself to a receiver there's such a bad throat just take a look it was right there and McMillan's look at that oh yeah macmillan got enough of a look he had a hand in there certainly distracted him it looked like it might have glanced off the grill and shoulder pad it did that's great he does she play by the little man mark macmillan just got enough of it no actually it missed his shoulder pants and hit his left arm he took it out of it yeah but what if what a marvelous throw though by Jeff George one grazed it was all it took [Applause] they're caught by a van over at the 13 yard line 242 remaining in the third quarter and Kansas City will begin deep in its own territory mark McMullen he's been a very functional cornerback New Orleans Philadelphia now over here v 748 down ballot he's never missed the game get that side of man he's tonight's his 81st consecutive game at a hundred and fifty pounds that that's remarkable don't forget check out all the NFL stats and stories and all of the rest of NFL [Applause] on your harmonica the 14-yard [Applause] way there to where the tip Hopson got pop by Lewis Lewis just did that time that out he's so good at it and he knows it [Applause] come on Joe sure was [Applause] I don't know what type of a year 1983 was for Cabernets and chardonnays but it sure was a heck of a year for quarterbacks when you think the three of them are still playing in the National Football League Evert Louis Lionel Washington fifteen years later Hopson oh he was wide open turbot overthrowing and he knows it pops him wide open he did his job her back didn't do this Dan we have to research the rest of that that point you made whatever year it was for chardonnays and Cameron is well that's it that's the type of professional team that we are I would expect no less remain they'll answer that question depending upon your selection is expected case for example the report Johnstone breaking the play up at the line of scrimmage Kimball and news for next to no game it'll be third down and long [Applause] they're the Chiefs right now are entering that stage with two minutes left here in the third quarter they need to make they need to make a move they need to get out of this end of the field this would be 8 first down [Applause] but he's gonna have to run out of well short of the first down that Kansas City is forced to text down by 11 with 145 to go in the third well that's just fine play by the greatest secondary that didn't release their men to come up compression her back who can't run the ball that well they knew he was not going to pick up ten yards on it really great discipline on the part of the greatest secondary how many games if they lost women to Oakland half day 16 horsedick [Applause] purrs it back upfield gets him [Applause] ran laterally picked his spot downfield well he got a rock he got a block back at the beginning of this thing that was looking like was going to be awful close to a block in the back got a radar down on the shield on the lane right at midfield notice it's the old picket line and it works so well there's the block right there got another one coming up here too I'm Henry mills I believe was the Raider that was another one of the family if he could have called [Applause] Desmond Howard runs so well in traffic wonderful in snakes you're never getting boozing and pecking he just is slamming and accelerating with every cut and look at the speed with which he takes it upfield men's Albert Lewis 15 years and playing on special job just thinking the same thing Frank what the heck is he and I was gonna be thinking what in the world is this I'm 37 years old for crying out loud second oldest quarterback in the league only older quarterback is Darryl Greene in the rest who will never quit [Applause] [Music] we'll go in for the touchdown well French barb did it yesterday in the game in Philadelphia and it was intercepted Todd saw brundin the top run did it for a two-point conversion last week and Jeff George just makes a terrible play sometimes you think you can you can just do anything sometimes you're so competitive you make really dumb mistakes meet us all one might have to resurrect the bonehead award yeah that was mind-numbing and just trying to make something happen give a lot of credit there to Anthony Davis who went right over Napoleon Kaufmann it was the pressure of Anthony name is that that was a big-time play by Davis the Danes hasty that turned a Kansas City Raider game around couple years ago with an 80 yard interception return and now Casey will go for two because they're down by five and this is the only the second interception of Daren Anderson's career and give dr. Cunningham at least some credit the Blitz that time paid off big-time the Kansas City Chiefs [Applause] seems completely disregarded regulators let it go and as it turned out the Chiefs weapon of disregarding and Toby's he was wider than we had a helmet come on well it there's a helmet off of Eric off the head of Eric Turner and he put it back on as quickly as he could maybe we ought to consider intent [Applause] like that here well it means that the conversion is unsuccessful that stands off the Raiders are confused because of Greg Hill being left alone on the outside Ron Fredrickson doesn't know what to do so what they just let him alone elvis grbac does not see Greg Hill that is the picture of frustration oh I can understand why you feel that way yeah it's funny Kansas City and everything knowing you you you line up in a formation you rarely use in a two-point situation where Oakland is a little distressed over what's just taking place you get exactly what you want and your quarterback there's a look at you that's Paul Hackett's intent where the world was by flanking out hill he puts a running