CHASING BULLS in the LOUISIANA Marsh - An Original Film

some breaking news in our national lead where hurricane laura is rapidly intensifying at this hour the latest warning described unsurvivable storm surge winds of 140 miles per hour gusts of 155 miles per hour and you can see some of those outer bands already on shore zeta came on with a 110 mile an hour winds remember category 3 is 111 so it's right there and forecasters say it could bring life-threatening storm surge from louisiana into south mississippi and lower alabama and beyond we should anticipate severe structural damage in some areas zeta this is unbelievable zeta is now the 11th named storm to hit america this season the most in any season ever on record well we made it something like 9 hours and 600 miles from my home in texas to the legendary delacroix louisiana spent the past hour changing out batteries because you know it's not a fishing trip without some hiccups it's 5 a.m right now drove all the way through the night i got maybe an hour sleep alex got zero just getting some twigs rigged up for tomorrow this is an exciting trip is a trip i'm not prepared for much and although we are exhausted and although we are not completely ready one thing is for sure and that is that we are eager to get out there louise in a marsh and chase after some redfish my favorite fish on earth hands down really close second to the striper but i don't know these guys pull pretty hard we'll have to see so we're just getting everything dialed in for hopefully a really good day of fishing in an absolute heater video for you guys just praying and keeping our fingers crossed that everything does not break right does not break not break but does not break there's our little cabin where we're staying nice little spot but yeah we will catch you guys bright and breezy life and i'm excited to uh learn these next few days learning is definitely going to be the name of the game this is a fishery i don't really know much about i've been here a few times i love this place i have so much appreciation for this place but i've never really taken the time to figure this body of water out for myself it's pretty daunting especially in a 18-foot bass boat but we're gonna make the most of this see if we can find some um some red skis and just have a day but the conditions aren't necessarily ideal but sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches looking forward to this [Music] oh that was so cool decent one came up and just crushed it did i say we came here for redfish i actually meant they came here for a large amount like i said conditions are not ideal it's baby there we have his first redfish in a basketball in louisiana we don't know what the hell we're doing we're experimenting like i said in the beginning today's video we are learning i do have to give a quick shout out to my boy ty hibbs for just always giving us some decent intel yeah this is this is just such a beauty thank you go tell your friends to play let's go incredible man [Music] looking at something i don't know what i was doing but i was not paying attention what was going on that's a decent one around that edge a little bit bigger than the last one looks like hi lord these guys hum on a little seven foot rod using the googan green on some redfish this is so wicked just smoked me just to smoke me gorgeous fish okay there we go oh yeah a little tiny swim baits with bash rods check out that one he's stiff as a board he's probably wondering why it's so cold up here and why it's so warm back in his home that's a nice one we're getting a little bit bigger here that's so much fun dude and they bite when you least expect it oh pretty tall not very long pretty damn tall gorgeous catch and release oh man dude just got a head just got a head for sure make sure we revive this guy oh back down to that warm water a bit of a a break between that first fish and this fish but this time of year it's not necessarily the easiest to find them and you know i i'm not an expert red fishing but i hope to be by the end of this trip i hope to know a lot and learn a lot that fish came on a point very typical every fish seems like enjoys a point so we're gonna keep working up this little pond might try some more open water stuff what's really limiting this right now is the shallow water and the wind i can't really run my my my v hall boat and a whole lot of this stuff so we have to kind of pick and choose where we where we want to fish today so i mean given the circumstances this is so much fun we're doing good [Music] that was a lot of fun as far as i know i still have a skag i'm alive alex is alive boat's still floating and we had an epic day one in delacroix i love this place this is the place where i learned to love redfish and it's so cool to revisit this very location four years ago three years ago redfish is a fish i don't get the chase after that often so when i do get the opportunity i really cherish it and even though we only got two fish today i'm like cloud nine and i know alex is too like we we worked hard to get those two fish and we're not done yet i mean you couldn't ask for for a better evening a little less wind maybe but other than that it's pretty right on i love it [Music] [Music] we're good start in the morning off a little little hot sauce to this going crystal one of my favorites when i come down here welcome back it's day number two this is uh this is huge this is a big day because we finally got a chance to explore to fish some some new areas here in delacroix but now we are moving spots we're actually going to be launching hopedale this morning to talk to my buddy ty hibbs and he seemed more optimistic about hopedale it's cleaner water it's deeper water and should have some bigger fish the other factor we have to deal with today is split opener season for duck we're going to be dodging uh 12 gauge and bud boats today but very least we've got redfish on the mine gonna grab some breakfast here