[Music] thank you very much for that nice welcome and Gary and I are very happy to be back here I was reminded yesterday that I was here two other times I can remember because it's backwards it's 1986 in 1998 or 1989 and 1900 Gary and I are working on a new project now which we're going to experiment with you it's a new new set of music that we'd like to try tonight of standards that we're we're trying out but first of all we'd like to begin with Gary making sure that his vibraphone works correctly and we're gonna start out with some older music a piece that was called love castle thank you for coming and it's great to see you have a good time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you very much and now we have a piece from it was written during a visit we made to Hawaii we were there for four or five concerts and did some rehearsing and Chik showed up one day with a new song he'd written that day it's based on a flamenco rhythm and which is called and Alegria and we're gonna show you the rhythm a little bit before we play the song Alegria [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank if we'd like to now start to play for you this is new music this is a piece that was composed by Kay Swift and P James that's what the internet said one of them must have been the lyricist but we're not going to sing tonight I learned this song from the great optim one of his pablo recordings this is an old song called can't we be friends and it was definitely inspired by Senor Tatum and we'd like to try our arrangement [Applause] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you [Music] now we have a song by Antonio Carlos Jobim a great songwriter from Brazil and we both have a connection to this song because both of us played with Stan Getz back in the 1960s I was in Stan's band for a few years and when I left I wondered what vibraphone player he would find to replace me but it turned out to be checked playing piano instead so we both played this song with Stan it's that's one of the earliest bossa nova Brazilian pieces that Jobim composed the favorite with a lot of musicians it's called Chagga de saudade [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] you [Music] thank you thank you very much we're gonna continue now with a beautiful Bill Evans composition you know as well as being the major influence he was on the pianist's including myself well all the musicians he was a real innovator and a poet at the piano I think he he was a great composer - he wrote great songs and this is one not so well known but beautiful piece called time remembered [Applause] [Music] snakes piece is an original by chick and we were talking about influences before Bill Evans being a big influence for a lot of us musicians we also have influences that are not in jazz and certainly a big one for keyboard players especially is Mozart and chick was kind of picturing in his imagination something that would be a combination of Mozart and Korea so we have a song called Mozart goes dancing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you very much well we're gonna play a song now probably the only song of the set that you probably recognize the melody I suspect so I'll leave it as a surprise [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you you [Applause] [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right audience turn [Applause] q little Gargery to the rear [Applause]
