we always say rome wasn't built in a day and i do think that the best interiors the ones that have a soul are the ones that are built and decorated over time my name is martina mondadori and i'm the founder and editor-in-chief of cabana magazine and this is my childhood home in milan which is now casa cabana i'm very happy and honored to be working with sotheby's on the launch of their classic design week i'll be curating pieces from the sale at sotheby's which is very exciting for me it's like bringing a little girl in a candy store i couldn't think of a more perfect collaboration than sardis and cabana havana magazine it started in 2014 we come out twice a year they have become a bit of a collectible object also thanks to its covers some people like to describe it more as a travel magazine than as an interiors magazine i think it's a bit of both vince mondalino has been one of the most important italian decorators of the 20th century his interiors were rich of classic architecture the heart of this apartment that prince modino decorated for my parents in 1978 is the sitting room or living room it was all built around the concept of symmetry which was very important for him and the way that all the different patterns have been layered in the room have always been a crucial element in the founding of the magazine and the brand growing up in this house was obviously different to a lot of the other houses i would see and i was very much of a rebel as a little girl i was challenged prince monradina and my mother saying but why can't i live in a white cube i want a minimal house years later when i started my journey at cabana i obviously had changed my mind in the meantime my mother i remember she said to me ah so now you understand and you appreciate this no matter what growing up in an interior like this would have informed and influenced my life and it did and i'm very happy it did when people ask me how do you create the cabana mood i always say it's about the soul of a place and the soul of a person living in that place and the layering the layering doesn't happen in a day it takes time it takes years and it takes your personal take on the objects you want to surround yourself with i think classic design should be part of anyone's life simply because old objects and every object has a story and brings that story and a new life into a new home [Music]