at last stop classical place here in uh louisiana and just fuel up for yet another epic day of redfishing all right bag acquired it's time to head out to help deal go find these fish we just dropped the boat in hopedale as we are putting in a lot of these duck boats are taking out it's so funny to see the contracts between two different types of uh sportsmen one thing it's so funny driving down here that i've noticed even in de la croix there's nothing that protects these boats these docks these homes and these businesses but the fishing remains resilient oyster fishermen crab boat shrimp boats these guys are all still out there every single day bright and breezy cranking and making a living and i think that's one of the coolest thing about louisiana is the people here they uh they just can't be uh can't be swayed let's stop getting sentimental let's put this boat on plane and see if we can crank some fish let's get after [Music] [Applause] do [Music] [Music] [Music] you're on seriously probably just about to leave oh i think i see it it's big this wind is it's so weird oh yeah it's a red it's a big rod or could it might be a drum actually i think it might be a big black drum that's a pretty big fish this is going to be super weird though i got a uh yeah just take your time oh it's big dude it's really big just take your time yep i'm just playing big solid solid red all good take your time with them okay keep that line tight congrats dude that's so sick yeah that's my tv that's gotta be what the hell is going on that's incredible dude that's that's my biggest redfish i've ever caught and i've been doing this for almost my entire lifetime freaking stud nicely done dude that's incredible [Music] oh there's one tailing right there [Music] there's one tailing right there mean you'll find hungry fish today was a perfect example as to why this fishery can be rewarding and humbling all in one to be quite frank i've always taken a bad day of fishing personally and today i was beaten up over the fact that i couldn't crack the code i couldn't find the spots and i couldn't solve the redfish riddle although deflated defeated we remained determined and set out on day three for the redfish hunt [Music] [Music] that's so cool hey come over here if you keep the engine on the top they probably hear my my beeper my sonar i've never seen in the shower that's pretty wicked look at him go find your own food they're going hard over there oh followed it all the way in two of them i thought i was getting better do you have one you're on the spot where there should be redfish i'm getting bit by that's probably you got bit by two there he is oh that was a big one i shot a nice one that was something big [ __ ] i just had something big oh no another sheep's head i actually hooked him though another sheep said what the [ __ ] is going on i am so confused at the moment oh my god look at that big boy right there big redfish big redfish big redfish it's so frustrating so frustrating you sailing where yeah up shallow nose towards the bank okay still there i'm gonna switch lures real quick yup and there's one little thing creep up on them moving or sitting uh towards the main water or tour out towards the towards the bank and closer oh i think i see him right behind him yeah i see him i see him oh he's following it wow that's a good one that's so sick oh that was so sick bro that was so sweet on the drone that was cool man that was so cool that was so sick bro we needed that we needed that really badly we needed that so badly that was so rad switched to a trip i ate it but it's epic that is so cool bro on the saucy swimmer too that is so dirty dude i was following this fish oh my god it's not a bastard yeah yeah he's got two dots not a bad one either there we have it three long grueling hours of searching for redfish and try not to spook them and we finally connected courtesy of alex's drone skills it's all it took was two guys a boat a saucy swimmer and a drone to make this little drum ski happen oh nice not bad not bad whatsoever there we go look at that that's a nice starting fish can't lie it's been i can't lie it's been an absolute grind out here it's not been the easiest the weather's not been on our side and figuring out a new fishery is always a challenging endeavor nice blue hue on that tail wow freaking gorgeous fish one last hold now send it back nice little drum thank you this is the energy and the vibes we need in this boat i love you so much thank you for playing i love how they sport their dorsal see peace first fish in two days it's been a grueling louisiana sun but that was worth it that was a lot of hype man regardless of the size that was just an epic moment [Music] basically six hours into the third day of fishing and we have one fish it's weird i don't know i mean every time i've come to louisiana i've had pretty high expectations and uh things have panned out i think that might have been my problem with this trip is i said to set the bar up here one day well says every day we've improved and as an angler that's a good thing you never want to fall down that slippery slope of you know not figuring things out i've learned something new pretty much every time we splash this boat um on the fact that we can't catch redfish the obvious but we have seen more big fish today than we have ever we've had very light winds notice how you don't hear the annoying wind noise in the mic it's beautiful that's what you want we really haven't been able to get any good shots at big fish it might have been one opportunity i had today but by the time i saw the fish we were you know staring at each other i die throwing everything fishing a lot of water we've ran probably over 40 something miles today it's it's very deflating like to just be out here and know that you're on top of fish and know that fish are watching your swim bait go past without a care in the world but we still have um we still daily and we're going to persevere