Catfishing for Money - Alabama

he y'all Justin with kayak catfish well it is tournament day in Alabama and when I do these tournaments I like to bring youall with me I show you the good the bad the fish caught the strategy I'll show you everything so this tournament is the first stop of the king cat kayak cat Fishing Tournament Trail it's on Wilson and pck reservoirs of the Tennessee River and it's pretty much open from the top of Wilson to the bottom of pwi any public launch site we are allowed to use tournament runs from 78 p.m. to 300 p.m. and we have to be back in at our check-in location at 400 p.m. which is in Florence so that's the big strategy of it all if you make a long run somewhere you got to make it back by 400 p.m. to the check-in so this tournament is going to score our three longest catfish Blues flatheads channels any combination and we've got a tournament identifier which is somewhere my kayak here I need to find that thing but we score our fish on an approved measuring board with that tournament identifier and a datetime GPS stamp and those are submitted to a live leaderboard which people at home are able to watch but you're seeing this video well after the fact so you done missed out on that but anyway we got a few more minutes here before Lin's in and I'm going to drop some baits down I'm going to start fishing an island today on pck this works out great if not I'm going to make my way down river and work a ledge just dragging baits I come down here pre fishing couple weeks ago caught fish dragging couldn't get them on B to bite anything else come down a few days ago hit an area again same deal caught fish dragging the only thing I can get a bite on so what am I doing out here to start on tournament day I'm anchor fishing by gosh I mean just completely opposite what I should be doing but that's what I'm going to do I've marked some fish here so I'm going to set up on see if I can get a bite and if I do we'll sit here and catch them if not we'll get on the move and drag baits today but we got about 7 7 and 1/2 hours to fish today cuz where I'm fishing at I'm 40 minutes away from checkin so I'm going to have to pack up a little early today a little bit of a gamble but my first my first plan I was going to fish on Wilson we at the pre-tournament check-in last night I'm talking to Ryan borts and guess what he was going to the same launch fishing the same place doing the same thing that was his plan great minds think I like I guess so I called an audible decided to come down here and hit Pi quick today so for better or worse this is what we doing y'all so come with me let's see if we can win us a tournament today all right y'all 7:01 buddy it's time to start first bait going out is a skip Jack head I've got dragging rigs on that we're going to Anchor Fish with right now but I'm going to probably get on the move at some point I just come over here to this island when I launched and I saw some fish you maybe see on my graph how the land sits there some fish kind of own down back here behind me here off that what looks like it's making a little current break so that's where we're going to start at if we get them to bite great if not we're going to go drag some fish today cuz dragging on my pre- fishing days is the only way I could get a dag on bite man I couldn't catch them any other way but I'm seeing this many fish stacked up we got to at least try to throw some baits to them folks right here is what I'm talking about out I've slid back a little bit see if I can spin the transducer around I mean there's some big fish here behind me I I was higher up on here I wasn't getting bit I slid back and I saw them again so about to cast these baits back out and hopefully get some of them to buite I hope their cats don't really I'm not good enough with my electronics to really know but I've seen some of them that have forked Tails which leads me to believe that they could be blue cats CU carp wouldn't have that forked tail so we'll sit here a while and see what happens with them fish fish right there right there we're hooked up skip jackhead throwing this these baits off this drop here behind me where I see all them fish stacked up I have no idea what they are I assume it's cats you make out enough on the live scope to see the forked tail which leads me to believe there's some blues carp have more of a flat tail and I don't know what else would be in here that would maybe be a large fish that have a fork tail so I'm just sitting here even though my pre fishing days I couldn't buy a fish when I anchored we starting out D on tournament day anchor fishing then we at least we got something here and it feels like a pretty decent fish so I'm anchor fishing right now or spot lock but you know what I mean with my dragging rigs that way we can take off and get on the move without me having to retie anything and this is's wound up buddy he's mad boy he's mad that's a that's about a fun Sizer right there to start with I'll take that for fish number one it's nice just to have one to get on the board if nothing else okay come on in here all right y'all we about to get ourselves on the board fish number one with a pretty quality cat here he's left the bait on so what I'm going to do before I put him on the board and get our pictures for the tournament I'm going to cast this bait back out want get it back out there oh oh oh Lord he's mad at me you lay there and act like somebody fish these Alabama catfish they got no manners none whatsoever all right yeah he's still wound up man you sit there and be calm a minute fish I got to cast this bait back out send that back over there I'm not casting them real far cuz I'm kind of set up right in front of these fish they just they R off that drop from the looks of things so folks outting there he's about just shy of 37 in about 36 and 3/4 in boy that right there's as calm as he's been for me I like have never got the pictures of that thing Bo this fish man I tell you what this would not lay still for nothing he is he's wound up he's mad old Nick Sabin for retiring he knows the Alabama football team ain't going to be worth a crap anymore and he's tore up about it I'm happy to be rid of that by gosh got my hand tore up and everything on him but that's fish number one man I'll take it we're on the board here in the first hour of the