He's like one of few games journos I even listen to and like the one journo in the west that cares about Dragon Quest.
Tim Rogers is great. The long form videos may not be for everyone but I love it. The tangents to he goes on are fantastic and they all some how tie in into everything. I recommend checking out his fantastic dragon quest reviews or his Let's Mosey series where compares the English translation of FF 7 with the Japanese text.
Tim Roger's is pretty fantastic and has some real insightful things to say about the video games he covers and their place in the industry.
Thereβs a Borges story bout a man with perfect idetic memory who cannot function by leaving his house. He can remember the imperfections in a glass to microscopic detail. He can remember the first sound his neighbour made on literally any specific day. He can remember everything so perfectly that he cannot dream and the only way he can fall asleep is by imagining the part of his town heβs never seen otherwise his brain is constantly working.
Tom Rogers reminds me of that story
I knew about "time to crate", but I didn't know the dude was so beloved. Checked out his Death Stranding review, figured I'd check out his view on a divisive game that I happened to love. Holy shit, I cannot stand the dude. He manages to go at least 10 minutes (probably longer, I couldn't watch any more) without saying anything of any substance, repeating the same things several times.
If y'all like Tim Rogers I highly recommend checking out Noah Caldwell-Gervais on YouTube. He does similar content (that being very long and in-depth reviews of games) tho definitely more focused than Tim. His writing is pretty incredible imo and more people should check him out.
For starters I really like his series retrospective on God of War, his video on the 2 Homefront Games, and his video comparing Soma to Tacoma.
I remember him yeaaaarrrrrsssss ago from Kotaku, writing overly verbose, incredibly pretentious articles along with his website that read almost like parody of some Polygon crap.
He changed the game with his MGS2 deep dive article. One of the few gaming industry people that I respect immensely.
Does Tim Rogers have anything to do with "Start to Crate"? Isn't that Old Man Murray?
