their sales went up seven hundred percent and I got a call from the president of GM and he said I want you to have Pontiac every year Trans Am every year for life bus well that's amazing I said I really appreciate it so the first one I gave to my sisters like when I gave my step-brother and third one I gave to somebody else and and then I got one and then about six years later they get the one didn't come so I didn't want to be this ungrateful jerk you know called up but I mean it has been a mistake in the shipping and getting it so I called up General Motors and might ask for the president lady came Hans and I knew a new guy was there and Gandhi said what's the problem I said well I didn't know whether it was mistaken the car didn't go to Jacksonville or somewhere else because I usually get a car about this time I really appreciate it but in having a lot of fun one the man I just wonder what happened to my card he said oh yeah that's right there you didn't get a car for life I said yeah and he said we see that was the president's life and he's dead now and he said you won't get one anymore as long as I'm president I went oh nope thanks for the interesting call no I didn't do any advertising they wanted me to and I you know thinking back on now it wouldn't hurt anything if I did but you know this was another time you know in the seven the early 70s in the late 60s actors who were you know really doing well in films didn't do commercials and if you did do a commercial it was something that you were owned part of it or you know there was a real particular reason I remember the first guy kind of broke that norm for us was Jim Garner and he did a Polaroid commercial and it was and I all of us said well we can do a commercial now because Jim did one you know but I was it was like if you do that it it hurts your film career everybody thought that now it doesn't mean anything I mean if you're well I always said if you can do them and have fun with them then they're gonna work if you don't have fun