back and a wide receiver obviously the Raiders treated one of them treated him as a running back one of them treated him as a wide receiver and they left him alone Wow that's two points that was there for the taking and the Chiefs weren't up to it [Applause] Martis god I know you were open but I didn't have the ball I've worked so hard in the offseason Oh Mike by catching my reception game would have been a three-point ball game now it's five well we have had a little bit of everything to this point 21:41 one as OMC would say commas are 27 22 has been Howard is that to receive the kick and this one should go under the but just barely and there's been Howard brings us back to the 15-yard line 56 seconds remaining in the third quarter a rather lengthy third quarter yes well Jeff George his first interception of the season he has five touchdown passes and and one interception but what a costly interception put the Chiefs right back in this ballgame there it is the second lowest percentage among quarterbacks with 60 starts who've entered the NFL since 1970 in a second who has the worst percentage reflection think about it for a second who would have had a worse percentage the names of perfect good quarterback Napoleon Kaufman carries here for yard the hint he had his own and his own saw he had his own song and his own son who's not a football player himself right about now something about Rocky Top as well and the father of Manny Archie Manning play with all those years the inspiration sometimes the numbers are not fair Archie should write a book about when who the players play for bad thing players going in second to a wide-open Timmy Brown [Applause] 37-yard and Ricky Dudley just put one on Gracie Tong this is this is a big man to be coming back up field and putting a pounding on somebody and I don't think Reggie tongue will forget that no Reggie tongue will be covering Rickey Dudley for a lot of years the way things are shaping up in these two teens watch there there's Dudley [Applause] Alameda County's hanging saw that hit end of 3 over 27 Kansas City 22 Monday Night Football back after this local signals water starts in Oakland first up for the Raiders from the 35 yard line Brown begins the third making a catch and forced out of bounds by Jerry would never gain of about six you need a selfish sugar back his team down by five and we long the opportunity to find the wide open hill on that 2-point conversion play drop although just have to forget it there's a lot of football left to be played here for Greg Hill 15 minutes worth then and that play is gone forget it second three [Applause] well a five man rushed that time by Kansas City just keep showing something a little different and I think that's what we're going to try to do got the Cunningham playing the mind game with the open offense well cut they're just more than anything wishing I could get some semblance of a pass rush out of just my four upfront guys it's not happening third and three in its team : bye Donnie Edwards for a couple of tip passes for that Raiders - but let's take a look at the statistics now through the first three quarters of plays a total of 49 points having been scored in the game interesting game if seesaw it back and forth the move in another three bars since total yardage is just about even turnovers KC turned it over three times and opens only turnover was the errant pass by Jeff George that was in a septa slide Aaron Anderson [Applause] leo arrogance [Applause] and that's a mistake you know fare captured inside the ten-yard Vanover just did it at the seven that's a large mistake 51-yard booth Grbac starts deep in his own territory lies her Frank winters a package center broke small bones in his left foot questionable for the pact scheme next Sunday stanley bridget the dolphin pullback dissipating his right kneecap big blow for Jimmie Johnson got at least two months Lemoore Lathan of the Carolina Panthers ought to stop Giants good-looking [Applause] five six weeks in Greg Hill [Music] up to the 16 yard line for gain of eight guys you know what a a guy really gets the hook when you know you're not gonna play anymore when your defensive team is out on the field and you're sitting on the bench over with the offensive football team and that's what Larry Brown is doing right now look at that he's sitting over with the offensive team he can't see at all what's happening out on the field I think it's pretty safe to say that he could the pig [Applause] he picks up the first down and it's a costly look to a lot of people around the league were very surprised out that Davis loves trophies and in a way Larry Brown was a trophy because she was coming off a Most Valuable Player Award in the Super Bowl the others to fix against Neal O'Donnell in the Dallas miss Paroo game and a lot of people around the league who know a lot about football felt that Davis ridiculously overpaid for Larry Brown well to fit into his type of defense I think they were concerned about happy ladies love to play the man for man defense and Larry Brown did not play that much man for man typically a year before when he asked me a good season [Applause] they cost to buy time it opens up for the middle for Tony Gonzalez working side end from the University of California Bruce down at the 40-yard line because he took this one hour you can call him authority dude it right for what an edition is that's a running trophy that he's got well all the other defensive players are over there gathered around Fred Winningham the defensive coordinator who working a game from the sideline ready to go in with whatever defensive package he might call what's no part of that [Applause] Rison make satanic big night for Andre's seven catchers for him kind of you're wondering how