[Music] hey friends Elizabeth here from plant-based bride back with another video today I'm actually recreating and updating a video I made almost two years ago in January of 2018 in that video I explained in depth the system that I had been using for a few months that I was calling me rolling weekly but I was absolutely loving it had completely changed the bullet journaling game for me and a lot of you had been asking me questions so I made a video explaining it and that video still gets watched to this day I still get comments on it about how it's changed how a lot of you are approaching your bullet journal and I just love that I could share this with all of you because as you've noticed if you've been around on my channel for any length of time I have literally been using this layout in every single weekly I have made for over two years I'm not exaggerating I have literally never done a different type of weekly since I started doing this one so I'm putting my money where my mouth is I think this is the best weekly layout literally ever and that is why I talk about it so much the reason I want to do an updated video is because while my layout is almost identical it still has been two years and I have some more insight I think I can explain it a little bit better I also have improved my camera quality and video making abilities so I think I'll be able to show a little bit better what I'm talking about and additionally I have included a slightly new version of this that I use from time to time which is the three-page weekly layout that I do with a faux Dutch door to give myself a little bit more space on my dailies when I need it I know some of you have found it confusing to understand how the layout works with the faux Dutch door versus the traditional two-page spread so I wanted to do an updated video where I include that layout so that everything is just as clear as humanly possible so I originally discovered the rolling weekly layout on Reddit on the boo Jo subreddit I have since learned that that was adapted from the Alastair method of future planning there's an article on this on the bullet journal website so I'll link it in the description box down below the alastair method is for future planning and is on the yearly level scheduling by month whereas the rolling weekly is on the weekly level and schedules by day you'll see what I mean when I show you the task list I want to demonstrate this method for you on the two-page spread because this is the simplest version of this layout that I use and my most used version of this layout and then at the end of the video I'm gonna quickly show you the second version of this spread that you'll sometimes see me use and explain that as well the rolling weekly combines the alastair methods task list on a weekly scale with a traditional weeklies dailies on a traditional two-page spread I like to use the left side for my dailies and the right side for my task list some of you like that flipped and that makes zero difference to the functionality of the spread so you do you the dailies part of the spread is the simplest part of the spread and probably pretty similar to what you've seen in a lot of weeklies in the bullet journaling community this is literally just a vertical layout with space for every day of the week so that you can write down tasks events notes ideas whatever comes to mind when I was using an a5 size notebook I would give each day of the week four rows and essentially the entire width of the paper now that I'm in a b5 I have a little bit more room so I've expanded that to five rows for each day you can indicate these spaces however you like of course it depends on your style for me for speed of setup I like to just write what week of the month it is along the top and the day range of that week and then I like to just indicate each day of the week with a little bracket on the left side and label it with the day of the week and the date so for example Sunday the 17th again you can do this however you like but this has just been how I've done it for years and it's the easiest way for me to quickly set up a weekly with all of the most important information that I personally need in these dailies I will write down anything that is day and specific so when I am setting up my weekly I will flip back to my monthly and I'll make sure to input any day specific events work appointments tasks that have to happen on a specific day into the corresponding day on this left side of the spread this is pretty straight forward but for a simple example I have a tap class on the 18th which is the Monday so when I flip to my monthly and I see the tap class on Monday the 18th I know that in my daily on the Monday I have to write down that tap class so I remember it's happening it's not something that happens every single day or can get done whenever same thing with date nights or work shifts or meetings anything that's happening on a specific day if you have a deadline for a school project those are the types of things that you want to make sure to write on your dailies hopefully that is really straightforward again I think the left side of this spread is how most people will use their weekly layouts it's very straightforward and simple the difference in the rolling weekly is that you're not going to add a bunch of random tasks that don't have a specific date associated with them in two days of the week you're not going to arbitrarily assign tasks to Monday or Wednesday if they don't actually have to get done on Monday or Wednesday because we have our rolling task list for that so let's talk about the setup of the task list itself I write tasks at the top of the page and then I write SMT WTFs for Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday each letter has its own column or space then I add a little dot in its own column and then I usually like to just draw a line across the rest of that row then all I need