Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
The last one seems largely like a piece of art, which would affect the price independently of the audio quality of the piano.
Of course it still sounds very good.
I've played the $5,000 piano in my house and then played my friend's $250,000 piano and holy shit the sound and the feel of the keys just feel so different I felt like I entered the 5th dimension.
I can hear a clear difference going from first to second, but not sure if I hear a difference going from second to third.
Am I an uncouth commoner?
I won't pay a dollar more than 2.0 million for that piece of junk and that's final
As a pianist, one of the things that you'll never get out of these videos is the tactile response that differentiates good pianos from great pianos. The $2,500 piano and $50,000 piano had similar sounds, but I would expect that the $50,000 piano has a better "feel" and allows for more subtle expression. Although in my experience once you get past the $20,000 level, there's not really much of a discernible difference. Once you get to that level it starts to come down to personal preference, aesthetics, and the status that comes with an expensive piano.
A professional musician once told me "never buy a new piano. tons of great little used second hand pianos. and get a yamaha".
I appreciate the absence of talking. It was pretty soothing. But I gotta say, I haven't felt that much difference between the pianos. Maybe it's just my ear.
Diminishing returns
The more expensive piano has nicer tone (to my ears) but I also think the cheaper one needs a tune up - I think it's not a fair comparison until that's done.
