Can you BEAT this Terraria Mod in Master Mode? Thorium #2

all right so good morning everyone now welcome back to chippy's Couch today we return for a little more thorium 1.4 now something I've never discussed on this channel is a little curse that is set upon the channel occurs that I truly believe in which is called episode two right for some reason and I don't know why I've been doing YouTube for many a year it's 12 years this year six years of chippy's couch but for some reason whenever it comes to an episode two I feel like I I fumble a little bit I don't know why because here's the thing right episode two you've got a lot of stuff to talk about you've got the excitement of episode one The responses you know and we're gonna get into that and then you've also got a grand new adventure out of you so you've got loads of stuff to talk about but for some reason I just fumble it a little bit like for example this is the fourth time I've hit record right to do the intro now this can go from 4 to 15 real easy I don't know why but we are back and most importantly we're back on a very sport uh important C look I'm already fumbling I'm just gonna let it carry on okay have you ever been in a situation like this where you've just gotta ride it out all right we're riding it out what it what was it gonna say okay it's a very important date it is because it's one date closer to the launch of Netflix's chicken run 2. now a small New Year's resolution of mine is to be invited to the premiere so what we're going to do is we're just going to keep mentioning it and hopefully someone from Netflix they're gonna tune in and they're gonna be like oh James chippy all right we we need him here he's chicken runs biggest fan so you know I'll let you know how it goes um but also if you do have any New Year's resolutions let me know mine is a little bit unrealistic but strange things have happened right in general I don't know where I'm going with this uh so to kick start today's episode uh I thought we should go back to exploring but also maybe working on some armor because you get these icy shards from Icy enemies and they make icy armor Greaves headgear and mail and to make the full set you need eight twelve 18. it's quick maths all right so I think we should start off by getting some armor and then kind of go from them now um we did learn from a developer of Thorium in the comment section that even though thorium has its own classes um it also has additions to existing classes in the game like Melee so I haven't actually fully set on a class yet but I think what I'm probably gonna do is you know keep grinding out make the character better and then around the time of the first boss maybe the second will kind of naturally fall into the groove of a class so nothing has been predetermined all right I'm an open-ended book you know going back to the book metaphor yesterday um and I believe in that I also believe in hitting the like button and also subscribing if you're new which is apparently a different color now it's a white button all right people are like oh James what a boomer right it's not been red for a while listen when I started it was yellow now I've got to say it was wonderful reading your comments yesterday it truly was like I've missed them quite a bit and just like learning about you lock and how your life has changed in the last seven months seven months is a long time and um and it was just I don't know it warmed my heart quite a lot some of you had had some like big major life changes some people had uh left College we're now in uni some people had finished their degree some people were getting offered a First Choice spot for the University of choice it was awesome plenty of people getting jobs plenty of people looking for jobs but they're optimistic I I just loved it and that's the best part about chippy's couch all right as many of you all know this channel is more like a podcast than anything all right the Terraria gameplay is secondary and it and and to be honest with you I kind of forgot that when we came back to do the Calamity 1.5 series seven months ago I I I I kind of came back and was like nah what we're going to do is we're going to focus on the gameplay right we're editing more we're getting progress done that's not what the channel is and um and reading your comments yesterday really reminded me of that and I'm so glad that we are back and um and it was just nice to read it really was um for anybody that's maybe new to the channel that's maybe never seen one of these before maybe you've checked out the main channel uh because that's also grown quite a bit in the last seven months it's like a it's like a quarter bigger or a third bigger than it ever was in in the space of the year it's kind of mad right if you are new around here the way the channel operates is nothing is pre-recorded so an episode is recorded it's edited it goes out I read the comments I record the next one so there's there's a little back and forth and then that's my favorite part about it you know it's it's that it's that shifting dynamic in a conversation sometimes I I emphasize words all right I I add some big words in there for absolutely no reason it's called fumbling all right and that's also a thing okay