Well now to Marysville, look at this, a historic hotel is a total loss after that massive fire destroyed the building. It happened last Saturday. No one was hurt but the fire is having a big impact on the city. As a matter of fact, they just declared a state of emergency in Marysville. And that's because the damage is creating a public safety concern and a transportation nightmare. ABC Ten's Devin Truby joins us, live from Marysville and Devin, what exactly does this emergency declaration mean? I want you to take a look at the current situation here in downtown Marysville after the hotel caught fire and burned on Saturday. Officials say it's at risk of collapsing, which is why they installed these barricades to keep everyone out of the potential impact zone. But it's also why police fire and Cal trans said they run out of resources to handle this. The regional impact caused by this incident and the unsafe condition of the hotel has overwhelmed our resource. A state of emergency declared for the city of Marysville after a historic downtown hotel went up in flames. On Saturday, the Marysville hotel opened for business 98 years ago and hosted celebrities like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. It was closed in the 1980 s because it wasn't up to fire safety standards. Years later, it was purchased by the company Urban Smart Growth. And up until recently had plans to reopen the hotel as an apartment complex. It appears that the insurance cover on the building was minimal. I believe the owner, urban smart growth has more than adequate resources. I am not confident that at this point they will urban smart growth tells ABC 10 they would like the city to take over the property saying it would be the quickest and most efficient way to get the highway open and protect neighboring properties. That means the city would likely have to pay for the demolition. In the meantime, multiple businesses surrounding the hotel are closed because they're in the impact zone. If the building were to collapse. Chris was planning to open lighthouse barber shop across the street. I was going to open a open obviously with this, it's saddened just because with all this heavy congestion and you know, with the chaos going down there, it's really hurting. The business traffic is diverted at state highway 70 for closures from third to sixth street in town, stoplights, flash red traffic crawls, they're handling the traffic the best they can. There's not a lot of around the city says they can't even begin to quantify how much constant surveillance by police and fire is costing. On Wednesday, the police chief arrested a man with a knife who was inside the crumbling hotel. I believe you. I love this city so I will overcome the city is speaking with K yesterday hoping to learn what their next step is. In the meantime, they're waiting for the demolition crews to arrive Monday to give them an estimate on the cost and when things can return to normal reporting live in Marysville DE to be ABC 10 DE. Thank you. This is a developing story. So stay with ABC 10 for update.