with that keep fishing every stop mentality and the very least we're in paradise we're in louisiana marsh can't complain about that [Music] [Music] day number three fishing is getting worse or the weather's getting better i think tomorrow we're really going to have to come up with a solid game plan because i don't know maybe just wipe the slate clean do something completely different we've been fishing a lot of the similar stuff even though we are traveling a lot and going into areas we haven't been to before just doesn't seem to be working i think tomorrow we might call in the heavy artillery and ahead of my buddy ty who guides down here [Music] made it it's final day final moment let's do this [Music] [Music] oh my god that was a huge nice man ty being a huge redfish advocate he uh actually stuck a tag in there that was pulled out of nowhere man that's pretty cool yeah that's top top she's past she's probably close to 40. yeah probably right at it that is a good first fish to have for the day 40 inches uh tagged and soon released redfish dude that was epic what a cool moment and everything oh yeah a few more being happy like that yeah and it'll be a awesome day [Music] tail right there i saw the ripple i'm getting closer to your drum [Music] okay pull that sticker they buy that [Music] thank you you said strip nice one oh my god on casting gear i've got very few got few of these guys on casting like he's spinning but oh my god dude they pull so hard when they're this big it's like no joke this feels incredible four days looking for a fish like this we don't landed yet so i'm not gonna count my chickens yet but this is this is at least just an incredible fight on a seven foot two piece googan rod like for bass just suck that jig down there we go dude that is it that is so [ __ ] fish we've been after whew there we freaking go baby that right there is a plus size red fish two balls in the boat wow this is just such a drastic change from when we were fishing just yesterday and the day before that the day before that we finally have good weather ty spotted that fish out i was looking at the crab chap where there's a few other ones and this guy came out of freaking nowhere clobbered a great iron jake it's so funny throwing bass gear for these giant redfish it is so freaking weird three foot three foot redfish landed tagged and now released that is ladies and gentlemen that is my biggest redfish ever see you later gertha dude put her there oh my god you guys have no idea how good that feels it's like a weight has been released off my shoulders that is incredible 36 inch redfish that's my biggest one ever to do it in a literal flat where it's 18 inches of water pitching a jig this is like one of the only places in the world where you can do this this is why louisiana is so unique oh i'm in so much pain my ribs are killing me if i'm on baitcasters though oh man it just feels like i'm back home in texas you know like that's all it is only difference is instead of like a six pound bass that's good you actually the drag actually goes with braid which now the whole point of braid in the casserole is you don't have to have drag but in this case it's a little different there we have it we've got two very nice pull red fish in the boat we're honestly kind of stumbled upon this little area on accident where we were just about to hoot on out of here and go to some different stuff right yeah and i got on my main motor the merc and i spooked up a bunch of fish so we decided to stay a little bit left this let this wind drift us and now we're just creeping along this flat which is just you know average 18 inches or something like that and there's big fish here like just big fish few sheepshead but mostly like 35 inch plus redfish and they're they're tailing they're feeding and they're happy alex has got to join up right now he thinks that he might have seen a few fish we're slowly creeping that way let's see if we can get third biggie this has already been just an insane turn of events given the fact that i mean you guys know these past days have just been rough all real close you still on them yeah i think i see dark down deep yeah dude holy sh dude holy sh that was [ __ ] incredible oh my god dude was just one or two i just saw that oh my god my pants right now yeah that was awesome oh my god oh my god drone assist wow [Music] oh my god that one's definitely longer holy sh [Music] oh my god uh another personal best for me two in a row that is what louisiana's all about i could barely hold this puppy he's so freaking round that's three bull reds in the boat it's a pretty good day holy sh wow stud indeed i used for stripers that same tool thanks awesome yeah that's great i've actually i actually heard about this tool from a striper wow dude wow incredible i've never caught redfish this big before and we're doing it in like the coolest way like the coolest freaking way look at the head on that puppy yeah oh my god man it's hard to beat that you know it is so hard to beat this oh my god you're so big oh okay hey we're on the redfish's terms today dude another one three bull reds dude so cool um it's so funny so we just so we've not only caught these fish but we're tagging them to ty and all the people he works with you guys are so with the conservation you can keep redfish but it's like why would you do that when it drives so much sport fishing to louisiana man i mean uh you know especially those big ones like i don't know you eat the little ones they taste good yeah a big fish like that you may as well eat a goodyear tire man i mean deserves to live too like after a fight like that how could you even fathom putting that in the cooler fish is probably like you know he could be 10 years old or even older let him go spawn let him make some more and you're saying what that's 1600 now that you've tagged or something like that far over that that's incredible yeah you know couple i try i try to tag around like a thousand each