I see charts how many have we got we have 17 so we will go back to the house now there were some comments uh doubting the validity of this house you know whether I really built it or I brought the king of blocks on himself to to finish the rest no this is my true raw power and uh and like I say this is what happened while you were away all right while you were sleeping I was grinding and and stand by that um okay so let's have a little look let's see because there are also weapons we can make here for example we've got the snowball we got an icy pickaxe we've got icy tomahawks we've got a lance a cube a breaker this I will say thorium is really good if you want to stick to a class because look at this there are options for everything here like you're playing melee but you like flails here you go are you playing as a Bard are you playing as a thrower I will make I'm gonna finish the set first and see what the set bonus is now actually now I'm going to make the the icy Piccolo uh soak 12 symphonic damage releases a super chilled Piccolo toot damage briefly applies frostburn to hit enemies playing empowers the player with bonuses resource maximum one which I was meant to Google yesterday and I I completely forgot wow so it does have a set bonus an icy Aura surrounds you freezing enemies that stay too long within it it's very fancy and it hasn't affected our movement speed either which I kind of thought it would because a lot of modded uh armors are like out yes you've picked the Frozen one you shall be frozen right I'm gonna go try find a new cave so something I'm also going to bring up about the the first episode I want to give props like major props to the people that found the episode early alright you know who you are because it had 40 views before it actually went out yeah so here's the thing about YouTube right when you upload a video it sits on the channel unlisted so if you have a link to the video you can go and watch it before it's actually published to the people and Publishing it basically means it goes out to subscription boxes and anyone can watch it right well when I made the last episode the first episode I put it up on the channel and I added it to a new playlist so that everything would be organized when the video went out and we people found the the playlist link and an episode and it was it was glorious unfortunately I deleted it and re-uploaded it because I was nervous it might affect the algorithm I don't really know how the algorithm works all right it's a Mystic being and I don't know it's so you know I was scared right but props to you because I loved that 40 people like I've been gone for seven months and 40 people were like in the comment section and it's it's crazy and I'm grateful what is that what is that now unsurprisingly over to the right is a nice biome and a blizzard mixed with night time not really a good combination but this actually shows how powerful we've become wait that's what I just want to mention something real quick there's a snowballed down there right this one now I swear I thought one of these a couple of seconds ago and they were smaller do they get larger over time because if so I love that that's actually genius uh but this this setup though it does show that we're kind of holding our own because there aren't many starting weapons usually that would get you by a couple of Master mode Frozen zombies you know what I mean especially when they've got um arms and they can hit further so if I hit the snowball it gets smaller oh that's clever that's clever oh it gets really small okay okay let's make it a lot of sense so I'm hoping to find a cave it's obviously going to be an icy cave but if we can survive I do have a Splunk potion so there is potential for good stuff wow a deer collapse is awoken now how does that work because they don't despawn do they but if I don't engage will it still stick around on the surface because I know that that's how it works it basically just lingers around it's it's a bit of an odd one it's unlike Terraria but I think it's because that plant works in the the Don't Starve universe so I'm just running away and it's still up there and it doesn't seem to be affecting anything well that's all right because if I feel confident that it's not going to come down and kill me I am going to use this bunker potion because we could do with it so now we're on the look at the chests the beard clops though itself is such a such a sick boss it really is like I just I don't know it's one of the best things they've done in ages all right looking good we have two Life Crystals also somebody said I should keep an eye out for life quotes the one that we got basically in the last episode because you can turn those into Life Crystals but I also think it's used for the Healer class as well so it kind of has a bit of a double meaning but as you all know playing healer class in single player doesn't make too much sense so I mean our class is not determined yet but will probably shy away from that I'm probably leaning more towards Bart than anything because I I do like playing with the custom classes in a mod so this is good as well we have another spelunker potion this is great spelunker potions make all the difference when you're