elvis grbac and do with the deep out you saw it right there a lot of arm good move by rise him he's a separation from the cornerback no frank even though they only scored three points against him for last week Grbac really played a pretty good football game man people in Kansas City were pleased with the way he performed in from what we've seen tonight looks like a pretty good move by Kansas City side [Applause] reaches forward and please make the cash and I think of Brett Perriman injured with that sore hamstring he might be able to find that extra half yard make that catch I even wonder about sending him on the fly pattern they've been waiting for him to get healthy now for some time Louis wants so he needs just some adjustment of his shoulder pad Albert Lewis on the man for man coverage the Pearman Thurman had a couple of steps on Lewis if that ball been thrown to the inside have six points [Applause] [Music] are you trying to fake the defense well they weren't fake [Applause] not a call if you make it at home the whole stadium boos well we've that's true but to the chief stand Paul Hackett let it we've seen Anders break that play several times tonight for a couple beats on Z guard warning shoppers so see watch the origin Chuck of 8 here to convert incomplete intended for Canaan news forgot Luis their puck would have had to throw that perfectly for the completion again because of the coverage of Albert Lewis but I think that he was looking Elvis was looking over at referee Gary Lane he wanted to he wanted some type of a call for a late hit or roughing [Applause] Darryl Russell the high-priced rookie and Russell really didn't do anything wrong no he could have driven him into the ground of a lot harsher than that Loui a gr [Applause] a floater fair catch call for but not me by the Chiefs at the 6 yard line getting the Raiders there with 1058 left in regulation it's Oakland 27 Kansas City 22 Monday Night Football kindig be next Monday you know the point guys even though that last drive of the Kansas City Chiefs didn't generate any points it was one of their best drives of the night starting from their own 8 yard line they take it all the way down the field and when they turn it over the Raiders started their own six that's it that's a very effective change of field position it'll be a better driving played offense now here right need to get this ball back in that field and they have them deep right now second down and long and second down a 9 from the seven yard line [Applause] Sally Edwards ABC's Monday Night Football is being teased by the complete line of 1997 lichtenberger automobiles Lucent Technologies we make the things that make communications work these are the preferred car to the NFL it's everywhere you want to be in first brands corporation makers of STP complete fuel system cleaner [Applause] first outline will be remaining in the fourth quarter [Applause] George thanks again [Applause] everybody in the forepart knows one is the primary receiver last week three touchdown catches you look at Perkins and tonight that's ten catches for Tim Brown James Hasty Pudding he really difficult position of being locked up man our man would stem Brown all the way across the field he's in a trail position to start with and there's no way he's going to catch up the balls right there hasty has absolutely no chance to make a play on that foot and how many times have we seen that pattern to tim brown with ten receptions the Raider record is a dozen they're great tight end days pass per share that at 12 so 10 round with a lot [Applause] got 50 somebody been in their head couple of great years Christensen had a year to where he had over 90 receptions I remember that's it it's pretty good night's work when you start knocking down a dozen receptions we can go to him around what eight against the Oilers and then never reset you in the first half almost single-handedly pulled that game out with Jeff George 16 seconds left to go he scored the touchdown to tied it up and took it into overtime second the 37 [Applause] already and in effect Oakland has much negated the drive the Dan talked about a good-looking driver by getting it out at this point even if they don't convert here a punch still gonna probably send Kansas City deep into its own territory so 22 man game the office put on a good drive got the defense in great field position in the deep sense thus far hasn't been able to do anything with a big play form right here and the two-point conversion could really come back to bite um biggest it down by five down by three third down and four it's getting bigger with every tick of the clock from the 38 yard line [Applause] from the 46 yard line that moved the chains everybody was slippin but even he looked like he went down without being really challenged all that mud see he's looking like a fatigue football player and he's taken himself out again in it a couple times last week they finally had to take him then we finally had to take him out last week because of dehydration I think that symbolic of the Raiders radio can mean communication system being down again yep he saw the sign he said guarding Tess I think was any good the message I think Tess is that was last week on NBC sorry first down at the 46 yard line john browning this modern technological age and this is what we reduced to it we've cut wristbands and chalk and magic marker there it is number 14 [Applause] it may be nicer the quarterback could call his own plays if you got into this kind of a problem when they used to do that there's like 1994 [Applause] and it's incomplete Rickey Dudley in the neighborhood but he was kind of spun around the other way I think he turned the wrong way neither that a chapter or he anticipated the wrong turn maybe it