evening everybody welcome hey what is that clitorian that sounds like a bad name hey barry travis jim welcome all right time for me to ascertain whether i it's actually more than 90 worth because the fact that i actually drove into towns or to pick these it overload them so you can add about 40 bucks worth of petrol on top andre bt b2 don't recognize your name welcome bt if you're new um yeah so i've so what have i got here to start with i've got a couple of 34 37s yeah they're usually not too bad you can usually get them back to life 49 24s uncertain um yeah i can actually see corrosion damage on the smc on that one so that could be fun 28.79 dear god does anyone use the 2879 anymore somehow i think at the best i'll probably get more money out of this by selling the mac approved ram sticks and ultrasonic in the mag safe and selling the max say oh great this one's already dropped its magsafe cover that's great i'm losing money already there we go stuck it back on that's fine and a three one one five well if you can get a three it depends which one this is uh what have we got 2.5 so that'll be an i5 most likely i'm pretty sure this will be an i5 3115 it'd be nice if we had an i7 yeah they're always worth a little bit more but yeah but this yeah i don't even know if i've got a chassis that would even be able to test this one so all right i'll put off maybe i'll send it to you i haven't got much i don't even know if i've got a chassis for this one what is that 2009 look uh just notice this is an apple refurb so that's going to suck and this one has got very dramatic corrosion over here and it looks like the kind of corrosion that has eaten its way into the board so i think we can write this one off straight away it may be repairable but it's going to be the sort of repair that isn't reliable uh we've spoken about this before that we'll show it under the microscope once the corrosion eats into the board in a certain way it's probably best not to try and utilize it as a consumer device so you can just tell by the look of it it's pretty damn nasty actually you know maybe i'm overstating it it doesn't look like it's actually gotten yet into the board too much it has a little bit but not severely a sort of bridge so where is it yeah like here see it's getting into the circuit the board that's a fairly deep level corrosion it hasn't gone all the way through at least but yeah when it starts going around and lifting up all the tracks and pads it's a real problem over here it looks mostly like it's just simply the pads that have gone nasty it's very interesting that it's um we've got two different types of copper oxide going on here maybe three um so you got the darker green and then you've got the lighter green blue aqua type thing they usually represent different types of copper oxide so i'm kind of curious as to what got spilled on this anyway it would still be a bit of a devious fix in my opinion if this was a 165 then it'd certainly be good for the smc but i've already got plenty of 3437 smcs mind you this does have a very pretty looking isl almost immaculate so it could serve its timeout more as a good quality donor it looks like someone's been proven around trying to pick something of the senses we'll put that one on the um probably not list okay yeah i don't think i'll do a taste test thanks bruno it could be lethal for me all right so we've got a bit of corrosion again up here and again not too severe i'm pretty sure that hasn't broken through shoot my proposition is looking worse and worse now oh wow that's interesting someone butchered that [Music] at least the price i do pay for these boards is less than what the hell is missing there it's less than what i pay for a donor anyway from coming out of china oh nothing that's meant to be there but hey infomedia i don't know if it's youtube's algorithms that's broken or rather my algorithm for when i opt to yeah this one's been pretty badly washed hs105 is also damaged there sorry got a lot of these it's almost like these two came from the same place these boards smc has got a little bit of corrosion around it yeah a bit of a flood sale so i do wish these were 165's but beggars can't be choosers [Music] well this might be the one that we tackle first just to have a shot so we'll see how that goes okay let's have a look at the 4924 quickly this of course is the 2015 a1502s there's this two point two point nine and eight gigabyte this it's not a bad board this one actually reminds me i didn't check to see what that 3437 was 1.78 gig so yeah this would be a nice board to restore if i could 1.7 and 8 gigs someone's damaged that connector there it's a weird spot of corrosion there that's kind of weird uh just random junk on those traces i thought it might have been the case of created through and it looks like this one something that looks like bug p on there and the smc looks like it took a few hits too so we've got a bit of bug p and smc on this one this might be repairable this one i might actually get my money back at least if nothing else 2.78 gig okay i'm being very quick with my observation over this i'm not really digging in deep looking for tiny stuff okay so we've got a bit of corrosion on a test point off the cpu pch area oh wow okay that might have killed the might have killed the system but i'd say that's probably our primary fault there oh wait no spoke too soon looks like smc and someone scraped away at it already all right so double header there mmm less likely i'm not even gonna look at the 2879 but i will look at the three one one five hey tony uh tom y and nick i see most of these are butchered on the bottom yeah look at that that's already you can see it's this is gonna be a nightmare this is the classic sort of it's been living in townsville and towns will be in an ocean town for a seaside town this is all very normal it's not as bad as some but i would say add it to the downlist i've got so many 3115s now i've got to stop picking them up there's no point really i've probably got more 3115 parts than i'll ever use now and unfortunately not really enough machines to do something with admittingly this one is not as bad as many of the ones that i see but it's still pretty gnarly like all this stuff down here you've seen me a few weeks ago dealing with all this sort of area and that cap that always gets affected hey eric um yes the 1466 that we were missing the sus line on sus enable i think it was that does it's been working fine now since i ultrasonic so there was just a bit of junk sitting under there and thankfully it cleared out thankfully otherwise that would have been a bit of a letdown all righty okay let's have a look at this one and see what we can do first thing i'll do before i even power this up is actually get these parts back on to the right place i'm kind of curious why they got knocked off but uh we'll fix that up first hey tech oh man i don't want to mess up that sticker i'm going to relocate the sticker sticker relocation program hey yeah nick i kind of noticed the same half of the problem is that i've well the 3000 series boards in general i am finding i'm suddenly starting to get a lot of failures with them that i can't repair think the success also of the m1 type macbooks has kind of made people look to upgrading finally [Music] i think we've got a part missing here as well i'm gonna fix that up not sure why this got butchered hey max hey admin made it media rather [Music] come on man melt already [Music] but yeah i don't see a lot of value proposition okay that's going to need to be replaced because you can see the end caps of that part have actually fallen off so we need that part and that part i really should be doing other things right now or other boards there are certainly no shortage of boards in the workshop here that need the love and attention of someone who knows what they're doing unfortunately paul less from rosman group has not agreed to come here and do my work for me which is really unfortunate because he is he is a smart cookie who could definitely do this for me and speaking of such things i see that um tim herman is uh buddying up with jessa jones and they're going to do a macbook course so that's interesting there's a few other interesting aspects to what's going to go on down there but i'm kind of waiting i'm going to play the wait and see game and see what happens out of it nothing to do with tim or jessica but rather someone else hey sabatino [Music] it is interesting that some people feel they they have to do these sort of what you have everybody's different but it is interesting that there are some people who for them they have this compulsion they have to do the course that's how they learn and then you get other people who are quite the opposite and find horses somewhat abhorrent and prefer to you know struggle