Carmelo Anthony Goes Sneaker Shopping With Complex

[Music] [Music] what's up everybody its Joe from complex were in Chicago at Saint Alfred's with 10 time NBA all-star and three-time Olympic gold medalist Carmelo Anthony from we're gonna do some sneaker shopping today gonna see what he's feeling what he's not and then hopefully is gonna buy some sneakers see how Phil let's go Melo what's it like to see a project like this with Chicago collaborators with wings a shoe designed by kids I think the kids is the actual suits and their we all we hear that right yeah to actually see that and then believe in that and then give them a platform to be able to create something that actually coming to fruition I think a lot of kids today don't really feel like they have that that outlet he's in be able to curate and see it through and actually see it here today but that's what give everybody hope right now that's gonna be up everybody you know that excitement to want someone to be creative absolutely and like think about when you were a kid the days at the dungeon and playing ball and like new sneakers what was that feeling like for you like how good sneakers can make a kid so confident well I think we all know that right Nui when we was younger we always had that feeling right and say Easter even for an example like we all looked at Easter as that moment to have the fly a shoe yeah sneakers so you wanted to come around the block with the Flies things on definitely didn't matter what you had I don't your outfit but the shoes is always your footwork was was incredible in that that's all that matters so I think that the the idea of having fresh feet like you have to have that yeah like my son is 12 years old and that's all he talks about it I gotta have the dribbling right right what you don't get when he got on his body long as his footwork is is impeccable that's all that matters yeah and I noticed Cayenne even the Kinect has dripped over to him the MJ 101 blue panel in there 11 he put someone into himself oh look I'm gonna do with this and you always incorporated West Baltimore design cues that's why I think this makes you the perfect ambassador for this project well the most important thing for me was to actually give back to my community right when you go to the store you you buy a mellow sneaker and you from actually Baltimore I didn't feel a little bit more connected than that to that sneaker and I can see what happened with this wings you can see the connectivity from the kids to Chicago so when you go and grab this sniffing like you feel like you're from Chicago absolutely oh that that's a cargo pride in I think when you design it like it you can throw a little tidbits in there of who you are and then give back to where you're from that's that make it a little bit more special for sure mellow one thing I always liked about your Footwear taste in Jordans Tuesday knives were one of your favorites a little kind of underrated in the pantheon of Jordans how did they become your favorites I heard there was like a Quentin Richardson story I know what the nines I was in I was in high school that was actually the first pair of Jordans that I had okay like and Corning Richardson gave him some he was playing the Clippers at the time so it was like this this peeve like all black with the Clipper blue clear red number three on the back that was the best shoe I ever had from that plant like all the nine is everything it didn't follow enough the two right I had to the Denver Nuggets - yep cut the blue with the yellow absolutely so it was like once I had dad and I was playing I'm like all this is the tuna now everybody my my favorite shoe back there I'm a UConn guy 2003 you guys win the national championship and I saw even like you snuck in all black pair of nines playing for Syracuse that wasn't down with a pair you know it was the parents Belted acquaintance recent there yeah cuz we always looked at choosing like you were killing us that ye o Adam UConn you call I had the Jays back there yeah like Quran did it a little bit and then a little later like penguin Balaam was really intelligent one that's like nines another thing that you said is like you used to see the older guys wearing like up tempos and barclays and things like that and that's how you really became like a big fan of sneakers so Jays in my hood wasn't like wasn't big like that okay right if it was up temple it was the barclays yes the the Tim Duncan's yeah it was the the garnets like those was that just the pips those was really what we was wearing he it wasn't until I got to hold kill that the Jays really became something that better than I really wanted like it was like I have to have those right to go to a Jordan I joined school like old killing so once we get there you get to submit three nines you get the yeah you get the Bradley Levin's like you get those three pair of sneakers in high school yes set is your set for the whole year you guys would get all the Jordans auto kill but you wouldn't wear them on court a lot of times you would stack them and just keep them yelling I would never put I never played in my braids okay I'll play one game in my and my submit three is because I couldn't afford no J right then I was saved them and put them under my bed Michele put the cover over top so nobody can yeah I could get him in the team Joe it was like what I was planning because I just wanted to save bill so when I went back home I had some type of dirt for sure I remember there was a time young in your career you were like buying sneakers every day do you miss those days or too much snow I still do your son has a faint ran so easy my son is more into it now right he's online he's he's letting me know what's coming out yeah before you if it comes out but we have those conversations like I had my moments while I'm in the store I'm online yeah I gotta have it right even though I have the resources yeah activated it to give me those sneakers like I want to feel like I purchase it like I accomplished something absolutely got a ton of pease throughout the years uh blue and yellow 12s the red 11s that you had before like years later they dropped the red Elevens but they set the internet on fire do you have a favorite besides the Quentin Richardson one I would have said the red they're ready lovers but they came out yeah they dropped few years later they used you as like a litmus test that went crazy when I wouldn't say that anymore the wider the white and the white and yellow pens for white and yellow tens the white and yellow 12 well no one's special the next tens yeah like those was you have them all still I still have them all okay you keep them in the closet active well talked about everything now get a shot with the kids lace them with some sneakers absolutely [Music] we are looking for help you we look at the drip a new right spot I'm looking at these yeah I want you well I don't know I like these can go on the classics and keeping an eye on like the Jordan 1 then I like this colorway so I don't get these um did you join one see more of my staff you know and also I want these boys woman you know not everybody from Rocklin but I know I don't really pull these out how about you for you guys okay these just say jainism then I gotta grab these forth to grab those sweets thank you all right there total so negating 1339 54 seconds thank you I got outside I'll take a well I got this we got the mixing hope y'all pick some fire over this now designed to find y'all how to pick this fire thank you [Music] [Music] so Mello came through the Chicago Jordon wings kids congrats on your design sold out thanks so much for taking the time guys it's been Grady make sure you check out Melo on the Portland Trailblazers big facts [Music]
