we all have that one dependable tool that we can count on no matter what the task is it's always ready to handle whatever you throw at it for the past two years mine's been the mavic 2 pro [Music] [Music] what's good everybody ken here you're watching original dobo in today's video i want to talk about the mavic 2 pro in 2021 this is a question i often get asked is should i buy the mavic 2 pro today is it worth it or should i wait for the mavic 3 well we don't have any indication on when a mavic 3 is going to launch and if anybody is making videos saying that mavic 3 is coming at any point soon they're absolutely full of so just buy the mavic 2 pro that's it end of the video [Music] all right i'm kidding i have to explain why i would say you still should buy the mavic 2 pro so let's get into the build quality alright so the mavic 2 pro build quality is exceptional it's probably one of the best built portable drones that i have ever owned and i have owned almost every single drone that has been produced today the mavic 2 pro that i have here has been flown for about a year i have damaged i have crashed these it's no surprise that i crashed drones i crash them all but even when i have crashed this it was able to survive at spin up 2019. spin up 2019 i crashed this into a chain-link fence and basically the only thing that i needed to do was change out the props which i got really lucky because that was the only drone i brought with me that year so change out the props and it's been great but you know when you look over the overall build there is no stress cracks there's no fraying i mean a lot of times you look at plastics and they'll start to crack at the joints or where there's screws and this thing has been absolutely rock solid i've had zero issues with this when these first came out i thought we were gonna have a problem with these gimbals but i was wrong there is no problem with the gimbals i remember seeing somebody have a gimbal where it broke right here it came actually disenlarged from the actual unit itself but since you know its introduction i haven't heard any stories of anybody breaking a mavic 2 pro gimbal yes it's big yes it's heavy as far as the gimbal goes but it works absolutely perfect and there's honestly no issues with that whatsoever so as far as build quality goes i'm going to give this i'll say a 9 out of 10 as far as build quality all right let's talk about battery life because battery life is important you want to know about how many batteries you should buy for the mavic 2 pro if you considered buying this in 2021 well i'm getting about 26 to 25 minutes of real world flight that's real world flight from takeoff to land 26 to 25 minutes out of this battery now these batteries do an exceptional job however there is a few drawbacks to these batteries and the first drawback is the fact that they are prone to swelling and when they swell the easiest way to figure out if you have a battery that is swelling is to just simply set it on a flat surface and just see if it teeters if it's not teetering you're perfectly fine now it's not abnormal for batteries to swell as they get heated again there's a lot of components going on in here and there's a lot of things that get really hot directly beneath the battery is the esc and flight controller and those things get hot especially if you're down here in florida it doesn't take very much to get this unit really really warm to the touch so just be mindful of your batteries i keep my batteries set at about 3.5 volts it's important that you start understanding voltage forget about percentages percentages don't mean anything for batteries percentages is sort of the layman's way of presenting whether or not a battery is full you need to start understanding voltages and voltage per cell this is a three cell battery 3.5 volts for this is an acceptable way to store this battery so if you can get around that you should be okay i've gone through maybe about five or six batteries and now i keep an arsenal of batteries now keep in mind that's extreme because i fly this every single day this is what i take on almost every single professional shoot i do and per week i do about six to seven shoots per week so that's me taking batteries in and out charging them putting them in the drone and using it every single day so that ratio is accelerated so if you're just a hobbyist it's something i wouldn't even worry about all right let's talk about the controllers that you can use with the mavic 2 pro so you have the standard controller that the mavic 2 pro comes with and of course you also have the smart controller that is an additional add-on you can also buy this uh mavic 2 pro with the smart controller it comes as a bundle which is a good recommendation but which should you really use with this drone well i think in 2021 it's probably just a safer bet to purchase this with the standard controller you're going to have the least amount of investment into this unit given its age but most importantly there's nothing wrong with the standard controller it works perfectly it's super simple to charge it's fast to charge and you're going to get the maximum amount of range out of that rc now the smart controller i'm not saying it's bad by any means but there are some things that make me worry about the smart controller for starters it does run android and the fact that google can basically yoke its code from dji and say hey you can't sell it with our code ingested on your smart controller because you're not on a trusted list of partners we're allowed to work with and the fact that the processor and the overall hardware is becoming a little bit more dated those are some reasons for concern to me however if you do decide to get it it is absolutely game-changing and i know people will say well why can't i just use my phone why would it matter it's just nice to be able to pull a controller out start flying know that you're not going to have any issues with brightness you don't need a sun shade it just works i don't have to worry about people calling me so the smart controller does work it is a little bit more ergonomically sound in my eyes but there are some drawbacks to that controller versus the main rc the first main drawback is it is a bit more of a pain in the ass to do lank