tournament I don't know if that fish will help me like I said they big catfish down here in Alabama but that's a good start at least we ain't getting skunk today I already got that other bait back out I got three rods got two skip Jack heads and a chunk and I'm kind of just I'll try to show you here on the graph the live scope is pointing that way behind us here and you can see it kind of it drops off real quick here and there's some fish back over in there it's hard to see see on the screen they some fish back over in here that's off that drop it's kind of hard to see with the Liv scope with it with it pointing with the The Contours going down it's hard to kind of see them there but they there and so we got one of them to eat we'll see if we get some of his friends and then uh if we're not getting bit anchoring right here what I may do is go below him and then drag back through them and see if we get bit that way right here's a better look at some of them fish they're kind of just right off the edge of this drop back here hanging out so reason why I'm kind of casting my baits short distances behind me is cuz I'm want them sitting right here kind of letting that current push the scent back in their faces and hopefully they come up there and get them but they're uh in and out of the screen right there but there's a lot of fish that's right there behind me and whether or not they're all cats I don't know but when that when that transducer beam hits them just right you can see a forked tail and I just don't know what other fish out here would be kind of that shape with a fork tail on the screen there cuz you're harp are going to have like a a flat tail not the forked so uh I'm going to put in some more time here like I said I come down here I did two different pre fishing sessions one come down a couple weeks ago for a couple days and then earlier this week for a couple days anchor fishing there right there's the first fish I got anchor fishing uh down here in Alabama man everything I had to be on the move to trigger a bite but um so far so good man we're off to a good start another one another one another one we're hooked up again I'm going to take the camera here and show you right quick look at the screen right there you see them fish right there behind us oh I got to catch up I'm trying I'm trying to film show you this fish is swimming right at me man he's coming right at us look at him go buddy he's headed up River he's going where he wants he says I'm seeing a ton of fish on the screen back there but man they are not you would think it' be oh my gosh and he popped free right there oh man gosh Dogg it man I don't even know how the hell that happened D gam it well let's switch out our bait here like I said I'm seeing a bunch of fish on the screen they're like right off that drop but it's not a lights out bite I mean that's literally the second bite I've gotten here in right at an hour now so I'm going to stay on them though man they're just right there so I'm going to put another bait on I've got a couple options here in my cooler I mean got skip Jack obviously I'm going to put a Shad on here gizzard Chad we'll see what that does I've also got a drum with me today as well so we'll probably work that in at some point but I'm going to take this gizzard Shad here and cut in half skip Jack's obviously my confidence bait but I'm running three rods so we'll mix it up and throw a Shad on here and see what that'll do we can't we can't do much worse with the Shad can we just that just bad luck for that fish to come free like that right here at the D kayak man again I'm just going to make a just a short cast back here and try to put them baits I'm I'm wanting to get them right there kind of on the Edge Where Them fish are kind of staged off so as they as they come up we got the bait right there right there waiting on them and all that scent is getting pushed back with the current all right y'all it is time to mix things up those fish that I've been sitting on they're gone they've moved I didn't I just stopped seeing them and so I reeled up cuz it was time to rebate anyway and move back kind of looking for them and they're gone I have no idea where they went so I went on the other side of this island over here cuz the way the current the current's going this way and the wind is kind of blowing this direction this morning so all this trash and debris and stuff on the water it's getting pushed over here and I thought maybe on the other side of that Island might be a good place to to set up too maybe I'd see some more fish over there but I didn't see anything over there and wherever those whatever those fish were I'm not sure they were all cats being that we only got two bites in an hour and a half but whatever they were they're gone and I have no idea where they're at so what I'm doing right now I've started dragging I'm on the move I'm working this side of the island here where those fish were at I'm gonna make a pass or two up through here and if we don't get bit I'm moving I'm out of here I'm gonna go to the other side of the but we got some geese over here giving it to me buddy they're mad at me that I'm fishing over here where they're at but I'm going to go to the other side of the ledge earlier in the week this is one of the areas I had pre fished I caught a big fish on that ledge and got some more bites so I definitely want to hit it at some point this morning but we we might be going over there right now if I don't find some more fish here oh finally y'all finally we're hooked up right here I'm 49 ft working up a ledge man it's been a long time y'all long time it's almost 11:00 we're almost at the halfway mark of this tournament I spent way too much time on that island this morning and then those fish moved and I spent way too much time looking for them I mean I spent 20 minutes just running around with the Liv scope trying to find them couldn't get on them dragged that area by the island made a couple passes there couldn't get anything so then I moved I made a run down river here and I've been working this ledge and this here's a good fish but I'm dragging going up this ledge into the current and the current's moving out here today they had a bunch of rain down here in Alabama yesterday and they are blowing it out at the dams up there so current's a little over a mile