themselves online and just go around asking questions and things like that so different people learn different ways i know i get a couple of people who ask me if i'll do tutorials you know teaching repairs and i'm like nope no not what i'm that's not what i do i wouldn't even consider myself qualified to do so anyway the last time that i ever did paid training work was teaching people microsoft excel 97 and i didn't even do that well miles i mean it depends um i think it comes down to the person some things you can observe or even if you just ask around and some things you just learn by yourself through the process of all this oh wow that's been chewed out okay it's definitely not going to come up with this hs105 chip like that it's got corrosion on the other side so that's definitely a case of i must remove that if i'm to have any hope of it coming up and i'm going to need maximum heat on this for a small part it is obnoxiously difficult to get it off yummy steak the 20 volt machine is still sitting at 5 volts in fact it didn't even it didn't even bless me with 20 volts this morning like it had been all the other times so i'm feeling that when i went over the board with the hot air i kind of pushed something just a little bit too far and now it's definitely dead it's fully dead so fun and games yet to happen so you do have a 105 on this yeah are you an intact 105 how to tell yes steve i'm i'm not doing anything with um lewis and right to repair i just don't really feel like i have a useful place on the battlefront of right to repair i actually don't even feel i don't have the desire or the compulsion to be on that battlefront i should probably be ashamed of myself for that but i don't know i feel like i'm more useful in other ways can't all these soldiers on that phone uh there's obviously plenty of other issues here but i want to see what we're dealing with to start with give us some kind of perspective damn it i didn't order more of the damn crossover flexes damn it okay i'll be right back you ah jackpot all right just had to get some of these let's see is this the 1722 yes it is one of those sort of cables that you've never seemed to have enough of so what question was i avoiding i don't think i was awaiting questions there is an aussie to repair movement um jim hooks involved in that and jim's probably already said said that now i'm not expecting this thing to do much at all so you're not being some sort of suits there there's sort of bridge i'm more just simply curious to see what the state of failure is i think you need to you need to have a certain type of personality to do teaching all right so as expected we've pretty much got no life we don't even have well we don't even have cis one wire so let's see if we have 342 so we've got 342 and smc is so running at least have the prerequisites there now we've got to go through clean up all the trash and hopefully we'll have a running board dense smasher i reckon there's probably about a couple of hundred guides on google for that sort of thing doing fundamental guitar amps and things like that it's a pretty popular topic i guess you could decide also what amp you want to do what class do you want class a a b b d god forbid to do d mind you to be honest yeah class d amplifiers are pretty damn good these days you've got to have a pretty good ear about you to hey there's that uh capacitor that was the missing part from up there kind of worried a lot of these test pads have looked like they've been eaten through a bit much let's just put on our janitor pants and do the best we can so this here is some pretty nasty stuff that can really affect the booting up here a little bit less so but you know still important so we'll start with this one here because that's right under the cpu and let me see plink off twin yep there it goes jessa style um okay with amplifiers the classes basically comes down to you know what rather me explaining it if you i'm sure wikipedia probably has an article on it the classes of amp club fundamentally a class a amplifier it uses up a huge amount of energy but it ensures that the waveform the transistor is always it's out of saturation it's never in saturation it's always in the mid-range sort of thing of the operating band of the transistor so it's biased that way but the downside is that in order to keep it there you've got to essentially keep feeding a lot of power so you could put 100 watts into a class a amplifier you'll get an excellent audio signal out of it but you're only going to get i don't know what the efficiency is i think about 10 maybe maybe 15 watts of actual power to the speaker a class a is sorry a class b [Music] has the problem that the transit you get a transition glitch as it goes between the high and low side transistors class a b they kind of bias the transistors to cross over a bit so it's the compromise between the two class d is pulse width modulation class amplifier where it's um [Music] yeah it's just a pwm amp using square wave bashing now the downside is it creates a lot of horrible harmonics but these days they make some very excellent class d amplifiers that deal with the harmonics by spreading the spectrum around a bit if you want to use a small battery you're probably going to end up with class a b or um you know just get an off amp [Music] i don't know man do many people make their own discreet amplifiers anymore op amp with rail to rail amplif um ability is what you're going to be looking for what is that um what is it there's a little tin amplifier kit uh what is it called the tin is for little mint lollies or something i can't remember the name the tin but it's a popular little first project for amplifiers i wish i could remember it even lewis rossman did one actually all right so we've definitely lost the end of that pad there to corrosion so we'll scratch it back there might be something left there altoids thank you very much from the ashes i t yeah the altoids tin amplifier have a look at that that's a pretty good starting point [Music] yeah that pads are gonna [Music] thankfully we did not lose this one because that one there's the one that's going pretty much straight to the ball on the other side of the circuit board and if we had lost that pad then it would have been fun to try and get it back i'm not even sure what that resistor was for but we're gonna go find out bring up the schematic and board view and that's the chat window 18w morning mikhail from greenland see john 1980s considered electronics teaching but my rmit lectures at the time such naturals i didn't pursue it oh you mentor now so that's putting yourself into it this is probably the more fun i am so glad now that i've got coloration of parts on here because it makes it easy for me to locate where i am like we could do the all in okay we're going to be a bit of an opposing here but you can see these two caps here are pretty close to where that resistor is so we've got the two caps here so it helps so one two so it's this resistor here that's gone awol looks like it's thunderbolt related and ppe okay so 3v3 sus was coming to there and then it's suspiciously gone no problem um what's the value of this resistor it shouldn't really matter i'll just steal it from somewhere 10k to pull up the thunderbolt so that probably wouldn't have killed it but obviously we need to replace it regardless oh fm practice three is on is it is that on youtube somehow i doubt that uh do they put formula one practice on youtube like they do elon musk starship practice i'm really hoping sn15 does a decent job i mean i know their prototypes and testing and stuff like that but they could do with a bit of a clear win at this point even though they are prototypes and testing because the trouble is a lot of the population that have been told about these events don't understand the fact that they are for testing and prototyping and explosions and rapid unscheduled disassembly is normal it's not desired per se but it is normal and anticipated but instead you get a couple of duds and people like oh good yeah the company's worthless it can't even build a rocket it's like you completely missed the point congratulations that's the pain of putting yourself out there and sharing with people what you're doing because people will not understand the point and purpose and if you try to describe to them the point in purpose they will shuffle their goal posts to ensure that their original statement remains true to their to the best of their understanding that's the trouble once people commit to a statement particularly if they've been rather emphatic about it then they're just going to continuously morph reality around them in order to be able to maintain that status of them what they said being true just like what i've just done now i've got countless studies that i can't