Hello everyone, I am Yuna. I would like to introduce some sightseeing spots in Japan that I do not recommend. There are many popular tourist attractions in Japan. However, there are some sightseeing spots that you go to because they are famous, but when you actually go there, you may be a little disappointed. Some of them have even been awarded the title of "Japan's Three Most Disappointing Places," which is a title that does not make me very happy. In this article, I would like to introduce such "disappointing sightseeing spots" in Japan. Disappointing sightseeing spots in Tokyo The first is the Clock Tower in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It is famous as an architectural landmark of Sapporo, and is often featured in travel magazines and brochures of travel agencies, superimposed on nature and scenery. Moreover, it is the oldest clock tower in existence, which makes it very valuable. So why is it a disappointing spot? In fact, this clock tower is located in the center of Sapporo, so it is surrounded by tall buildings in the surrounding area, making it look quite small. The image of Hokkaido is of "great nature and spacious land," but it does not fit this image and looks very cramped between the valleys of the buildings. Many people say it is a pity, because the clock tower itself has a nice atmosphere. When I actually visited there, I also found that the building made in the Meiji Era amidst modern buildings looked a bit out of place. However, Sapporo itself is a very popular tourist destination that attracts many people, both Japanese and foreigners, with its beautiful cityscape and gourmet food in harmony with the city and nature. I especially recommend the illumination of Odori Park. It is actually located near the clock tower and is held every winter season. there is a little snow on the ground, the lights are reflected by the snow, making it even more magical. I have introduced the Clock Tower as a disappointing spot, but since it is located in the center of Sapporo, I think it is a great place to stop by during your main sightseeing tour of Sapporo. The second one is "Holland Slope" in Nagasaki Prefecture. Nagasaki used to be the only port for overseas trade, and in those days, people from overseas were called "Holland-san," which led to the name "Holland Slope" for this slope, which many foreigners pass by. So why is this place also a disappointing spot? Although Holland Slope is called a sightseeing spot, it is not particularly well maintained as a tourist spot because it is also used as a road for daily life. Therefore, there are no souvenir shops or attractions that one would expect as a sightseeing spot, and since the area is lined with ordinary houses, it does not give the impression that one has come here for sightseeing. Many people think of fashionable spots like the Western-style buildings in Yokohama and Kobe, but in Nagasaki, it is really just a hill. That is why they call it a disappointing spot. However, Nagasaki is famous for its exotic, multinational history and culture. Among the things you should definitely check out are Nagasaki's World Heritage sites. There is Gunkanjima, a remote island of ruins with a peculiar history, Glover Park, where the oldest wooden Western-style building in Japan, the "Old Glover House," is located, All of them are well known as filming locations for movies and TV dramas both in Japan and abroad. Shinchi Chinatown, one of the three largest Chinatowns in Japan, is also a very popular tourist spot. If you are planning to visit Nagasaki, be sure to stop by. The third sightseeing spot is "Harimaya Bridge" in Kochi Prefecture. This is a historical structure said to have been built in the Edo period (1603-1867) by an official merchant of the Tosa Clan. The reason why the Harimaya Bridge is disappointing is its short length. The bridge is only 20 meters long, and the fact that it is not a river but an artificial waterway under the bridge is a point of disappointment. Another reason is that the location is also in a modern downtown area, which gives it no historical flavor at all. However, Kochi Prefecture itself is really full of attractions such as nature and power spots, and I myself would like to visit there again and again. In particular, the famous "straw-roasted katsuo tataki" is an exquisite gourmet dish that can only be found here, so it is definitely one of the prefectures you should visit. These three places are known as the "three most disappointing places in Japan," as I mentioned at the beginning of this article. From here, I would like to introduce some of the popular tourist spots that I was disappointed when I actually went there, as I selected them based on my own prejudice. First of all, Kyoto Tower. Kyoto Tower is the tallest structure in Kyoto City. It is said that the tower was built as a "structure" rather than a "building" as a desperate measure in Kyoto Prefecture, Perhaps because of this, the tower has a very unique and eye-catching shape. The reason for the