a little bit into it [Music] hi it's rodney here from wholesale automatics and today we're talking about customers rides now we've never done this before and hopefully over the next coming few months and even years to come as we end up with some customers amazing rides we'll actually do some videos on them now obviously this is a nissan one and we're not going to be restricted to that it's going to be whatever ride we get in here that's just something that's particularly nice something that's special about it and when we saw this one we thought this one's very very different not just from the tub but certainly the engine and our involvement so let's talk about this car now this is a nissan gu patrol it's actually owned by patroller park in lillydale in victoria and i'd like to thank them very very much for lending us the car to do this now what makes this card unique is that it's actually a 6bt cummins it's actually got a 480e four-speed heavy-duty automatic it's obviously it's a coil-over so they've actually done the right thing they've got all the coil they've got this unique tub and in talking with the team there i actually thought that this was actually something off of a navara or something like that it turns out this tub is actually a genuine gu tub that's actually was imported they actually had another idea on it but it actually ended up in here so i actually thought it was absolutely amazing i mean look at the thing it looks absolutely the piece now they obviously use it they originally built this car as a demo car they were going to do conversions with it they were looking to see if they can use promotional uses certainly for towing they also have their own race cars that they actually go and tow with and everything obviously a workhorse in there and obviously they own a farm i can tell they obviously use the thing there's bits of wood and chip bark in here and that and i know because the family's actually got a farm not far from where i am and um so today as we go through we'll take a sneak peek underneath the bonnet we'll certainly look inside the cabin and see what they've done there we'll put it up in the air and we'll have a good look at what's actually happening underneath and what's been used underneath and that and um if we get a chance we'll turn around and we'll certainly go for a drive with it so this is it this is the customer's ride for today the nissan gu and um i think next step how about we open the bonnet and we'll have a sneak peek what's underneath the bonnet now get a load of this it's a really big engine fill in a hole that was probably originally left by a zd30 i mean let's face it the nissan patrol particularly the zd30 certainly lends itself to all sorts of engine conversions and we've seen many over the years whether it's ls or td42 diesel conversions but this one is actually a 6bt cummins it's a 24 valve it's a nice b it's the very last of the cummins before they become dpf and um what's unique about this car is that this car is actually engineered there is actually engineer certificate so they've gone quite thoroughly through all this um there's a few things that i didn't know i'm not a cummins expert all i know is i learn all this from my own customers that we build lots of transmissions for different um cummins engines and high horsepower toyotas and nissans and everything but geez the cummins are coming on strong we get so many enquiries for it now and i actually thought that the cummins had six different rocket covers but it turns out no the later ones actually had a single one and in this case because the bonnet was so close to the engine i know that the the team at patroller part actually actually custom built this um this rocker cover out of a billet so they actually didn't it looks absolutely amazing everything in is fairly tight i mean look at the size of the exhaust pipe i can barely get my hand around the thing is huge it's got to be like five inches across it's got a massive intercooler in the front and of course they've made the same little mistake as what i talk about with the rest of my customers and that is they tend to sacrifice the transmission oil coolers and they try and relocate them anywhere else in the car because let's face it you know the intercooler it's everything yeah it's not sometimes we need to leave room for the um for the transmission or coolers and as they've said the only problem they've had a little bit is a little bit of overheating there um but they're soon sorting that out they've learned it they've brought it to us we've had a bit of a looks at it there's nothing that can't be fixed easily so what i'm telling you is everything i tell you is the experiences that they've come up against uh a couple of the do's and don'ts that i know of and i tell you what they put their heart and soul into this everything in here is absolutely beautifully done and i've actually had a chance to drive this thing and it absolutely sounds absolutely amazing that snorkel geez it's a rear-facing snorkel on it and the noise coming out of the snorkel is absolutely incredible obviously a custom-made air box on it like i said everything's all done so i think next next step is to actually jump in the car we'll see how they actually you know got the interior to look and there's a few different versions there so let's jump inside and have a quick look now if i was going to pick on anything in this car it's the fact that it actually doesn't have skid rails on the side because getting my beautiful physique in here is not that easy when you actually don't have the side boards on now the first thing that i see when i actually get in this gu is that it all looks factory the whole lot's been done factory the pedals are factory the center console the t-bar and i actually like that i like that for a couple of reasons one it's probably the most simple way to do things everything's readily available patroller part certainly has all the parts to do all this it looks factory easy to engineer you know from a glance you wouldn't know that there's anything underwater in this car at all and what they had to do with this t-bar though is obviously the standard nissan patrol t-bar shifter from the zd30 or the tb48 is actually only a three position t-bar so it goes neutral drive second and one and that is because the overdrive button is actually on the side of the handle but the 4l80e transmission that we install into this car has actually got four positions so it needs drive three two and one so