you would not want to bet against a Texas man he's considered the world's greatest card chief spending decades refining his skills well Manny variks shows us how his sleight of hand helps overcome a major challenge never take the Dex and shuffle them one in each hand it makes the other players Richard Turner doesn't like to call himself a card cheat what do you call yourself one of the card mechanic a mechanic is somebody who could control the outcome of a card game these days Turner uses his skills mainly to entertain money is not usually on the table you want a queen or a deuce which one let's go with the quaint apron I thought I was picking the Queen no matter how closely I looked I couldn't see how he was cheating but then neither could he what's amazing about this is not just what you can do but it's the fact that you are blind well I just don't see you can't see Turner started losing his sight when he was nine he's been cheating at cards since he was 7 1 Turner still never loses at cards even when someone else's shuffle I didn't ask it over here I just one guy he wanted to cut double with nothing for the pot he cut a 10 I cut what's that card that's ace of hearts he said let's double it again he cut a king I cut what's that card ace of diamonds he's cut from a deck you sat there and shuffled for the past 20 minutes wow you don't get that good without practice for years I practiced 10 to 20 hours a day seven days a week which boils down to about one third of my entire life 24/7 he isn't kidding listen to his wife Kim there are times when he's doing like a one-handed shuffle and it makes a little sound you might be at church and then you just have to do the gentle touch like not now and you're doing it right now you've got cards in your hand and I'm never fooling around cards I'm not I'm always actually practicing move I've one move between fifty and sixty million times can anybody else pull that move off besides you nope the move is called of course the Turner sweep second seven of diamonds watch the seven the dealer wants to 7c I'll hit the other players and only when I'm ready into ideal to seven watch face up see I'm showing you what I'm doing it doing and I'm doing it in super slow motion thing I'm a super natural no Turner is not a sorcerer it only seems that way at one time I actually could feel but he does have extraordinary touch sensitivity it's a touch that developed as he lost his sight most of those moves takes such a delicate touch if you miss one move by the thickness of a single card everything's messed up that ability to detect minut differences in cards caught the attention of the United States playing card company there's nobody else like Richard Turner let's Merrill is director of research and development he's provided us insight into the feel of a playing card that I don't know if I would have ever gotten that from anyone else Turner's contributions earned him a lifetime supply of free cards there's about 6,000 decks of cards in here when you walk around Turner's house you don't have to go far before you spy a deck of cards they're always on his mind just ask his son your name is ace of spades yes well if you'll remember my name which is really helpful aces father is also pretty unforgettable land whether he is answering email or cleaning the pool he refuses to let his blindness limit him Turner is a bit of a gym rat and a six degree black belt but it's always come back to cards you know no matter what hand you're dealt don't let anyone tell you you can't play or that it can't be done one two three turn over - of course it helps if you've got an edge ace of clubs Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds what's under here when the money gets big yes beating the odds for CBS this morning Manuel Bojorquez San Antonio Texas say what you just said no matter what hand you're dealt let no one tell you what you can't be done that's right even looking with both eyes I couldn't see how he did it go mr Turner