approvals so basically if you're flying in an area that you know is going to require any sort of unlock make sure you're connected to the internet before you even attempt to do that because otherwise it will fail and it's just it's just super cumbersome super cumbersome i don't want to go too far into it but it's just really annoying more often than not i bring two controllers with me i bring my standard rc and i bring the smart controller so if i'm in an area that i know i'm going to need to do an unlock i'm just going to boot up my standard rc and do it for my phone because i've never had one fail me yet so something to think about the drawback with the standard rc is that charging port is really easy to break if you're not careful and you turn your usb upside down and try to force it into the controller you will break your port so be mindful of that it's not usbc even though it sort of looks like one i've seen a lot of people break that port over the years all right let's talk about the biggest thing why you would choose the mavic 2 pro in 2021 and it's the image quality there are so many drones on the market today but there are none that come so close to the image quality the evo 2 pro comes really really close with image quality and a lot of people are going to argue with me about this but i feel like the mavic 2 pro still punches way above its weight class as far as the image quality goes it's the drone that most professionals are going to turn to as far as professional travel drones go there isn't a better drone with better dynamic range and an easier to grade log profile than the mavic 2 pro d log m offers you 10 bit 420 internal and then you also have hybrid law gamma if you don't want to totally jump right into color grading you can use hybrid log gamma hybrid log yama can also be used for those true hdr exports so if you really want to maximize your hdr content hybrid log yama is definitely the way to go but i just find that the images look amazing and i have to do very little work to them another thing i love is the photos the photos have wonderful color reproduction amazing sharpness and i just can't really find anything to complain about with the photos i always get the shot that i'm looking for with the mavic 2 pro that 21 megapixel sensor is amazing yes there's no global shutter but honestly that doesn't bother me at all it does have a variable aperture which is useful in a lot of circumstances and for me it works in low light this thing's an absolute monster producing super super clean images you can bump your iso up to 6400 if you're really in a pinch and you still have very very minimal noise there's been several times i've flown this at night and it's just done absolutely wonderfully so i have zero complaints when it comes to images the fact that i can get this drone up in the air so fast and get my shot when i need to is something that is invaluable for a travel and filmmaker or the budding professional all right so it's not all sunshine and rainbows obviously there are going to be some drawbacks if you purchase this in 2021 first things first remote id it's on the horizon we don't know what it's going to actually look like when it's finally implemented and finalized now the good news is we still have about two years before we're actually going to see that fully take effect and i'm sure if i'm wrong about that date vic moss will will be in the comments no doubt and he'll correct me on that but i'd say two years you'd have to use this which is about how long i've had it now so by the time remote id is around this will now be four years of me using this and talking about it the other thing is we don't know when dji is going to produce the mavic 3. honestly this thing does so well i don't know how much better they could make a mavic 3 and we don't know what that's going to look like i mean that's the thing we don't have any way to predict any of this and if anybody is telling you one is available or one is coming anytime soon they're click bait pricks that shouldn't be making drone related content that's that's just my two cents and these guys they all know who they are clickbait bastards so this to me is still plenty enough for the average hobbyist but those two things are something i would consider and then the last thing is obviously the battery you have to know how to maintain these batteries in order to keep this going for a long period of time if you can find this used i would say buy one use because it'd be a great deal if you want to buy one try to buy one maybe renewed amazon renewed would be a good way to go but if you absolutely have to have the best and you want the newest product i'll leave a link for drone works down below where you can pick one up for yourself we keep these in stock we also keep a lot of batteries in stock because like i said i go through a lot of batteries i also keep props and we keep the gimbals in stock as well because again i'm accident prone and i want to be able to just grab something off the shelf and be able to repair my unit when i need to so we keep everything in stock for these to keep them well maintained a couple of suggestions i would say is make sure you stay away from any of those master airscrew props just use the stock everything and you're going to have a great experience for the mavic 2 pro so i guess in conclusion this is still worth it in 2021 dji made a very future-proof product back in august of 2000 was it 19 2018 when it came available 2018 i think is when this was launched august 2018 they made a product that i bet you they had no idea was going to be this popular and have this much longevity now some would argue that you shouldn't be buying a chinese product to those people i would say who gives a everything that is around is made in china so honestly who gives a flying the chinese don't give a about you they don't give a about you and i don't give a about where this is produced all's i care about is what is going to produce an amazing image and at the end of the day there isn't a drone that does what this does for the price point and overall usability that's it so yeah if you were considering buying this hopefully this helps you with your decision if you have any questions leave them down below and as always stay original [Music] you
