Woke up at three to my daughter screaming, looked out the window and we had fire to the west and fire to the north. Talk about another scary and challenging day of wildfires all across the state. And so we do have live team coverage for you as we speak. We do thank you for joining us. I'm Chris Thomas. I'm Laura Painter. We're coming to you early so we can bring you game five of the Stanley Cup finals. But we start with the two major fires burning in the region. The arrow fire in Calaveras County near Coop Polis is now 20% contained after burning more than 5000 acres. And in Koos County, the sites fire has burned more than 10,000 acres and is just 15% contained. We have live team coverage tonight. Meteorologist, Carly Gomez has the latest on fire. Weather conditions are Brendan Ridin is following the progress of the sites fire, but we start with ABC tens. Devin true be live in Calaveras County right now and Devin lots of progress in the firefight there. Absolutely. Laura, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a jump in those containment. Numbers that you just mentioned because everything pretty much looks like this right now. Sure. There are still a few smoky hot spots, but the majority of the hill side in the county looks like this black ash. Plus we've been seen consistent, steady water drops all afternoon across highway for really contributing to this firefight fire crews fighting the arrow fire that broke out Monday afternoon in the area that it's burning, it was really receptive to fast growth, burning in a lot of grassy area. And so it grew to a size of more than 5000 acres very quickly overnight. They have been able to slow the spread of the fire and they've had some good success bringing in crews from as far as San Diego and Sis counties to fight the aero fire near Copper poos in Calaveras county, 370 personnel, 43 engines and 49,000 gallons of fire retardant dropped so far, painting the trees along highway four pink. The fact that we have three significant fires going on, you know, within a couple of hours of here definitely does affect the ability for any single fire to get the resources. So far three structures have been destroyed and one damage flames turning the hillsides black. But for second generation Calaveras cattle farmers, the wooster brothers, all the grass that burned was feed for their cattle. People want four winners got ahead of the fire and pushed them the other way. Ahead of the fire down to what we hope was safer country turned out to be because they stopped the fire before they got to where we put the cattle. The wooster brothers had 80 cows and calves and a handful of bulls. They aren't sure how many made it out. Now. They have to try and find feed for the cattle probably until about March. Not feeling very lucky about anything except that our house is saved and the reels and everybody's safe. I'm happy about all that from there on. I go downhill real fast and I want you to take a look at this view we have right now. This is the next water drop that's going to be coming in to deal with those smoky hot spots on the hillside. This is the type of aircraft that we've been seeing. We haven't seen any of the larger 737 tankers, not at this fire yet. Just the small aircraft just moments away to drop that water on the hillside. As we take a look, this is on the opposite side of highway four as we see just a little bit of smoke left remaining in the green brush and here goes the water drop from Cal fire. You can also see just the line of pink retarded in the background as they dropped 49,000 gallons of pink retarded so far Cal fire saying they're really trying to get full containment on this fire. Before the temperatures drop to those triple digits later this week. Reporting live in Cal County, ABC 10 LA. Yeah, we just saw it live there on TV. Then attacking that fire from the air with that water from the sky. Lots of good news de in the winds of calm fire. The firefighters have made some massive progress in containment that to be live with the latest on the air of fire. Thank you. Well, now to the sites fire in Colusa County, it's already burned 10,000 acres in just 24 hours. ABC D's Brandon Vitamin is on the fire lines and spoke to people who spent the night trying to save their homes. This fire blew up huge because of the high wind we had and also the big dry grass crop we've got going on this stuff burns like tissue paper and allows the fire to run really quickly. It's why we have multiple heads burning on the site's fire right now as it's making its way up over the tops of hills, down through the valleys in Colusa County, threatening places like Leesville, woke up at three to my daughter screaming, looked out the window and we had fire to the west and fire to the north. Slim is one of a handful of people who lives in Leesville. His family has the old 18 hundreds hotel from the stage coach days built in 1874 8 kids raid in there. His family had a scary night with that 3 a.m. wake up. But fortunately, fire crews were able to light a back burn surround all of the properties here in Leesville with black and keep any of them from burning anything you want to say to the fire crews. Thanks a lot guys and God bless you all. Air tankers are working this fire, especially trying to hit some of the hottest areas and the most difficult to reach parts of the flame front. But most of the work in the hills of Colusa County is being done this way. We've seen dozens of dozers being offloaded here, cutting down to bare mineral earth, making new fire line trying to help firefighters get containment on the site's fire which is burning up fuel. Yes, but it's not just fuel for a fire, this is fuel for cows. This is ranching country, one rancher we talked to said it's been really hard out here with all of the drought and now with so much of the food burned up. He's thinking about selling his herd in Colusa County, Brandon, Ritman, ABC 10 News. Brandon. Thank you. So take a look. Cal fire tells us there will be a virtual community meeting where people can learn more and ask questions about the site's fire. That meeting is happening tonight at six pm through Cal fire, Ellen used Facebook and youtube page. Meanwhile in southern California, firefighters are making progress on the post fire in L A and Ventura County. It's burning along the grapevine near Pyramid Lake. According to CAL fire, it's burned more than 15,000 acres and is now about 24% contained.