year that's insane for a couple years now yeah so i didn't realize this attack he just came out with the tag so that's pretty cool so we're i guess today not only fishing film a video for you guys and share with you guys what this fishery can be like but we're doing the purpose today my uh ribs and arms are tired these fish are beating me and i love absolutely every bit of it oh look at the tail oh my god big tail right there holy that's a giant left bring it right here oh yeah get behind me yeah he did oh my god that's so sick that's so sick bro i don't know man i don't think so it feels a little bit bigger jesus christ i felt like that fish was too close to be that person i don't know yeah he moved he was moving because he was pretty far to our right at first oh my god that was awesome that's so dirty man that is so dirty he's not ready yet no no he's not ready all right wow bertha you're sick you're sick it's just a beaut oh my gosh you guys everyone that's watching this video right now i pray and hope that you one day are able to experience the power of these fish on seven foot bass rods just in general too even on big gear these guys would whoop your ass that's fun oh my god wow out here flipping and pitching gridiron jigs same stuff i'd be using if i was fishing texas right now for largies and these guys are loving it they look so cool when they're just all flared out with their pecs like oh man yeah pretty fish wow another long one oh my god dude four balls i've been freaking off i am in true ah this has been most ridiculous fishing day just fishing day period i've had in forever look at the spots on him yeah that's weird we've had such a hard time not necessarily finding these fish but just figuring out how to approach them getting them to commit we finally made it happen this is so much fun chasing after these big fish on a flat he's actually peeing right now he's peeing on my boot thank you mr redfish there's nothing like some redfish piss on the boat here's a quick measurement and throwback again snag the pick throw it back see all that is all that mud on his stomach too they're just sitting in the bottom what amazes me is you fight them that long you like horse them in with 60 pound braid you get them you hold them up you take videos and then as soon as that thing feels water he's gone some of the most ambitious fish ever i've said this a lot my videos to my fair fish on earth strike bass and louisiana redfish another one let's go keep it going baby in mere moments our trip has taken a 180. we have found tailing giants in order to keep this energy flowing we decided to pack up shop and head even closer towards the gulf to see if we could find some hungry fish this doesn't feel like we're in louisiana anymore this is different no redfish or drum spread on the right on the right right there right here heading out still are you kidding me oh jesus it's a nice sheep's head though i'm like why are you guys getting stoked i'm like i think i have him that was we were spotting the this redfish on the drone and uh i threw over to where i thought the redfish is at and then this ginormous sheepside which is holy crap another really awesome fish to catch movies i do yeah it's a good one dude we'll see we've seen these guys all trip we've never really actually successfully been able to catch one hey yeah it is a tank i threw a little cracking craw junior at him and he smoked it thanks man wow that's a dude that's probably one of my bigger ones i've caught dude i mean the state record on flies only like nine pounds really another louisiana staple these guys are so much fun to catch the last time i was here we were in venice catching them about this size a little bit smaller but this guy ate an artificial actually a junior kraken crawl which is just so dirty but uh the target was redfish but not a bad consolation whatsoever we're gonna get them unhooked and then throw them back that's one of the reasons why these guys are super unique is their teeth they've got human molars human teeth yeah use it for crushing up what shells oysters crabs barnacles little bitty crabs they'll be oysters hey buddy thank you for eating the crackers i will catch you later see you that was pretty cool oh yeah [Music] [Music] that's a good one wow last minute redfish oh my god that's a big one let's go i we saw this tail from like being way far away got up on him through the gridiron jig with rattling chunk a rattling chunk missed him once came back and he crushed it that was cool just dorky man wow just power wow i'm more tired out than those other ones too not even sure if we should come back here we're like you know what let's do it wow you're big that's another that's another 40 inch redfish 100 similar to this past year louisiana trip was nothing short of a struggle full of moments with serious frustration and doubt i can honestly say this has been one of the more challenging adventures alex and i have ever attempted but with every low point or missed hook set there is always opportunity to bounce back we could have easily packed up camp and headed north after three grueling days of fishing but instead we made the decision to fish hard and persevere what was important for me during this trip was feeling what it's like to get back up after being knocked down three days straight the fish were evasive the wind was miserable but if in the end we prevailed that's all that mattered to me they call it a chase for a reason it's what makes all forms of fishing beautiful what tied this trip together was getting to spend moments with good people in a one-of-a-kind fishery chasing bull reds and finishing on such a strong note for me if it's struggling with life in general or just getting finicky redfish to bite there's always one motto that keeps me going and i challenge all of you to live out this motto going into 2021 keep striving for greatness keep chasing that goal or that big fish and most importantly keep fishing never stop
