Building The First Floor | A-Frame Cabin Addition

previously we completed the second course of block for our safe room our floor joists arrived and we set the goal to have our home dried in by this Christmas go in the house guys yeah I got a bedroom for you got a bedroom for you got a bedroom for a little one and I got better from you girl we have our work cut out for us we're 712 inch blocks too wow it's a lot of stuff some parts of this build we are winning like learning how to lay block but other projects like installing the floor Joys and framing remind us of where we came from and exactly what it'll take to get us to the end of this home build working on building the first floor of the house we'll continue working on laying black for the safe room we picked up some metal tubing that we're going to be using as story pose to make our lives a lot easier we're gonna put them up on each corner of the safe room we're gonna get everything plumped up put kickers going off the sides of them and get everything locked into place I lock it in the point when their plume will go through and measure at the bottom and also measure up top just to make sure we are in line with each other 163 and an eight so we're dead nuts girl all right there is perfect and we're shooting elevation and Mark these story poles so once they're all marked in the same elevation we're able to pull a line across each pole and work our way up and everything's gonna be perfectly level around the entire safe room but us doing this we avoid actually going through and building up corners and shooting a laser every single time we just Mark the same take this block right here cut this portion off cut roughly right here off too so we cut this entire Corner out take this corner set in places right like this and mortar it in then we got one more course down like we're almost done we have like 13 pallets of blocks away [Music] hey hey hey there's a fresh blade blocks bro how many courses are we going to have to build up before you can no Refresh on some of the show's shugibon around the house most of it is in really really good condition but the areas that have just gotten beaten down by the sun over the past couple of years are starting to look pretty worn if you look at the wood on the A's right in the front of the house that have gotten the most sun and then compare them to the A's that are directly behind them the ones in the back are just in perfect condition they look just like they did when we first put them up but these ones right here they need some help you can rub it in with your brush you see how much that's going to improve it oh I like so good go ahead it looks so much better already oh yeah all right hey you're up dude grab the drill start drilling I'll fall behind you okay on yeah yep 18 piece of everything out and the gym area every 12 inches every 16 inches on this side of the house we nail them down we're done it's one of those projects that we can't really mess up no our lives were completely different the last thing we did floor Joys I hope you know that I do know that it's like we're living on the edge back then I know we heard that right I know right now I can go inside and have lunch and like take a nap you got work to do girl that was fried thanks for the reminder I'm Gonna Keep the floor joists an inch and eighth into account for the brim joists we also want to check elevation every time we put it down just in case the sill plate bubbled up a little bit because we don't want anything to be a half inch heavy if it is we might need to clean it down a little bit to put it in place follow my feet hello good morning [Music] we're about to have a floor girl yeah very exciting very exciting once the floor gets up we're gonna bring music on out here and we have a dance party [Music] how we looking oh we're good girl delicious we're moving we're moving girl I'm not gonna lie using these uh tjis is a lot easier than using the standard 2x12 Lumber we use on the floor on the other side because now in this portion straight down to the sill plate versus putting everything up and holding the place and kind of getting down at an angle and blowing the bottom of the two by out and then putting the rim Joy stuff so this is actually this project it's faster it's easier nothing like it a little better and we don't have to put any of the like block ing so we're not trained professionals at framing we're bringing it we bring everything we do um I looked up see if I need to put blocking in between all the tjis the manufacturer's recommendations is no because it'll cause squeaking because they're rated not to need any blocking like with the floor on the other side we put blocking it where so like I said it's easier easier to install don't you think I think we're gonna be done today yes of course now see that's what makes it look like a house is that right there dude I'm laying down right now the subfloor comes today okay I'm super excited excited you know what I mean me too we get the plumbing before we do software though can't forget to do that otherwise your background around on there but I will knock that plumbing out just to get that stuff through down good oh I get it it's happening it's going down girl we're building a house yes we are it's good girl it's the first day in the gym Josh I know right you got balance beam for now [Music] I had a boat in one spot so we went actually went 16 apart let's take the extra one we have let's fill that Gap so we have 12 in that case could be a little bit closer to all but you're gonna have the disability we want with all the weights and everything inside the gym one two three go all right yeah right there all right Bob the quarter got it this close to me all right good you gotta find the end yeah you're getting smoker smoke right here girl I could yeah it's good right in half as the day's been going on we've been seeing the mountains just disappear and the sky starts to turn just almost completely white outside it started out hazy this morning and the smoke from the wildfires in Canada has just really started rolling in our eyes are burning a little bit we've been coughing and you can start to feel it in your lungs the air quality is just really deteriorated throughout the day and it's been kind of surprising to see just how blanked out the mountains are becoming I could only imagine what it's like in New York and Canada right now if we're experiencing this here thank you [Music] foreign [Music] blocks too wow it's a lot of stuff [Music] this guy probably thinks that we're completely weird like the waist crouched down in the bushes and they have this like strange looking dog that follows over all right like what am I doing in West Virginia I'm never coming back here you're hiding in the bushes with a camera oh white lamb Falls everywhere [Laughter] oh man [Music] [Applause] are you sure you didn't overestimate the amount of block that we're gonna need I don't think so that right there is one pot of block we installed got 10 more coming I might need more block toucher you would have underestimated maybe so there are 10 pallets I ordered 700 blocks that truck's full 10 pounds 60 black per pallet so I got 600 blocks right there I'm short a hundred so it's not enough we have like a lot of work to do I was feeling really good about the progress we made with the floor though yeah you see it you said two or three full pallets of mortar we gotta mix up [Music] you sure you're gonna tackle this ourselves now let's just hire it out so you're selling all that yeah now I haven't haha that's not how we roll you're gonna build a house she's happy with everybody else in the house yeah right she's outside [Music] foreign