reference that prove that yeah the more the people commit to it or the more they're emphatic about it the more they've got to stick with it oh walter you took on that 1466. okay so you got a beating yet or is it still work in progress sorry i didn't quite catch your next text line there my biggest problem with dealing with boards like this is not so much the challenge of it i mean i enjoy the challenge but for me i worry about the dependability of the board i don't want to be creating boards that i'm not sufficiently confident about all right i'll clean this up in a second i just kind of want to get my alignment right which is not what i'm doing right now yeah walter that's all good until you find a short in the in the board then what are you going to do drill holes in the board usually works oh just put my finger on the soldering iron that's i found putting your finger on the soldering iron particularly the hot part of it is generally not a good thing to do just putting that out there for anybody who is considering doing soldering i've seen him do it on stock art where they grab the barrel the hot part of the barrel and they seem to be just fine with it i don't know how they're doing that it's like some sort of demon magic or something maybe they're related or there are denariis or something like that one of those people that can handle fire without it hurting them i don't know i don't watch game of thrones dragon lady whoever she was after surprisingly neoprene seems to be fairly tough i mean it melts don't get me wrong but it does seem to have a fairly good immediate contact resistance against hot things i don't think it's the fact that the giant flying visits i think it's the fact that they blow fire at everything that appeals to people and the notion that they're almost invincible it's a bit like the appeal of everest i suppose it's something to conquer something to prove yourself against and that seems to matter wait what steve k prove what what um what am i supposed to prove now did i miss the donation just before i think i missed a donation or was that last night damaris sorry nine waiting for 928 board to reappear okay we'll look we'll we'll have a um look at it tomorrow's after we've done one of these or two of these i mean i know i have to deal with it because it is a job but i guess i'm sort of like wondering what my approach can be for i guess it's sort of getting to the time where because i don't have any better answers then starting to replace cd3215s might be on the cards oh craica what just realized the imac's showing up what's this am i gambling on autopilot uh no i think that's what is this that's um growling sidewinder i enjoy watching his videos i was watching a f 22 versus f 22 with a flat spin kill before and then i thought i'd better start some work quick question 14 34 37 no sound at all not the dc input board getting 3v3 pin 28 i would just replace j 9500 outright i've had that enough times i'm not saying it's the solution but i've had plenty of times where j9500 seems okay but i just still replace it oh yeah it's still 33 okay so we're still not getting any life hey tonto evening baby so this is a pm sleepers for real fatality isl area certainly looks nice all right smc areas a little bit dodgy not terribly so but just a little like this area here if i was going to blame something i'd probably sooner say one of the [Music] test pads is eaten through uh walter i use obs on mine pretty much like everybody else yeah it's abs everybody uses abs okay rap mo uh walter you're just gonna i guess you'll just have to keep practicing the j9 500 thing because i'm pretty sure you'll find that there's a it's a likely culprit put it that way uh just like that test pad there slow with flux i usually use around about 360 330 and about 70 or 80 air and then have the patience of an angel because it's a pain though because you're always worried about messing up the camera connector which is of course substantially more annoying to replace okay i'm going to take this edge bonding here off because i don't know how far that corrosion's gotten and the stuttering of it what processor and stuff do you have on yours this is a i5 8400 or is 8584 i think so it's pretty low end especially when you consider just how many different things i'm doing on this machine i'm kind of asking a lot of it and right now i'm asking myself what have i done with my grim reaper ah there it is why my grim reaper was over that side i don't know uh baby the fault is that it's just not powering up it's got liquid damage and we're simply going through and cleaning up the liquid damage in the hope that it will be something that we clean up that ultimately fixes it [Music] we know the smc seems to be working we know our 342 seems to be working but beyond that we're not sure old hp z200 quad core i5 32 like a what sort of camera sources are you using have you used the latest obs that does the auto testing for you to work out what should work mind you will tend to probably put you into 720p output recording [Music] well those caps need to come off they're not taking any solder what happened to the 17 um macau it still won't give me 20 volts i hoped it would after a night of resting but it didn't so i really am actually going backwards with that one dodge rogers here another one that's eaten through thirty four megabit 1080 microscope cam logitech overhang three ccd camcorders yeah it sounds like you've got a good number of games there yeah just try the settings well it's hard to say the corrosion may have stopped short i'm going to live in the delirious state of hope that it has stopped short on this one because the edge bonding was there sometimes it happens alright we don't have to give up hope yet so the king that's not true that is simply untrue i am doing it simply to frustrate you and you alone all right we're lucky this line here is actually still intact the the via is probably under here i was worried that we might have lost it and it was just a floating trace but it's intact so we can put our caps in there and not have to run a line a wire over to here anywhere it saves us a small amount of work not a lot just a little [Music] yeah the gym hook 4k panasonic [Music] it's a nice camera for sure [Music] now it just needs me to go and buy a magewell capture card to suitably complement it [Music] uh va api i found tend to cause me more grief than not not rightly sure why but it was certainly unpredictable at the best so in the end i just sort of i don't think i'm using it at this point i also found it did give inferior results now maybe that was just a settings thing i'm not sure i gotta admit i was a little perplexed that it gave inferior results it's not i would have expected it to be just as good if it's encoding with the same settings and anyway clearly i don't know my stuff well enough damn it man some flux well also life can be life can be tricky in the sense of as soon as you get back up on your feet something you sort of become paranoid that something else is coming for you people wonder why people like myself become anxiety people because the universe seems to have decided that it's going to be a regular regular occurring event that will throw a spanner at me like the other week for the last week with micro and the insulin issues yeah it's like you dare relax for a moment and you will be punished inside the universe is unknown i don't know my political styles well enough but uh marx isn't the right one i don't know not allowed to relax oh wait maybe that's catholic hey teresa come on solder up buddy there you go this one's going to be a little bit weird because i don't really have a broad trace to rest it on so this is pretty much just going to be thin trace to thin wire to thin trace actually where does it if it goes up to there maybe i can tie it up but i don't think it does i think it goes under this chip all right here we go make sure i get it at an awkward angle for myself maximize my chances of failure i'm always marvel marveling at uh those people who can make pretty swirls with their why work you know they make a nice little swirl for a test pad or something like that or a missing pad it's like thanks yeah i'm lucky enough to get the wire on but now you want to do swirls it's like you're kind of expecting a bit much from me it's not who i am but um kudos to them for having that sort of talent talented bastards next trick is to make sure you don't cut through the trace the wire but not the trace living a bit dangerously there on that first cap just a little bit too close on the solder there between the end of the cap and the wire all right see if this boots now probably not oh wait we just go backwards you know we've got the charge okay well we're still um oh oh wait we had something for a flicker then that was interesting