Buying New Clubs?... See the importance of knowing shaft weight!

[Applause] so today you join us for a little bit of an experimental video where we're going to be using the same head but we're going to be using a sha that stiff flaks one that's high launching and one that's low launching yeah we've actually got some data from in the studio which we'll talk about but to see how much difference it actually makes on a golf course and to tell whether we can notice so we have a bit a free old Vlog yeah we're going to have a 70 challenge where we play the entire hole with seven irons even if it's bunkers or greens yeah ready to go a little bit of fun but we're going to see if really you know cuz what what shaft is that one yes we got nipon Z 7 stiff so we're going to start the whole with that that's very obviously about mid 70s weight High launch High spin obviously over shaft project XLS 120 g low launch low spin yeah so very different weights very different ball flights but again obviously if people don't know what to look for just look for say stiff Flex yeah we could be buying something completely different well I thought this would be a great video cuz a lot of you sort of eBay Warriors that shop online for golf club and you know probably what to get but you probably don't think too much about like you know obviously kick point and spin a shaft and weight a shaft so we're going to see if we were to just go buy these clubs off the internet CU they hour Flex what we normally use how they' actually play and whether we could play golf with the wrong you know weight and and spin profile sh cuz again this is stiff FX we can see it's soft you wouldn't think it was stiff no it kind of plays like IR regular really but you know as it says on the shaft it's deflect so yeah a lot of people just wouldn't know what to look for we'll play this hole with the high launching shaft we'll play the second o with the low launching shaft and then we'll play the last o with our sh of choice yeah all right perfect we going make a bit easy we're going to go off ladies yeah on the far open it you've tried to keep that down aren't you I try and that's gone up like a rocket oh nearly in the bun that's interesting would you have expected to see that come out lower I well yeah I tried to get it lower but yeah it's still gone straight up in the air you can real I've SW up quicker than normal but you can really feel it kick just get so soft you won't be able to do that way normal stiff would you want noral that's the p770 when she drive yeah oh that i' never 7 you that reminds me of my first set of golf was when I were a junior obviously I didn't know anything about shafts and I used to lose distance going into a window I used to struggle with ball fly but I bet it was just a light shaft I didn't know anything about you know so interesting when we go to the new shaft if is completely different I got the who's got the club I think Blended in with your own set oh yeah that's it yeah I've got cuz I've got these irons oh that were nice you've done well to keep that controlled just really feel with shaft kick yeah it's just so soft even like it impact it's like wobbling yeah uh yeah was good yeah strike I think probably play with him yeah me op numers I'd rather have a shaft that's too soft and too firm I think for an iron you just lose feel yeah well after two shots son there's not anything splitting us no it's uh the same distance each time this is where it's going to come uh into its own though 100 yard is it 100 yeah who's got the the best hands I'd rather have a 79 than a gat wedge from here I think you would mini FL got that were a brave shot really I got the distance it just didn't turn on me what's going to be interesed is going straight from this into the heavy shaft and now how cuz we'll notice what we have play full feel yeah it would just feel more harsh basically yeah um yeah be [Music] interested go oh could be good that could be really good oh my God great hold it Wes she seven you fine I need some ey I launching s very cheers sir oh that's a good tactic get in wow I W expected that you fin that didn't you on purpose I got fin it slightly equain what's that six not bad to be fair I mean to be fair it never looked being worse than a six did it no not really needed a six to win a tournament just pull out seven ey I mean do what you just done yeah I mean bird it be uh pretty special oh no no left it you can have yeah good P one up I'll take it right so we're going to switch up into this lower launching shaft yeah and you know obviously in Jud I think at about half a dozen balls we each Club into yeah towards the par three green and we got some numbers and I'll overlay these numbers now but it did definitely show a difference in launch and spin didn't it yeah spin one much was only a couple reps but launch was up two or 3° quite quite significant so OB an angle of descent goes up I think ball speed was actually quicker because the shaft's light I think Club speed went up yeah got more clubs through the lighter shot which makes sense and that would make sense if you're a lady or a senior and you know you don't it quite as quick yeah that's why you use a lighter shaft it's maintain that club speed yeah exactly it's just easier to use I mean straight away now that will feel just very different what I would say you know obviously you said like the spin numbers weren't there weren't a lot of difference but we were just saying off camera as we're walking down first off them t- shots is we I wrting like a smooth s iron swing when you try to manipulate the ball and hit it like purpose like lean on it and hit it lower that's when the shot's probably going to be there's going to be them bigger mark in I mean the first t-shot you we're trying it hard to you get it down the Fairway the both did really pop up in the air you just give it a bit more shaft kicks more um so yeah I mean fair this all you know 11 you probably normally only want like a six anyway so like a hard seven it's not going to be too bad so yeah we'll see what the flight's like I'm going to play my t-shot like I played the first one try and lean on it get it out there much unless I look at the ball flly yeah yeah definitely yeah I think for Reds on this one you're a bit too close to water yeah yeah so yellow is fine I'd say on as just that PO uh left of that I'd say in between the Hedge and the pole um is ideal if you cut in a bit of corner that definitely a stronger flly yeah a little bit flatter uh might just be left rough yeah just turned a bit I definitely felt like the shaft more I felt like I was swinging the shaft more than the heading if you know what I mean yeah yeah way pick it up it just feels so much more heavier obviously you know