He allegedly got his nickname from soldiers. He spent a lot of time in military camps and would "play" soldier, so he became Little Boots.
While its accuracy is questionable, I would 100% reading about him in Suetonius' The Lives of the Twelve Caesars. Caligula was absolutely insane. Picture Mel Gibson as he is portrayed in South Park. It's a jarring read, too, as it goes from countless paragraphs of his unimaginable crimes and then suddenly changes to describing his quirks, appearance, and phobias.
No way really? I always though Caligula was bad ass name lol
Proculus reportedly looked over his shoulder while getting fisted by Caligula and sneered, "is that all you got, Bootikins?"
Yeah, but that Gaius kind of a dick
bootikins lmao
Just like Cicero (chickpea) is a cognomen for Marcus Tullius. He was named that either because of a facial deformation that resembled one, or because his family dealt in chickpeas.
The romans had only about 30 male first names, about only 12 were in regular use. There was so much overlap in names in ancient Rome that most people had a cognomen. This used to be truely a nickname, but it became a heridatory part of the name.
Like 'scipio' (staff) used to be a cognomen from the Cornelia family, but as more and more people bore that name, they added a layer of nickname f.i. Publius Cornelius Scipio got the nickname 'Africanus' after his victory over Hannibal. His first born son then inhereted that same name with the Africanus attached (Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus), the second born only was called Lucius Cornelius Scipio (without the Africanus).
Makes sense, right?
Is someone else reading The Trials Of Apollo? Hmmm??? 😁
I can confirm this.
I think it's also a porno