what the team actually did that they actually just physically file an extra slot into the gate and they actually just make it so the t-bar can actually go through all the gates and i'll try this and i'll see if she'll let me do it so i'm in reverse neutral there we go drive third second and one so they've actually so they've just squeezed it in the same amount they don't quite line up exactly but to look at and to use it works absolutely perfectly i've also seen people use the her shifters b m shifters uh the r car shifters which are the shifters that we actually use at wholesale some people like the ratchet shifters and all that and as long as you can turn around and make the center console look absolutely brilliant when you're finished you can use any of them what i like to see though is that the actual center console is actually it's a finished use and it looks exactly factory as it is in this case they've actually hidden the copy shift display all the way down in the back here they've got a nice little spot that they open up tells me what gear we're in our transmission temperature whether your lock-up's on and all that type of stuff and that but as for an interior very very simple they've obviously put all the leather trim in it it looks sweet super comfortable these seats are absolutely incredible okay but if you need to know what sort of seats or exactly what trim you know you need to call the team at patrol apart to actually ask what they actually fit it in here but triple gauge pillar the thing absolutely looks absolutely incredible so how about we get it up in the air we'll have a look at what's going on underneath and then we'll take it for a drive now get a load of this i've never seen a pan and an engine pan so long in the car before it goes from here all the way out to here the thing is huge you can see where the boys have actually modified it a little bit so the steering arm can actually just miss it here but everything fits in pretty good i mean this exhaust that we're talking about before at the top it's just huge and it's the same length on the same diameter should i say all the way through and they managed to get it to fit everything actually fits in here really really well obviously it's our 4l80 transmission which is why we're actually having the conversation about it today and this is actually our cast aluminium pan that's been designed actually to miss this cross member which is absolutely amazing now the adapters for this conversion are actually made by roland from cem which is custom engineering mechanical and he makes both the front one and he makes the back one and he makes the front one to suit various different covens so it doesn't matter if it's early 12-valve 24-valve the lighter ones or whatever he's got them for pretty well everything we've worked with these adapters for a long long time and these are the ones that just fit in first time obviously our dust cover goes straight on we've got the um the pan as we spoke about this is just the standard nissan patrol transfer case the tail shafts i'm not sure exactly what they've done with the tail shafts but i'm going to say that the front one is standard although they have put a little spacer which looks to be all of about 20-25 mil spacer in the front and on the back one i can't see whether it's actually been modified or not but it's really really close still got the handbrake on the back of the transfer case and other than that it's pretty well standard on here obviously the suspension's been beefed up to hold all the weight as i said before definitely a coil over rear end which is great to see because i don't know if ever i've seen a car that can make me change sides i tell you what it's very much this one absolutely incredible and there's plenty of room for everything they've got all the winch and everything there's nothing actually it looks like it's actually been crammed in here there is plenty of room i can still get your hands up in between the exhaust up in between the tail shaft there's lots of clearance between the tail shaft and the pan yeah the hole up everything's actually been done extraordinarily well obviously a compy shift transmission control is what's run this we saw the display upstairs and it's probably what makes most of these kits come together you can do them as a full manual we've done a few as you know like full manual reverse pattern all sorts of things but i would safely say that 95 of what we do for towing touring um certainly getting out there and some of the most rugged four-wheel drive tracks out there and they're all fairly well used the automatic transmission controller from compushift and um i'll tell you what everything's as perfect how about we get in it we go for a run and see if we can put a smiler on this cameraman's face back here let's go all right geez the first thing i'm going to say and notice is that anything above idle is incredibly smooth to drive it actually drives really really nice it is so smooth a little bit more aggressive as it gets down to idle but when you've got six big pots in a big cummins engine you're going to feel it at some point as soon as it lifts off of idle it is so smooth it drives like a normal car like it's absolutely incredible here we go go through we'll get out here on the road a little bit i think it drives itself doesn't have to do a thing at all i'll rejoin here we're lucky it seems that we're in a nice spot here we'll get going put a little bit into it [Music] and it does it so easily like with so much ease see what these cummins motors absolutely incredible now i've driven a lot of cars with a lot of power before but tear up and this particular engine has been tuned it has had some power dialed into it i couldn't tell you exactly what the figures are yeah it doesn't blow black smoke which is good it drives absolutely incredible here we go we'll get into it just a little here [Music] oh that's only half throttle i'm too scared to give it full throttle oh that jeez that goes but i tell you what the guys down at patrol apart they put an awesome car together which is why we picked it as one of our um vlogs that we wanted to do one of our customers rides and um it's very unique he thought it had to be something special we like to tell you guys about it and once again yeah this is something i'd love to own i'd really like to own this is it enough to convert me from the mighty toyota though i don't know but special thanks to everybody involved patrol apart cem wholesale