an hour here where I'm at and uh I'm going into it at about 4ish and I'm just dragging two baits I've got a skipjack head and I've got a chunk of drum on my other line that I was just letting out over there cuz I just I just rebaited I got this one set I was letting line on the other one out and this one took off this is a good fish right here he's going to feel bigger because I'm pulling him into the current obviously but it's a good one I was beginning to wonder if it was going to happen for me y'all It's been a just a a grind of not catching fish and our leaderboards live and so you see all these other people just scored fish and worst of all I'm seeing Ryan borts he's winning the tournament right now last I looked anyway and of course he was going to fish today where I had planned on fishing on wills and you we got there and got to talking last night at the check in I was like are you really going there right cuz that's the exact place I was going to go doing the exact same thing it was where I filmed uh my first video down here on my pre fishing session where I come down a couple weeks ago I see this fish back here he's way behind me down there thrashing around the surface now but IID filmed that video and I'd caught several fish and got some decent fish and like productivity wise I was like that was my best best session that I had and so I was like since I hadn't really found out anything else other than the fact that all the fish I had caught had been dragging I was like I'm just going to go back there and uh lo and behold so made a change last night decided I was going to come down here and uh we about to get our second fish on the board here when I get him pulled up all right we about got him up here now took a while with this thing oh he's got the fly look here he didn't eat the head he ate the the dang Stinger fly I got running behind these rigs here he ain't as big as I thought he was folks I'm a little disappointed I thought he was bigger than that I guess I was just fighting the current more than I was the fish come up here fish I'll still score him though my gosh I'm happy to get any bite I do at this Point all right folks that one there about 30 in on the line so one fish closer to my limit oh oh here goes this one here goes this one now I was spot locked sitting here while I was fooling with that one okay maybe I'll just come through some right here again I'm right now I'm sitting 51 ft I was spot locked while I could finish getting that fish up and then boom man another one goes down I tell you what I'm going to do here let's move that bait air still looks like it's hooked good let's just start letting out some line on that one while we reel this one in none of my fish on my score the first one there was decent but I mean somebody today is going to stumble into some big fish fell Adam he had been down here pre-fishing last couple days he caught an 80 pounder he's been on some good fish so somebody's going to put up a good score today I hope it's me I hope I stumble into them but it has been slow for me the weather has changed out here said we had that front yesterday dropped all that rain and this morning when first tournament first started the wind was kicking a little bit it's died down the sun's come out some of these clouds are starting to clear out and I ain't complaining about the wind dying down either it was cold this morning this fish here I think's going to be smaller than the last one but you know what I'm going to do I'm going to put him on the board and score him because CU that will complete my limit right here yeah buddy this one I had on a piece of drum there i' caught one drum and brought down with me so I just took a basically a fet of him and that's what he eat there tell what I'm going to do I'm going to rehook this drum cuz like I said I was just I had just switched out my baits and was letting line out on that one while the other one had hit so we'll just let some line out on it too while we take pictures of this one I'll go ahead and slip that bail over and uh we'll get him scored and then um I may Circle back down and come through this area again y'all that one there just 28 and 1/4 in but he's going to finish out my limit let's get him going take our identifier here old kayak Mike he's our tournament director he gave me a tournament identifier with his dag on picture on there ain't that something shout out to kayak Mike by gosh but uh already got these lines back out and I'm just sitting here spot locked right now while I was fooling with that and uh I think probably I'll sit here a minute see if them fish I got some friends and then we'll Circle back down and come through that little stretch again and then just continue on the move I'm just working this main Channel ledge here you kind of see them there's a flat up here to the left like 20 ft deep it drops off there's a brake line right here that I'm on and then there's a gradual decline down to where it kind of bottoms out there so I'm kind of on that that first brake line here where it comes off uh right now 51 ft and just been it's been pulling these baits man and like I said it's been uh boy it's been a grind buddy it's let me get the phone here and I'll show you the the scoreboard let's see where we're at here on the scoreboards 1051 so almost at the at the halfway mark let's update this thing I ain't scored my two fish there I just caught yet but there's Ryan in the lead let's see he just got a 41 iner there a little while ago looks like so 1102 in I don't know where I'm going to be when I add everything up probably around 100 in but uh big fish right now is Ryan too my big fish is third but they like I said these going to be some big fish caught today so anyway y'all just out here grinding man pre- fishing days was tough but all the fish I got was doing what I'm doing right now dragging working Ledges that was my Best Buy I went to that Island first thing I got on the water early we're allowed to launch even though our tournament 7: to 3 we can launch as early as we want we just can't have lines in and so since IID kind of made a decision last minute you know last night to come here I thought let me go check out that Island because it ramped up the current flow from all that rain yesterday and I thought there might be something over there around that Island uh