Camping at the Hospital During Hurricane Ian | My First Hurricane Experience

it is September 26th a Monday the hurricane is supposed to hit on Wednesday James leaves is supposed to leave tomorrow out of Orlando so hopefully it comes early and you get to stay and also we did not plan on being matching tonight we just finished playing Putt-Putt at my Resort Kelly got a hole in one I did but then James beat me we're gonna go get some wings and watch Cowboys play but I made this video because the hurricane is coming we are split into teams at work I'm actually gonna go live at the hospital starting on Wednesday but uh yeah we'll see what happens this is my first hurricane I guess I didn't really like realize the severity of what the situation could be until today I volunteered because I'm living over here in a camper and I figure that's probably not the best place to be if crap hits the fan I figured I'd Vlog this and if something happens then I'll you know hopefully it doesn't does look stormy today but it always looks stormy around this time but I've been getting notifications on my phone all day about tropical storms and flooding and this that and the other so it happens yeah all right guys update it's Tuesday September 27th and I got to work this morning and my director said that we are now going to move into the hospital tonight initially we were gonna like go to bed tonight come to work like normal on Wednesday tomorrow and then stay but the storm is creeping up and it looks like it's going to hit us we are in the line of fire I'll put the little picture here we're gonna get hit probably and so I am on my way home right now to hurricane proof my house I'm gonna put my kayak inside and try to preserve all of my food in my refrigerator to get my bags packed and I'm gonna move in I'm gonna live in my office then I gotta go back to work and finish my day and I'm just seeing kind of what happened stay tuned I don't know what's gonna happen [Music] foreign I got the kayak and the camper now I'm just gonna say a prayer now the camera's still here when I get back it is about 1 30 now and I am leaving the camper and heading to the hospital for the foreseeable future we'll see this is kind of dramatic it looks like the sun's coming out all of the gas stations are super packed and some of them are already out of gas all right y'all I brought blankets I brought pillows I got snacks there I got air mattresses here they did give us some cots I'll show you guys that in a second here we go okay all right this is my home for the night show you guys how I get it set up but uh we're not working with my chair okay so we got lucky and they're giving us cots so I'll have my own cot ton sit up so I'm gonna do that right now so y'all I'm prepared for this all this time car camping and living out of the tent I'm like say less I'll camp out my Hospital office sounds good to me oh this is like a brand new stinking car we live in good out here dude I was freaking dead let's go [Music] oh I see aha this is actually kind of cool I've been thinking about buying a cot glamping purposes I get to try one out we got the cot set up and now I have shout out to this wonderful company for sending me this three inch memory foam pad I was initially going to use it for car camping and now I can choose it and then Hospital office Hurricane camping Wow Let's go this is gonna be comfy I'm excited well how about that it's actually really freaking cozy in here [Music] just uh sitting on my front porch this is so weird so I am leaving for one final time before this thing pops off and I'm gonna go get some a salad at the wall wall it's pretty crazy people are filing in here with their suitcases pretty wild and it's not doing anything right now it's hardly even raining outside and just a little bit of a breeze but I suppose this is probably the Calm before the storm we shall see what about Sebring yeah you know Sebring I have a couple good friends there I did suggest that they uh evacuate south and east good morning I am in my office slash living quarters getting ready for work the winds have already started picking up the storm has now turned into a cat four pretty sure it was like cat two and then yesterday was three and now it's four I'm not scared but the concern is starting to set in all the cars are fine all right it's 2 18. and uh not much going on the winds were blowing pretty hard earlier but now it's it's nothing it's supposed to pick up here I'll six six to eight is when it's really gonna start doing stuff so we'll see what happens [Music] [Music] Memphis Tennessee [Music] you got a piece of plywood keeping the door shut and it's starting to get really hairy out there [Music] uh I just got word from my renter that uh they lost power out by where my camper is um guys I have Goosebumps right now it's about to get back we are in the direct line of the hurricane the eye is gonna be a little bit north of us but we're gonna get that back in gust of high winds the power is starting to flicker on and off I just got word that power went out on my side of town where I'm living at my camper we are going to be probably in the worst of it in about two hours a little less than two hours but as you can hear you can see from the videos it is getting bad it's getting a little scary and the just oh we might lose power very quickly holy crap yep [Music] um yeah it's getting real real real foreign all the doors are rattling it's getting crazy come on come on let's see thank you oh oh holy moly it feels weird out there at the beginning nothing oh this is something all right oh my God that was 80. that wasn't like that was at least 80. oh look stuff's starting to fall off trees the pressure is really weird outside my ears are popping this is crazy you're doing oh generators are starting oh boy so I made friends with the security guards and they're letting me [Music] footage but yeah they just turned the generators on lights been flickering we're getting about 80 mile gusts at this point [Music] dude to a lot of people in this hospital that are from Florida and they're like oh it's not going to be nothing and now they're like oh this might be something I have a mile an hour is a cat five I think that's what they were saying oh boy talked to a gentleman and he was getting ready to leave and because he had been out here like 20 minutes earlier and then he walked out here and he looked and he was like oh this is way worse and I'm like yeah I don't think you should drive and he studied here a little bit with me and then he decided to go back I would not be driving in this this one could pick your car up and blow you in the ditch this is crazy let's see what time it is it is 6 36 so they say the worst is supposed to hit around eight so we're T-minus like an ooh you'll see that an hour and a half until the the crazy stuff gets here everyone's on edge it's crazy frog is getting really hairy out here I am very very concerned about my camper the winds have now gotten too high I got kicked out we're gonna shut those front doors unless somebody still pulls up to the ER which people have been pulling up three people have pulled up since I've been hanging out out there but last time they said hurricane Irma those doors created a suction in blue those doors out into the parking lot so you got to be careful with that I thought it sounded bad earlier I don't really see but let's see oh man the sign has officially ripped off natural overseer extreme wind warning in effect for this area and the media danger of life-threatening winds till 9 30 p.m take cover now an interior room and sturdy building away from Windows protect your head from flying debris doors are vibrating okay update we just got another weather warning this one for a flash flood and we are now out of running water in the hospital a lot of people are running around like crazy there's a lot of nurses and people walking around with a bunch of crates of water we had a ton in the back so um I've got like some stash in my office Kelly I'll come right out all right this is my office we have power in the main building because the generators are on but there's no power in here I have one power strip they just plug the computers into it good thing I have my I look so crazy yeah it's getting late I think it's like almost 10 30. at around 2 A.M that night we lost all cell phone reception I wanted to be already screening we've got running water back we do not have power yet all of our charting systems are down so we're gonna do some paper charts today just go up on the floors and go check up on all the two fed and tpn ccuic patients I think they are getting ready to call and B team so I might get to go home and see if my camper is still on the ground we got some pretty high winds there's some tree limbs down a couple signs a couple things broken here and there we got lucky and thank God but actually our other hospital that I cover in wachua there's like a building that burned down the roof flew off so they're really struggling so keep everybody in Florida in your prayers I know Fort Myers got it really bad I haven't checked the news oh we don't have cell phone service right now all the towers are down so I'm not able to contact anybody get on my phone and check the news to see what happened last night because the winds were crazy all night I heard them they woke me up a couple times survived my first hurricane we're going to finish off this work day and I'm gonna go home and go to sleep I am tired this was a long ordeal but amen they just barely hung on but that's like the Circle K got destroyed dang okay I just got back to the RV resort that I'm living at right now people got a lot of damage here there's a lot of damage and thank the Lord seriously like that's on God that nothing happened to my place yo this is the tree behind my house oh she's still standing oh wow what a blessing [Music] foreign [Music]