starting out in Terraria like just being able to quickly find uh chests and Life Crystals like it gives you such an advantage especially Life Crystals I feel like in a way they're underappreciated at the start of an adventure all right people are like I gotta get me double jump and I gotta get me weapon no no no right get Life Crystals and then you don't have to worry because you can just kind of Stomp enemies or just walk by them and just being able to do that just makes uh exploration so much better but here we go another life Crystal although I would say arguably more important than most is a grappling hook can we agree on that like a grappling hook probably makes the biggest difference just being able to evade an enemy by grappling away you know spidermaning it up it's so good so I can see here that there is some of it all I don't remember the name of the ore um but we will grab it I have a feeling and I might be wrong that it's tied to the first boss that might that might not be right like do you get some of this from the first boss and then this is like topping up kind of like a Demonite we're gonna mine it and we're gonna find out and then we'll know what's it called all right I can't mine it so I'm probably gonna need a golden pickaxe or platinum we'll see we'll come back for it uh another chest over here thank you one thing I would love is a mining potion and I haven't got any a mining potion would make a big difference here too oh no please leave me alone I'm just I'm trying to get back to where I died uh dear clubs I am friendly leave me alone I was not expecting this I thought I could silently shrug that definitely oh I've just been out with my ear cups listen I died to a random enemy alright I thought I'll just I'll casually walk back there it'll be fine nah two clubs got other motives so where have you gone now dear klops I still up there there I just want to get back to my dead body all right I want my chest is that oh I can't even buy that oh this is terrible this is not good at all so something I wanted to to mention because I find it very cool and we didn't get the chance to mention it seven months ago right so when I make a playlist for a modded series I typically put in like in the playlist title PC Mac as in you can play this on a PC or a Mac right if you wanna if you want to play along at home so that people don't click on it and be like oh I want I want thorium on the Xbox right no no not happening sadly not yet maybe one day who knows right anyway I digress I put in Steam deck because you can now play modded terrarium on the go on a steam deck and I find that wild because I've been playing modded Terraria for many a year and just the idea that you can play on the go now is so cool and I feel like and I haven't tested it a great mug to play on the steam deck specifically is thorium because thorium doesn't have um extra menus to be clicking on and such so if you're playing with the controller all the controller mapping is already done for you like okay maybe you're not going to interact with ease without a keyboard and mouse but you could do like 95 of everything else I mean I've not done the math here right maybe it's 81 you know let's let's not get too granular um but I find that so cool why did I go down here again oh oh okay all right let's make it a lot of sense genuinely I saw this live Crystal and they went wow that's really bad I didn't see that when I was originally here and then it went and it's so weird it's not litting up as well I thought gosh like I'm being so unobservant like I thought I had a spawn composure enabled like I gaslit myself into forgetting about this this is sick and it's funny as well because I remember I can't remember how long ago it was but I'm fairly certain I put that in a chippy gaming video when they announced that it was a little spoiler so I finally encountered one now and it's glorious and I tell you what it's better than the one that you get in the get fixed boy you know the the rolling the cactus one all right not Cactus Bolder one it's better than a boulder live Crystal and then stand by that so what did we get for that then we got a live gem Hela class equippable can be worn in vanity slots maximum life increase by 20. healing spells will heal an additional life and may as well put that on because I haven't got the accessory slots to justify not having it do you know what I mean okay so we're doing pretty well because this is where I died before the deer clops into them so we're working our way back down there and uh I could just do with a double jump a double jump would be glorious right now because I don't want to have to keep grappling to kind of break my fall damage now I'm not even kidding and it sounds so dumb but it's only just dawned on me that there probably won't be a premiere for chicken run too so I've already broken my New Year's resolution it's a Netflix film like like what's the premiere the Netflix do premieres I don't think they do or maybe they would because it's chicken run two and it deserves one so to really succeed at my New Year's resolution not only am I gonna have to get invited to the premiere I'm also gonna have to bloody organize it myself what's that about yeah oh I was just I'm just letting