all right we just had a quick pulse there and i'm wondering if that means there's a short yeah we either got a short or we've got a current sense problem um it knows the current gets up to about 125 instantaneous but it could be higher well there's a couple of ways we can approach this we can go through measure all the rails or we can bring out the infrared camera and cheat and try and see if we can swap the flicker yeah and i think the more popular item to do around here is to plug the infrared camera and spot the flicker because people don't like to actually have to use their brains so much it's much easier to just look for a flicker another jim hook contribution see jim facilitates please bros so i'm just lining things up first all righty let's see infrared okay so obviously we've got what is fairly normal reflective stuff yeah now we're going to see if the crosshairs jump anywhere i don't see anything on that side all right don't let the bright spots here fool you nothing flip it over you gotta appreciate how sensitive this thing is that's only it's half of what distributed across the board and it picks things up okay i can see that we had a bit of a glow around here and i'm trying to think that's the bios i think bars or clock but still that's not a flicker that one we're looking for something that jumps because it may not actually be all right it might be that spot where it's holding you may if you look at the screen um where it goes with that crosshair even though the crosshair stays there for a moment all the other noise on the board vanishes and that means that that spot became very hot and it subsequently uh everything else fell out of the display range let's try it again on and there see it see how it sort of just disappeared momentarily okay so what is that that's just by the bias chip so yeah all right let's have a look at that bass area let's look through our cable back there's a beeping uh the beeping is me turning the power supply on and off it's not speaker's peeping it can't be speakers beating because there's no speakers attached all right that there will likely be our culprit so now let's test for a proper beep continuity mode no well i'm replacing it anyway because that's pretty damn suspicious looking to me so maybe it's not an outright short but it's certainly not healthy that much is for sure this is going to need some assistive heat 460 at 110 should about do it probably could have also sorted that with two seconds of jessa flick method all right that may boot for us now we'll have to put that cap back but it may at this point be um i repair it all i've seen those lugs and i've kind of my personal opinion is that they probably will end up taking just as much time they look prettier but i have a suspicion that given how delicate they are and thin that nine times out of ten you'll probably still end up botching up everything and just end up going back to wire but that's my cynical opinion and oh yeah kind of helps if you turn the power supply on that was a bit of an energy climax you flashed but that wasn't it okay the game's still a foot all right i guess it's time now then to start measuring oh man yes the soldering iron also does beat when it gets to temperature what's that um all right i'll be back in about five minutes sorry i just gotta go deal with this it won't be long anyone heads up here too so i don't chat that was a pain admittingly i also stopped at the kitchen and got some food hey under my welcome nice to see what's this someone complaining about pineapple and pizza hell no pineapple on pizza is perfect uh ice cream i'm not allowed to have ice cream i don't have ice cream anymore okay it's not strictly true i had after about two months i had an ice cream like an actual magnum or chocolate around ice vanilla ice cream on a stick type thing about uh i think yeah i have to give that up i have to give that up but hopefully not board repair hey uh let's see all right so we've got to do voltage reading test since i love pineapple on pizza i also like bacon and banana pizza i also like chicken um yeah avocado and chicken pizza lots of nice pizza combinations that people don't normally have all right we're going to actually cheat here a little bit i don't have the rail set up for the 3437 but i do have it for um what do you call it the 165 so can i get my knife blade well it's a brand new blade from like a couple of days ago and it's already dirty so you just have to live with it yes bacon and banana it's a very nice combination excellent for hangovers i will say it's a great it's a great morning after pizza sort of thing [Music] the trick with bacon and banana pizza is to make sure that you don't burn the banana yeah if you bake it so that it's like some stupid little banana crisp from a health health food store then it's going to be disgusting but if the banana is just hot and soft then it's very nice you get believe me you should try it's um the fattiness of the bacon mixes very well with the banana and have you ever had banana fritters yeah where you dip bananas into uh what do you call it yeah into batter and then you know deep fry them things like that yeah that's just a test pad so it's not really a concern oh right yeah i know what you mean i was wondering where that little piece of wire went as well i have a feeling i might have gone under the smc to be honest i should have a look thanks for reminding me that yeah i was wondering myself where it went i just sort of went well that disappeared it doesn't look like it's under there [Music] but yeah i was wondering myself where that damn thing went as i said it really depends on the person doing it right because if they crisp the banana it's just going to be disgusting it will completely miss the cohesion between the softness the soft hot slightly tangy banana it has to be tangy sort of banana it can't be overripe banana that's just disgusting [Music] and then yeah the subduing effect of the pork fat bacon or whatever definitely something that you want to get someone who knows what they're doing to do otherwise it will most certainly be an unpleasant experience like so many things in life no the bananas don't need to be caramelized they just need to go hot and soft oh wow i did not see that corrosion there um if you look up some south african south african pizza places memos or something like that i think it is and have a look at their bacon and banana pizzas they do a very nice one especially considering that they're a bit of a chain restaurant but they do an excellent job they certainly earn many thousands of rains out of my pocket that's for sure every time i'd go out i'll have a pizza please and i'll have a pizza please i do miss south africa for the quality of its food the diversity the flavor south africa really kicked up when it came to when it comes to food offerings uh that looks like it's a defect but it's not i think that's just a bit of junk got on to the cap when they were doing the screen printing there as you can tell i'm very reluctant to start probing around [Music] on these things it's just like ah do i have to but i've got to stop doing that because even though i do like to make sure i tend to attack only jobs that i can fix in a couple of hours or less there is a growing percentage that need a little bit more work than that and in all honesty i do usually end up tackling them but in the silent privacy of my own time all right let's bring up the rails i broke and you want to see if it's got a pch crack haven't don't you let's uh see if i've broken we'll honor ibrogan's request to see if there's a cracked pch it's not quite behaving like a crack pch to me but hey i could be wrong it wouldn't be the first time remember what i was saying earlier i should uh you should have said that with more assertion that it's not a crack pch ah shame it's not a crack pch but there's actually a bit of a hint here maybe let's see what we're looking at there's a bit of a hint there's a bit of a mark here on the you can see that almost like a vent mark but that cap looks entirely intact that pch chip looks just dandy fine i'm sorry to say no chicken dinner on that one a bit of corrosion down there so we'll test the diode mode on that zero effect i can't actually tell you where i got them from i don't want to cause trouble for the people where i do get them from yeah that that's a lie that beeping that negative continuity that just means there's charge in those capacitors anyway they're not shorted let's try a different dcm board just in case we do have a bad dc board because this is not one of my verified ones um rubbish rubbish what kind of infrared was that that was the flyer one pro it's the high resolution one um jim sent it to me jim hook he was very exceedingly generous of him momentary flash and that's it a little bit warm