that current break that I'd seen before and sure enough man it was stacked with fit now I don't know what they were we got that one blue we had that other bite it may have been something else but from what I could see on the graph it looked like some of them had Fork Tails so I don't think it would have been carp that I was seeing uh but you know I don't know either way I fished there way too long wasn't getting bit they moved I couldn't find them I wasted a lot of time trying to find them and so now I'm over here on this ledge and we're going to work this ledge the rest the remainder of the time I'm just going to go up through here and hopefully what I'm hoping is when when about 215 230 rolls around I'm right in front of the launch that I put in at that's what I'm hoping to end up that way I can maximize my time on the water and still give myself a chance to get back to the checkin before before I get dced cuz we don't make it back by 4:00 to Florence there at to check in we get dced and I'm 40 minutes away so factor in maybe you hit a little traffic maybe somebody stops B the at the boat ramp over here he wants to chat a minute you know I got to allow time for that but uh anyway enough of this y'all got you update we got the scoreboard there I'm going to get these fish scored actually I'm going to go back down here Circle up and get on the move and then I'll submit those fish to the leaderboard and then uh yeah y'all hopefully we can find some upgrades up through here so I just got my fish submitted that gives me 95 Ines currently in third place 3/4 of an inch outside of second place so we definitely need to get some upgrades out here but at least we got our limit there's this one oh boy look at him strip some line there we go man another fish it's only been I don't know 15 20 minutes maybe since I got them other two I'm back on the move I circled back down went through that area again where I hooked the other two didn't didn't get anything but just continuing on this one here ate to skip Jack head my rod keeps slipping off my life jacket I think probably what I'm going to do in a few minutes is switch out that piece of drum I really we got a limit I need to kind of Swing for the fences here and these head baits are big fish baits so I need to kind of just go for it and just put on some put on two head baits may stick on that drum head possibly it's kind of that drum's big so we'll see I may put that on if not I'll get my biggest skip Jack out the bag and I need to switch out this is well the other fish that I had this Rod a minute ago was on the fly but still I want to keep these baits fresh today so we get this one in I'll probably switch out this bait put on a new one anyway this fish nailed it man he was stripping some line now I'm not so certain that he's going to be an upgrade which just kind of it's that current man when you drag it into the current it makes everything just feel bigger so it's kind of hard to judge back home I just don't I don't fish Cur very much so I'm not used to being able to tell what's what in the in the flow but you come down here you go fish somewhere new you just got to play the hand your delt and this what we're doing out here today by gosh and we getting bit after a very very slow first 3 and 1/2 4 hours on the water here we finally finally getting it going here maybe okay this is a blue see if I can we'll throw him on the board here I don't know if he's going to I don't know if he's going to help us or not any any inch half inch whatever we can get upgrade would be appreciated but I don't know if he's going to do it for us or not I'm going to get him landed here and before we throw him on our board we're going to cut another bait up and get it going out before we fool with the pictures and whatnot come in here fish I think he might be an upgrade over that smallest fish possibly we'll see here in a second he's way I want to get another bait on you sit there and be good fish you just think about how good you had it as an Alabama football fan all them years and you just relish the old days cuz it's over Tennessee is the team now by gosh now that sabin's gone it's our time well that one there ended up being 31 and 3/4 so he was an upgrade over two of our fish actually and he gone all right folks well we already got our other bait out there so uh nice little bit of an upgrade I'll certainly take it every little bit helps you get up in these the end of the day here on the scoreboard man you'll be surprised how close the scores are especially when you're only scoring three fish and so I tell you man every quter inch half inch it's a big help so I'll take it but we got that bait out pulling I'm going to reel in that piece of drum over here and switch it out for another bait and we just going to keep doing what we're doing like I said it was a slow morning slow start but us three fish here pretty quickly and none of them are monsters but I take it man like I said every inch helps and so if we can just do what we're doing and maybe luck into a a golly Whopper at some point we liable to be in good shape at the end of the day turn the camera on I don't know if that's a fish or if that's a I think that's a fish I thought I was coming across a snag of some kind but that's a fish all right this is a skipjack head over here I ended up putting two skipjack heads I got that big drum but it's just such a dang big bait and you know how them drum heads are the the the mouth is up here and then it gets wide it's like a I don't know it's like a dang triangle basically is what it looks like I'm afraid to put it down there fish hits it ain't going to get the hook right so I'm just running another skip Jack head two skip Jack heads here I was running three rods earlier when I was anchor fishing could spread things out a little more I put that third Rod up when I got to Dragon I basically just brought it with me today because I wanted a backup Rod ready to go in case I had to break off I could drop another rig down real quick while I retied the other one I think most the fellas in this tournament they're all running 6 eight rods planer boards and all that nonsense every single one of them running planer boards better beat me too or they're never going to hear the end of it but I finished better than them with two rods well they covering the whole