was 15 instead of 14 you never looking for this is bizarre he third-down 12 a very big play to hit the Kansas City not only in terms of not necessarily field position at this point but now that the clock becomes a huge fact when you pick up a first man you can chew up another two and a half minutes 13:12 [Applause] section this time it's Dale harder and the Chiefs having a traitor territory at about the 40 yard line and in for Ricky Dudley but Jeff George again throwing completely off-balance tried to slip it out Carter is too quick for that he had pretty good position on Dudley and Jeff George thorne totally off-balance did not have what he wanted on that ball not a good play no but it's also the throw of a quarterback who's got tons of confidence it takes he can get the football in anywhere anytime Dale Carter was too good a lot of fun looking forward to it next week in Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles always fun finally Raiders have got themselves back in level tip towards trying to do the impossible and throwing it off balance it's a pro-ball defender Dale Carter who reacted quickly on the ball intended for Ricky Dudley and gives Kansas City possession he had three interceptions last season gets 97 off to a start here in the second week and very timely right and marthy could throw more balls his way a lot respect to Dale Park [Applause] this is Hill what a job just to get back anywhere close to the line of scrimmage you look down by Dan these big guys today are so fast great hell of all his quickness could not even he could not get away from the 280 pounders they're so sweat this is a North and South game today that time we couldn't get away from a 320 pounder Darrell Russell that's why he was the number two player thank you [Applause] what concoction a little option to good pressure by Lance Johnstone comes in from the outside sheds the offensive tackle Glenn Parker gets in there puts a pretty good shot on Garba Kansas City had two of the four men but the Raiders did here late in the game four-man rush pressure on the quarterback third and ten time for some Marcus Allen heroics crashing [Applause] I ran a loop on the inside tackle tackle stuff Darrell is the player that looks behind comes up through the middle unblocked and Elvis just couldn't find anywhere to go with the football he was trying to go to Marcus Allen and it hooks up ten yards deep and he didn't have time a football player right in your face we're gonna see number 96 for a lot of years first sack tonight Tech is a very short one to time because Desmond Howard fair catches it at the 26-yard line with only 433 to play that's not the pun but tangy are needed and the Chiefs as well well there's a a case of Jeff George and the offensive team really being picked up by the defensive squad of the Raiders that's where you slap hands with those guys as they're coming off the field and say hey thanks a lot [Applause] and right now I think up there Cunningham and the Chiefs defensive team they've got to take some chances they've got Frank they've got it they've got it I don't know how many tricks he has maybe better usable to the outside goes nowhere Donnie Edwards watch the money they're anticipating the readers working on the clock then they have to think about timeouts even at this point they have do the Chiefs all three Napoleon Kaufman right now is a running back that just doesn't seem to have it he just doesn't have any quickness any bursts just walking back to model after that there could be any residue from dehydration in Florida termini asleep and once again we have a he's been sucking oxygen on the bench but it's not that kind of a night hey I agree I just it's a case of you know you wonder last week he gets dehydrated meanwhile Kansas City has taken a timeout they're gonna put some time back on the clock that was the announcement from the official biggest Casey opted to use a timeout here which teams do you take it well before the two-minute warning and then of course it compels you to stop them and give you a lot of times come of it coming back the other way stay back in the glowing Kaufman they said it in here don't be able to wonder to use image the feature back 2025 times of all gaming and what we've seen tonight will be so last week I'm going to happen second down and 14 [Applause] those call that they're going to say it's all clips ball the brown cause the fumbling is hit by Reggie son the play is over Oakland more there's no argument there and it's a first down up at the 39-yard Marnie realistic among other things your gamble when you take your timeouts as he did you can't second-guess that but then you deface that's the whole 11 resets is now 155 yards with Tim Brown run away from the Greater record the knee of Reggie tongue hit the football but Tim Brown was already in the seated position and this is their quarter spilling Kaufman in Kansas City has to take a timeout here stand it down to one Tim Brown last week and this week it's funny to think about this team the great receivers of capped off by the Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff left branch in the rush first time history the Raiders to go over 150 yards receiving in back-to-back games BB's a good one [Music] 3:26 remaining in a regulation in Oakland second week of the season we go to Dallas next week Dallas against Philadelphia I mean interesting Collier McFate you have in your quarterback Jeff George a second long er teach 326 remaining any begat Kansas City with one timeout remaining styles [Applause] if I was anybody on the defensive side of the ball for Kansas City I might keep track of that guy just tell me quad 11 nine of us a subtle hint I get your attention Harvey Williamson Louis [Applause] and gets spun down by