Car™ (The Game) Is Good

[Music] what is that I don't know but I feel like I've seen it before [Music] hor is an all right movie it's not the best Pixar has to offer but still far from the worst as a kid I liked the film but mostly enjoyed collecting all the different toy cars much like frozen despite being average in its quality car sold a boatload of merchandise not to mention the slew of media that spawned from it one such piece of media is the official cars video game released in 2006 for just about every contemporary platform we had the PC version but if you want the best graphics you need to get the one for the green box the story takes place after the movie which is something I love seeing in TI games films can only show so much and often leave you wanting more so it's always a pleasure to further explore the worlds and characters instead of just reliving the film in game form adding to that most of the voice cast reprise their roles here including Owen Wilson Michael Keon Paul Newman of course Larry the Cable Guy oh let me tell you learning about this man's existence as a non-american is an experience to say the least the game has several modes with the main campaign letting you choose to either play it in full or opt for the compact version instead we of course play as Lightning McQueen himself I be and the first race happens to be the radiator springs Grand Prix acting as a tutorial the driving in cars is pretty solid though a little unresponsive at times the power slide ESP especially just kind of doesn't register on some terms since this is a kids game you can't really crash so whenever you collide with something you just bounce off when the race concludes we find out it was all just a dream and are finally set free into the open World the game features three open areas starting with Radiator Springs as you complete more races and events the other two ornament Valley and tailin Pass open up as well speaking of activities apart from the various races you can partake in mini games like collecting tires as Luigi chasing down Speeders as the sheriff or going tractor tipping as Mater that's a fun for each completed event you get a number of trophy points the amount varying based on your placement these are needed to unlock the five Piston Cup races though some activities are mandatory to progress the game regardless of points and last but not least you can collect these lightning tokens that award you score points which can be used to purchase bonus content that includes characters for the arcade mode paint jobs concept art and even deleted scenes come on let's check out this one oh yeah that's what I'm talking about this is too uh going back to the story We complete a few activities such as a power sliding lesson with Doc a boot camp with Sarge and an introduction to boost with felmore now you may notice that we don't get any boost during the Cup races so does that mean it's like energy drinks or steroids is Lightning McQueen taking peeds that should have been the plot of Cars 3 the majority of events start and end with a cut scene and while I wouldn't describe them as incredibly written they do very much fit the characters and overarching story of cars which along with the environments help to solidify the atmosphere hey look guys it's the King of the Road yeah more like McQueen of the road the open world itself is definitely the Highlight providing enough complexity and visual variation to keep things fresh while remaining true to the source material even on the slightly inferior PC version the environments look great especially the neonlit town at night the roads are Lively too populated by both random Travelers and the residents of the surrounding areas there doesn't seem to be enough of them though as the game often keeps spawning the same car you just passed by oh yeah forgot to mention all the cars have voice lines reacting to whatever it is you're doing whether it's just passing by oh my goodness hello passing by a little too close please be careful pulling off a sick jump or ramming them with Reckless abandon hey what was that for oh my God I took his eye out hey the lines repeat a lot but they still enhance the immersion another contributing factor to the overall atmosphere is of course the music featuring a blend of original tracks and license songs the latter of which I can't play here it would be nice to have a bit more variation for each area as some races start blending together after a while but overall the sound soundrack works really well back in the campaign we progressed further doing things like racing in a derby and becoming a monster truck all the while meeting a handful of new characters eventually we unlocked the final race but similar to the movie before we can get there m gets robbed by the gang of tuners forcing lightning to retrieve his gear in a high-speed chase well okay maybe it's not that exciting but I love it when you get to play as the bad guys even for a little bit much like the game taking place after the film it lets you experience a part of the world or a story perspective that the movies usually don't feature not to mention it provides some gameplay variety it's simple but goes a way in immersing a player especially younger one after capturing the devious gang we find out it was none other than chick who paid them off the we kind of confront him about it but then the final race starts as mentioned before the Piston Cup races are what you work up to throughout the campaign and they're fine they definitely got the vibe and scal down but the intensity doesn't carry over to G gam playay a part of me understands why you can't properly portray this type of race with this game simple mechanics but I also feel like they could have changed it up with some scripted moments like a pileup or at least have some of the cars race more aggressively we do get the bit stop miname which is okay but it's something that's separated from the racing anyway we win the race and in Wild turn of events lightning challenges chick to a radiator springs Grand Prix this time a real race through all of the three open World areas and ending with a final Cup race and the regulatory body of the Piston Cup just allows that how does that work who cares don't think about it too hard can we do that we can now the Grand Prix races are all separate and while again I understand why it would have been much better if we got a big CrossCountry Sprint or at least had something tying it all together you got to drive to each event and started manually which defeats the momentum but luckily the cut scenes help to bring some of it back after winning all the Grand Prix races and beating chick for one last time were treated to a final farewell cut scene with a strangely potent end so uh where are we going anyway I don't know wherever the road takes us I guess it's a pretty big country I think this is a good example of what cars did right and where could have gone had the franchise not been derailed and much like the movie Cars the video game is mostly good but seldom great though still authentic in a lot of aspects in the world of Ty games it's just about as good as you can reasonably ask for considering the average is pretty awful also this isn't the only Cars game out there and definitely not the only good Pixar or Disney tyin that I played as a kid I've been really enjoying these kinds of videos and this bad boy has a lot more in store so stay tuned for that anyway thanks to my patrons here are some more videos and buy