dang River I think this might be a pretty good fish right here y'all this one right here just might be an upgrade for us first I really thought it was a light bite I thought I was dragging through something kind of rough and then it just made itself known that it was a fish I know one thing though it's finally warmed up enough I'm going to shed some layers and we get him in and get him measured and all that I tell you what folks it was cold out here this morning especially with that wind blowing like it was the wind now has shifted it was blowing kind of across the channel this morning now it's blowing up River it ain't blowing hard though and I actually think it's supposed to slack off a little more as the afternoon goes on oh man you know what this fish has done back there there's a log floating down river or stick or something I think he's ran me oh okay he come out of it here I'm going to just this is a good fish I'm going to spot lock here a second so I can get him in a little easier he had ran me off a dang limb floating over there I was pulling him and the limb this this a good one right here I think this might be the biggest one of the morning so far this is a definite upgrade if we can get him in I caught a good one earlier in the week I'd come down for 2 days just kind of pre fish and learned my way around a little bit here on pck and uh on this ledge here I caught really good one I knew there's some fish in this area I should have probably just been on this ledge the whole time not even fooled with that Island over there this morning I spent way too much time I I'm still kicking myself for that I mean we got that one fish that's currently our biggest fish on the on the board but I spent too much time over there I should have been over here working this ledge y'all wave a bass boat as he goes by he's going to slow down and yeah that's a good one right there man that's a good one right there folks that's a good one buddy I want to get this thing landed right here folks yes sir right here is a good fish on a skipjack head this is easily my biggest one of the day let's give ourselves a little bit of slack here nice y'all this is this is probably a 40 plus inch fish right here this is going to be a big upgrade on my score okay uh-uh don't be doing that twisting now fish don't be doing it don't be doing it got him he's in buddy he's in and that's all that's our Whopper right there man that's what we needed folks that's what we needed here's what I'm going to do this fish is still full of energy I brought him in too quick I'm going to get this hook out of him we're going to put another bait on I'm send it out before we measure this thing cuz I want to get another bait down there we' clearly we've come through some more fish and while we're sitting here spot locked that bait can be set down there on bottom all right folks that one there 41 and2 in man that thing is a tank okay let's hold him up there he is man got us a nice one man 41 1/2 in huge upgrade on my score you know what the best thing about catching big fish is when you go to lay them on your measuring board to score them they'll lay there just as calm as can be it's them little ones that want to thrash around and act a fool you get one like this they'll lay there and just be calm as can be all right fish now if we can just turn you into a Tennessee Vs fan we'll be set he said never this is probably an Auburn fan anyway right here let's get a release shot on that Beast there he goes man he gone yes buddy fist bump worthy for sure on that one well don't look now folks but your boy making a run at it here we're 1 minute away from noon and that fish moved me all the way up to Second Place a/ inch behind Ryan and you scroll down big fish that put me in the the big fish lead for the time being so uh yeah folks man so that fish right there huge for me man huge for I don't know if I mentioned the payouts in this tournament cuz honestly I don't know that I know the payouts I know I had heard somebody say last night if you got first place some big fish it was going to be somewhere around $2,400 so I'll update that at the end of the video when I figure out what the the final payouts and everything are we had 13 people signed up and fishing for this thing and they had a lot of sponsor money and stuff thrown in too so uh nice payday regardless today today for whoever wins I think they're paying first second and third in this but uh still too early in the day can't catch your can't catch your eggs before the chicken L them or eggs before they hatch or they some saying like that you know who the hell knows we're in Alabama they say all kinds of stuff down here but anyway I'm back on the Move y'all going to keep working this ledge and I'm feeling much better man the first three and 1 half hours my confidence was waning but here this last hour business was picked up there we go again another one on another one on oh boy goodness all right y'all let me just let me just spot lock here a second while we find this one I'm still sticking with the the two heads two rods a head on each one it's paying off we running we're running heads the rest of the time out here I can see where I launched at from here so I'm going to end up today I'm hoping to be able to fish till about 2:30 and be able to make it back in plenty of time so it's only going to knock me about 30 minutes out of fishing time today but starting where I did on this ledge and working up help overcome some of the inefficiencies from my my start this morning I feel like we've rebounded well I I guess right here is going to be a pretty good one too hopefully this will be an upgrade I can't remember what is my smallest fish on my score right now 31 and 3/4 I think 31 and A2 something like that last I looked there at the leaderboard I was still in second place a/ inch behind Ryan so we got some we definitely need some upgrades plus I mean you got to figure if the bites picked up for me here in the last couple hours it's probably picked up for everybody else too and so there's going to be some more fish submitted throughout the rest of the time plus you never know somebody just because the leaderboards live don't necessarily mean everybody's submitting their fish right away people have until 4:00 at uh at the check-in to get everything submitted so you never know if