here all right time to chase some rails this is a 165 and this is a 3437 but they should be close enough in most cases might as well just get a maximum view [Music] here no i don't imagine banana plugs are much good on pizzas either right five seconds into it and i think i'm already in trouble no okay we're good [Music] now this is where i'll use the new convenient facility i've got i'm gonna plug my except it's gonna be the other way around because we're doing diet mode aren't we yes okay this way i've only got to do one probe bad mood 0.13 for pb bus g3 hot that's probably okay hs computing okay that's that cap there i think 0.13 again that's sort of expected because it is hs computing and pv bus not too dissimilar in terms of their current requirements because they are almost the same scratchy nose scratchy nose all right again 342 we already know we got we already know that's working 44 thank god on the rtc it's bad news if you get a low value on that rtc point four three it's good so i'm just trying to find a short here 1v2 s3 0.15 it's a little on the lower than what i would anticipate so but i could well be wrong on that case and that's when you bring out a known good board and do the same test it all right and this pretty much proves it oh whoops right the reason why that's not working is because i have the ground attached to the other board my bad okay 0.16 so it's in the realm so it's okay and the internet um not overly successful right now okay so i suppose i should have really started an so because we do momentarily get so and then it shuts down i suppose you sort of get a little bit pedantic and decide to check it all out two six suspect foreign three pretty much anything over 0.2 and you're usually okay yeah miles i sort of am procrastinating i i won't deny that at least not too much but at the same time i don't exactly have a lot of thoughts on what i'm going to be doing about it wait you don't make any sense to me this might be an area where i know 0.47 0.1 [Music] so 0.1 it kind of seems right but we'll double check okay this seems like it's ridiculously low but you gotta remember that's the cpu line hmm ah well that's interesting we've basically done all the ones i know of what is this g3 state hey pc vitamins could be the charging port area yeah i might flip it over and see if i can find that infrared flash again see if it's shifted away from the bias area maybe the bass itself is faulty you know that's entirely possible pionov would be very pleased if it was that this time i'm going to spare bars there yeah i don't really go along with the idea of bioswaps but i'm willing to give it a shot anyway it could be something else it could be a dud trace rather than the chip itself now we have to put this somewhere safe that we don't lose it otherwise we have to completely redo it and that's a bit of a pain i haven't seen any imac board views or schematics i'm sorry but i have seen some daughter boards but none of the main boards yeah flex build view like open board view is a they're readers a bit like you have microsoft word or adobe pdf reader you know they're readers they don't come with actual content they're designed for you to get your own content the upside is of course you're not locked into whatever content is supplied you can you know it's up to you if there's new content created you can go get it you don't depend on myself or someone else to constantly keep the database updated no same fault [Music] that's fine we kind of expected it but i did that to eliminate the teeth gnashing and whaling of people down the line who will say you should try the bios so now the bios has been well rodrigo i agree you know zxw does produce a nice package everything's there together for you along with all the values and there's a lot of community data in there now i mean of course it is a subscription base too and once i finally get myself set up again which shouldn't be too long i hope i'll be able to sort out open board data and open board data will tend to allow the greater community to contribute their metadata on boards and that will at least even up the things between zxw and openboardview and flexboardview the upside of course is that openboard data being open well nothing to stop zxw using it too oh shoot there goes my chip not that i imagine they would they've got their own internal system seems to work for them so yeah so be it for goodness sake a lot of the problem with getting open board data sorted out is that when it comes to these large database systems you really want to try and get things right in terms of formats and methods and all that you want to try and get it right the first time or at least the second time particularly if you're doing a bit of a launch because if you muck it up too many times people just sort of it's going to leave a legacy of people not really bothering with it anymore hmm that awesome power good line looks a bit shonky it's probably okay hey dennis adams i'm rodrigo that'll be good yeah be nice to have that data now that's all good that wasn't broken through can't blame that well um let's see well we'll fire it up and we'll start checking voltages now so before we're doing diet mode now we're going to do voltages which i'll put my meter into voltage [Music] mode i'm thinking i'm from australia oh i am in australia r7324 prod them all six ah 7324 but you're talking the ones on the u7200 these oh yeah thanks for pointing that out forgot they were dodgy yeah no they're they're that's a good point certainly one of them is i don't know why i didn't look back down there i was scratching around there and i didn't even look to the left to look at that i mean look at it it's a nightmare yeah i think we'll just do a clean wipe on that funny how you can sort of just get blind and overlook those things i mean that's that's quite a big area to overlook yeah our current sense would makes would fit the pattern that we're seeing i'm just going to take all six uh certainly all three up here initially [Music] yeah we'll take these three initially hey party moddy welcome not sure i've seen you here before if you're new thanks for dropping in hopefully we can partially entertain you okay i'll grab three replacement resistors see how they fare but i think that might actually you know i'll give um a pretty good percentage for that being the fault it sort of matches the behavior we were seeing we'll blink up for a second and then shut right now [Music] so [Music] there's the year that decided to do two or three at once yeah it's worse than my casanova days oh no damn you yeah that one's that one's escaped alrighty i'll just have to get another one all right for having escuelian donor boards oh well sometimes you gotta be bold to do something interesting and it just didn't pay off that time it's kind of like when you're playing billiards pool snook or whatever and you take some gutsy shots nine times out of ten it doesn't pay off but then the one time it does pay off it makes you a bit of a legend what is it uh fortune favors the bold or something like that [Music] oh yeah you're right yeah put them all right we've got to shuffle them all up one now that's the other mistake you make when doing a cluster there we go all fixed and someone better call we've got aneurysms in the channel that's that's the daring part of being a participating in the chat is that you have to deal with my time lag clearly it's not as severe as trying to fly a helicopter on mars but um still still gives some people some good anxiety okay the board's a bit hot still here we go there's a redemption that was not redemption i'm afraid shame yeah that was a perfectly good fit to the fault so you know that was a worth chasing maybe we should consider is that a was that just a piece of there was a little tiny hair on there and it looked like it was wait a second no that resistor is a bit funky i'll check the continuity on some of these pads continuity mode okay that's good i don't think there's anything under there famous last week therefore was that a let's do diode mode see if that actually goes anywhere whether it's zero oh that goes somewhere but that's really low it's almost a ground all right oh no wonder it's so low because it's current sense okay yeah that makes sense actually we'll clean that up yeah because if that is and it does look like it's an active test pad which in other words it has a veer in it and i'm just making up the word active test pad so as you can see there's no connection that i can tell between there and there but we are definitely getting a reading there and it's a very low one and you can't see that stupid microscope no it's not stupid it's a wonderful microscope just the operators the problem and yeah so we're getting this very low reading there so we need to actually connect the top of that