good morning everybody we are starting a new project today real work project not home project this is a uh it's gonna be a pretty cool project we're doing a we demoed a very large deck right here where i am standing uh well i should say it wasn't very large it was a good size deck but we are going back with a deck that is almost twice the size of the existing deck it's 20 by 25 i think pretty good size deck gonna be covered it's gonna have a fireplace it's gonna be pretty cool so stay tuned there will be multiple uh multiple parts to this this project so it won't all be one big shot trying to trying to shorten the video link make it a little easier for people to watch um if they so choose so let me give you the quick overview i'll throw in a couple of before pictures here real quick so you can see what it looked like the existing deck what it was and show you what we got going on so last week there was this concrete slab was underneath of the existing deck so last week we brought our big concrete saw and jackhammer out here and cut holes in this concrete slab where our footings are going to go for our new posts and then yesterday we rented a big auger and dug out this most of the holes and then cleaned them up with the shovel we dug this 15 of these holes they're 18 by 18 by 24 inches deep and we dug them dug all 15 of them in about five hours yesterday i wish i could say that was the first time that we'd thought to rent an auger for digging stuff like this because this is certainly not the first time we've done a lot of holes for deck this might be the most holes we've ever had to do because of the size of this deck but yeah it was a game changer and it will be definitely getting ready to get next time we have to do something like this uh and then early this morning first thing before i actually got here we had all our materials show up and i actually just finished moving all of this concrete by each hole we've got uh my helper actually owns this big mixer so we're gonna use this to uh mix up all this concrete four 60 pound bags per hole for a total of 3 600 pounds of concrete that i just moved over the last half hour or 40 minutes or so the only ones i didn't move are the last eight bags on that pallet because they go in these two holes right here and they're close enough then i'm just gonna leave them there instead of picking them up and moving them five feet and we are waiting currently waiting on the inspector because we have to get you know he's got to see the depth of the holes and see the size of the holes before we pour concrete in to um you know sign off showing that they're they're as deep and wide as they're supposed to be so as soon as he shows up we'll be able to fire up this mixer and pour footings and then we may hopefully we can get all of them poured today if he shows up early enough in the day if he doesn't show this afternoon we're not going to be able to get them on board today but hopefully we can get him on board today so that we can actually start framing tomorrow and actually real quick here's our here's our framing package we got all our we got all our posts and we got a whole lot of lumber so the lot of the bottom the bottom of this row all these um these non-treated two by eights are going to be ceiling joists for the the roof portion of this project and then we got all this pressure treated two by eights over here for the deck joists and some two by fours and other things [Music] all right we are out here for the start of week two of this deck project here's our progress from week one week one started last week with the only thing we'd really done last week was actually our week before last was cutting the holes in the concrete and monday we dug the holes tuesday we poured the concrete and then most of the rest of the week almost with the exception of a probably a tow grain total of about four hours i was actually working inside we were also redoing the laundry room in this in this house so i was working on that most of wednesday through friday while my guys were out here doing framing so we didn't get quite as far as we'd hoped but there was a lot of detail stuff that needed to happen um as far as details around you know the house getting stuff done on that we had to get all the lumber moved back here and then just simple stuff like we used a big fancy laser to figure out where that ledger board needed to attach to the house but also to cut we assembled the the guys assembled these two girders these support beams and then custom cut each post in each hole so that the girder would sit perfectly level these are 25 foot long girders they're they're pretty long and we've got them almost perfectly level across that 25 feet so when you only have two people doing it it takes a little bit longer uh so that's why we're you know i thought we'd be farther but that's cool we're uh it's all three of us out here for the next couple days so we will be rocking and rolling uh we are basically end of the day friday ready to set joists we just didn't have time to so we're we are ready to start throwing up joyce this morning so let's get after it [Music] [Music] [Music] all right we've got all this framing completed now we got stairs up to small side of the deck [Music] and then we got the big section i think i said already it's 25 feet wide and then it's 20 feet off the house out to that far end and it is solid as a rock we got more posted and go up later because there's going to be the roof over top of it so some of the support posts for that are in a different spot than the shorter guardrail post that we've got bolted in it's framed and that is going to be the end of this video we are actually waterproofing this deck so that they have dry storage underneath so come back next time and see that part thank you guys for watching and see you guys next time