somebody's sitting on fish ultimately it don't matter what other people are doing all I can do is just focus on the on the on the fishing that I'm doing we're in a tournament we're all competing against each other but really you're just competing against the fish cuz if you can't catch them it don't matter what the other people are doing this in here's going to be a good one I think still ain't got a look at him yet I'm getting closer to him now I'm hoping that other one will go down over there too I just I spot locked that way we ain't pulling into these pulling into the current or pulling the fish another half mile hours we're trying to re him in plus if he had a friend or two back there with him that other bait were running should be right there on them come over here fish I think this in here is probably going to be short of what we need to upgrade we'll throw him on the board and find out I think he's going to be I think he's going to be well I don't know now look at him like that we'll see here we put him on the board Lord fish you got a hook everywhere in you no folks that one actually is a bit of an upgrade he's almost 34 in there so nice we'll take that here's that one y'all oh got my tournament identifier on his tail there he about went away with a souvenir didn't he another fun sizer little bit of an upgrade on the score I'll take it hopefully we can hopefully we can upgrade again it'd be nice to get a another one over 40 in for sure but beggar can't be choosers man I'm happy to get it while I got this bait up here I'm going to go ahead and switch it out put on a new one and then we're going to come off spot lock and keep working right on the edge of this ledge all the way up through here so I got that fish submitted there and as of 12:42 I'm in the lead oh oh I actually tied Aubrey boyon there just posted a fish too look like I was about to boast how I'm a quarter inch ahead of Ryan in first place but Aubrey's passed him too by a quarter of an inch there so it looks like let's see Au just got a 40 and A4 inch fish so technically I've got the tie breaker right now cuz if you're if you're tied it goes to your biggest fish so as of right now I am in the lead as of 12:43 but still plenty of time left the bites obviously getting better as the afternoon is going on so who knows what could happen I'm at the top right now I could be down fifth six further down by the time the end of the day goes That's Just Fishing man that's how it goes but hey I've done all I can do to this point so man I'm right where I want to be at 12:43 fish oh boy y'all this is no he's come off is he let me just crank down I think he might have come off I've had a little bit of a rough spell y'all I've had I've went across something twice down there yeah this F come off there's something down there man and it's nasty I've got hung in it twice I got one rod hung in the first time and then both rod hung in second time let me fix this bait back here he's messed it up but he's come off but yeah whatever's down there I guess there was at least one fish on it but boy it's it's a it's a snag that's for sure I'm going to send that back out we still got that other one pulling there but uh yeah went through another little dry spell here y'all just plugging along though trying to grind it out would love to get me that one really big fish that would that would just make my day but last I looked at the leaderboard I was still tied for first but technically in the lead with the the big fish tiebreaker so uh it's got to keep grinding man got to keep going there's this one there's this one as we're still letting that line on the other one whatever that is down there there some fish around it by gosh it got both to my dang lines but my gosh these fish on it a spot walk right here while we deal with this one too going to need him to be a pretty good fish here to upgrade it all we find out when we get him up here he don't feel very good right now but that last one that was an upgrade fooled me too even after looking at him he fooled me been so long since I've measured fish I've forgot what size looks like what it's turned into a real nice day though the wind has calmed down the sun's out it's warm and you all know me I'm a fair weather fisherman I'm a Sunny and 75 kind of guy I know these big fish caught and foul well but I'd rather just not catch them if I got to sit out and freezing cold or pouring rain this fish here I'm confident this in here ain't going to be a upgrade if y'all want just go ahead and fast forward feel free to cuz this in here ain't going to ain't going to measure up for us I just know he ain't oh this fish he's flung my fly up my rig here he's got that head bait just choked I think you the smallest one of the day fish you're holding up progress here I want that head back too there we go y I'll take that back please and thank you he says he ain't even going to let me hold him up if that's how I'm going to be if I'm going to short him on camera time and all not give him a free meal boy he's got that line all messed up right there them little fish are the worst as far as getting you Tangled Up and acting Fool on the measuring board y'all need to tell them little fish leave us alone that's a nice take down nice take down right there okay spot lock right here a second man you just never know folks you never know when that Rod is going to go down next we have to get him up here and see it's like I say it's going to take a a good fish to upgrade our score but I sure would like an upgrade last I looked I was still in the lead but there's a quter of an inch between me Aubry and Ryan top three right now separated literally by A4 of an inch I mean every any upgrade we can get matters regardless of how it shakes out though I'm I'm happy with how the day has went I was really beating myself up first thing with just my piss poor time management but when I mov down on the other side of the channel here on this ledge I I've got the distance perfect where I'm going to end up right here by the car when it's time for me to go so that's going to allow me to fish as long as I can out here I'm still going to leave early to make sure I make it back to check in but I'm going to be able to maximize my time by working it out how I have see if we can get him up here we're ought to be getting close on this and