via stalk to this resistor here so what is the latency at the moment 20 seconds or so oh man that one just vanished too okay we'll fix that up too yeah okay you can definitely tell this one is a view you can see there's rings of darkness in there a bit like my eyes first thing in the morning we'll connect the wire up i'll use a high gauge wire okay take care say there john actually you know nine seconds is actually pretty good i'm more used to the order of 20 seconds crap it was okay and then i messed with it and messed with it again made it worse again welcome to things that paul doesn't ever learn and that is even if it's not perfect if it's doing the job leave it alone there we go [Music] i would definitely say this here is the real fault so certainly those resistors were probably in on the act but the fact that that the fact that we had no continuity between the current sense resistor and the actual chip doing the sensing that pretty much would have killed it but we also have to do this trace here yeah nitpicking since hey death thumb by the way when did you get here i mean you just been sort of like lurking have you for this one we can just simply do a straight across there it may not have any real functionality but damn it man my wire's gone off on its own little trip oh you just stumbled in okay welcome all right time to test fingers crossed ah that was it ah okay so now we've got something else happening oh wait it's 3437 of course it's going to do that i think it was a 165. so do it one more time there we go come back up and then we should get green blinks yep there we go it's working yeah for a moment then i thought it was a 165 which of course you expect to just come on and keep going on 34 3437's have that on off on off then run constantly situation so that seems to be working i should plug it into a chassis and have a look maybe yeah just a broken chase on the current sense so yummy steak was close you know he did remember there was all that we saw that there was all that damaged area which i had forgotten to go back to and then that led us to finding that that test pad was reveal or hiding the veer which went off to the current sense resistor or amplifier or whatever i'm not sure what they use on this one whether it's an amplifier after the resistor or whether it's just resistor straight in anyway so um that got us into the ballpark and from there we solved it and now i'll stick it into [Music] a chassis and see if it actually does work as opposed to it just turns on yeah it's very common for you to get boards that seem to work but they're not really they're just sucking power blinking the lights but the brain is dead no i've already done the bass chip it's one of the things i do with bias chips if i do take it off and it doesn't solve anything then i'll put it straight back on so that you don't um so that you don't have that particular problem where you've got the wrong bar strip on there i am just going to go into the other room and get my one of my chassis for testing okay i may connect the fan i may thank you liz and you put a fan in i mean you got to secure it somehow just flaps around wildly i guess i'll just go grab my box of screws for the 1466 and just put one in oh we need a battery as well if we don't put a battery in are notorious for running somewhat reduced in terms of performance let's see 1466 tray thank you the joys of organized organized parts i was about to say the joys of organized crime but well that wasn't very fitting i'll suffice hopefully that won't go could blame look at our test disk so we've done the option key okay we've got a fan spin stop fan spin stop and now we should get a bong coming up there's our bomb there's our boot options okay why are my boards doing this lately yeah the ultrasonic probably will kill it again happens enough yeah for some reason lately i've been getting a few machines where they will you'll select the boot device and then instantly it'll go bong and reset itself again i'm not sure what's causing it i don't know whether maybe it's my usb tester uh jose fixing things produces there's a link on my tools page to his page otherwise you can just simply use a genuine apple magsafe cable and just plug it straight into your power supply at 18 volts or whatever you like okay sensors must be okay because we're the rpm is only like 1200 so that's good wi-fi is detected sounds detected trackpad works okay enough yeah good to know because it's it's only really been happening the last couple of weeks or so it just sort of unnerves me because i kind of wonder is it a fault that i'm missing okay facetime works well i'd be surprised if this one had big serve being an old teddy who knows lars i think the bigger problem with um trying to do 4k on a microscope is that the optics don't really support it so well you'll probably get around about you'll probably get up to about 1440p before you find that you can't really push it much further the actual aperture involved with the microscope and all that just simply won't let you get that resolution resolving capability to get all the way up to 4k you can try but i have a feeling it may run out of resolving capability all right so this seems to run like no point testing the keyboard because it's not the keyboard of interest let's see is it charging it's charging three amps you can see that on the screen so yeah this is fixed at least until it goes through the ultrasonic and when it goes through the ultrasonic it'll probably fail all right so we at this point have made parity with my expense like the 90 plus petrol money to go pick these up so if i get anything out of the others it'll be a bonus let's see it's only 11 pm so maybe i'll try one of the 49 24s now barry no don't play it's just going to be a case of it's another spare board on hand at least this one's nice and that it's eight gigs and it's a 1.7 gig cpu on it so it's a pretty decent replacement i could probably replace some of the 165s with this and the people would still be happy let's put the screws back where they belong hey my wife's here lulu is preening loki oh my goodness where is your phone woman where is your phone why is that thing not attached to your hip how many times do you miss out on truly awesome situations because you don't have your phone with you whatever you think you're supposed to be controlling your pretty light with the phone and you haven't got it with you i am disappointed in your leader i will have to come up and deliver some street justice later unbelievable suppose the question is will loki ever let it happen again yeah she's not going to be able to get any footage out of the laptop camera and there's no point me running up there with my camera to try and see if we can capture it because as soon as i walk in the door one of them will take the opportunity to ruin everything she's doing the oh god why does she do the back foot thing honestly unbelievable she just creates her own disaster i won't be doing the ultrasonic now no this is um i just realized it's actually may 1st but oh well that will still be okay settling now infriction it's like she she knows that they hate her and she knows that they she is hated by them that she goes just for the leg preen in order to prove what she believes ah that's just stupid she's really really stupid unbelievable totally believable uh wma asks it's um it's a silicon cooking mat but yeah just over time they'd go that color sometimes because stuff aside from being burnt but also sometimes flux gets in there and it just sort of like carbonizes or whatever i don't know i'll replace them periodically thanks sweetie i'm kind of traumatized and intrigued at the same time yeah it's pretty much the story of my life anyway okay which one of these was i going to work on okay come on man i've got the mag save cable for that sucker around here somewhere yeah michael i pile them up together on the ultrasonic cleaner and then i do them all in a batch i've just got to get my connector for the mag safe for this particular model where did i put the them why i don't have them freely at hand at this point is because typically you end up using the one that comes with the device being serviced but when it's just a donor board on its own well you don't usually have the mag safe with it oh is that a 1722 come on come out here 1722 don't be shy don't be shy all right finding those finally what i need right now but i'll need it later oh come on where are you guys typical last box what did i steal i don't know i reckon someone's just winding you up i can't think of anything that i've stolen lately i could say something really corny but it that would be just too corny are you kidding me not in here kind of sad joke is this you call this a workshop what is that noise now leave a few uh watching those strange noises out