welcome to extra throttle house i'm thomas and i'm james and this is not the main channel which is just called throttle house this is the extra channel called extra throttle house obviously lower production yes but we still there's some cars we still want to get your our thoughts heard on the one take laid back is the whole idea here all right today that car is the cadillac ct4 yes v now the obvious disclaimer that comes with this car every time you see anyone review it is it's a v it the the ct4 is the uh the evolutionary successor to the ats but it's not uh isn't it the ct5 no that's the cts off right so this is the this is the cg4v yes and so it's not but it's not the successor to the ata sv no but that's this is this is the mid trim this is like an m340i there's a there's a black wing coming there's a black ring of course black so that's all you need to know yeah uh actually first no we'll get to that in a second okay the engine therefore yes is lesser like the ats v had a really aggressive six this gets a 2.7 liter four-cylinder that actually has some pretty good numbers okay so it's like 320 something i'll go ping and put them up here it's three yeah and it's 380 pound feet of torque that's actually pretty significant a lot from a four cylinder anyway i think it's a very good looking car it is so canon so i mentioned s4 and m340i cadillac want this to compete with they say they wanted to compete with the s4 oh sorry the s3 the cla 35 and the m235 they can't do that they can't do that well it's in between so this is this is like it's like sending your second grader to first grade so you can ace all the tests and feel really good about himself this is definitely more than those because this is a longitudinally mounted drivetrain yeah and it's this is rear-wheel drive this is the ones i just mentioned yes yeah so so you know and when it comes to production we usually like we don't take anything more seriously no than extra sports house videos yeah we we absolutely make sure that we have the best shooting locations possible uh zero interruptions what's up harrison uh so this is all this isn't a wonderful white uh time for a commercial break commercial break um anyway we were talking about its rivals it was a long time ago i don't remember yeah so we said this is this is a longer tuning mounted engine as opposed to the transverse mount it's very competitors and this is a rear-water rear wheel drive you can get this in all wheel drive today we have the rear wheel drive which is great because not only does it mean it's more fun yes but it gets magneride magneride 4.0 suspension that's a big deal yeah which the wheel drive cannot have yes but so but i want to say before we drive it i'm going to drive this one right yeah yeah you've been living with it so i'm going to drive it it's my first go in it it's important to know that the all-wheel drive you can get this an all-wheel drive right yes yes but that all-wheel drive is not the same as its so-called competitors it has a huge leg up for being properly rear-wheel drive based right so but this is not cheap my expectations are high this is today this is options of 59.5 grand whoa so and that includes things like these wheels these 19-inch black wheels are three grand to have the color they're really yeah to have the colored brake calipers in red it's like 680 dollars well that's worth it obviously yeah well it makes the white pop yeah um but yeah i think visually they've done a really great job with this and i would say standing next to it it's probably better looking than the cla s3 and definitely the m235i although it lacks a bit in the rear i think it falls down a bit in the rear okay grab it yeah let's drive it okay all right here we go uh four cylinders that's the sound of a full cylinder a fury um you can only make a four cylinder sound so good yeah like unless you like unless you carburate it and you know it's naturally aspirated and it's in the 60s then unfortunately that can sound good but a turbo charged for wow as powerful as this one so it is it is 325 380 pound feet of torque yeah and that's significant like it's it's it's not slow no it's great well it's they claim four and a half seconds to 60. i i believe them i mean it's also doing a really good job of putting the power down i'm finding this is got a limits of differential rear wheel drive and like whoa so i'm not even in a like a sport mode let some slip happen there it's that was fun it's an aggressive fall it is definitely that's fun and i'm gonna put it in track mode so there's that there's also there's also like other yeah so if you double tap the the traction control button there's traction settings for both sport and track right which is just it's incredibly confusing well the camaros have that button there's a v button and a v button so this this is as a rule as a rear wheel drive ct4v this has the magneride 4.0 as standard okay magnus that's a huge it makes a huge difference it's huge difference the way this rides i would say it's loud on the highway there's quite a bit of time noise yeah but but as far as like impacts and bumps it does not translate to the cabin that much it feels luxury in that sense considering it's such a small wheelbase oh it's just in immediate is this alpha chassis this is the alpha chassis from the camaro yeah it's just stiff and like responsive i i've been excited to drive this car for so long and upsettingly it's not perfect okay okay i think i agree with you but first let's say a few things i feel like for every great thing there's one really bad thing so let's get the great things out okay aggressive fun engine yeah ish turbo lag there's turbo lag so so cadillac are very proud of their volute uh turbo technology which is just another word for a spiral thing and there's the boost it's similar to the twin scroll technology that you get in like a bmw except and it exists sorry exists to try and reduce the amount of lag yeah but it doesn't it doesn't no okay so peak talk is between 1500 rpm and 4000 rpm all right so here right now we are in second gear yeah 3 000 rpm okay let's let's be nice let's give it four almost 4 000 rpm foot down now then there's the boost yeah there's a significant you can actually feel the displacement and then you feel the boost you can and and that's not great no but it's when you're going flat out okay listen to the shifts now it's seamless yeah and there's no lag because it's in boost the engine's in boost so this is the 10-speed auto yeah it gives it a gm 10-speed auto yes uh it's a great transmission i just i wish that they'd provide it in a manual the black wing is going to get a manual and that's a big deal which means this car exists with a manual and a v6 in a different trim like i wish they'd