he's been he ought to be full energy still cuz he's kind of just been swimming with me here I'm real any in I still don't have a a real good gauge on how big he is although I don't think he's he ain't no monster whether or not he's any kind of upgrade well he might be by gosh look at that we'll throw him on the board he might be an upgrade I know he's still full of energy he didn't hardly fight at all he was just kind of swimming with me as I was reeling him in Lord this fish I know why he's acting so calm my leader has lassoed around his face and usually when you lasso a fish they're real calm and then they get un lassoed and they do that right there oh oh oh whoa calm it down calm it down let's get our let's get our head bait fixed out here and see if we can't get it going back down in the water before we put him on the board I want to just try to work as efficiently as I can and he has got that dang he's got the mouth of that thing all tore up let's see if we can go out that nostril maybe okay there goes that for fish he's done knock my block off for my measuring board I had to Jimmy rigged me these blocks so I can make my board level it's on this side my measuring board used to lay perfectly across my Hobie deck here but when I added that crossbar right there to melt my graph up front I don't have enough space to lay that board across these rails so I've had to raise it to give myself extra room and that dang fish right there he don't give a crap crap about that does he he's like Justin whatever you Jimmy rig I'm going to just wreck it and this one folks I'm going to check my score just to make sure he ain't going to be an upgrade but that in there is about 33 and 3/4 choking right there fish you done got me choked up let me set you back down a second I'm just going to double check my score just to make sure I'm pretty sure we need one over 34 I can't remember what that other one was there let's see 34 in was the smallest one on my score so he's not going to help us but let's get him out of here nice fish he's a pory thing control I'm moving like0 4.5 through here we'll finish letting out our line there on our head bait but what time was it there 136 so I've got probably right at I'm coming up on here where I launched at so I got maybe right at an hour left that I can fish here looked like I was still in the lead there when I checked the scoreboard so going into the going into the final time here we go man perfect on Q buddy look at him pulling line oh man let's just spot lock again and set here a second why don't we this one feels better right here folks this one right here feels better he was stripping some line just got back on the move and he took off well I wouldn't give to have about a 50 iner if I could get a 50 incher I'd feel a lot better about leaving early that's my main reason that I was planning on fishing Wilson to begin with because I knew the launch I was going to use was like 20 minutes away from our checkin so I could fish right up until quitting time pack up not have to worry about about hitting traffic or anything and or getting tied up at the launch and making it back I mean how bad would it be if you had a tournament won or was going to cash and then you got dced because you didn't make it back to checkin on time I mean that would be terrible if I had me a if I had me a big a really big fish I'd feel better about leaving early boy this one is way back there man he's up on the surface but he's way back there he fall hard and then come straight up on us 50 ft deep here where I'm at still I'm just still I'm working the Contours y'all know me I'm I'm a buck Perry guy I'm all about them Contours that's big part of why I don't like the planer boards you know well one it's not fun to fish planer boards but the other reason is I like to focus on the areas where active fish are either going to be moving through or active fish are going to be feeding and when you're just putting out planer boards for the sake of putting out planer boards and spreading your baits out real wide you can't hit them areas you you yeah you can say well your planer board's 30 yards that way but you don't know where the hell it's running my baits right now I'm working right on that brake line man I know exactly where my baits are at cuz I'm using my graph and my map card together to know exactly where I am at all times so this is a good fish but y'all need to holler at Ryan boards let him know if he's going to fish some planer boards against me he better put out about six more rods cuz the eight he's working with today ain't enough he tried calling me earlier he' caught that big and I had a missed call from him that's probably him dinging my phone right there he said he was calling to to brag I said he better focus more on fishing than bragging cuz I had passed him up at that point we have a good time trash talking each other you definitely if you fishing against me or Ryan you don't want either one of us to beat you cuz you'll never hear the end of it this a good fish here we're going to this in here might be an upgrade I'm tighten my drag a little bit more yeah this is an upgrade for sure definitely an upgrade this is a nice one one right here and I think right in here is where I got the big one when I'd come down to pref fish right here in this general area yeah folks that right there that one's definitely going to upgrade us come over here fish I want to get you on the board by gosh okay come on in fish nice nice I bet this one here is probably I'm going to guesstimate 38 40 in range he's a upgrade for sure man that's awesome that's awesome folks definite upgrade y'all 39 and a/4 in that is a solid fish and he's got a belly on him too man that's a good one I'll hold this one up and give him a little front camera time boosting my score like that man that's awesome thank you so much blue Kat I'm appreciative of getting fish like this anytime but especially when it's on a tournament day and you might make me a little money fish or check in for the end of the tournaments at Logan's Roadhouse in Florence you might have just bought me a steak tonight fish you ever had steak before he this fish down here he see never know y'all you never know when that next bite's coming well folks it's now 228 I am currently still in the lead 117 1/2 in and I still have big fish with 41 1/2 