the front might be just bats fighting but i can't be sure oh there it is i knew it was around here somewhere just didn't believe myself no definitely not the silicone cooking mat the leader actually stole one of mine i bought them she stole them all right here we go so this is one of the 4924s and all right i guess the question is do we get a green blink chances are we do not chances are it's a dead cpu oh we've got a green blink okay everything's perfect on this they've pulled this board out for no good reason at all it's okay the leader was just checking random noises i heard and she was just let me know that all was good it was just the aliens abducting me all right so the board apparently works but it's not to say we don't have a fault like maybe wi-fi doesn't work maybe serial uh maybe the disk drive doesn't work maybe the backlight doesn't work there's a few other possible reasons why this would be removed even though it seems to be functional ah that's right now i think i know what's going on that's right now it's all coming back to me smc junk so what's probably happened is by me just meddling around it's fixed up that fault causing a bit of cracking in the corrosion such yes checking random noises is indeed how all bad horror movies start and sending out my wife is certainly the most appropriate move i mean think about it if i went out there i'd have to stop the stream well we'll just get rid of that cap replace it [Music] lewis would not be able to continue on from my work i mean he's got erica to look after or erica would have to look after him i'm pretty sure it's more a case of erica look looks after him am i hungry yes i am what have we got for tonight we've got uh toasties or we've got yeah i don't know i think they may be our best come up and actually eat ah come on come on yeah lolita would be down with me on pineapple pizza anyway oh man let me guess you're the one that we need or not we need the third one and the third one is there to be fair this is not the same board this is the um 3476 or something like that that's okay these caps are all the same in this region and if they're not it really doesn't matter some values matter some values don't these are some of the ones that don't but on the other hand if you're meddling with the values on a voltage sense divider or something like that then those things do matter so you got to know you got to know your electronics a bit to know what you can and can't swap around milton that would be like a row though i do wish they'd not ship it to me in a plain brown paper bag i mean don't get me wrong if i was buying it from a shop locally and it's come yeah gets given to me in a brown paper bag that's great that's how i expect it but when it's been shipped to me through the post i kind of want it sealed a bit better than that the last batch i had i tossed away because they um yeah they just put it in brown paper bag shipped it and i was like no no no no because it seeped through the brown paper of course the nice fatty built-on and then it had started to interact with the box that was the postage box and i was like yeah that's a man i mean i know that's me being a little bit paranoid but i'm not gonna eat some biltong that's been exposed to goodness knows what contaminants on the cardboard box that's a shame because it really did actually look like very good built on and i know why they put it in the paper bag because you don't want it to sweat you don't want your biltong being all sealed up in a nasty plastic bag for five days shipping across the country sweating out and getting all soggy but there's got to be a better way to do it i guess for a lot of people to be saying make your own i was like yeah fair enough shame you don't get any bokkies here i do prefer bucky biltong rather than beef but yeah beef's still good but springbok is just that bit nicer yeah i'm pretty happy with this board i think we'll just ultrasonic that i think that was i'll see if i've got a chassis for this i don't know if i've got a 2015. no i was gonna say the camera should switch back yeah i'll just go see if i got a 2015. i don't know if people can hear me while i'm in this room leave a message if you can hear me talking i have my doubts um you ah all right no one could hear me talking right that's very good to know okay i i do have a miss a bit of a mishmash of bits and pieces in my collection but i haven't got a fully set up 2015 chassis fortunately i do have a 2015 screen so this is actually thanks to annel from rosman repair mucho appreciate you there's nothing else this will just at least give us an idea just gonna screw the heatsink back on but let me guess i don't have any seriously i've got the rubbers but not the screws fantastic ah what's this ken mason's having a rage somewhere what's up ken what you're raging about today you're trying to carry on about software like lewis does only lewis can get that my software is actually very user-friendly i mean sure it's picky about who the users it likes to be friends with are but you know if it picks you then it's friendly i think ken's stirring trouble with the looks of it how could you ken you gave me feelings in the heart no it's the wrong screw they're definitely long screws what the hell have i done with all my heatsink screws and you guys don't have any see if i've got me in my 1502 container that or my 1398 container all right so here we go with this i'm obviously not going to be able to hit the keyboard control or anything like that so we're just going to have to give it time for it to come through and jump off to that usb stick itself oh that just made a worse pull what's this your pc was put in the second hard drive to sleep where you kept your schematics that's really weird because they should only read it once and that's it jim let's see i'll have a look at that stuff i'll have a look at it in more detail later i should plug in a fan i'm not really a fan of that if you like this one see how badly can i mess things up so this is a 4924 these things don't spin in the van for at least three or four years nothing coming up there all right well there's a way i can test this i've got a thunderbolt two hdmi adapter cable oh come on man i had it with me like 10 seconds ago at the start of the stream i had this cable here it was a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter ah there is behind me that being surely got to fire off soon because it's getting seriously hot and let's see hdmi i can smell the person's deodorant now ah that is the nave is putting on too much deodorant either are both plausible okay nothing there try this again no i don't want the screen okay fans going so that's good i don't want the screen connected because i'm using the adapter i'm getting no signal nice signal nothing 4924 does it run off uh that's just internal intel chipset hmm weird if i take this out then it should at least give us a blinking folder if nothing else disconnect that disconnect that put this back in so we can watch the dance of the led i do have the right cable yeah there is the hdmi on the doorbell but i was sort of like it should work through the thunderbolt board as well oh is this being blinking green at all i don't think so ah you can not allowed to talk about the 165's that do this they're very depressing okay this has not been blinking green has it it's just been nothing that's why we're not getting anything all right so when we had it blinking green before that was it seems a miracle and now that miracle has left us know why i tore that out and by the way this is the new chipmunk it's got bigger brighter lights and the green stays on longer whereas before it would just flash in an instant be gone now there's a bit more of a stay-on type behavior i mean yeah that's damage there but that's not going to be causing our grief there's a little bit of corrosion there again not really thinking that's my problem i swear there was a second bunch of corrosion on here that i made note of when i first scanned over it and then i said oh look and the smc is also corroded and we all laughed by the way we don't call that jerky that's built on jackie's dryer nasty biltong's soft fresh and juicy jerky is good if you're stuck in the desert or something like that and you need it to last 50 years but uh biltong is preferable if you're just going on a nice nice joll about the town and you want to stink up the meeting room with terrible farts for the next couple of days afterwards ah seeing trouble when you eat too much biltong you become a little bit um socially unacceptable hey warren stamps i'm telling you i swear there was a second bit of corrosion it wasn't just that there was something else that i was looking at clearly i'm probably just hallucinating chances are it could be one of these ones where you just simply ultrasonic