hasty but at least he stayed inbounds and that forces Kansas City to use your time out there final one so only only once will these clocks stop for the cheese and that's it the two-minute warning [Applause] and again that mist two-point conversion is looming very large there now Dan you put it up here Jeff George with the good hand you got great receiver number 81 you need 14 yards on third down hit a first down you pretty much lock this game up where a lot of things have to be going through toe bugles line one is it that Kansas City has moved the football pretty well it's not that your defensive team has just completely smothered their offense so how do you play it ultra conservatively run the football punt and say my defenses want to do it well that may or may not be true with a guy like Jeff George I think you have to play with the confidence of well not being afraid to put the football in here I have one way to stop the clock with Kansas City vessel to avoid in Coffman the single back has been relatively ineffective here the second half Berdych [Applause] he hasn't been affected by the ball you know something Kansas City good for the school he was not the primary receiver Jeff George took a good hard look downfield trying to find somebody and found Napoleon copper but again he had a lot of time to look down the field no pressure at all lots of time in Anthony Davis Anthony Davis is the guy that's responsible for Napoleon Kaufman he's looking right at him when he comes out of the backfield and then lets him go [Applause] Joe asked us and came to city cannot stop the clock it will only stop with the two-minute warning so if Oakland can pick up one more first down they can run the clock out and I think what we just saw right there in a critical situation like that showing the confidence to put the ball in Jeff George's hands and let him make the decision when you could have gone conservative says an awful lot about his stature in a relatively short period of time with the Oakland Raiders Jeff George is the man here at Oakland second down ten at the 39-yard line the Kaufmann gets a breather at Kauffman I carry the ball 21 times most carries he has ever had in a game 21 with 87 yards but the biggest play may have been that last one this reception it's a parent that's a guy who's whipped rookie there's there's a guy who left it out on the field two-minute warning Raiders up by five what would happen if when a quarterback threw a pass there was nobody in the endzone to make the catch we wouldn't win it's the same for the United Way volunteers in your community now what if there were no volunteers to feed the hungry or helper needy child we wouldn't win this year you'll be seeing a new NFL United Way team together we're building better communities the power of teamwork [Music] don't forget to start your Sunday each week on ESPN with NFL countdown with all of the highlights or medical front on each Sunday on ESPN don't forget next week will be in Dallas as the Cowboys take behind me Philadelphia Eagles great rivalry resumes nothing Dallas really games in the past on Monday Night Football and they had been memorable [Applause] by the way Emmitt Smith did the x-rays were negative he was Burke last night in the Arizona game and they're gonna check it out obviously throughout the week it appears promising for what we understand right now though no broken ribs they will take another look at him and the court of damnit he felt better today than yesterday so will the poor does he have it Eggman in the gang next Monday night ready broken up you you would not feel very good today no nor would it you've slept very well or or done what Sue Ellen hopefully never have to sneeze well it's third down now as play resumes third down and seven [Applause] come close and grounding not the ball-carrier napoleon Kaufman George winds up in the dirt and now they can take the clock all the way down in fact they'll probably take it all the way down and take the penalty if they have to because they're gonna put anyway [Music] [Applause] there's a man on an island right now the cornerback is always on an island but that's it's an island of a different sort right now are you wrong he had to be in the defensive scheme at the beginning of the game because he was in the game and Andre Rison made a key kept on him that turned into Kansas City points and he came out in the second half and he had not taken part in any kind of defensive meetings our get-togethers uh that's the first time he got up from the bench right there in time go [Applause] so the clock down to 109 that Grbac will come out and again because of that miss two-point conversion earlier you'll have to guide them all the way down into the end zone without a timeout from wherever they wind up with a football now [Applause] lyoha Raghu's - not for the Raiders holding kick just a little too far nice right that over picks it up knowing he has nothing to lose right touch back with signal [Applause] and you're back now needs to go 80 yards in 58 seconds with no Tio's [Applause] we're saying it before [Applause] right away for Elvis to announce his arrival in Kansas City I am at home here [Applause] right [Applause] my clothes as the open man it's a 19-yard pick up to the lake Dawson who's been quiet tonight first batch of even James Pratt for the tackle again no time [Applause] it's not only a two-yard game in 1 second down [Applause] build Google on the verge of his first victory that head coach through the Raiders Marty Schottenheimer in danger of going on to for the first time in his career he started coaching in the NFL in 1984 writers the Raiders the last two times game with just a three-man pass rice to tour the ball [Applause] second down and ten and that's Washington