paired this with a manual because these sort of like torquey turbocharged engines get really fun with the manual transmission but as far as autos go it's great yeah it's it's okay so in this class of car which cadillac likes to argue is the apparently it's the front wheel drive based class even though the sub-compact class yeah which is not but let's just say it is well it's halfway this is like 108-inch wheelbase the 3-series 111 what are you remembering these numbers and then the m23 the m235i grand coupe is is like 105 inches so it's exactly halfway sometimes your memory astonishes me yeah okay anyway so this car is absolutely superior dynamically absolutely superior dynamically to the icl845 yeah i mean like well that's the thing everything is screwed up as far as as far as power numbers go and north of 60s go it is similar to those cars and we did a video with all three cars um it's actually one of our first videos coming out the first lock down so if we look a bit crazy we are we were yeah um but but when you jump to the black wing we we figured out that this the black wing version of this has one horsepower less than the new m3 the manual m3 right so then it becomes an m3 fighter and we want to make the best track videos we can with these cars so we don't know who to put up here if we put up against an m3 everyone's gonna be like uh guys that is an m two three four no i don't think anyone's gonna say you get out of the m235i no no they might say it's a cla 35 or yeah yeah either way they've intentionally placed it in a strange spot but the same is true for the ct5 actually well an interesting point speaking of it being better dynamically than the cards they say that it goes up against this also goes up against in price and size to the g23 series the 330. yes which and this is way more engaging in the car to drive yes the steering is better if uh the chassis is tighter it also has some korean competitors this is priced today at the same as this fully specced out 3.3 turbo g70 oh yeah and it's 10 grand more than a stinger 3.3 liter stinger so it's it's in some some troubled waters here it certainly is i think though uh in okay if you care about driving yeah just driving and going around corners specifically out of all the cars this is i think one of the best it's honestly one of the best kind of sports sedans on sale right now and they've there is a v nature to it you know from the from the floor mounted acceleration pedal to the way that the brake feel is yeah the brake is very stiff there's the rear gun the weight to the steering is perfect yeah it is all right here we got some we got some back roads now i like the driving position driving position is good this is this is a driver's car it's just not quite in the engine and the transmission this it's an engaging chassis it really is it's good okay so here's a question yes this is extra throttle house we don't want to go on and on yeah well we should should we do the thing the way this like where it falls down first yeah the interior is terrible yeah it's awful it looks great though just don't touch anything it feels so cheap it's cheap the sound system which is the upgraded bose is mediocre at best yes this is uh this is a thousand dollar extra and it's bad yeah and the the the gauge cluster is unacceptable for this price point based on what's available the 2021 is going to have a digital gauge cluster 12 inch as an option right and they're apparently going to upgrade the leather in the steering wheel which is because it is a bit crap it is yeah and the stitching on it looks really enough yeah so i'm not a big fan of that but and these seats are not that comfortable they're fine the rear seats are actually okay yeah they're like no they're not that comfortable but there's plenty of room yeah infotainment is completely usable but it's nothing special it's also very small right and again we wouldn't complain about that if it wasn't for the fact that it cost 60 grand 60 000. i said to thomas earlier i think someone pulling away from a dealership in a cla 35 from the driver's seat is going to feel until they put their foot on the bed or turn the corner it's going to feel like they bought got more for their money yes okay so here's what i'm wondering because i personally wouldn't buy this for 59 grand it starts at 45-ish and all-wheel drive's like 48 okay maybe um and i i i think that if i wanted to make the i wouldn't buy it but if i wanted to make the ultimate sub-compact sedan a lot of this would feature as part of that more than any other car i would take more elements from this interesting any other single car to make the perfect sub-compacts that's curious okay so i would take the suspension i would take the size i love the size of this car yeah the s3 is a bit small three series is a bit big this is perfect yep so i take suspension the size uh the steering the brake pedal and even if i have to go automatic i take this transmission as well really interesting okay i just would want i wanted six and uh i think i think i think i would do well i mean if we're in the purported class of this car as they as cadillac says i would do this entire chassis suspension as you said and and the steering rack as well but i would think i would take the engine from the cla um yeah that was a good thing yeah it was a good it was a really really fun exhaust note yeah yeah it was really scary i take this for looks though as well i take the exterior of this i think this looks really sharp interesting i i think this is okay i think the cd5 looks superior but yeah i think obviously the m235i grand coupe is perfect in every way and that would if you know i'd pay hundreds of thousands for that yeah yeah is there anything you take from that car oh oh dear um there's so many jokes running through my head right now i can't even try not to i'm trying to play atlanta no i literally wouldn't take a single thing from that car oh my god i would take the badge off of it and put it on a better car i didn't i didn't want to get in this car and just say oh this isn't perfect but wow is that black wing going to be fun it's so cliche to say that i know i'm not going to say that what i'm going to say is that i'm really excited for the black wing and i think this provides a really good platform for it transmission sometimes doesn't do you want anyway yeah sorry what you were saying i i am saying i would this makes me excited for the black wing and yes i agree but it's missing the things that black queen would have i think if you put a great engine in this in a manual transmission this is a textbook perfect sport sedan because it's sporty above all other things i think that is a suitable ending i think it's a good spot yeah that's a great place for this video too