disappointment is that the Kyoto Tower is not particularly tall for a tower, so there is no particularly spectacular view from the observation deck. Another reason for disappointment is that the exterior of the tower, with its color and shape reminiscent of a lighthouse, does not match the elegant cityscape of Kyoto. However, there are plenty of souvenir shops and tourist facilities inside the tower, so it is enjoyable in its own way. And at night, it is beautifully lit up in various colors. There seems to be a paid service for individuals who want to light up the tower in their favorite colors, so some people use it as a surprise for birthdays and other occasions. Next is Miyajima. Miyajima is one of the "Three Views of Japan" and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan. It is famous for the vermilion-lacquered shrine pavilions called "Itsukushima Shrine," which is registered as a World Heritage site. It is a very impressive sightseeing spot, but some people say they are disappointed when they actually go there. Why is that? One reason may be that they visited at the wrong time, at low tide, and could not see the shrine pavilions and torii gates floating on the sea. If you visit at low tide, you can walk to the torii gate, but since it used to be the sea, you will see water stains on the pillars and shells. The gap between the beautiful scenery and the destination may lead to disappointment. The tides vary greatly from day to day, but basically low and high tides come twice a day, approximately every 12 hours. In most cases, both high and low tides occur twice a day, once in the morning (early morning) and once in the evening (late evening). This means that if you plan to stay the whole day, you can enjoy both high and low tides. Personally, I think the sight of the shrine pavilions floating in the sea is wonderful, but being able to walk to the torii gate, which used to be in the sea, is also a precious experience. Miyajima also has many cute wild deer to greet you, fresh oysters and other delicacies to enjoy, so if you are interested, please visit. Next is Tokyo Tower, which many of you may know. It is a comprehensive radio tower located in Minato Ward, Tokyo, and is known as a symbolic tourist attraction in Tokyo. It is a popular tourist spot that attracts many visitors from Japan and abroad. It is also lit up from sunset, creating a romantic atmosphere, making it a popular date spot. So why is Tokyo Tower a disappointing spot? One of the negative points is that the number of skyscrapers around Tokyo Tower is increasing, and there are more and more things blocking the view. And since it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Japan, it gets very crowded. Another disappointing point is that it feels old, perhaps because it is compared to the Tokyo Sky Tree, a new landmark in Tokyo. The Tokyo Sky Tree is often compared here, After all, when you come to Tokyo, which do you recommend visiting, Tokyo Tower or Tokyo Skytree? The answer to this question is "It depends on your preference. Let's compare them a little. First, let's look at the height of the tower and observation deck. Both the height of the tower and the observation deck are about twice as high as those of Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree. The view from the observation floor looks completely different when the height is twice as high as the tower. The Tokyo Tower offers a relatively clear view of the ground, while the Tokyo Sky Tree is like looking at an aerial photograph. If there are a lot of clouds, the observation floor may be lost in the clouds, and you may not be able to see the ground level at all. However, it is sometimes talked about that you can see a sea of clouds from Tokyo Skytree. Next, we will look at the overall quality of the facilities. Comparing the quality of the facilities themselves, Tokyo Sky Tree is by far the more extensive. Tokyo Sky Tree has a commercial facility called "Tokyo Solamachi" that houses more than 300 stores. It contains not only stores selling souvenirs of Tokyo Sky Tree and Tokyo, but also clothing stores, general merchandise stores, and supermarkets, offering a rich and varied lineup. The attraction of Tokyo Sky Tree is that visitors can not only tour the observation deck but also enjoy shopping. Although there are souvenir shops and restaurants in Tokyo Tower, they are nowhere near the scale of Tokyo Sky Tree. Next is the access. Tokyo Tower is slightly easier to access from Tokyo Station. However, Tokyo Sky Tree is also directly connected to Oshiage Station and Tokyo Sky Tree Station, so access is good enough. Tokyo Tower has a Showa-era, nostalgic atmosphere, while Tokyo Sky Tree has a cutting-edge, futuristic atmosphere. When sightseeing in Tokyo, please visit the tower of your choice. How was it? In this article, I have introduced some sightseeing spots in Japan that I do not recommend. Please refer to them when you travel to Japan. That's all for today's video. See you in the next video. Bye bye~.