that side of the field the sideline markings have almost disappeared I certainly couldn't see from over here where the the definition of the sideline is with Berman trying to work it you can see his both treat her well looking like covering on the ground [Applause] but his ethos finds the open man this time it's paraben he's to the 31-yard line right now they want to spike it get there the spike if they ever get set make sure there's no penalty spike the football clock ticking down a couple of plays from the 33-yard line that's that is the problem with a three-man pass rush it's acting very casual about about this play clock is ticking down you're asking to your guys to beat two defenders one of them to whip a guy straight up and it's not happening here fall at the 32-yard line ten seconds left in the game Oakland up by five [Applause] we're gonna see [Applause] Oh [Applause] beautifully thrown risin what a game for rising there are no flags incredible and for all of you that are believers that the pre-bid defense only prevents you from winning there is a textbook example what a bitter bitter huh play for the Kansas City Chiefs to put on the Raiders this how well stunned and Andre Rison has just become the first man in the history of the National Football League to catch a touchdown pass for six different teams a good right there let a good movie look to the outside you had a party but had double coverage on me didn't took it upfield he was wide open and burbot right on target but I'll tell you something elvis grbac he didn't impress the mayor of san francisco but he might be good enough to be the mayor of Kansas - take that Willie Brown terry mcdaniel right head rising all to himself watch rise now he makes a little move to the outside right here little puffs look and mcdaniel comes up he runs right by her back is absolutely firming with it yep and I have thought but Daniel would have kept him in front of him no matter what credit Kansas City's offensive line on that entire drive down the field nobody back two-point conversion Johnstone moves first attend Chris while the left tackle flinch to return this mm-hmm that is amazing coached it just like iconic Marni who whose tag has always been a conservative very rarely has won a game well very few coaches have won a game in this fashion first of all we've all been around this game long enough to know we have seen it before then everybody in this stadium had seen it before because nobody left prior to the start of that Drive some of them are leaving now but you saw Carl Peterson a moment ago bugle is about apoplectic and I think rising can unpack there's the president of the Chiefs and in the meantime under a rising it's just about burned-out Davis's house down they did all I mean unfortunately there's a bit of a rain where we do yes I know you do what what a sense of stunned admissible disbelief on a part of everyone who roots for the Raiders out I can't imagine the anguish that your bugle is feeling right now listen tacked on to last week of their loss to divvy waters oh you think this game doesn't hurt that they came from behind three times last week took it into overtime only to lose down there and now this tonight a game that they just completely took control of at the beginning of the third quarter they're on the verge of running Kansas City right out of the stadium this is the two-point conversion after the penalty and that's incomplete intended for Ted Paulson and not just the kickoff and the clock starts another flag out Raider touches the football another flag yep back at the 17 yard line [Applause] and so this will be the Chiefs Chiefs 13th win against two losses in the 1990s against the well open Raider now just say this we still have a possibility that Desmond Howard returned here we do but if he if he winds up with the football and this this has to be a little ground ball to one of the upend if Pete saw out of his kicks this ball to Desmond Howard yeah and he runs it back for a touchdown mm-hmm I want somebody to keep a camera on my knees shot at Marty summers he goes after feets toy right Marty will be in court tomorrow being a rain meanwhile the Dan talked about that streak at halftime and it will continue 17 consecutive times do the Raiders trail at the half and lose the game and also we talked about their performance in in close ball games here we have another seven points or less ball game but the Raiders loose well Andre Rison he's a that emotional and then the volatile guy occasionally and started his career at Indianapolis and then to Atlanta in and out of the headlines and wore out his welcome in Cleveland he was gonna be the salvation there and then the Jacksonville and Coughlin said that's enough of that and the Green Bay and they used them because Brooks got hurt last year he was functional but didn't resign him and he's really good in case he said hey luck he's the kind of guy we need just paid for his entire year one of those cows Stanford plays well they did get it to Desmond Howard they got it to the right guy but the game ends with Howard tackled at the 47 and the Kansas City Chiefs have pulled off a miracle victories no other way to describe it and in the long history of this series it's appropriate that right now after 74 battles there been two ties and the Raiders have won 36 times and the Chiefs have won 36 times less than a minute no timeouts a new quarterback whole new offensive set of players with Andre Rison impairment and people like that and look what happens of all the people who turned this off they'll wake up in the morning tonight I don't know what happened I hope there weren't many you from Dallas next Lincoln killing out Michaels thank you for Dan Dierdorf Lynch lon good night [Music] Thursday night it's