to do is add every single task that has to get done in this specific week or I would like to get done in this week that doesn't have a specific day associated with it so let me demonstrate what it actually looks like here is task number one I start by adding a bullet in the bullet row just a plain old dot bullet which is what I use for tasks personally I like to just use dot bullets on my rolling task list even though I use a bunch of different types of bullets for different things in my dailies just for the simplicity sake for the uniformity of how it looks but you can easily use the different types of bullets you normally would use if you prefer that so you add your bullet and then write in your task this is how I will write out most of my tasks in the week I'll just go down the row adding bullets and tasks until I run out of tasks in my head or tasks that I'm migrating from the week before as for indicating that a task is in progress or has been completed I add a little bullet or a little dot under the day of the week draw a line connecting that bullet to the main task bullet and then I will draw one diagonal line through that bullet to indicate that it's partially complete or in progress for some tasks they take multiple days to complete so at the end of the week I'll end up having a few dots under different days any of the days I worked on that tasks that are all connected to the main task bullet and at the end of the week either the task is still not fully complete so I'll still just have one diagonal line through that bullet and I know I have to migrate this to the next week to finish it or at some point I complete the task and I can draw another diagonal line through it to create an X through the bullet to show that that task is complete sometimes you don't get to a task in the week and in this case I use my personal key to indicate what happens with that task so a right-facing chevron to show it needs to be migrated a left facing Chevron to show that it's been delegated to someone else or aligned through the task to show that it's been cancelled now the reason why I love this Weekly is that it saved anytime because I don't have to rewrite tasks over and over and over again I always found that incredibly irritating and a waste of time so I love having all of my tasks written in such a way that when they get done they get done and I don't have to arbitrarily assign a day for it just to be able to write it into my weekly now sometimes it is nice to be able to soft schedule a task as in its not so day specific that you want to write it into your daily but you do ideally want to complete it on a specific day and you want to be able to indicate that somehow the easiest way I found to indicate this is to add a little bullet under the day of the week I'd like to get the task done the way I differentiate this from a task that's been worked on on that day is that I won't draw the line connecting that dot to the main task bullet so if I look at my weekly and I see a task that has a floating bullet under a certain day that's not connected by a line I know immediately that I've soft scheduled that task for whatever day that floating bullet is under but that I haven't actually worked on it if I do end up working on that task on the day I soft scheduled it for then I can just connect those dots together and cross it off as I normally would but say for example I soft scheduled a task on Wednesday but I don't actually get to it until Friday I'll just add a second bullet under Friday and I'll connect it to the main bullet and cross it off that way later when I'm looking at my weekly I can say oh that task was scheduled for Wednesday but I didn't get to it till Friday but I completed it on Friday I don't tend to find myself soft scheduling tasks on my rolling weekly too frequently usually if I want something to be done on a specific day I will write it on that day on the dailies side of my weekly but it can be a useful tool so I wanted to include it in this video hopefully this video was really clear please let me know if you have any questions at all about how to use the rolling weekly in your bullet journal and I will do my best to answer every single one now that I've thoroughly explained how the rolling weekly works in the traditional two-page spread let me quickly show you the three-page fouette store version I'm going to go back in time to the weekly I set up in my October plan with me video to demonstrate this so as you can see in this version of the rolling weekly it doesn't fit on a single two-page spread it actually requires two two-page spreads right after each other the reason that I like to use this method from time to time is that each daily gets more room so if I'm in a time in my life where I really want more space on my dailies I want more room to write out notes or I want to be able to write out full hourly time lines to keep myself on track on my dailies I will choose to use this faux door version rather than the two-page spread that has much less space per day choose whichever method works best for you or like me flip flop between them depending on what you need so for this one what you want to do is assign half a page for every day of the week you'll be able to fit the first four days of the week on that first two-page spread and on the second page of the spread you'll be able to fit the last three days and on the last little half piece all of your weekly tasks fold that Center page in half now no matter what day of the week you're on you can see your task list simple yet effective other than spreading out your dailies across more pages this is exactly the same as the original rolling weekly layout and that is all I have to share about the rolling weekly again if you have any questions if there's anything that was unclear please leave a comment down below and I'll do my best to help you out thank you so so so much to my patrons for your