the board and it goes well damn it where is it bottom left corner you mean down near the headphone socket this is bottom left corner headphone socket area there's a bit of random trash there there's a tad bit of green to the right of the smc [Music] there's that piece of fluff that's just uh probably what do you call it loctite maybe there's some on the top side i missed funny how the top side seems extremely sparse compared to the bottom side it seems like a smaller board when looking over it on the top but you know technically it's not it just feels that way under the heatsink no i didn't see anything there's really not that much under the heatsink anyway i mean there's this smidge here that nope that was just a piece of rain fluff [Music] that's a grain of sand on the camera memory chip that's not corroded bull or anything like that i might have to just halt for the night i mean we've got the one board going and that was that was a pretty good going on that 34 37 okay we've got some corrosion there that's a possibility that's a backlight driver there's corrosion just under there not that that should stop the cpu though it'll stop the screen but not the cpu i suppose it depends on what pin it's on backlight naval backlight clock backlight well sorry data clock there might have been messing up the i2c but again it um should not be enough to stop the cpu running but we'll change it anyway since it does need to be done hey pachamba will be yeah i'm not really a big believer of the whole labor day all that sort of stuff the peop these days everybody just takes it as another holiday and no one really cares everybody's lazy about it lazy lazy lazy everywhere [Music] be cool all right you want me to actually measure that yeah i don't know i haven't measured it i haven't measured it because it was working initially hence my current sense of disappointment [Music] yeah i'm not worried about that bridge chip that you can see because that bridge chip is actually bridged on the board itself it's the pcb itself is uh joining those two pins so if it wants to hold hands like that then power to it ah microscope [Music] [Music] quit your whining you're not on a schematic anymore [Music] yeah i'll get there one day jimbo i've already done more than most when i've put the automatic switcher for the microscope itself yeah so when i swing it in and swing it out it does the change between the overhead versus the microscope i'll get around to more sensors lately i did have them planned but it i didn't get around to implementing them fully all in good time the other problem is though when you get to trying to do that level of senses you start to get the situation where you have false transitions that you didn't really want and then you try and you try to [Music] come up with a algorithm or a method to appropriately differentiate between what is and is not wanted or transitions when to do the transitions and there's always going to end up being corner cases really uses open world view because they're too cheap to buy flexboard cause a war saying things like that okay let's see if this at least blinks oh that's not good it's a current 26 okay this is restarting now on its own what the hell is going on with this machine that really is like a 165 i'll probably find out riwa has actually already purchased the license a flexible view and i didn't even know it and then i'll have to apologize you know that sort of stuff very embarrassing for me i don't know why i'm even bothering taking these shields off because quite frankly it's i can't see it being a fault under here at this point no i don't sell any of the boards that i repair i keep them as my own stock and i occasionally i trade them between fellow repair people yeah sometimes i need a board for donors or something like that and you know if they're not really interested in money then it's not uncommon to just sort of go well i've you know do you need a board of some sort and yeah it's sort of it's just sort of a bit of a trading chest i guess when i go back to looking at an angle yeah i tend to agree i don't think i've very often ever encountered a fault under a shield like that they do their job quite well i am rather tempted to throw this in the ultrasonic and see what happens but i do have a feeling that the fault is going to be persistent it could be junk under the smc for all i know there's a green tinge right there but oh no that's that's actually the circuit board itself on the chip i think i might have to call it for the night get some sleep and tackle it tomorrow if i get around to it i really should deal with the other jobs that do have legitimate paying customers who are waiting and i'm kind of avoiding simply because the fact that i can't come up i feel like i've gone over many of the boards so many times that i basically either become fault blind or it's just a fault that i can't fix oh hello there we go what's the bit that's something yeah that's cpu related that one that sucker there the sec chip oh wow that was blind well i took my eyes away oh man i'm gonna have to double blink here yeah there's corrosion there that's this chip here u8310 sus detect i'm going to replace this because i can replace it and i can replace it now before i go to sleep and at least then it'll be out of my head so i want to get upstairs i want to get some food i want to have a shower i want to play with the new light bulb that we bought today it's one of those wi-fi bluetooth programmable onesie with variable brightness and color sort of things you know you make a smart house so to speak out of [Music] well that's a little bit too much solder travis welcome back oh man you're all matched up and you're a different board we'll have to take the sus looking suss well even though the pads aren't corroded the corrosion was bridging across two of the legs there so it's enough to particularly if it's a high impedance input line it can be enough to sort of influence it and don't forget the flux itself would have worked on the corrosion a bit as well anyway i'm swapping it regardless because i don't want corrosion on those input edges it could be like the smc the other day whereas the corrosion is not on the pads but it is on the edge of the chip and subsequently the um the fine wires that protrude they're not protected against ingress are on the edge of those chips and it can be very easy for the corrosion to wick its way in internally into the chip without even going anywhere near the pads um we're using iphones for the only thing that we run into straight away is that while as an individual user you can control them with one phone just through bluetooth binding or whatever if you want multiple people to handle it it's then they want you to sign up and i'm not really keen on that so i'm going to see if there's a way to avoid having to utilize their cloud type system anyway we've only got the one light bulb and it's doing a good job now so if we've got to change brands or maybe to something that's more compatible or open or whatever we can always do that later okay hopefully we get a green blink this time damn it i was almost certain that saucer was going to be it because you know when you don't have that sus reliably on it causes that sort of drama how annoying so that's two chips now that have had edge corrosion that we've replaced and we still don't have a win and talk about lousy return on investment but you can see the fine wires that chip in the middle you can see very fine copper ends on them and there's big fat ones there but yeah if they get corrosion on it and that corrosion wicks its way inside then it will ruin the chip without having to touch the board pads at all many smc has died that way so do we say we call it tonight and we'll reconvene at another date yep yeah i think we call it reconvene later all right okay folks thank you very much for persisting with me we've got one board out of the lot so far maybe if we're lucky we might get two but yeah it's looking a bit sus but um yeah worst case scenario i still got these boards cheaper than the rate that you pay out of aliexpress for a donor board and the best thing about these if they do become donor boards is that i've got the ram chips i've got a cpu um i've got the smc you know everything's on there nothing is actually you know brutally damaged like what you get on these ones you know where they just sort of like cut the board slice everything off you always end up with damaged parts and often it's the part that you want that gets damaged so even if i don't actually manage to successfully repair anything i still have in my hands some decent donor boards so i'm happy about that okay i'm out here thank you all again i'll see you next time until then you'll take care best of luck with your own repairs if you do any and i'll catch you later