the mind wander and all the dots connected heartbroken that's actually such a shame maybe what I'll do is I'll rent a cinema we'll do it Mr B style you know we'll just we'll just get extravagant we'll be bougie for no reason and I'll hold my private show with Chicken Run 2 and we'll sell tickets right to cover the cost of the cinema or the theater right it's got to be on a grand stage and then I'll get sued by aardman right the the company behind Chicken Run and oh I'll get in the paper it oh it'd be amazing all right so if you want to if you want a ticket let me know all right we're taking early sign ups so I am curious then how many life quotes is it to make a live Crystal and do you just make them here you do okay so you got the Platinum against and by pronouncing that right probably not uh defense increased by two while equipped you constantly gain generate 15 life Shields okay is it Aegis I guess we had this talk you know you lot let me know about this a while back and I'm already I'm already fumbling it a little bit I'm gonna make the the bugle horn just to kind of go with the theme life gem all right that's that's what we saw so Life Crystals then so it's ten for one it's not it's not too bad let's try the bugle horn it's not bad what's the what's the empowerment with this one the empowerment is Critical Strike chance interesting oh since we now have the Platinum pickaxe I should probably actually check out this or again so let's see I can mine it it's called thorium oh great yeah I'm really glad I forgot the name of that um there's some more up here actually I'm gonna grab that I'm going to take another spawn compulsion my goal is to just make it to this chest the one I've been trying to for a little while so it makes foreign bars and then thorium bars turns into thorium armor there's a shield there's a gun there's a Mana weapon there's false Hammer which is made with hellstone as well interesting what's the what's the Bard weapon though or is there even a bad weapon I imagine there probably is and I'm just missing it no I don't think there is inch oh no no so there is stuff you can make inspiration crystals with pebbles and this one's with Arcane dust consumable material permanently increases maximum inspiration by one up to 20. so these are definitely worth getting this one's hard mode what do these drop from these drop from Temple enemies interesting there's also a painting as well cool concentrated thorium so this is something that you get after uh Plantera there's also this material 15 base damage once every second your next Critical Strike chance causes a burst of damaging energy that sounds pretty pretty good not bad so one of the interesting Parts about bringing back chippy's couch is slipping back into my old routine which I'd kind of abandoned after um leaving chippy's couch because I didn't have a well I didn't need as much structure to the name so now little little like routine of mine is get up go get coffee record chippy's couch which is why we say good morning all right in the intro I know you watching it 4am all right with with banks under your eyes now I get it um but and I do upload them in the evening it makes no sense but I record this and then I edit it up for the night time and then I use the chunk of time between finishing that to five that's when I usually cook dinner to record chippy gaming or not record should be gaming or just like figure out what I'm gonna record on chippy gaming but yeah it's it's it's nice having a little routine I mean I'm only on day two of the routine but I'm sticking to it all right the alarm clock went off at half eight this morning I definitely got up at half eight and I'm very proud of that it was nine but you know it's it's it's weird when you when you work on YouTube you know you're self-employed there's no boss but you all right it's time for some big boss talk um so it's kind of hard to be disciplined and it's also like discipline kind of sucks when you have a creative job you don't really want to be disciplined you want to just go with the flow you know relax and enjoy it that's that's my motto uh but with chippy's couch because it is a daily thing and I'm gonna make it as daily as possible um there will be days I won't post understandable right because they've got other videos to work on um and I also I don't know if I'm gonna post on weekends I I didn't used to post on weekends back in the day and I don't know if I'm still gonna anyway right um I don't know where I was going with this uh moral of the story all right it's it's hard to to get into a routine and um and you know every day we get a little bit better I'll let you know how I'm doing all right maybe I'll get up at nine today maybe after nine tomorrow maybe half eight we'll see right so let's check out this chest and this will round off today's episode which has been really fun it's great to be back and uh and expect more it's an icy Boomerang and it's gravity potions as well now I want those gravity potions because I saw there was a bad weapon that we can make using Cloud block so this is a really good excuse to go get some upgrades and also get the cloud block as well um there's a nymph here I've got to kill the nymph before the episode is over but I