in so still three people that haven't turned in any fish yet so I don't know if they are just getting skunked or if they're sitting on fish and waiting to turn them in at the end either way I got to get out of here soon I am right across from where I'm launched at so I'm going to give it maybe 3 minutes five more minutes reel up make a run over there and make sure I make it to check in I I hate leaving the water before lines out time at 3:00 but boy it would suck awful bad if I if I risked it and hit traffic or got behind a train or any kind of reason that delayed me getting back and that's what cost me winning or cashing or whatever however it shakes out so anyway y'all I'll give you an update here once the results are final and and give you the numbers and all that who won what and yada yada yada but uh overall started kind of rough for me but we've pulled it out here at the end y'all I'm going to go home Happy regardless of how the score turns out today the leaderboard all that I'm going to go home Happy feeling like I've grinded it out out here and got the fish that matters so the of the days that I pre-fish I come down here you know two weeks ago fish two days and then I came down earlier this week and fish two days today has been my best the the five total days now that I have fished down here today has been the best day for me so getting it done when it mattered the most so anyway y'all let's get these lines up and head to check in and see what happens oh man here we go y'all here we go I guess I ain't leaving just yet what a time for this Rod to go down I just filmed my little on the water closing segment and was going to give it to 235 is what I said in my mind and this Rod just got smoked it's just spot lock right here and whatever happens with this fish whatever it is this is our last one I'm going to get the heck out of here after this one got to there wasn't tournament hours I'd just keep going out here my butt and my back's feeling it though I'm getting getting old y'all I can't do these long hours in the kayak anymore most of my trips four 5 Hour range these 8 hour days in a tournament plus you know just the driving time it takes to to get down here I got about 4-Hour drive home to now I'm getting too old for this crap it's fun though I've had fun catching fish today Alabama I feel like it's been pretty good to me today two out of the four pre-fishing days at one day I got completely skunked and one day I only caught one small fish made me feel like I wasn't very welcome down here I know these Alabama people hate us Tennessee fans but I'm feeling welcomed right now I think it's is going to be a good fish right here y'all we'll see if he's an upgrade need a at this point I need it'll take a 37 in fish to improve my score so we'll see we get him up here if he's anywhere near that the concerning thing about like I said there was three people that hadn't turned in any fish yet and it could be that they're just having a rough time out there today today but one of the fellas that ain't turned in any fish absolutely wrecked them pref fishing now he's been down here I think for 2 or 3 days leading up to the tournament and he caught an 80 pounder and he caught some more big fish so he may have he may have wore him out today too and just hasn't turned in his fish yet or it could be a situation where he sore lift a bunch of them fish on your practice days and and they just moved out today that happens that's why this place down here with it being so close to me I'm you know 4 hours from Florence I wanted to come down earlier figure out a plan of what I needed to do and then go home for a few days stock up on bait give the fish a break of where I was going to be fishing and then come back down on tournament day and be ready to roll and I don't think this fish here he's a decent fish but I don't think he's going to help us at all if he ain't going to help us he needs to get on with it cuz we got to go fish we got to get the heck out of here yeah it's a fun Sizer right here I'm going to throw him on the board just for duties and Giggles but I don't think he's going to get to 37 in for us I need you to be gentle with me too fish I done packed up my glove and everything I was trying to be efficient as as as efficient as possible out here I can't get my words out efficiently come here now oh okay fish all right y'all unless that other Rod over there goes down before I can get this fish going and that one reeled in this is going to be the last fish of the video let's throw him on the board right quick and see what we got to work with here W you be an upgrade for me no oh sliding off there fish getting boat W 34 is give or take nice fish normally a front camera worthy fish but not right now buddy I'm in a I'm in something that she shouldn't be in I think she's got something out of the fire pit dang dog never learns a lesson but anyway y'all didn't film the the tournament wrap up there at the checkin just wanted to hang out with the people that had come out to meet me thank you all for those of you that showed up and obviously I wanted to hang out with the guys there too in the tournament and figure out what went right and what went wrong for them but I'll show you the final score here there I am at the top 117 1/2 in also had the big fish 41 1/2 in got me $1,800 for the win Aubrey boyin in second he got $600 and some odd dollar and Ryan there in third A4 inch behind Aubrey got $150 got his entry fee back also that big fish prize right there paid me another $825 so uh pretty nice payday to go down there to Alabama and fish a dag on tournament man and in addition to the cash prize also got this right here show you these man some very nice trophies provided to us by flegal Electric got the first place prize there and also got the big fish prize hopefully those don't slide off the car while I'm talking to you that'd be a disaster wasn't it but uh yeah y'all Alabama good to me on tournament day not so much on the practice days but hey we caught them when it mattered we figured out a pattern on the practice days figured out that I needed to be moving be dragging baits that was what they were kind of presentation that they were wanting and and it paid off got the fish when it mattered so coming home happy so so thank y'all for following along especially those of you that