the mass is heavy but it feels hard at work yeah shot yeah it's definely a little bit flatter similar finishing point to mine is it yeah Bit Stronger fly I mean fair I just well you're using really heavy shafts aren't you Sam uh mine one 10 pretty middle of a road really that's same as me then is it yeah we both got 110 I've never I've never been a fan for playing anything probably heavy about 110 Max 115 he just feels hard of work well I've got to admit even just after one shot I'd say feel wise I'd prefer the lighter one yeah and me I know it I normally probably five or six office te normally but saying it's got a seven I did strike a well I expected it to be a little bit further yeah where I've just just swung it a bit slower even trying to give it more we've got 187 so we got really step on a seven you got to bust it oh it's solid just front left you put in just on the green there one thing about this challenge S Club selection is pretty easy yeah fact I think is probably about right all you got to decide is it hard or not I'll think about 175 177 probably a big seven yeah I just committed s get up oh nearly just caught the te should be I think I think using a seven yeah don't think green CU are very happy with a bump and run no you might have to go B no it won't be there a bit of a back stop which you could try and use come back down slow Robinson would oh no oh no oh it's sted I'll give you that I'll be generous I think what I've noticed so far Sam is more in feel of the golf club yeah definitely you know I think I could play with both shafts don't get me wrong um but I can certainly say that it changes the way the club head feels yeah um and it changes my like confidence in being able to control my shots yeah I'd say for me it makes the head feel softer when it's lighter yeah cuz the shaft kicks more I like to I mean obviously with the lighter sha I feel I can feel the head more yeah I think that's a feeling that I like more than feeling like a border shaft yeah yeah so getting the right shaft weight is just nice for pleasure of playing really well you raced it oh just see that I'm afraid oh yeah that's fine it's a one up we one to play yeah what shaft are we going to go for I think the lighter one I'm saying ligh yeah I I prefer the lighter one just feels better definitely so he playing about 130 into it s yeah when we're on the te and we're just saying obviously there no wind today so we feel like with a lighter shaft we can like manufactur shots can't we yeah we can feel shots we can you know control ball a little bit better but I think into a wind the dangers are having a shaft to light yeah just cuz it's obviously going to spin more so yeah you just got some people it's fine but I'd say for us we'll be over spinning this so yeah we can get away with it it's really calm today but yeah if it was windy um yeah you just get a lot of shots stalling I think we just be pulling his air out cuz I've had it before with clubs where you know hting into a wind and just stalling in then you try and trap it but then you hit down more and you like add more spin it's like you can't win with it when it's windy and I think another thing we've got to consider is where we playing golf have you ever played golf in Ireland no I played on like Scotland and I mean imagine playing with them light shars somewhere like that yeah it's too hard to you maneuver and and get it just flighted down I mean again this definitely got to maneuver this one going really like high FL fade it's interesting cuz we're both like low handicap golfers obviously but we see things differently what are you thinking oh I'm not telling you yet give it over the water that's a cin swing that a it a little cing Montgomery swing o lovely shot yeah what I wanted to do I just hit it five yards too far just the side of that here I'm put in yeah likeing I don't if I could control it oh I've been qued that before been quot aan Darcy I think I was offended like grip lower and shorter back swing and follow through yeah you can get it kind of like running little slow really py swing yeah I try and land it over at D in between green and D somewhere short front and just use that back stop if I talk in a good game long yeah a bit long similar to mine good shot though oh we got over to Green that was straight of it to it just a bit too hard good shot though tell you what they some for easing off it though they were nice shots on weren't they yeah just open yeah I mean with a hard for like a lob wedge but uh 7 ir's interesting what you thinking I'm have to go over this cor I think you need to just get it trickling over that Fringe really just want to be too greedy though cuz there's a chance you can free for yeah I mean I wouldn't take a bogey uh out the equation oh no come on get down at least to be fair nearly had a good chance then just need a little bit more oh no it's jacked I missing it it's checked on me oh come St again that was aady have done enough oh yeah I'll give you that it's a Min for a match oh it had a look good effort bre well play mate so I'll let you start somehow would you conclude with that yeah definitely prefer the lighter one I think yeah just feels better that's the main thing um a lot of times you perceive weight as like Flex so you know if someone kind of did a blind test and did you know bow shaft options I definitely feel that sa seven like a regular flex and stiff so yeah it's just a that's that's the main thing you can kind of appreciate when you get to the course I think for me what I would conclude by saying is is what's happened out on the course has pretty much been backed up by the numbers in the studio you know we have felt hard to the lighter you to keep the ball FL down what I would say I've appreci more out on the is actually the the feel that a lighter shaft can give you over a heavier shaft yeah definitely um I felt like a lot more feel like a good manufacture more we light sha yeah which without doing that test I probably might not have picked up on yeah definitely um yeah like the head feels softer as well yeah I think just cuz the Shop's kicking more but yeah I think we've got a away with it today it's quite a calm day but I think it been a different story if it was a bit windy I think to conclude some some I've got wrong in past is that sometimes I've tried to self it myself I've looked at shot specifications you know online I've tried to like get a calculated guess that this blows out the window yeah because my calculator guess would have been an extra sft shaft maybe a 120 130 gram and doing a testing with your advice you know it completely blows that guess out of the window so yeah definitely I think getting some advice from a a specialist fit like yourself yeah is going to be
